Was it worth the half century it took to bring this movie back, or does it find new and interesting ways to fail outside of how its predecessor did?

Meeeeoooow! Welcome back to another episode of The Mystic Meals Podcast! This week we have the absolutely lovely Tonjia Atomic! Director of films such as Plain Devil, Walking to Linas, and the infamous sequel to the cult classic horror film Manos : The Hands of Fate... Manos Returns! We dig deep into what got her started on her journey into filmmaking, the shows she watched as a kid that helped inspire her love of the macabre, and you already know that we're here to talk about food! From her Korean mother's cooking, to her decision to go vegetarian, gardening, what she would be as a 3 course meal, and her aversion to kumquats ( yes... kumquats
Tonjia Atomic is the director of many cult films, not the least of which being "Manos Returns". In this episode, she and I discuss how the film came together, and how to create the perfect balance of solid filmmaking craft with a low budget and the most surreal of source materials. Obviously, the sequel to Manos could not be totally serious, but no one wanted it to be outright campy either. See Show Notes at www.AaronBossig.com
On this week’s Damn Dirty Drive-In, Greg, Ben and Robb are joined by special guest Ryan Luis Rodriguez, from the Coolness Chronicles podcast, to indict the 1989 comedy sequel “Ghostbusters II” on the Reels of Justice. Also, Jackey Neyman Jones from “Manos: The Hands of Fate” stops by to discuss the premiere of “Manos Returns” on Amazon Prime streaming. Plus, the gang debuts a brand new sketch entitled “Today is the First Day,” featuring Kevin Caliber Thomsen, Jeremiah Benjamin, Jack Bennett, and Robb Maynard. And finally, on the Damn Dirty Deli, Erik treats the entire gang to a refreshing batch of Aloe Vera Drink (yum yum)! All this and a mutant sloth who just wants some friggin’ Ecto Cooler already, on the Damn Dirty Drive-In!
One of the worst movies of all time was made in El Paso, TX in 1966 - Manos: The Hands of Fate - it is hard to watch but has become a cult classic. In this episode of THE Underground Source of El Paso, we talk with one of the last surviving cast members, Jackey Neyman Jones. She was a child when the movie was filmed and played the part of Debbie, the daughter of the doomed couple. She has since written a book about her childhood experience filming the epic flop and also produced a sequel called "Manos Returns."This episode produced by M. De Santiago and G. Armendariz. Hosted by M. De Santiago. Background music during interview by G. Armendariz. Cover art designed by G. Armendariz, photograph by Lesha Jones. Lil Betty we hear you! RATED CHLL.
This week, we go totally off our basic structure, but hey, it’s our podcast and we can break our own rules. In this case, it works. For this episode, we are all about our new film, Manos Returns. All the Producers, Tonjia Atomic, Rachel Jackson, Joe Sherlock and me head for Crypticon Seattle along with much of our cast and crew to screen the premiere of our film. Crypticon is place we all came together, so seemed the place to bring it full circle and show it to an audience for the first time. Listen, and share our experience. For this episode, we begin with our interview with Diane Mahree Rystaad, who played Maggie, the mom and one of the three hapless travelers in the original Manos: The Hands of Fate. In Manos Returns, she is still trapped at The Valley Lodge with her daughter Debbie. If you have never heard of Manos: The Hands of Fate, stop right here and check out some of these links. http://www.cracked.com/personal-experiences-2150-5-things-i-learned-as-child-star-worst-movie-ever.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnxVbGZNHSs&t=2s See you back here when you’re ready. As our movie review, we review our own film…because we can. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XR4EEN-zoUQ For our “Things We Love” segment, we discuss all we love about Crypticon Seattle. There are sooo many things we love that did not make it into this episode, and only because there was so much to love, it’s overwhelming. And of course, we have our young Miss Araydia representing the pinky finger with her 2nd grade accounting of an episode of her own life. In this case, we hear about the school play Rumble in the Rain Forest and her experience as a monkey. As always, we could not do this without our technical help from Quinn, Natalie and the rest of the crew at The Revival League Podcast
