Welcome to Spitting Nonsense—where two self-proclaimed amateurs, Jasmine and Zach, chat about all things nerdy (and plenty that's not). None of this is fact, but it's definitely our brand of nonsense! We're still recording regularly—no promises on hitting exact days anymore—but you can always count on us for plenty of off-the-wall commentary. And now, you can leave comments on Spotify! Tell us what's on your mind; we see every comment and might even respond on the show. Thanks for listening, and enjoy the nonsense!

The teen years can be some of the most tumultuous in our lives - at least internally. Subtle moments can feel glorious, or tragic, while we might not even notice the major events unfolding all around us. The magic of being a teenager, when your life can feel out of control if your crush doesn't even look your way, is captured again and again in movies, from comedies to horror and all the drama in between. And why not? What better time to go through a coming-of-age story than when a serial killer is on the loose? Hollywood has been tapping into teen angst for more than half a century, dredging up warm feelings and stirring discomfort for audiences whose teen years might be long behind them. On this week's "How We Heard It," your hosts go back to school to revisit their favorite and least favorite teen-based movies and also discuss worthy recent ones you might have missed while you were busy living your adult life. Which movies got it right? Which ones sailed off the mark? And which ones are we now embarrassed to admit we ever liked? Most importantly, did you learn anything? Or was that diploma just a waste of time?
“Uncle Joab” was the most famous preacher in the West for a reason ... and that reason was pretty much exactly why the pioneer lawmakers found him to be such a lousy fit for the job of Chaplain of the Legislature. Suddenly they were desperate to get rid of him. But, they'd hired him before his salary was in the treasury.... In this candid and thought-provoking episode of Please Me, Eve sits down with Kels and Tess—creators of the Porn Nerds podcast miniseries and founders of Squirm—for a deeply honest conversation about porn, pleasure, and the role of communication in sexual education. Together, they dismantle the myth that porn is an accurate or sufficient source for sex ed and offer practical ways adults can build sexual confidence, curiosity, and connection outside the tube sites. From navigating shame and stigma to setting boundaries in relationships (and throuples!), this episode explores how porn can be used as a tool for inspiration—but not a manual for real-life intimacy. What You'll Learn in This Episode: Why porn is not a substitute for sexual education—and what is How to communicate turn-ons and boundaries without awkwardness The role of fantasy in enhancing solo and partnered sex Why watching porn together can actually deepen connection Ways to use desire as a conversation starter, not a point of conflict How Kels & Tess built Squirm to destigmatize conversations around sex Mentioned in This Episode: Kolby's Episode Vote for Eve Hall as Best Educator and Best Educator Website at the ASN Awards: If you're enjoying the show and feel it's been helpful, I'd be honored if you could take a moment to vote for me as Best Educator and Best Educator Website in this year's ASN Awards. John welcomes The Bulwark's Tim Miller back to the pod to discuss the split in Donald Trump's base over his military gambit in Iran, the New York Democratic mayoral race, and more. Tim digs into why the stars of MAGA media are at each other's throats over Trump's Middle East moves; how the political fallout could impact the GOP nomination contest in 2028; and why all this is already proving torturous for J.D. Vance. Tim also explains why, despite the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia to the U.S., we mustn't forget the deportees still stuck in a Venezuelan gulag—and how he set in motion the events that led to NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani weeping on camera last week. Normalizing Non-Monogamy - Interviews in Polyamory and Swinging
Kels first began experimenting with non-monogamy in her mid-twenties when she and her partner agreed that they could both experiment and play with others while traveling. Since then, Kels has explored a variety of different relationship styles and dynamics as she continues to figure out what's best for her. One of the things we absolutely love about Kels' story is how she approaches life and relationships with kindness, curiosity, and a sense of adventure to what's possible when you open yourself up to the potential of connection with others. Kels is also the co-founder of Squirm! A bit more about Kels straight from Squirm's website: Kels is a producer, businesswoman, and sex and relationship enthusiast. She never underestimates the power of a good story or a good spreadsheet. In tandem with a career in project management and marketing, she has been writing, directing, producing and performing for film and theater since 2013. Kels believes the core of a good business, production, or sexual experience is the same: being attuned to other people and aware of their sweet spots. Whether you vacation or staycation, Spring Break is the perfect time for another incredible, groundbreaking mixtape from the world's most famous DJ who also happens to be a worm.
The latest installment of Sinister Six digs way too deep into the “natural horror” genre with 1976's Squirm. When a freak electrical storm strikes the town of Fly Creek, angry worms emerge from the ground and start attacking people. As the worms unleash their wrath one tree at a time, city boy Mick arrives in town to visit his long-distance girlfriend Geri. Fly Creek's very sweaty Sheriff Jim immediately suspects Mick when odd, worm-adjacent occurrences begin popping up. Mick also has to contend with Geri's mother Naomi (who's basically in a different movie) and her odd neighbor Rick. After they discover the first of the worms' many victims, Mick and Geri race to solve the mystery of whatever's nibbling away at Fly Creek. They probably only have until nightfall, when worms are at their most powerful. Probably. We're not really sure what the moral of this story is, but we promise that it involves more worms than you're expecting. Jase points out that if Missy were a gold-digger, she'd be the worst one ever since he was broke when they married. Al can't stop laughing at the odd name Jase wants his grandchildren to call him.
