Margaret Thompson’s Finding Color in the Darkness is a report from the front lines of the battle against #mentalhealth disorders. Her son, John Fish, is a bright young boy growing up in an average American town, going to school, playing with his brother and walking his dogs on the beach each day. He grows into adolescence and slowly a dark sky seems to settle over him; he is complicated, sensitive and growing more silent every day.Tune in for #MomentswithMarianne show with special guest Margaret B. Thompson as we discuss her new #book Finding Color in the Darkness: Losing My Son to Bipolar Disorder. Margaret Thompson began her career in New York City at MTV. She married and left to raise her two boys, Tim and John, ultimately finding the calling of her life, teaching. Since the loss of her son, John, to suicide, she has dedicated herself to educating others about the importance of focusing on mental health as a medical, and potentially fatal, condition. https://www.facebook.com/findingcolorinthedarkness
In this episode Colin is joined by HSHR researcher, Gemma Mills, to discuss Ancient Greek mythology and religion. To help them understand the topic better, they have employed the help of an expert in the field in the form of the Roy D. and Margaret B. Wooster Professor of the Classics from Colgate University - Professor Robert Garland. At the hand of a few examples, Prof Garland explains the difference between myth and religion, why mythology and religion was so important to the Ancient Greeks, why these myths are still around, and a few other interesting things about grieving mothers, seasons, spiders and revenge. How to overcome binge eating and/or emotional overeating and see your entire life change for the better! "I really want to thank you for all you've done for me. I absolutely feel like a different person. I would say that you gave me my life back" ~ Lauren ORDER JOY NOW!!! The paradigm shift that will take you from struggle, deprivation and punishment to becoming intuitive - knowing what your body wants and needs related to food and nourishment, exercise and other activity, rest and sleep, feeling vibrant and energetic every day and letting go of dieting and emotional eating as your body returns to its natural weight. The number one reason why dieting fails over 97% of the time. The two most important relationships that must be repaired to overcome food and body obsession and emotional overeating. Why discipline and willpower lead to frustration and weight gain and what mindsets you need instead to lose or maintain weight and overcome eating challenges. Two situations when you should NOT exercise. Four triggers that cause us to turn to overeating and/or body bashing to avoid what is really going on!! ORDER JOY NOW!!! About Gillian Hood: Wellness Coach Gillian Hood understands that simply "eating right and exercising" is not the solution for finding a peaceful relationship with food or your body, or for losing and maintaining weight. After years of failed diets, over exercising and obsession with food and her body, Gillian discovered powerful keys to break the cycle of "living to eat", and created a positive "eat to live" method, where she could still enjoy her favorite foods anytime while naturally maintaining her health and weight. Having made peace with food, Gillian transitioned from fitness coaching to focusing on women who have reached diet bottom and want to free themselves from the obsession and shame spiral that goes with the endless dieting and overeating cycle. Gillian gets life changing results with her clients and brings a unique perspective on what it's like to be trapped in "diet prison", but more importantly, what it takes to break free of the diet mentality and get off the emotional eating roller coaster. Here are some examples of the type of results people are getting with Gillian's coaching: GILLIAN GAVE ME MY LIFE BACK!!! "I really want to thank you for all you've done for me. I absolutely feel like a different person. I would say that you gave me my life back - but I don't really remember much before I was bingeing, so it would be more accurate to say that you gave me a life. I can't remember the last time I've binged - I've overeaten a couple times, but it's rare - I don't feel bad about it. My husband is on another crazy diet and I don't care, I eat what I want and don't pay any attention to him. I feel I've lost weight for sure, despite fighting the urge to get on a scale. I'm wearing clothes that I never thought I could and I feel great in them. I get excited to get dressed when I go out, as opposed to that feeling of dread - "what will fit today?" My body isn't "perfect," but I am so much more accepting and forgiving of myself. I'm happy when I see myself in the mirror about 99% of the time (the other 1% is usually after a 12 hour shift at work)." ~ Lauren S. I LOVE & CARE ABOUT MY BODY NOW! "When I started working with Gillian, I felt terrible about my body. I would beat myself up about every little slip and each time I weighed myself or looked in the mirror, I would feel awful. Gillian taught me how to love and care for my body. She taught me that I am not a bad person because I am overweight. I learned how to enjoy life now and not be a prisoner in my body. I feel much better about my weight now than I ever have, and I feel much healthier and freer now that weight is less of an issue for me. I believe Gillian is really helping women to become their best and live up to their potential. I feel sorry I didn't talk to her sooner. I feel like I am finally being my own best friend." ~ Wendy K. DOWN TWO PANT SIZES WITHOUT TRYING!!! "When I started working with Gillian I really believed that there was no way I was ever going to lose weight and be able to eat. So far I had chosen eating. Working with Gillian I learned I could eat anything and that if I did eat what I wanted when I wanted, I was more satisfied and lost weight. I am now down two pant sizes without even giving it much thought; I just noticed my pants wouldn't stay up. I was really happy to find that when I went shopping buying the same brand and style that my body had sculpted itself." ~ Margaret B. NO MORE ROLLER COASTER!!! "I'm now off the roller coaster. I take time to recognize my hunger and satisfaction levels. I eat mindfully; I enjoy my food and the entire eating experience. Our coaching was an amazing, enlightening experience for me, and I recommend it to anyone who needs to get back to eating in a healthy way." ~ Donna T.
