Welcome to the award-winning FCPA Compliance Report, the longest running podcast in compliance. In this edition of the FCPA Compliance Report, Tom welcomes back Mike Lindsey to discuss the Corporate Transparency Act. In a first for the FCPA Compliance Report, after the episode was recorded but before it was posted, the CTA was declared unconstitutional by a Trump appointed US District Judge. We recorded an addendum to consider this court decision invalidating the law.    Mike Lindsey, a distinguished corporate and transactional lawyer based at Steinbrecher & Span, has built a solid reputation as an authority on the CTA. Lindsey's insights into the CTA are influenced by his emphasis on privacy and data security, highlighting the risks correlated with a centralized database potentially accessible via the dark web. From his perspective, the CTA serves as a critical federal law designed to increase transparency around beneficial ownership of corporations to inhibit illegal activities such as money laundering, tax evasion, and fraud. However, Lindsey also questions its effectiveness in disclosing ownership by entities like the Iran Revolutionary Guard. Despite this, he sees the CTA as a ground-breaking move for privately-held companies, requiring them to report beneficial owners, something uncommon among small businesses in the United States. Ultimately, Lindsey views the CTA as an essential measure towards impeding financial crimes and enhancing accountability in corporate structures. Welcome to the first episode of our annual Summer Season specials. We've just completed Season 4 and Season 5 is currently scheduled to start on September 27. Between now and then we'll be featuring weekly interviews or presentations from other content creators. Today we have a Future-in-Space Operations presentation from April of this year. The presenter is Mike Lindsey, CTO of Astroscale who discusses the need for satellite life extension services, active debris removal, their technology and offerings. We offer this presentation now as Astroscale's ELSA-D mission successfully demonstrated repeated magnetic capture of a clients satellite last week. In his presentation Mike states Space Development Demands Sustainability. This has never been more true. Space debris is, and has been a problem since the early days of the space age. While most space actors are taking sustainability into account, the issue of legacy debris is a problem still without a cost-effective solution. Companies like Astroscale are tying to make the business case by offering innovative solutions. They aren't offering to clean up legacy debris, but what they are attempting is a good first step. As new ideas, technologies, and importantly, business solutions come into existence, we can only hope that all space debris, legacy and new, can be removed safely.

When it comes to sandwiches, bigger is often better. Now some of Richmond's biggest sandwiches are being created at Hatch Kitchen in South Richmond. Fat Kid Sandwiches launched last year during the pandemic as a to-go concept. Later this year, Fat Kid will be one of the restaurants opening in the now-under-construction Hatch Local food hall. Liz Clifford and Jon Martin, the couple behind the concept, said when it came to naming their business -- the choices came down to naming it after Jon's grandmother or Fat Kid.   "Well, we were sort of trying to explain to people what kind of business we wanted to run, what kind of sandwiches we were gonna make. The easiest way to explain it to people is we're gonna make real fat kids sandwiches," Liz Clifford said. "Our plan is to put mozzarella sticks on a chicken parm and have a club that's so tall you have a hard time eating it. These are really big, serious sandwiches. And we could never come up with a better name you know? I mean, it really got the point across this is what we're trying to do." Neither Clifford nor Martin are strangers to Richmond kitchens. They shared their story along with the birth of Fat Kid Sandwiches on the most recent episode of Eat It, Virginia! Fortunately, the same people can also experience chapters of recovery in their lives. I am blessed to be one of the survivors of addiction. I have battled addiction for decades in various forms, from alcohol to gambling to drugs and many more. Each promised me peace and relief from fear and pain. I searched to fill empty voids in my life but any relief was only temporary, at best. Being a functioning addict my entire life I was able to be a chameleon, keep up appearances and switch back and forth between multiple addictions. If one addiction brought too much heat or trouble, I would change to something else. Numbing pain, escaping reality and filling the void was my only agenda. After years and years of toeing the line with addiction related tragedy and devastation, I had finally met my match. In less than six short months, crystal meth took everything from me...family, house, job, car, all material and sentimental items...I was homeless...out on the streets with only a few items of clothing and a backpack. I was truly introduced to rock bottom. However, it still took me ten additional months of using and living (surviving) on the streets to truly realize this was going to kill me. I knew I could not survive another winter out there. I took steps to reclaim my life. March 1, 2016 marks the launch of AIR Wear Recovery Gear.
