In the past few years, the comedian Nikki Glaser has breathed new life into the well-worn comedic form of the roast. Last year, she performed a roast of the football legend Tom Brady for a Netflix special, to much acclaim—with Conan O'Brien opining that “no one is going to do a better roast set than that.” Glaser has been on a hot streak since then, hosting the Golden Globes in January and touring the country with a new show. But rising to the top of the comedy world, Glaser tells David Remnick, hasn't settled her insecurities, or her impostor syndrome. “It just never goes away— that feeling of not being worthy, or being thought of as less than,” Glaser says. It's why, as Remnick notes, she insists on leading her set with a joke right out of the gate. “Part of it is I just know that people think women aren't as funny, so I have to prove it right away . . . and then, ‘Can we all just relax and you can trust me?' ”New episodes of The New Yorker Radio Hour drop every Tuesday and Friday. Follow the show wherever you get your podcasts.
This week on That Was Wild, Adam Macias is joined by comedian Sam Harte. They dive deep into the world of crowd work and whether the viral videos we see on social media are really as spontaneous as they seem. Are these clips of comedians roasting their audiences all real, or have they been carefully crafted for maximum laughs?

In this series, we will work together to uncover what the Bible says on different topics and encourage each other in our faith as Romans 10:24 encourages: "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching." This series may be a bit unorthodox and unique, but we hope to learn from scripture and each other on how to become WISE, EXPERIENCE CHANGE, and HAVE HOPE.

In this special Chit Chat Wednesday episode of the JTrain Podcast, host Jared Freid sits down with comedian Jay Jordan for an engaging conversation about the evolving world of stand-up, navigating life on the road, and staying true to one's comedy roots. Just back from Australia, Jay shares his experience of traveling to develop new material despite no upcoming special. He reflects on the importance of cultivating authenticity in an industry driven by expectations and social media trends. The discussion delves into the rise of sanitized versions of ourselves in comedy, where both Jay and Jared express frustration with tech-driven approaches to stand-up. Jay explains the delicate balance between making a connection with an audience while not compromising one's artistic integrity. As the conversation flows, they explore how the business is shifting, particularly the role of social media management and its influence on the comedy industry. The two comedians also address the growing complexity of crowd work—where comedians once had full control over their interactions with the audience, but now find themselves navigating the delicate line between performance and real-time engagement. The episode also tackles personal and professional growth, with Jay offering candid commentary on his marriage, the challenges and joys it brings, and how it relates to his comedic journey. From the ups and downs of married life to the absurdity of fashion choices in snow-covered locations, the two dive into a playful and thoughtful "Peaks and Pits" segment.Tune in for an entertaining and thought-provoking conversation about the intersection of comedy, social media, personal relationships, and the ever-shifting expectations of both comedians and audiences in the digital age.Support the podcast by supporting our sponsors!Support the show and get free salads for 2 months & 50% off yourfirst Green Chef box. Big Jay Oakerson's new crowd work special "Them" is out now on YouTube and it's fantastic! The gang is all back in their SXM New York studios after a week of forced vacation. Mayoral candidate Corinne Fisher's campaign manager texted Bobby about what they heard on the Bonfire. Comic Krystyna Hutchinson posted a sexy video for support of Corinne. Jay requested a sex term called JOI. He then played videos of JOI so everyone could understand what he was referring to. The guys had a photo shoot earlier in the day so Jay brought phallic candy to spice up the session. *To hear the full show to go www.siriusxm.com/bonfire to learn more FOLLOW THE CREW ON SOCIAL MEDIA: @thebonfiresxm @louisjohnson @christinemevans @bigjayoakerson @robertkellylive @louwitzkee @jjbwolfSubscribe to SiriusXM Podcasts+ to listen to new episodes of The Bonfire ad-free and a whole week early. Michael Ian Black began his career performing deeply absurdist comedy with his legendary sketch group The State and the besuited comedy trio Stella. Now, among other things, he's a weekly columnist covering the 2024 election for the Daily Beast. But Black does not consider himself to be a political commentator “in any way, shape or form, even though I often comment on politics,” he says in this week's episode of The Last Laugh podcast. During our wide-ranging conversation, Black shares his thoughts on where the 2024 race stands right now, how Donald Trump became America's worst crowd work comedian, why he's cautiously optimistic about the prospect of a Kamala Harris presidency, and what viewers can expect from his new satirical CNN game show ‘Have I Got News for You' with Roy Wood Jr. and Amber Ruffin. Plus, what he remembers about filming his explicit sex scene with Bradley Cooper in ‘Wet Hot American Summer' and why, after two reboots on Netflix, the cult classic finally “feels like it's done” to him. The show opens with Adam complaining to Leah Knauer, who is sitting in to do the news, about the “Good Vibes Era”, before being joined by comedian Max Amini. They talk to Max about his stand-up career, the balance of crowd work vs. prepared material in his act, and how he likes his Tesla Cybertruck. Next, Leah Knauer reads the news including stories about Mark Zuckerberg saying he regrets bowing to pressure to censor content on Facebook during the pandemic, the Harris campaign taking suggestions on which outlet Kamala should give her first sit-down interview to, an Ohio prison hosting five-course meals open to the public, and the Gallagher brothers announcement of an upcoming Oasis reunion. Finally, Adam is joined by astrologers Ophira & Tali Edut, aka The Astro Twins, to read his birth chart. But first, the sister's two fire signs & Adam's air sign combust in an explosive start to the interview. I throw some sections of crowd work up from this past week's shows at the Improvs across Texas. I try to narrate what's happening in my head as I do. There's a lot more to talking to the crowd than just making fun of people and asking what they do for a living. The goal is always to craft a bit, and to bring the chat to some closure so I can get back to the material. My new special is out now: https://youtu.be/3y_zeO7JLD0 You can join my newsletter here: http://eepurl.com/cVECrL And as always, please consider telling a friend if you dig the show.
