With the Tokyo Olympics well underway, many cybersecurity insiders are still on high alert that the event could still face an onslaught of cyberattacks. In this podcast episode, we covered why the event is such a big target for hackers, what the threat landscape looks like, what defenses should be in place, and more together with Lisa Plaggemier, the interim executive director at the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), a nonprofit, public-private partnership promoting cybersecurity and privacy education and awareness.
Lisa Plaggemier, interim executive director of the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), has an affinity for the automotive industry since her professional career includes time at Ford and CDK Global. Plaggemier appeared on this episode of the Auto Remarketing Podcast to discuss the recent data breach sustained by Mercedes-Benz as well as other concerns about how dealerships and finance companies can remain secure.
Patch Tuesday was a big one this month. Microsoft Exchange Server remains under active attack in the wild, with new threat actors hopping on the opportunity. Russia denies it had anything to do with the SolarWinds incident and says the kinds of US response that the word on the street tells them are under consideration would be nothing more than international crime. Hacktivists strike a blow against cameras and stuff. Joe Carrigan has thoughts on Google’s plans for third party cookies. Our guest is Kelvin Coleman from the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) on how educators can better protect students’ privacy during distance learning sessions. And police in the low countries sweep up more than a hundred cybercrooks. Summer is upon us and for many of us that means travel - but before you even pack your bags, you need to listen to this podcast! In my interview with Michael Kaiser (the Executive Director of the National Cyber Security Alliance), we discuss all the cyber security and privacy issues you need to consider: before you go and while you’re traveling. Going abroad this summer? There are even more things you need to consider well before you leave! I also tell you why everyone needs to reboot their WiFi routers - by request of the FBI, no less! A Russian-made piece of malware called VPNFilter has infected half a million routers world-wise, and the remedy in most cases is simply to power-cycle or reboot your router. It’s easy to do and we should also take a few minutes to do it. Michael Kaiser joined the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) in 2008. The WannaCry virus hit over 200,000 computers in over 150 countries in a matter of days. While WannaCry spread quickly, it had some fatal flaws that prevented it from doing a lot more damage. However, these flaws will soon be fixed - Round 2 of this virus is already upon us. I speak with Michael Kaiser from the National Cyber Security Alliance to find the lessons we need to learn and what we need to do to protect ourselves from the next generations of this nasty malware. We also take a good look at who might be to blame for all of this and some thorny issues exposed by this attack. In other news, I’ll tell you how to find out if your HP laptop might be logging all of your keystrokes and how to fix it. Michael Kaiser joined the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) in 2008. Connected Futures: A Cisco podcast exploring business innovation insights
According to Cisco research, over 50% of consumers are willing to exchange certain types of data and personal information with businesses in exchange for value-added services. Most consumers have little or no reservation sharing “basic” information about themselves, their past purchasing behavior, or their interests and hobbies. However, there is a “trust cliff,” a steep drop-off in willingness to share certain types of personal information beyond this basic information. Factors such as location, purchases from other retailers, and so forth remains a point of question for many consumers. So how can organizations balance the need to secure customer data and privacy while delivering hyper-relevant experiences based on data insights? How can they avoid falling off the trust cliff, yet maximize the relationship with their customers? In this podcast episode, Michelle Dennedy, Chief Privacy Officer at Cisco and Michael Kaiser, Executive Director at the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) discuss how organizations can balance trust and need for data privacy. They will share why it’s critical for organizations to de-risk their infrastructure and deliver a personalized and secure customer experience.
Chet sits down with Michael Kaiser, Executive Director at the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) to discuss Data Privacy Day. Michael explains the origin of Data Privacy Day, some of the activities related to it and how people can participate in raising awareness about privacy and data security.
