Today Nana is joined on the podcast by Diana Mouring of DS Labs to discuss how to protect your business from Cyber crime. DS Labs sells a Cyber Security Solution called n@d@r, and it is the world's first autonomous Cyber Security hardware solution for small to mid-sized businesses with 100% endpoint security that uses machine learning to stop threats faster. KEY TAKEAWAYS The more internet devices we add to our businesses, the more vulnerabilities we add to our networks, and unfortunately for us, that means more things we have to protect. n@d@r is not software but a hardware solution that sits rightbehind your firewall. What that means is 100% of your internet traffic comes and goes through the device, so it's able to watch everything that is going on and looks for indicators of compromise and indicators of attack so that it can autonomously stop those things from happening within your business. n@d@r stands for Network Anomaly Detection and Response. Last year there was a big Las Vegas casino that was hacked through the heating system on their aquarium. They were able to get onto their wifi, and from there it was an internal attack, most devices don't look for that type of attack. BEST MOMENTS ‘The problem is that hackers get smarter by the day. This is their nine to five job' ‘The National Cyber Security Alliance says that 60% of small businesses will be out of business within six months of a data breach' ‘If you think about the fence around your backyard, it keeps what you want in, in and what you want out, out' EPISODE RESOURCES https://www.linkedin.com/in/diana-mouring-ds/ Cyber Solutions https://www.linkedin.com/company/ds-labs-nadar/ https://www.linkedin.com/showcase/n-a-d-a-r/ VALUABLE RESOURCES Subscribe to the podcast and send a screenshot to info@infhorizons.com to be in with the chance of winning some gifts and prizes Infinite Horizons Free Webinar Productize ebook Leave your comments on the show's facebook community page: https://www.facebook.com/Buildvaluebychoice Get your free valuation here: https://bit.ly/get-free-valuation Podcast website: https://infhorizons.com/podcast/ Don't forget to subscribe to the podcast and share it. As in house counsel - and leaders - it is not always our job to be right, but to influence others to want to do the right thing. Lawyers often pride ourselves on our depth of knowledge in our chosen profession - and it's important to ensure that we can advise our clients on legal requirements. Equally important to the success of an in house leader is that our clients seek our counsel.

Identity: the fact of being who or what a person or thing is — and the characteristics determining it. Pretty much, it is what defines a person, an item, or a group. Simple, no? Yes, it was — then our society walked into the online space, and things got messy. Our digital identities are now at the core of pretty much every technical element we interact with in life: at home, on the go, at work, and beyond. Do we do enough to protect and manage these critical assets? How many identities can we have, and how many times can someone's identity be stolen? In today's discussion, we get to uncover the work being done by two non-profit organizations. The National Cyber Security Alliance and the Identity Defined Security Alliance joined our conversation with the executive directors from each: Kelvin Coleman and Julie Smith, respectively. While identity is ultimately about a person (or perhaps a device on a network or connected to the Internet), it's what it represents. An identity has access to other assets, and that needs to be understood and properly managed. Here is where things start to twist and turn, and this is what we discuss:- The role of identity management in connection to the value of security for the business; why organizations need to pay attention to the value — and risk — that identity brings to the table.- How organizations can begin to operationalize identity management to help meet the business objectives while proactively managing risk. There is an opportunity to move beyond risk management to a place where the InfoSec team can provide value to the top and bottom lines in the form of revenue generation and/or protection. And we also had a good time doing this.Enjoy.About Identify Management DayThe mission of Identity Management Day is to educate business leaders and IT decision makers on the importance of identity management and key components including governance, identity-centric security best practices, processes, and technology, with a special focus on the dangers of not properly securing identities and access credentials.About IDSAThe Identity Defined Security Alliance (IDSA) provides free vendor-neutral education and resources that help organizations reduce the risk of a breach by combining identity and security strategies. To address the expanded threat environment security leaders face, we provide best practices and identity-centric security outcomes and approaches for addressing the growing need for better identity management and digital identity security.About NCSAThe National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) builds strong public/private partnerships to create and implement broad-reaching education and awareness efforts to empower users at home, work and school with the information they need to keep themselves, their organizations, their systems and their sensitive information safe and secure online and encourage a culture of cybersecurity.GuestsJulie Smith, Executive Director, Identity Defined Security Alliance (IDSA) | (@IAMStrategies on Twitter)Kelvin Coleman, Executive Director, National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) | (@KColemanNCSA on Twitter)This Episode's SponsorsHITRUST: https://itspm.ag/itsphitwebSemperis: https://itspm.ag/semperis-1rooResourcesAccess resources from Identity Management Day: https://staysafeonline.org/identity-management-day/ and http://www.identitymanagementday.org/Learn more about the Identity Defined Security Alliance: https://www.idsalliance.orgLearn more about the National Cyber Security Alliance: https://staysafeonline.org/To see and hear more Redefining Security content on ITSPmagazine, visit:https://www.itspmagazine.com/redefining-securityAre you interested in sponsoring an ITSPmagazine Channel?https://www.itspmagazine.com/podcast-series-sponsorships

Today my guest is Masha Sedova, the co-founder of Elevate Security delivering the first people-centric security platform that leverages behavioral-science to transform employees into security superhumans. Elevate's unique Security Behavior Platform uses data to score employee risks, show actionable trends and practical feedback to motivate, reward and reinforce smart security behaviors of employees. This new approach to security awareness earned Elevate Security a spot in the 10 Finalists in the Innovation Sandbox Competition at the RSA 2020 Conference. Masha is a member of the Board of Directors for the National Cyber Security Alliance and a regular presenter at conferences such as Blackhat, RSA, ISSA, Enigma, and SANS. As we begin our conversation, Masha emphasizes the importance, no the urgency, of looking for the ‘silver lining’ of our disruptive event and how we can embrace the opportunities it presents to emerge with unique outcomes for positive change. Since human error accounts for about 90% of all breaches, Masha explains how new thinking and understanding of security awareness and training can be one of your ‘crisis opportunities’ to improve. It’s all about the data. One of RedZone's big ambitions is to essentially create a biological response on the networks, creating systems that are automated at scale. So, I ask Masha why she thinks we haven’t begun using data in the workplace the way we use it in other areas of our lives – like fitness. You may have a fully integrated Fitbit, so why haven’t we considered implementing similar data integration and thinking into our organization’s security awareness platform? There are some really great concepts and tools that we discuss here. This conversation will give you a chance to understand how to get out of the tactical fear part of your brain and really look into the strategy of security. This is an episode that you do not want to miss. Here are some of things that you will learn in this podcast episode: - Human error creates 90% of threat events - Behavioral Science behind changing behaviors – You must have all three Ability Motivation Trigger or reminder - Motivating factors Gamification Social proof Celebrity social proof - Heroes, Champions and Risk Takers | Segmenting an Organization into a concept called ‘cohorts’ - Including the user as part of the ‘team’ with ongoing communication acknowledgement for A+ results encouragement for improving results motivation for adequate results solutions and coaching for failing results - The Learning Pyramid – Organizations should develop training with the best methods of retention. - Empowering people has an exponential impact within the organization How to Connect with Masha Sedova LinkedIn Twitter Website Resources + Books Mentioned The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do In Life and Business, by Charles Duhigg. Our reliance on Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) is growing. As CPS infrastructure becomes exposed to the contested world through networks, CPS security becomes much more important. In a CPS, the cyber components manage the physical components. We propose that the overall goal for CPS resiliency is to have the physical systems behave properly regardless of fault and disruption. Our approach to CPS resiliency focuses on the physical components. Specifically, the inertia of the physical components provide a natural but limited resilience, and is capable of tolerating short-term disruption without affecting the health and safety of the CPS. This and the fact CPS have a large difference between physical and cyber time scales, enables a unique approach to CPS resiliency. This talk will present our approach of engineering the cyber components to be brittle against attack, which consequently forces cyber attacks and related disruptions to be short-lived and within tolerance of the physical system's inertia. About the speaker: Mr. Mickelson is a Principal in MITRE's Naval Program Division. Matt has spent twenty years integrating emerging technologies, including cyber, AI, and autonomy, to improve some of the world's largest organizations. He has given invited talks in academia and industry. He was a keynote at last years IEEE ICTAI conference and recently an invited speaker for the National Cyber Security Alliance at the NASDAQ. As a child, he convinced his parents they needed a color TV, and ever since, he has had a passion for identifying and developing disruptive technology. Now, he actively coordinates advanced research programs in cybersecurity at the Office of Naval Research (ONR).

Personal Data Safety (0:00:00)We love sharing our photos and life updates with friends and family on social media. Butwe have to be carefulwhat we post online. Our Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook pages can be treasure troves of information for people on the internet who are actively trying to steal personal data and sell it for others to exploit. Joining us is Kelvin Coleman, the national director of the National Cyber Security Alliance in Washington, DC. We want to talk with him about how our data is threatened online and how we can protect it. The Power of Psychological Hardiness (0:16:10)In the movie “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day,” one family undergoes a series of calamities including failing a driving exam… setting shirt sleeves on fire in front of employers… and getting kicked by a Kangaroo. Does this kind of day sound familiar? Just like this movie, we all have very bad days where everything that could possibly go wrong does. And this can cause a lot of stress in our lives. Here to talk about how to turn the stress caused by our terrible days into success is Dr. Steven Stein, a psychologist and author of the book "Hardiness." Visiting Your Dermatologist (0:30:47)Did you know that approximately one in five Americans is expected to develop skin cancer during some point in their lives? With this shockingly high likelihood of us being affected, how many of us check ourselves on a regular basis? How many of us know how to perform self-evaluations? Well we've invited dermatologist Cynthia Bailey on the show to share everything we need to know about self-checks, as well as what to ask the dermatologist during our visits. Psychology of Comics (0:50:39)We're all familiar with the Marvel and DC superheroes that light up the big screen every year. But before we saw these popular characters in movies, many of us read about them in comic books. If you grew up reading comics, your parents might have begged you to read a “real book.” Pictures and text bubbles saying “Boom!” and “Pow!” just didn't seem like good enough reading material for kids. But studies show that reading graphic novels or comic books might be a better transition and introduction to reading than middle grade novels. Here to tell us all about how comics can benefit our kids is comic theorist and visual linguist Dr. Neil Cohn. Encouraging Individuality in Kids (1:05:20)In the vortex of social media, perfect images, models, airbrush and more, it's so easy to compare ourselves to others and think that we're not good enough. We all know that this isn't just a problem for adults either –our children are facing it too. With everyone trying to fit this perfect Instagram mold and look just like everyone else, how can we help our kids embrace their individuality and love who they are? Atara Twersky is the founder of the Curlee Girlee movement, which empowers young girls to embrace their unique individuality. We were intrigued by the power of this and were excited to invite Atara onto our show to discuss this important issue. Diary of a Future President (1:23:09)If you've been scrolling through Disney+ looking for your next binge-worthyfamily show, we've got just the thing for you. The newest original series called “Diary of a Future President” is sure to make you laugh and leave you feeling inspired. This family-friendly comedy tells the story of Elena, a Cuban-American 12-year-old girl,as she navigates the ups and downs of middle school and begins her journey to become the future president of the United States. Here to tell us all about what we can expect from this show is Tess Romero, who portrays young Elena, and Selenis Leyva who plays her loving mom.

What you are about to listen is the third and final conversation with Daniel Eliot, Director of Small Business Education at the National Cybersecurity Alliance. Sean and I recorded three episodes with Daniel because it is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month and you need to listen to all of them - in no particular order - to become Cyber Aware Awesome and earn a Cyber Society Pin Badge. Gosh, it seems like just yesterday when we published the first podcast, and so much has happened since then, that I am honestly struggling to find the words to introduce this final conversation. Truth is… I am so proud of you all. I am shedding a tear of joy as I am thinking about how we have all come together, educated ourselves and transformed our cyber society from a sinister landscape into a welcoming safe heaven, with a chicken in every pot and a car in every garage. At the time of the first episode nobody gave a flying unicorn ass about cybersecurity; back then we were all going around the web clicking recklessly on every link, buying unsafe IoT devices and connecting them in our homes and offices, repeating our - undeniably brilliant and unforgettable - “mY12345pW” password on every account we own, and connecting our phones, tablets and laptops to any WiFi in range, even the ones labeled “free candies”. Not now. Not anymore. That was yesterday. Today, we have listened to the first two podcasts with Daniel Eliot, Sean Martin and me, and we are all grown up, aware, mature, and ready to venture into the digital world, proud, knowledgeable, and secure. Well, this was my hope, but I realize that it is not that easy. There is still a lot more to do, starting with one more podcast, this one, and then we will go from here. ITSPmagazine is not going to give up educating everybody, and neither is the The National Cyber Security Alliance. Look, it doesn’t really matter if you listen to this podcast in October, November, March or July. National Cybersecurity Awareness Month is simply a way to get your attention so you can listen to what the experts have to say about being safe online, all year long. We spoke about the value of sharing cybersecurity responsibility — from the consumer to the large enterprise and from the boardroom to the break room. Then we spoke about what small and medium sized businesses have to do when it comes to protecting their systems, information, and even their capital from cybercrime and cyber fraud. But in the end, everything comes down to all of us, as individuals assuming the responsibility for our own cyber life, which at this point is not separate from our real life. We must educate ourselves and take that knowledge wherever we go and apply it to everything we do, for ourself, our business, our family and the future generations for which we are, believe it or not, very much responsible. In this podcast there are many actionable tips and advice for you to implement immediately and to share with all your loved ones. So listen up, be connected, and be merry. ________________ Listen to episode 1 and 2 with Daniel Eliot, plus more NCSAM stories here on ITSPmagazine: https://www.itspmagazine.com/itsp-chronicles/national-cyber-security-awareness-month-ncsam-2018
Given today’s topic is all about SMB cybersecurity awareness, we are thrilled to have Daniel Eliot on today's show. Why? Because Daniel is the director of small business education at the National Cyber Security Alliance. This episode is the second of 3 in a series. And, in today’s conversation, Daniel shares with us some of the misconceptions small and medium sized businesses might have when it comes to protecting their systems, information, and even their capital from cyber crime and cyber fraud. As Daniel emphatically points out, the most important thing for any business is to stay in business - and the need for cybersecurity becomes crystal clear and statistics show it’s harder for a small business to recover from a successful cyber attack. And, with 30 some-odd million SMBs employing upwards of 60 million people in the US, it’s clear to us (and hopefully you as well) that we need to do what we can to help each other stay safe as we stay online. Daniel has a lot to share - and given the theme of shared responsibility for the activities taking place this month and all year long - we hope that people not only listen to today’s episode but also take part and engage in helping to raise awareness with their colleagues, managers, business leaders, and even your partners.
Summer is upon us and for many of us that means travel - but before you even pack your bags, you need to listen to this podcast! In my interview with Michael Kaiser (the Executive Director of the National Cyber Security Alliance), we discuss all the cyber security and privacy issues you need to consider: before you go and while you’re traveling. Going abroad this summer? There are even more things you need to consider well before you leave! I also tell you why everyone needs to reboot their WiFi routers - by request of the FBI, no less! A Russian-made piece of malware called VPNFilter has infected half a million routers world-wise, and the remedy in most cases is simply to power-cycle or reboot your router. It’s easy to do and we should also take a few minutes to do it. Michael Kaiser joined the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) in 2008. As NCSA’s executive director, Mr. Kaiser engages diverse constituencies—business, government and other nonprofit organizations—in NCSA’s broad public education and outreach efforts to promote a safer, more secure and more trusted Internet. Mr. Kaiser leads NCSA in several major awareness initiatives, including National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) each October, Data Privacy Day (Jan. 28) and STOP. THINK. CONNECT., the global online safety awareness and education campaign. NCSA builds efforts through public-private partnerships that address cybersecurity and privacy issues for a wide array of target audiences, including individuals, families and the education and business communities. In 2009, Mr. Kaiser was named one of SC Magazine’s information security luminaries. Mr. Kaiser has served on several nonprofit boards. He is currently the chair and a founding board member of SPINUSA, a national nonprofit based in Massachusetts, and has served on the Board of Trustees of the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine, and New Destiny Housing Corporation in New York City. You are under attack. Right now, cybercrime rings in China, Russia, and the Ukraine are hacking into small businesses like yours to steal credit cards, client information, and swindle money directly out of your bank account. Some are even being funded by their own government to attack American businesses, and half of all cyberattacks are aimed at small businesses. The National Cyber Security Alliance reports that one in five small businesses have been victims of cybercrime in the last year. It’s critical that you protect yourself from the following 10 vulnerabilities.

The WannaCry virus hit over 200,000 computers in over 150 countries in a matter of days. While WannaCry spread quickly, it had some fatal flaws that prevented it from doing a lot more damage. However, these flaws will soon be fixed - Round 2 of this virus is already upon us. I speak with Michael Kaiser from the National Cyber Security Alliance to find the lessons we need to learn and what we need to do to protect ourselves from the next generations of this nasty malware. We also take a good look at who might be to blame for all of this and some thorny issues exposed by this attack. Today we're talking with Michael Kaiser from the National Cyber Security Alliance. His organization is sponsoring the Two Steps Ahead Tour, where they are traveling to cities throughout the United States to encourage people to begin using two-factor authentication for their email and social media accounts. Protecting yourself online is incredibly important, especially given just how vulnerable our passwords are. Two factor authentication is very easy to set up on most services. Here's a video I made two years ago about setting it up on Google accounts: http://lon.tv/uwyku
