This an incredibly fun episode with a twist on our normal content. Nic is the founder of Land Trust, which at its essence is AirBnB for outdoors people. If you are looking for a hunt in a place you are not familiar with, Land Trust is a must!!! They offer the background work of places, ground, and opportunity, offer you hunts on private, massive, land spaces in the areas you are looking to go. Can you imagine 5,000 private acres to go chase that bucket list bird? Often it's less than a couple hundred dollars a day, and the land owners often help and give you bird spots, so you are resigned to topographically scouting from afar!!! This might be the coolest thing since sliced bread for the uplander!!! Check em out and give the episode a listen!!!

Somewhere in Montana, I hunted with Nic De Castro (founder) and Trevor Walz (partnership manager) of LandTrust.com ... a new company with an entrepreneurial approach to accessing high quality private hunting land ... sort of an "AirBnB" for folks like us. Following a fascinating hunt, we sat down to talk about their business model, then had a wide-ranging discussion on our day afield, bird dog training and care, prairie bird tactics and strategies, how habitat "givens" are off the table this season, lessons we've learned working with dogs, and more. Sometimes I feel oversaturated with news about hunter numbers. They’re up, they’re down. And then back up again. Now Outdoor Life says we have no clue what they are. Whatever they are or aren’t, I think we need to do better. Even if hunting spiked last year, we have to realize there is some bubble happening here. Of course people hunted more last year, it was one of the only things you could do. How many times have I said that we were losing hunters to youth sports? And Netflix? Well youth sports were shut down last year, and there’s only so many rounds of your favorite show you can watch before you have to move or become part of the couch. There are some really interesting plays happening in the outdoor space. You have people like AJ De Rosa, Nic De Castro, Slade Johnston, Murielle Gaither, Adam Gifford, and my team at GoWild so many others, who are making strong tech plays to get more people outside. I hope that together, we’re building a strong enough community to avoid losing hunters when this bubble bursts. And just like the ammo and gun shortage, it will burst. We’ll either be prepared for it, and have handled it well. Or it’ll be 2016 over again, when the demand for guns slumped, a time the gun industry calls the Trump Slump due to it coming along with Trump’s win of the election, and then firearms companies started getting their butts handed to them. Today's guest is another guy who deserves to be among that list of people I mentioned. It’s Mahting Putellis, the founder of Hunt to Eat. He’s going to talk about hunter recruitment and retention today. And what he and his team are doing to help more people get outside. HunttoEat.com

On this episode we discuss how landowners can maximize profits through leasing land for recreational activities with LandTrust.com founder Nic De Castro. Nic shares how his company connects landowners with hunters, anglers, and others seeking outdoor experiences. Short-term bookings through platforms like Land Trust can generate more income than long-term leases, while still allowing landowner control. Landowners can list properties for activities like hunting, fishing, camping, birdwatching, artifact hunting, and farm tours. High-quality habitats support diverse wildlife and experiences that attract paying visitors. Land Trust prioritizes safety through verified IDs, maps, and insurance. The platform helps landowners profit from conservation by showing incentives like higher income from recreational opportunities on well-managed lands. Landowners learn about income opportunities through Land Trust's website and personalized support team.
