Today Elaine chats with Isley Lynn and Libby Rodliffe the co-writers and performer of Jobsworth. We chat the inspiration for the show, shame around debt and our lack of honestly when it comes to finical maters, the comedy of bad bosses and we have a great laugh. Jobsworth - Pleasence Courtyard - Upstairs Dates: 31st July - 26th AUGUST (not 14th) @ 1.45 pm Tickets available here: https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/jobsworth Jobsworth Bea's secretly working three full-time jobs. All at the same time. And she's still financially f*cked. Between looking after luxury flats and dogsitting the world's ugliest pooch, she's neck-deep in employers and it's only a matter of time until someone finds out she's breaking all her contracts. Armed with nothing but her smarmiest boss' dirty secret, can Bea get herself out of the red and into the black (and into the fit intern's bed)? Or will the plates she's been spinning come crashing down around her and her dysfunctional family? A riotous comedy about snakes and surviving capitalism. Libby Rodliffe Libby trained at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Theatre credits include: JOBSWORTH (Vault Festival), Skin a Cat (Assembly Rooms: Edinburgh Fringe & UK Tour), Who Are We Now? (Southwark Playhouse), Trapped (Cockpit Theatre), Mr Kolpert (Lion & Unicorn Theatre). TV credits include: Best Interests, Call the Midwife and His Dark Materials (BBC). Feature film credits include: Spencer (Komplizen) and Big Boys Don't Cry (Six from Eight). Isley Lynn Isley is an American-born, London-based playwright and poet. Their play THE GLUE opened at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and transferred to the Young Vic this year. They won the ‘Most Promising Playwright Award' at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards 2023 for their play THE SWELL, which opened to great acclaim at the Orange Tree Theatre and received a 2024 Olivier Awards nomination for Outstanding achievement in affiliate theatre, as well as being nominated for Best New Play, Best Director and Best Production at the 2023 Offies. Isley's play SKIN A CAT played at The Bunker as their premiere production in 2016. It was nominated for four Off West End Awards, including Best New Play. It was originally performed as part of the Vault Festival in London in January 2016, and was awarded ‘Pick Of The Year' by the festival. It was picked up by Playground Entertainment for TV adaptation.Isley is currently under commission to Vicky Graham Productions, Chichester Festival Theatre, Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds, and is writing a new musical with Emmy The Great and Tom Hughes. Episode 95 is the bi-annual SOS voting special. Don and Offie begin by going over the ballot in general, the candidates and motions being voted on, what they mean and how to get informed on them. Starting with the advisory votes on taxes passed through the state legislature (of which there are 4)(0:24:00), they break down how much taxes will be collected under each advisory vote and where the taxes will go. BOEING is discussed as one of the advisory votes deals almost directly with them, the troubles they are currently going through, how they got here and what responsibility we have as citizens and Washingtonians we do or don’t have to help them (0:36:00). Engrossed Senate Joint Resolution 8212, what it does and what history has shown us about similar governmental choices (0:54:00). Referendum 90 regarding Senate Bill 5395 for a revised sexual education curriculum for Washington State, what it means and says and why this makes education in GENERAL a more personal choice (1:05:00). Certain elected seats are discussed including Governor, AG, State Rep, etc... and why these positions are particularly important to SOS (1:45:00), as well as Don and Offies choices for the top of the ticket and discussion on possible futures for America’s political system (2:04:00). The recent New York Post Story regarding Hunter & Joe Biden, what it really means, what we should really care about, and why the cover up of this story was much worse than the original “crime” (2:16:00).  In SPORTS!! Surprise trades arise and horrible injuries are discussed. On Episode 93 Don and Offie are joined by the one and only John Satak. After finding the deepest roots of Johns name, they discuss the productivity and use of traditional political labels as well as the pros and cons, and whether a more parliamentary style system might be beneficial (0:10:00, 0:25:00). The difference between rights and laws, our founding documents compared to other countries as well as a compare/contrast between founding documents and social contracts (0:30:00). The razor thin margin between attack and counter attack, how simple it can be to forfeit the protections of our founding documents and how to keep them, why you can't legislate morality and how the effort to do so is crippling our society. Don draws his line in the sand with government over reach (1:00:00), the arguments for and against abortion legislation and whether or not it should be legislated at all (1:15:00). The situation (as we understand it best) that unraveled with Kyle Rittenhouse in Kenosha, some possible outcomes, the difference between "want to" and "willing to" and why it's so important as a gun owner (2:00:00). Offies expectations from a civilized society and the ways we are and are not meeting them (2:30:00), why no one should tell you how to advocate for causes you believe in and why it's okay to be confused about large societal happenings (2:45:00). Dons large scale ideas of power and control in our country and why focus on the wrong things could lead us down a path we can't turn back from (3:00:00). John learns of the dark workings of the CCP and their horrific treatment of their citizens (3:20:00). The difference between equity and equality and why the change of just a few letters can make such a difference as well as why the word "equity" always makes the SOS ears perk up (3:40:00) Here is a link to Johns YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCih5gBsFXYQSyl_4SJRBJTg Our theme song is written, produced and recorded by Upper Left. @upperleft360 Upper Left on SoundWhip: t.co/Obzf4TyW4t?amp=1 All of our podcasts and the audio versions of our pre shows all originate on SoundCloud but can immediately thereafter be found ANYWHERE you can find a podcast.
