They highlight standout performances, notably Jack Black as Bowser and Anya Taylor-Joy as a proactive Princess Peach, while critiquing Chris Pratt's portrayal of Mario as merely average. The hosts discuss the film's visual splendor and numerous Easter eggs, though they express disappointment over its reliance on pop music rather than classic Mario compositions. Despite some criticisms of the plot's formulaic nature and suggestions for improvement, the overall consensus is positive, deeming the film entertaining while respecting the franchise's legacy; potential sequels and upcoming projects are also touched upon as they conclude the episode. Riki Lindhome spent her 20s and 30s as one half of the musical comedy duo Garfunkel and Oates. Now that she is solidly in her 40s the comedian is finally going solo with a debut album ‘No Worries if Not,' which tackles the unique challenges of being a “middle aged” woman, as she put it. In this episode, Lindhome breaks down the process of turning real-life struggles into comedy songs and shares what it has been like to perform music for the first time without her longtime bandmate Kate Micucci. She also talks about the surreal experience of attending ‘SNL50' as a “plus one” with husband Fred Armisen, the moment in her career where she had to choose between pursuing ‘SNL' or sticking with Garfunkel and Oates, and how bizarre it was when the first movie she ever appeared in won the Oscar for Best Picture. Episode 12 of The Drum Panel Welcome to The Drum Panel—a show where a rotating group of professional drummers engages in roundtable discussions pertaining to all things DRUM. Today, we've got two fantastic guests joining the conversation: First up is Eric Leiderman. Eric is a producer at Late Night with Seth Meyers, where for years he oversaw the rotating drummer chair—regularly bringing in incredible drummers to fill in with the 8G Band when bandleader Fred Armisen couldn't be there. Eric's done a ton to elevate the drumming community, and we're stoked to have him on. We're also joined by Neal Daniels, an amazing drummer who's worked with artists like Liz Phair, LP, and Matchbox Twenty. Neal always brings thoughtful perspectives to the panel, and we're excited to have him back. Today we discuss: How can drummers authentically promote themselves online without feeling fake? How do we maintain our artistic voice while making a living playing pop gigs? Is recording yourself the key to growth? Should every drummer learn double pedal? How can drummers practice self-compassion? Which historic recording session would you have loved to witness? --- Get Your Copy of the Drummers on Drumming Book Today!

Let's get swept away by the Catalina Breeze! We're taking a swim in the chill waters of the Documentary Now's two-parter, "Gentle and Soft: The Story of the Blue Jean Committee," starring Fred Armisen and Bill Hader. We're venturing to Garfagnana, Italy, in the Year of Our Lord 1347, for a raunchy comedy based on The Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio. In the film, three medieval nuns lead a simple life in their convent until a virile young servant who's been forced into hiding by his angry lord appears, and the repressed nunnery erupts in a whirlwind of pansexual horniness, substance abuse, and wicked revelry. The film, written and directed by Jeff Baena, has an all-star cast, including Alison Brie, Aubrey Plaza, Kate Micucci, Dave Franco, Jemima Kirk, John C. Reilly, Molly Shannon, Fred Armisen, and Nick Offerman. Baena, who passed away earlier this year, was married to co-star Aubrey Plaza. In their review, the Catholic League called the film “pure trash.” But is the price of admission into this Garden of Earthly Delights worth the penance, or do we love the sin but hate the sinner? We started a tradition where we spoke just ahead of annual, poverty alleviation Letters to Santa live events, such as the gala they're holding on November 23, 2024, at the Brookfield Zoo Chicago: Discovery Center, featuring Jeff Tweedy, Fred Armisen, and Kim Deal among others. To maintain the tradition and spirit of the talks we had, I plan to feature archival interviews I conducted with Steve over the years, presenting them here ahead of Letters to Santa events for as long as possible. Here's the second radio interview we ever did. It took place in the early summer of 2007 and was ostensibly about the then new Shellac album, Excellent Italian Greyhound, and touched upon local radio fame, Martina Navratilova, people who film concerts instead of participating in them, Canada, SCTV, John Peel, and more.Support vish on Patreon! WE'RE BACK AT IT ONCE AGAIN, kicking off the premiere of the eighth season of the podcast with the episode that began one of SNL's more successful and celebrated transitional years. We've got some late period bangers from Bill Hader, some late period slop from Fred Armisen, attempts at capitalizing on the summertime explosions of Gangnam Style and Honey Boo Boo and, at the center of it all, the rather divisive figure that is Seth MacFarlane.

Music fans know Rhett Miller as the lead singer of Old 97's, a beloved band that has released 13 studio bang-up albums over the last 30 years, including 2024's American Primitive. Disc golf players, of which Rhett is a dedicated one, think of him as a disc golfer, which he is, as I just said. Besides, they're too busy getting annoyed at people calling it Frisbee golf. In this soothing, beddy-bye interview, Rhett walks us through the sport, and also explains why Wikipedia lists five Old 97's band members. The fifth member? Fred Armisen. Although Rhett's explanation is quite amusing, don't worry. You'll still be asleep by the final hole. Well, not a hole so much as a basket, of course.Want to see what Rhett is up to? On this “Extended Play” 45RPM episode of the show, our good friend Chris White, writer and director of the romantic comedy/road picture Electric Jesus, takes us to the set where he recently directed a short film for the song “Come And Save Me” starring actor and musician Fred Armisen (SNL, Portlandia) and our favorite outsider folk-pop band, Danielson. The song started as an unpublished lyric originally composed by the late Jesus Rock icon Larry Norman. It was then set to music, with the blessing of Larry's estate, by Daniel Smith (of Danielson.) The resulting song is a complete departure from the tongue-in-cheek hair-metal Smith composed for the fictional metal band 316 in Electric Jesus. While “Come and Save Me” was not used in the film, it did appear on the soundtrack. Now, however, White has written and directed a special short film for the song, with Fred Armisen as the starring actor. So, come with us to a film studio in Greenville, South Carolina, and hear from Chris White, Daniel Smith, Fred Armisen, and Mike Norman (Larry Norman's son) about how this fantastic project came together and how each of them approaches and interprets the meaning of “Come And Save Me.” If you missed these previous episodes, be sure to go back and find our conversation with Daniel Smith on the topic of outsider art, join us on the set of Electric Jesus (which includes our conversation with actor Brian Baumgartner of The Office), and find our conversation with Chris White and Andy Erwin about the different ways faith is approached in film. We also released a very special “From The Vault” episode that included a previously unheard conversation with Larry Norman and a then-recent conversation with Michael about their complicated relationship. And if you would like more info on the Electric Jesus story, seek out and devour BOTH seasons of their excellent podcast. (You'll find us all over them.) We could not have presented this episode to you without the help of Chris and Emily White. Electric Jesus is available to stream now. If you have not seen it – please do! MLB's All Star Game, President Biden has Covid, Dance Off: Corey Feldman v. Fred Durst, TV Emmy nominations, Rolling Stone's worst movie sequels, Katy Perry's new song, Ozzy hates Britney Spears, Jim's Pick: Assassination songs, and Drew's workout routine. Drew's trying to get buff, but he's not doing so well with the push-ups. If you care about uniforms, you probably hated the MLB All Star Game. Slash did a sweet cover of Papa Was a Rolling Stone at the (Kirk) Gibson Garage. Drew likes Split Enz. Drew likes Pearl Jam. Drew really loves Pearl Jam covering "I Got You" by Split Enz live with Neil and Tim Finn. Pepa of Salt-N-Pepa fame was kicked off of a flight for having a bum knee and buying two tickets. Then, Terrell Davis showed up on GMA to talk about being booted from a flight. Something's going on and somebody's not telling me something... Rolling Stone writer Alan Sepinwall gave his woke opinions about the Emmy nominations and snubs. Can Rolling Stone be any more full of itself? Fred Armisen has been secretly married for 2 years?! And she gave birth right after they started dating? That seems par for the course for Fred. Katy Perry dropped a new music video. She looks better than ever & the lyrics are as trite as ever. Ozzy Osbourne is fed up with Britney Spears spinning, Sharon almost gets lost in the couch, and Marc wants to bone Jack. Joy Mode brings you the Bonerline. Use promo code DREW. Call or text 209-66-Boner to communicate with the show. President Biden admits he would step down for a medical condition. Tom Mazawey chimes in on the MLB All Star game being boring and the uniforms sucking, The Detroit Tigers trading Tarik Skubal, and then Tom's phone gives out...Typical, Maz. Rolling Stone's 50 worst movie sequels of all time. Which franchise dominated the list? Joe Biden tested positive for Covid. Corey Feldman celebrated his birthday by having a dance off with Fred Durst. Jim's Picks: Songs about assassinations. John Hinkley Jr remains the biggest troll on the internet. Matthew Perry was all over sex sites looking for "friends." We are still waiting for answers from Kimberly Cheatle. Donald Trump is selling assassination shoes.
