This week, Dr. Jason Powers and Julie DeNofa are joined by Peter Maldonado, a Houston Clinical Outreach Representative at Discovery Behavioral Health.   Peter is in long-term recovery and hasn't had a drink or a drug since May 2, 2020. Although he was born in a small town in East Texas, Peter was always attracted to city life. Ironically, Peter was sent to a treatment center in Austin, Texas, where his recovery journey started. Austin is also where his career in Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder began.    Peter has worked in the field since October of 2009 and has been a part of two startup treatment centers. And he has also helped develop the recovery specialist program at Nova Recovery Center. Through his experience, Peter learned to be open-minded and listen to struggling individuals to understand better how he can support them in their journeys.    Although Peter's approach to recovery is blunt and honest, he is also very compassionate. He loves to see people progress and grow in their journey, but he also understands that the recovery journey isn't linear.    Topics Discussed: The power of showing up and overcoming Imposter Syndrome How Mentorship increases our chances of Long-Term Recovery Differentiating between Personal Recovery and a Career in Recovery The Keys for Long-Lasting Recovery  Respecting the “Disease of Addiction” and recognizing a person's humanity Finding Identity through the Yoga Community    Connect with Peter Maldonado:   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/peter.maldonado2  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/txsoberyogi/ Connect with Positive Recovery MD Podcast:   Website: https://www.positiverecoverymd.com  Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/577870242872032  YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4JcDF1gjlYch4V4iBbCgZg    Connect with Positive Recovery Centers Online:   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/positiverecoverycenters/  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PositiveRecoveryCenters/  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/positiverecoverycenters/ Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/positiverecoverycenters/    Contact Positive Recovery Centers:   If you or someone you know needs help, visit the website, or call the number below to schedule an assessment. The second season of American Vandal just launched on Netflix. To celebrate, we have an exclusive interview with documentary wunderkids Peter Maldonado and Sam Ecklund. In their sophomore year of high school, Peter and Sam followed the aftermath of a massive phallic vandalism at Hanover High in Oceanside, California. The school wrongly accused and expelled senior Dylan Maxwell, but ultimately, Sam and Peter's docu-series brought national attention to the school, and justice for Dylan. This season, they're taking their cameras all the way to St, Bernadine High School in Burlington, Washington. Journalist Lauren Lopez sits down with Peter and Sam to discuss the end of season one, what Ming Zhang's been up to, and the new serial vandal, The Turd Burglar.

No compromise. Those two words sum up the Chomps brand better than any other. Chomps make uber convenient, incredibly delicious meat snacks using 100% grass-fed beef. Their snacks contain no preservatives, no sugar and are certified Paleo, Non-GMO, and Whole30 approved. Their committed to these standards hasn't been without its share of obstacles. Like, how do you manufacture a consistent product while steering clear of all preservatives? Turns out, you manually inspects every single stick that bears the Chomps brand - we're talking millions every month. But Chomps' no compromise ethos has clearly struck a cord. The company has been profitable since day one, and seen year-over-year revenue growth between double and 10x every year since their 2011 launch. What's more astounding, Chomps co-founder and CEO Peter Maldonado was the company's sole full time employee for the first five years of the brand's existence.   We learned all this and more from Peter and fellow co-founder and COO Rashid Ali. In this conversation, Pete and Rashid tell the story of the brands origins in the crossfit world, break down the success of their ecomm-first approach, and tell us why their core values are sacrosanct.
