Melissa Yeager, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Claire's Place FoundationSince the planning stages of Claire's Place Foundation, Melissa has spent countless hours working for the cause and, of course, raising her two children, Claire (the foundation's namesake) and Ellie.  With many years' experience in project management and event planning, she has the drive and the experience needed to get the foundation off the ground as well as the personal history of raising a child with cystic fibrosis.  Melissa is also a strong supporter of many charities and fundraising activities in her community, mostly related to causes that support families and children living with this and other rare diseases.Founding Claire's Place Foundation has been a way for Melissa to give back and share her experience with other families living with cystic fibrosis.  “We have always been blessed with a supportive family and a wonderful group of friends.  It is my hope that we can provide the same type of support to families walking this path alone.  It definitely takes a village or in this case a foundation to raise a child with a chronic, life threatening disease like cystic fibrosis”To learn more about Claire's Place Foundation visit: https://clairesplacefoundation.org Please like, subscribe, and comment on our podcasts! Please consider making a donation: https://thebonnellfoundation.org/donate/The Bonnell Foundation website:https://thebonnellfoundation.orgEmail us at: thebonnellfoundation@gmail.com Thanks to our sponsors:Vertex: https://www.vrtx.comViatris: https://www.viatris.com/en

Metsä Wood and its partners have designed a hybrid sandwich wall element which will renew offsite construction. The innovation combines concrete with Kerto® LVL (laminated veneer lumber). Rules restricting the use of wood in UK buildings are hampering the switch to low-carbon building methods, according to timber architecture expert Andrew Waugh. Nonprofit Matt's Place Foundation and a group of area businesses are looking to ease that financial burden by building an eco-friendly, state-of-the-art, interactive “smart home” designed specifically for ALS patients and their families to live in while coping with the disease. Redcar Properties, the developer behind the new project at 843 N. Spring Street, is building a five-story structure 120,000 square feet of offices for rent above approximately 7,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space and subterranean parking for 141 vehicles. The New York City Council has approved the use of mass timber for the construction of buildings of up to 85 feet tall in the city. Lendlease has now completed the switch to 100 per cent renewable electricity supply across all of its projects, assets and offices in Europe. "One September 2nd 2018, the world experienced the great loss of one of its most brilliant, generous and loving voices, Cystic Fibrosis activist, YouTuber, motivational speaker and founder of Claire’s Place Foundation, Claire Wineland. Over the years I launched InvisiYouth Charity, Claire and I got to know one another and begin building a friendship while working together. Claire even became one of InvisiYouth’s first Global Brand Leaders! We talked so much about what our charities could do together, what we could forge together that would empower young adults with all chronic illnesses and, as Claire would say, “thrive in life.” One of our first plans we worked on was to have Claire be a special guest on the first season of InvisiYouth Chat Sessions. But we didn’t get that chance. Losing Claire brought so many emotions to those around the world that adored her on all scales. It was an absolute fact that all of InvisiYouth and myself especially wanted to still have Claire be part of our series. I made a promise to Claire earlier this year that no matter where life took us, our friendship would continue and we’d still work together. So this episode is how we get creative to keep working with Claire. We’re going to go through some of what Claire and I were planning to discuss, and some of the topics that Claire brought the most passion to in her mission. This is a showcase of Claire’s wondrous legacy. AND I have the blessing and fortune to interview a woman who’s not only one of the people closest to Claire, but also now forever part of the InvisiYouth family and my own, the Executive Director of Claire’s Place Foundation and her greatest role of being a mom of two, Claire’s mom, Melissa Yeager. I am forever changed by having Claire in my life these past three years, and while I will forever miss her laughter, humor, warmth and empowerment. Claire’s impact will remain for hundreds of thousands of people around the world. Thank you, Claire, for truly motivating a generation to live a life they’re proud, to thrive with chronic illness/disability, and to always lead a life of love, humor and giving. This is the first of many creative collaborations in our future, Claire, and this episode is for you." ~Dominique Viel, founder of InvisiYouth Charity See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Dave Aarons is the CEO of Unbundled Attorney, which uses a network of lawyers to provide legal services to families who otherwise would not be able to afford them. A veteran of the legal industry since 2004, Dave aims to establish the first donation-based unbundled legal clinic in the United States. Dave does not think that prohibitive costs should come between the average family and solid legal representation, and that unbundled legal services are beneficial to the legal industry even if they seem new and scary. In this episode, Dave discusses how his low-income upbringing fostered his self-reliant attitude, breaks down how unbundled legal services work, and asks you to reconsider how you engage with the social media you find comforting and secure.   Show Notes: How did Dave’s formative years shape his beliefs toward money? Raised by single mother who had to rely on thrift and coupon shopping. Due to these circumstances he learned to appreciate everything he owned and every opportunity that came his way. Realized the need to be independent and self-reliant, especially after his bike was stolen and he had to earn the money to buy a new one. Did his circumstances lead him to become an entrepreneur? Not really, because entrepreneurship is not especially stable or secure. Became an entrepreneur more out of stubbornness and wanting to have job and personal freedom. Realized residual payment through entrepreneurship would allow him to finance his hobbies and side-ventures. What are unbundled legal services and why are they so important? Normally to retain legal services, you need to pay a high fee up front, which bars a lot of lower-income individuals from obtaining representation. Unbundled legal services allow you to retain an attorney for specific aspects of your case rather than for the entire case up front. Allows you to pay for the case each step at a time, accommodating for limited finances. Unbundled Attorney matches these clients to lawyers who provide these specific legal services. How have traditional law firms responded to this service? Old school law firms are generally resistant to change, but the marketplace is forced to adapt due to the very high percentage (70-80%) of people who can’t afford traditional legal fees. It’s a matter of finding of more open-minded attorneys. How was Unbundled Attorney born? Used to work for a provider that offered a variety of legal services under a single fee, but said fee was prohibitively high for the average family, even with discounts. Tried increasing discount percentages, but it was still too much for many people, so gradually started tailoring options service by service for flat fees. Who has been the most impactful person in Dave’s journey to do well and achieve financial success? His mentor, Steve Douglas Who has been the most impactful person in Dave’s drive to do good? His mother. When Dave is having a bad day, what does he do to get himself out of his funk? Plays golf, writes in his journal, What book does Dave recommend to those seeking a more successful path in life? http://slightedge.org/ (The Slight Edge: Turning Simple Disciplines Into Massive Success & Happiness by Jeff Olson) What is the best piece of advice related to success Dave has for our listeners? Take a good, hard look at what you actually get out of the casual media you consume and whether or not it’s worth the free time you have. Places to find Dave: https://www.unbundledattorney.com/ (Unbundled Attorney)       Do Well & Do Good Challenge Nomination:   “Claire’s Place Foundation, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit organization providing support to children and families affected by cystic fibrosis (CF). Claire Wineland has defied the odds. At 20, she’s lived more than twice as long as doctors told her parents she would. Born with cystic fibrosis, Wineland has spent about a quarter of her life in hospitals, and her daily health regimen is a demanding routine of treatments, medications, and oxygen. Despite her health problems, though, she has learned to find purpose by helping others. At the age of 13 she founded Claire’s Place Foundation to provide support to CF patients and their families. She’s also touched many others with her YouTube videos and public talks where she speaks about her illness and dying, with charm, humor, and a life-affirming wisdom. We spoke to Wineland, a 2017 Global Genes’ Champion of Hope awardee, about her life with cystic fibrosis, what its taught her about living, and how finding a greater purpose than treating her own illness transformed her life.

Claire Wineland was born with cystic fibrosis or "CF", a genetic disease that causes excessive mucus secretions and collection, especially in the lungs. In her short life, Claire has undergone dozens of surgeries and has spent weeks at a time in the hospital. This is not, however, what characterizes her. Claire is a singer, an artist, a composer, and a natural-born comedian and speaker. She radiates with a warmth and wisdom beyond her years. She has been called a "little Buddha" a "bridge among people", and a "true old soul." She is precious to anyone who has met her, especially to her mother, Melissa, and her father, John. On April 13, 2010 after a relatively routine surgery, Claire became septic and within 24 hours, was in complete lung failure. Her parents were given the option of watching Claire die or putting her on a dangerous oscillator vent, which no child with CF has ever come off of. Her parents opted to put her on the high powered vent and into a drug induced coma so the doctors could try everything possible to reverse the damage to her lungs and her body. What followed was a remarkable two-week journey of prayer, love and healing. So many people were inspired by Claire's journey that a public Facebook page, "Claire Wineland Love, Songs and Updates", was created to disseminate the seemingly ever changing information. Within two weeks, the fans on the page grew to over 900. Out of this grew the desire and need for a foundation. Claire constantly strives to give back and make meaning of what she has had to go through; the message she shares is her way to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Claire's Place Foundation, Inc: www.clairesplacefoundation.org Eric Lumiere lives For the Love of Music + the Music of Love Music is one of the most elusive art forms. It has the power to uplift, touch, move and inspire people. When I create music, my intention is to share myself as fully and unconditionally as possible so that there may be no walls between us, no projections of who I'd like to be or think I am; just the essence of who I am, the discovery of which is a continuous process and one that I live for. Music can affect people in many ways and if I have one wish, it's that it touches you. That it's greatest potential is fulfilled, and that in listening to my music, you discover more of who you are, your truth, and are inspired to share your own beingness with the world. After graduating from the Clive Davis Dept. of Recorded Music at NYU in 2007, Eric's song "Anthem" (a bedroom demo) was remixed by DJs Filo and Peri and signed by top DJ Paul Van Dyk. Released in 13+ countries, "Anthem" broke the UK Top 40 at #39 and reached #1 on the US Billboard Dance Airplay. While continuing to work with Filo and Peri, Eric has been focusing on his next release, tentatively titled the ‘Under Love EP'. To learn more about Eric and his work, visit: www.ericlumiere.com
