The Daily Buddhist: 366 Days of Wisdom for Happiness, Inner Freedom, and Mindful Living by Pema Sherpa, Brendan Barca Amazon.com Thedailybuddhist.net 366 daily doses of profound and practical Buddhist teachings for true transformation. Why do so many people still embrace the wisdom of Buddhism, even after twenty-five hundred years? The answer lies in the fact that, although the world may look different now, humans still grapple with the same fundamental challenges: overwhelming emotions, discontentment, and a longing for happiness. These are the very challenges that Buddhist philosophy can help us overcome, empowering us to transform into fearless, compassionate, and joyful individuals. Buddhism provides a framework we can use to lead a great life—one in which we are kinder, have greater resilience, are more adaptable to change, and experience greater lightness and joy. The Daily Buddhist offers daily teachings of Buddhist wisdom and practices to help us navigate the challenges of everyday life. Drawing from many of the greatest Buddhist masters throughout history—renowned Indian philosophers like Nagarjuna and Santideva; Tibetan masters like Milarepa, Patrul Rinpoche, and Chögyam Trungpa; and, of course, the Buddha himself—the authors, Buddhist scholars and practitioners, deliver daily doses of Buddhist insights tailored for 21st century living. Each day of the year, you'll receive an insightful quote from a Buddhist master paired with a thought-provoking reflection that's accessible, practical, and modern. Over the course of the year, you'll learn: How mindfulness can help you find inner peace How to make friends with yourself through meditation How to overcome difficult emotions like anger, jealousy, and anxiety Why cultivating compassion leads to happiness Why you are not your thoughts How to tame your inner critic How to discover happiness that actually lasts This profound yet practical approach to Buddhist philosophy provides tools for true transformation. By the end of the year, you'll see the world and your mind in a new light, propelling you along the path to lasting happiness, self-mastery, and inner freedom.About the author Brendan Barca is an author, keynote speaker, entrepreneur, and Buddhist practitioner. He discovered Buddhism in his twenties, initially turning to meditation to cope with stress and burnout. Since then, he has practiced Tibetan Buddhsim for years, traveling to Nepal to learn from revered masters such as Dudjom Tenzin Yeshe Dorje Rinpoche. Experiencing the transformative effects of mindfulness, meditation, and Buddhist teachings in his own life, he co-founded Brema Solutions with his wife, Pema Sherpa, to bring these invaluable principles to corporations worldwide. Together, Pema and Brendan wrote their first book, The Daily Buddhist, and also run their popular newsletter of the same name. Brendan lives with his wife and daughter Samaya in Brooklyn, NY.

For sure not, if we compare how much time we lose on our smartphone, tablet or PC...If we want to gain faith in God or even better to connect to God, we have to do much more. Without surrendering to God, we can't achieve that. For instance, I have decided for myself to live a religious life, this means, to be honest, to care for people and to surrender my life to God. On the other hand, the great religious leaders have total failed, remember the sex scandals from the Catholic Church...The pastors sexual abused the kids and no punishment so that 50% of the American Catholics left the church...(Pope Benedict resigned because he was facing criminal charges by the People's Common Law for crimes against humanity perpetrated by the Vatican church. Slaughter of innocent Native children in Canada, poisoning of populations, human trafficking, child torture, and many more things.) For the Dalai Lama, everything is good,… Chögyam Trungpa for instance, the famous Meditation Master, died from liver cirrhoses because of his alcohol consume!!! Wealthy families are buying a Lama title for their first child; Rinpoches (high religious leaders) procreate secretly or openly their own kids, and for sure their children are Rinpoches, or you can buy this title… Today after a 6-week meditation course you can teach meditation… I can't understand that the monks eat animals, beat children who like to become monks; and at the same time saying, they have compassion for every being. The sex and corruption scandals of the Thai monks are normal. The Hindu Guru sex and corruption scandals are devastating, read the books: “Holly Hell” (over Mata Amritananda Mai Devi)  or “Cartwheels in a Sari” (over Sri Chinmoy). India is the biggest slaughterhouse in the world. And even for the Indian Hindus, it is forbidden to eat and kill animals. For the Muslim in the Turkey, it is recently allowed to marry girls under 16 and to have sex with them and why death penalty for girls who had approached a man in Iran without sex...? The German's young girls are afraid to go alone out, because of the Syrian refugees in Germany who are raping them. For the Muslim men in worse Muslim Countries, women/girls have no rights, no soul...Why are the religious leaders against SEX, even they have SEX secretly and abuse us when we enjoy SEX? SEX has nothing to do with GOD, Religion!!!! The basic fundamentals of any Religion are, to be honest, to care for the divine/God/Allah and to care for the people. If we see the whole picture:With all these abusing of God, Religion, Sex (double moral). Enjoying brutal, rude movies. Making wars just out of fun. Printing money like crazy…  What can we expect for our future? Do you really think that God will help and protect us under these circumstances? If God would have created a perfect world, who would think any more of God. As a student of Chögyam Trungpa, I heard the phrase “back to square one” quite a lot  •  he implied that doing something over and over again is very important — in our dharma practice, in our meditation, and in our studies  •  throughout his teachings, Trungpa Rinpoche put a great deal of emphasis on building a strong foundation, and on going back to the very earliest teachings of the Buddha, in particular to the teachings of the Four Noble Truths: the reality of suffering, the causes of suffering, the possibility of the cessation of suffering, and various pathways to do so  •  in a more immediate sense, going back to square one can mean going back to your very first personal inspiration to embark on the path of dharma  •  why are you doing this? what is the point? what inspired you from the very beginning?  •  going back to square one means to always touch back on the foundation  •  no matter how “advanced” you may feel, you always have to check back and ask: are you actually working on yourself, are you actually dealing with your own  neuroses, your own habits, your own obstacles?  •  and as you extend your practice to working with others to cultivate wisdom and compassion and skillful means, how are you working with that?  •  so you go back to the beginning; you start from square one, over and over and over  •  this practice of going back to square one keeps things fresh and honest; it keeps us in tune with the fundamental questions that we need to look into.

I've been edging closer to burnout than I would like to admit. I can become too entranced by the summer and work myself to the bone while the weather is good. We don't always have to make hay while the sun is shining. Too much hay-making, and we get a little more than out of balance and out of touch. This week's rain has me reflecting on how nature provides opportunities for rest and reflection. This podcast is perfect for you workhorses who, like me, keep going long after we're told to stop. Listen if you've ever struggled to find the balance in work during the summer or have looked for a way to describe this feeling. In this episode, we use the rain, Robert Moore's manly archetypes and Trungpa's Great Eastern Sun to reflect on how we can get out of balance by following our thinking mind through task lists. The thinking mind can bring us opportunities but too much, and we begin to overthink into fear and scarcity.  Stay for discussion and regular meditations/journeys by joining the Quiet Voice Podcast Group: https://t.me/+tuGfFV69XAY1MDQ0 Share your thoughts with me on Instagram by tagging me @aquietvoicepodcast. Lama Govinda, even at a point when he wasn't very happy with the way Trungpa Rinpoche was behaving, said that he still had to admit there was no one who walked across the Himalayas and came out who had that light more than Trungpa." – Jack Kornfield In this episode, Jack dives into:A celebration of the life, teachings, and impact of Chögyam Trungpa RinpocheThe Vimalakīrti Sutra, and how certain Bodhisattvas teach as householders so that their message can be best understood by the worldHow Jack being invited to teach alongside Ram Dass, Sharon Salzberg, and Joseph Goldstein on the faculty of Trungpa's Naropa University in Boulder, CO sparked their teaching careers in the WestLama Govinda's view on Trungpa's innate radiant brightness and his "lion's roar"The traditions, trainings, and spirit of Shambala through the metaphor of the rising sunMeeting our life and practice with an openness and fearlessnessBuddhist personality types and their unique seeds of awakeningTrungpa's discipline for practice, and his deep devotion for his teachers and dharma lineagePing-ponging between Ram Dass's and Trungpa Rinpoche's dueling Bhakti and Buddhism sessions the opening summer at Naropa"Trungpa Rinpoche gave himself as fully to the West as any Buddhist teacher that I know that has come. And in a more remarkable way, he absorbed our culture, our language, our customs, who we are, into himself and said, 'Alright, let's play! Let's take the seed of the Dharma and really make it sparkle and alive in the West.'" – Jack Kornfield This Dharma Talk on 4/01/1987 at Spirit Rock Meditation Center was originally published on DharmaSeed.orgSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Professor Reynolds details his journey through American academia, explains why he turned down an invitation from the CIA to create Tibetan propaganda, and shares anecdotes of Tibetologists such as Hugh Richardson and Edward Conze, including the latter's escape from the Nazis and defection from Communist activism. Professor Reynolds also recalls his first out of body experience brought on by a car crash, the mystical visions of water spirits, dakinis, and other beings that have featured in his life since, and tells the story of the tragic consequences of the Gelugpa destruction of the psychic barrier erected by Padmasambhava to protect Tibet from China. … Video version: https://www.guruviking.com/podcast/ep200-lama-vajranatha-professor-john-myrdhin-reynolds

And it took me that long to realize that it wasn't about getting something, it was about opening to what was there. But I was so attached to that wonderful experience that it was really subverting the deeper understanding of what meditation really is. So it took me such a long time, but finally, after two years of struggle, something released, let go, and I just settled back and opened to whatever was presenting itself.” – Joseph GoldsteinIn this conversation, Joseph shares about:Growing up in the Catskills and his early encounters with death and loss • Studying philosophy at Columbia University and living in New York City during his college years • Joining the Peace Corps and living in Thailand • His first encounters with Buddhist monks and the resonance of finding the spiritual path • The ups and downs of his initial years of practice and finding his teacher, Munindra • Meeting Sharon at her first retreat with S.N. "I may be crucified for this... but happily!" Sam Bercholz is the Founder and Editor In Chief of Shambhala Publications, was an attendant, student, close friend and constant collaborator of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche's for the last 17 years of his life, publishing virtually Trungpa's entire literary catalog. He co-hosted a weekly public radio show with Alan Watts (produced by an Anton Lavey devotee), and Sam personally introduced Trungpa Rinpoche to Alan Watts ("Alan was Trunpa's literary hero.") He shares the details of their first meeting, and the bombshell first impression Alan Watts made on Trungpa Rinpoche ("That was a horrible disappointment"). Sam also made the introduction between renowned Zen Master Suzuki Roshi and Trungpa Rinpoche, which became a lifelong friendship between the two most significant Buddhist teachers in North American history. Sam also grew up with Alan Ginsberg, Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Lex Hixon, was the original mover and shaker of the spiritual boom in the Bay Area in the late 1960's and 70's. He even hosted His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche (considered the living Buddha of the last 100 years) on his only visit to North America in 1976. Sam tells mind-blowing stories of what it was like for him to be the "designated driver" for Trungpa Rinpoche's early acid tests with his students ("best job ever") and how Trungpa never appeared to be affected by the LSD or the alcohol intake. Sam shares (for the first time publicly) his feelings about the controversial offshoot Shambhala Buddhism, which he reveals was created years after Trungpa Rinpoche's death, without his personal blessing and against many of his students support. "I tried to stop Shambhala Buddhism from happening. I thought it was a mistake to create a new religion, because Trungpa Rinpoche was not into starting new religions." Sam also shares about his relationship with legendary poet Jim Harrison, and towards the end of the podcast, fields questions from Jaymee's student Tim D'amico and his partner Lacee. Samuel is the genuine article mover and shaker of the early Buddhist scene in the US, and what George Martin was for The Beatles, Samuel has been for the Dharma flourishing in the West (though you'll hear he considers himself more of a Forest Gump). You'll hear the unbelievable stories of Samuel as an 18 year old co-hosting a weekly San Francisco based radio show with legendary Zen philosopher Alan Watts called "Adventures In Consciousness", and the last epic hang Chögyam Trungpa had with Alan Watts on the day Alan died. Samuel then blows Jaymee's mind by describing Chogyam Trungpa needing to perform an exorcism for Alan Watts a month later, claiming Alan "doesn't know he is dead" and "is stuck" in the bardo. You'll hear about Samuel's friendship with legendary clandestine chemist Owsley Stanley in San Francisco, who synthesized a drug that left Samuel high for two weeks straight. As if this isn't enough, Samuel has flatlined twice in his life, and in his most recent book "A Guided Tour Of Hell" (as well as on this podcast), Samuel shares the gory details of his experience, what he describes as feeling like an eternity in a hell realm, followed by the surprising pain of returning to his body ("leaving is easy; coming back is incredibly painful"). Political awakening is the part of our spiritual awakening journey where we critically examine the sociopolitical, cultural, and economical zeitgeist of our time. This sets the stage for deeper inquiry into who we are, as we begin to define ourselves outside the social and political systems that infiltrate every aspect of our culture & consciousness. Show notes & Breakdown: 5:09- My political awakening journey. How privilege makes us ignorant and politically disengaged (especially the Millennial generation) 10:40- My thoughts on BLM as a catalyst for the culture war. How social media was weaponized as a political tool for violence. 15:54- The hate machine (a term coined by the Black queer community) & its threat to democracy 18:10- Feeling helpless, confused, lost, fearful, angry, despair? What lessons do Alchemy and other Arts offer us for working with the Divine? Is the Divine within and without us? The DIVINE, you say?! Indeed. We mere mortals have been pursuing the mastery of several arts for centuries to attempt working with the Divine, often failing to "see the forest for the trees". Failing to see how the Divine is everywhere, including within us and how that Divine may be touched & illuminated (!) through mind-set and physical pursuits while acknowledging we mortals don't own any of this along the way. This episode explores such weighty topics of finding spiritual gold through the intersection of humbleness and practices such as alchemy and distillation. Find the essay on NYC Aromatica.com. Chögyam Trungpa's book: "Work, Sex, Money: Real Life on the Path of Mindfulness" is referenced in the episode. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/essential-aromatica/message

A few years have passed. Una wakes up early because it's the most important holiday of the year, Shambhala Day, and she's anxious. She wants to see Trungpa Rinpoche but she's worried that her mother won't wake up in time, that they'll have to sit in the coatroom. Every year, Trungpa Rinpoche gives the annual address, sharing his predictions for the coming year with the community, now called the sangha. Una wonders what Shambhala means and gets confused by all the different things people say about it.
