In this episode we are traveling to the Hidden Valley Forest School with CIRCLE Member, Bianca Hagen, to learn why her school is so uniquely set up to instill a lifelong love of learning in children. Bianca Hagen is sharing how her forest school is growing into a Preschool through Second Grade (with plans to include 3rd-4th grades in 2025-2026)!Hidden Valley Forest School is located on 9 beautiful acres near downtown Crozet! The program is child-centered, with a focus on social and emotional development, emergent outdoor learning, and play. In this episode, we learn how, at Hidden Valley, children are highly engaged, resourceful, and resilient learners, with Mother Nature serving as a dynamic backdrop to their learning.MEET BIANCA: Bianca Hagen founded Hidden Valley Forest School on her 9-acre property in central Virginia. Hidden Valley was founded in 2022 as a play-based, nature-based preschool for children ages 3 to 5 years old. In the 2024-2025 school year, Hidden Valley will be expanding to include grades Kindergarten through Second grade. Bianca hopes to expand to fourth grade the following school year.Prior to becoming a forest school founder and teacher, Bianca worked as a renewable energy consultant for Fortune 500 companies and as a foreign policy analyst and Portuguese/Spanish linguist for the US government. She pivoted her interests and focus after having children, becoming fascinated with early child development, attachment theory, and educational environments that truly allow children to thrive. When her research pointed her in the direction of forest schools in Scandinavia, she became devoted to providing her children with that experience. After moving to central Virginia, Bianca realized her property was the perfect backdrop to establish a thriving forest school community, extending the many benefits of nature play to other families. Bianca Hagen is a certified Forest School Teacher through the Forest School Teacher Institute (Levels 1, 2, and 3). She is also CPR certified and is currently attending an intensive 9-month Wilderness Immersion course at the Living Earth School in Afton, VA. Previously, she worked as a Lead Afternoon Teacher at Little Explorers Discovery School, a Reggio Emilia preschool located in Crozet, VA, where she received training in the Reggio Emilia educational approach.CONNECT WITH VICTORIA:WEBSITE: www.outdoor-classrooms.comEMAIL: Victoria@outdoor-classrooms.comInstagram: instagram.com/outdoor_classrooms/Facebook: Facebook.com/OutdoorClassrooms1OUTDOOR CLASSROOM RESOURCES:The Outdoor Classrooms CIRCLE MembershipThe Outdoor Teaching Bootcamp Seeds of Inspiration for Outdoor Learning Card DeckFREE PDF Library of Nature-Based Children's Book & Weekly Seedling

Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Save the Date: EAGx LatAm, published by LGlez on September 8, 2022 on The Effective Altruism Forum. EAGx LatAm will take place in Mexico City at the Casa de la Bola Museum, 6th-8th of January. One of our goals is to connect the LatAm community with the broader international community. So, although this event is primarily for the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking EA communities, applications from experienced members of the international community are very welcome! What better way to start 2023? This will overlap with the EA Fellowships and Visitors Programme that we're running in Mexico 1st Nov- 30th Jan with the aim of kickstarting an EA Hub in the city. So expect great EA vibes on top of fantastic local (vegan) cuisine and fun cultural activities like city tours and regional dance lessons. Applications will open in October. Why EAGx LatAm? 1) The EA movement in LatAm has grown over the last couple of years, with new local and university groups in Mexico, Chile and Colombia joining already well-established groups like EA Brazil. This EAGx is an occasion to foster a sense of community and connect people who are facing similar opportunities and challenges. 2) Many people from Latin America experience barriers to attending international EAG(x) conferences in the US or Europe, including visa problems and inconvenient and expensive international connections. As a result, the international community is missing out on talent and insights from a sizable part of the population, while the LatAm community misses on opportunities and valuable networks. With this in mind, the conference aims to: -Raise the profile of EA in LatAm. -Create and strengthen connections between EAs within LatAm, the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking communities. -Create and strengthen connections between EAs in LatAm and the rest of the world. Who is this conference for? This conference is for you if you.: -Are from LatAm, new to EA and looking forward to learning more and connecting with like-minded people. Most of our talks will be introductory and cover a broad range of topics. -Are from LatAm, very much not new to EA, and excited to meet other members of the community. -Are an experienced member of the community from outside LatAm and keen to connect with EAs who might be under your radar. I don't speak Spanish, is this event for me? Yes! First of all, although the lead organisers (Sandra Malagón and Laura González) are also the coordinators of the Spanish-speaking community, we're in touch with the Brazilian community, and our goal is to welcome people interested in EA across LatAm and the world at large, regardless of language(s) spoken. Most talks will use English as a lingua franca, with the exception of a few topic-specific talks and workshops like “Community building in the Portuguese/Spanish-speaking world”, which will be run in the relevant languages. We will have a system of stickers or colour-coded tags for participants to signal the languages they speak. If you're unsure about whether to apply, err on the side of applying. If you have any questions or comments don't hesitate to write to latam@eaglobalx.org . We accept emails in English, Spanish and Portuguese :) See you in Mexico! The Organising Team Thanks for listening. To help us out with The Nonlinear Library or to learn more, please visit nonlinear.org.

Wearing masks in the covid-19 is causing terrible confusion, whilst at a recent coffee bar I was listening to two old English people speaking from behind masks to a young Portuguese /Spanish girl the simple order turned into a comedy of errors or Covid Confusion it didn't help by stating on the menu kids eat for free after three, you're asking for your metaphors to be mixed ,it's so difficult I remember when I first went to France and tried to buy a car the woman's daughter went in the house and brought me a lemon I had pronounced slightly wrong the translation of Citroen as citron its so easy done with or without masks .

ANCIENT LIGHTS: THE REAL DEAL ABOUT THE AMERICAN NATIONS BIRTH: HOW THE RACE CARD EVIL INFILTRATED AND UNDERMINED THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT by Christine and Haywood Isaac This volume is the sequel to the first book, covering the period ranging from the Portuguese-Spanish exploration of the New World (circa. the 1500s A.D.), the founding of the thirteen British Colonies and their Revolutionary War with Britain to become independent States. The book addresses the mistake America's founders made by allowing the Race Card Evil to enter into both the 1774 Union and 1781-1789 Confederation (against the wishes of the majority of the fledgling States)--which brought about America's 1861-1864 Civil War. Moreover, the book addresses the Post Civil War battle fought to oust the Race Card Evil's African Slave Trade from the American government--which gave rise to groups such as the KU Klux Klan, Marcus Garvey's U.N.I.A., Noble Drew Ali's Moorish Science Temple of America, The Nation of Islam, and Malcolm X's battle to oust the Race Card Evil from the American psyche (which battle still rages on). Most importantly, this book addresses the Race Card Evil's development and evolution in Europe to produce the rise of Nazi Germany--which produced the creation of nuclear weaponry which currently threatens the entire globe. In short, this book addresses many of the myths now held to be truths that causes Americans to be sectionalized in their thinking and behavior towards one another. Christine Isaac is a native of Baltimore, Maryland and is an alumna of US Careers Institute Fort Collins, Colorado). Having over seven years of experience in historical research in the areas of the Western world’s three major religions (known as Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) and in America’s legal-political history. As co-author of the two-volume “Ancient Lights” works entitled “The Real Deal about the Race Card Evil” (Vol. 1) and “The Real Deal about the American Nation’s Birth (Vol. 2), she is responsible for advising all needed revisions concerning general public readability and understanding of the text and also for recommending the inclusion of critical biblical passages and political encounters that have historically impacted female equality in America and around the world. Haywood Isaac is a native of Baltimore, Maryland, and an alumnus of Coppin State University (Baltimore, MD). Having over forty years of historical research background in the Western world’s three major religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) and in America’s legal and political history. Being the great-grandson of a Tsaragi (Cherokee) woman (on his fathers’ side of the family) and the grandson of a Baptist Christian Minister (on his mother’s side of the family), Haywood spent most of his young adult years researching while becoming a member of groups such as the Five Percent, Moorish Science Temple of America, Sunni Islam, and Hebrew-Judaic studies for students. https://www.amazon.com/ANCIENT-LIGHTS-Infiltrated-Undermined-Government/dp/1985389800/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&qid=1591488078&refinements=p_27%3AHaywood+Isaac&s=books&sr=1-2&text=Haywood+Isaac http://www.bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/twia/chisaac.mp3

January is a perfect time to heat it up in the studio! So we had our fave Brazilian Musical Auntie come by with a dose of modern Brazilian tunes. Jen Nascimento (Tia Jenny) is a percussionist focusing on African and Brazilian drums, and a trained singer as well. For 20 years she has sung and played in jazz, afrobeat, blues, and Latin bands, often reinterpreting the diverse Brazilian classics she grew up hearing at home. Her love of hip-hop had her collecting vinyl in the 90s, and today Tia Jenny ("Aunt Jenny" in Portuguese&Spanish) curates and spins for lovers of world bass and tribal-digital, as well as emerging soul and hip hop. She is music editor of Epitome online journal Epitomexo.com (playlists, reviews)

During the late 15th century to about the 18th century Europe would be engaged in extensive overseas exploration and would also emerge as the “center” of the world, at least in regard to its power, militarily and economically. This is the start of the age of European colonialism, sometimes referred to as the first age of empires (the second one starting in the late 19th century with the “scramble for Africa” and ending in the wake of World War II). A question that we need to address is why? Why did Europe suddenly become so interested in the rest of the world, and why did it come to dominate it?First of all, the emerging nation-states in Europe began seeking power in the competition against their rivals. Competition was fierce in the 15th century, but it would become even more so with the addition of a religious component thanks to the Protestant reformation. That would make it to some extent a rivalry between Protestant and Catholic nations. In this episode, a second European nation, Spain, gets involved in Southeast Asia by discovering the Philippines, a part of Southeast Asia that had not gotten much attention previously. Then we will see Spain's attempts to take Indonesia and its valuable spice trade from Portugal. This map explains the Portuguese-Spanish dispute in Southeast Asia. It shows three ideas on where to put the "Tordesillas antimeridian," the line between the Portuguese and Spanish claims. Only the line on the right is in the correct place. The dotted line is where Ferdinand Magellan thought the Southeast Asian mainland was. Source: Stalemate at Bajadoz. Do you think you would like to become a podcaster on Blubrry?
