This week, we continue our arc of new GenX authors. This week, we are talking with the engaging Chuck Suffel about his new comic, Sherlock Holmes and the Wonderland Conundrum, a delightful mash-up of two iconic universes that, amazingly, taste great together. Chuck Suffel is a comic book writer first published under the pseudonym Daniel Charles in the Harvey Award Nominated 27 Club Comic Anthology from Red Stylo Media. Since then he has appeared in several anthology projects from several indie publishers, most recently penning two stories in The Rockabilly Rambler anthology. Chuck is also the technology coordinator at a small private school in NYC, a husband, and the father of two insane teenagers. Chuck is tired. The Star Wars prequels often draw distain from ST fans and movie lovers in general. Is this opinion warranted? Well after re-watching Episode II Attack of the Clone recently, I can agree that it is hot garbage. We also get a bit more nostalgic with this week's download as it features Sonic Adventure 2. We also go hands on with Crossing #5 by Red Stylo Media and round out the show with our continued exploration of the house of Chris Collins as we review Rennaissance Man as the fragrance of the week. We also give shouts to one of our favorite comics of the past few years, Crossing by Red Stylo Media as well as the crew from the Blerdicorn Speaks podcast. We round out the show talking about the inexpensive goodness of Uomo by Ermenegilo Zenga. Note to self, don't play with the box while you are talking about the fragrance lol. I've been running these mastermind groups for over a year now, and I've seen how powerful they can be for the right creators. Everybody has blindspots. We ALL have things in our creative lives we can’t see from the inside. We all struggle with self doubt and paralysis, and we are all prone to getting stuck. Albert Einstein said "we can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them." If you're ready to get new perspectives and solutions on your challenges from creators who have overcome them, a mastermind can provide that. The right mastermind will support you, not let you fail, and push you to new heights. Now, I realize many of you have gotten to this point largely on your own and may even be proud of that. (And you should be!) But at a certain point, what got you here, won't get you there. Your network may be your single greatest asset, and being a part of a dedicated mastermind group will quickly become the most invaluable part of your network. Joining a MasterMInd may be just what you're looking for IF…

Creator Talks spotlights writers and artists working in comic books and other mediums. On today’s show I have just such a guest who produces illustrations for comics and books. Rachel Perciphone Kilbury creates fantasy/sci-fi illustrations and cover art portraying strong, diverse characters within fantastical and colorful worlds. I met Rachel at the New Jersey Comic Expo, and you can hear her first interview with me from the con floor on episode #5 of Creator Talks. Rachel earned a BFA from Moore College of Art and Design and currently works for comic book publisher. Among her credits are coloring “Phantom Flight” in the It Was Metal Anthology OGN, written by Josh Swartz and Jeremiah Jay with art by Bob Hall (The Avengers, Shadowman). Her other work includes “Twisted Endings-Snow White” for Infected by Art Volume 6, the cover for Knightmares by G.A. Finocchiaro and a chapter in the upcoming Cosmic Love a Red Stylo comic anthology inspired by Florence + The Machine. We talk about how the idea for Cosmic Love came to her, and how she feels about doing commissions at comic cons. Do you like set goals each year? Do you find it difficult to reach them? We talk about how Rachel set her goals for 2019, how she tracks them, and makes it manageable to obtain them when life gets in the way. And when I Kick Back With The Creator, we talk flaming spatulas and salt lines! Enrica Jang (House of Montresor), Alex Cormack (work published by Image, IDW & ComixTribe) and Mark Mullaney (Ninja Bear) join me to talk about there Kickstarter for issues #2 & #3 of Crossing, a six-issue paranormal series. What's it all about? "An annoying goth princess haunts the rookie train conductor who ran her over. Paranormal couples counseling, anyone?" Enrica is also the Editor-in-Chief of Red Stylo Media, an independent publishing company founded in 2008. Her co-creators, Alex and Mark worked with Enrica on the Poe Twisted Anthology and the synergy the team creates during our interview is palpabile. Besides talking about Crossing, the Kickstarter rewards, and the book’s bright future, we go a bit “off the rails” with fun questions I ask all my guests. This week’s guest is Enrica Jang, the writer of Crossing from Red Stylo Media. This is a solid and unique ghost story comic. I was blown away by the first issue so I was quick to back her new Kickstarter campaign for the second and third issues. At the time of this recording, Enrica is halfway to her funding goal with three weeks left. After the campaign meets its budget, the only stretch goals planned are for more comics which is something I really respect. I think we can all get behind more comics. You can find Enrica and Red Stylo Media at RedStylo.com as well as Facebook and Twitter. If you back the Red Stylo Media Patreon, you’ll receive access to the previous anthology titles from the publisher too. In other news, former guest Pat Shand is back on Kickstarter to fund the release of the original graphic novel Afterglow with artist K. Lynn Smith. It’s a post-apocalyptic adventure following a girl and her giant mutated cat. I’m so in. In other other news, I had mentioned some time ago that I was going to make a comic. That is still happening and is moving forward to some extent. After completing the Comics Experience Intro to Comic Book Writing course (which I highly recommend), I ended up with a five page script that I was really happy with. I am now working on getting this made. It’s something small, but it’s coming together. I saw the layouts last week and it was amazing. Everyone should make comics because it feels so awesome seeing your words come to life like this. I’ll keep you guys posted as this develops.
