The response was so positive, and they enjoyed it so much, they decided to continue booking shows and writing songs. They recorded and released a homemade CD titled Rise Up; which sold over 1,000 copies at local shows. Shortly after, friend and local musician, Sawyer Rikard, joined the band on bass guitar in 2015, bringing their stage sound and performance to another level. In March of 2016, they released a follow-up EP, All Fall Down, which debuted #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. They soon began touring and being invited to festivals such as Rocklahoma, SXSW, Rockfest, Dirtfest, Loud in Lima, etc.In 2018, they joined forces with Legend Recordings, and released another EP, Ascension, which became their biggest release yet with singles “Back to Life” and “Killer Queen” landing on the radio. Shortly after, they added local powerhouse drummer (and childhood friend of Sawyer), Dakota Watson, to form the rhythm section Casandra, Paul, and Sawyer had always dreamed of. In 2019, they recorded standalone single “Love Will Win” with producer/videographer, Jake Jones, which gained even more radio play, and placed them on numerous national tours; supporting artists such as Tantric, Saliva, Yngwie Malmsteen, Dokken, and being added to the KISS Kruise and NAMM Show. The band continued to write, record, livestream, and perform wherever they could during the 2020 pandemic, and only continued to gain traction and fans from all over the world. Reaching out on a whim, they won over the attention of renowned producer/songwriter, Elvis Baskette, and shortly thereafter, entered the studio to record their first professionally made, full length album, Street Magic, in 2021. This release proved to be a monumental success, skyrocketing their audience with over 5 million views and streams across all platforms. Radio singles from this release alone include “For the Record”, “Despicable”, “Repeat Offender”, “Can't Quench the Fire”, and “Only Human”.Paralandra has since toured the country on multiple headlining runs, and is constantly supporting iconic bands such as Warrant, Lita Ford, Firehouse, Last in Line, and countless others with no end in sight. They reentered the studio with Elvis Baskette in 2023 and recorded their 2nd studio album, which is due April 4, 2024. They plan for this release to be just as big, if not bigger than the last, as they continue to record, write, tour, and work tirelessly to build their brand, and change the direction of rock music to be a force for good in this world.

A (relatively) in-depth analysis of the 1975 album 'A Night at the Opera' by Queen in (just under) twenty minutes. In this episode I am in discussion with Dr. Andrew Webber.Queen's previous album, Sheer Heart Attack had achieved commercial success and the single Killer Queen reached number two on the UK Singles Chart. Despite this success, the band was broke at the time, essentially due to a contract they had signed which meant that they would produce albums for a production company, who would then sell the album to a record label. This meant that Queen saw almost none of the money they earned. Brian May was living in a bedsit, while Freddie Mercury lived in a flat with rising damp. The matter eventually came to a head when the recently married John Deacon was denied a cash advance of £4,000 by the band's manager for a deposit on a house. The group's increasing frustration led to Mercury writing the song Death on Two Legs, which would serve as the opening track to A Night at the Opera. Upon release, A Night at the Opera became Queen's first number-one album in the UK and produced the band's most successful single, Bohemian Rhapsody. The song has since become popular worldwide. In 2011, a digitally remastered version of the album was released.I hope you enjoy the podcast and do leave feedback if you like what you have heard.Mathew Woodall

This week we dive into Killer Queen Arcade Game. If you are in the indie arcade space you will know about Killer Queen Arcade Game, but do you know the history of it? We are honored to speak with Josh DeBonis, the President of Bumble Bear Games. We talked about how Killer Queen Arcade Game started as a field game heavily inspired by European tabletop games, making a prototype, and the role that Eugene Garrvis and Logan Arcade played in launching the game. Since growing in popularity Killer Queen Arcade Game built a community around it that would hold tournaments all over the country, this in time developed into what we now know as BumbleBash, the national championship for Killer Queen Arcade Game and other indie arcade games. BumbleBash 5 will be held this year at the end of October. Don't miss out, it will be a weekend packed with indie arcade games. 1974 - December: Montrose “Paper Money”

What the Riff?!?

Play Episode Listen Later May 29, 2023 41:29

Montrose was considered to be America's answer to Led Zeppelin in the early 70's.  Founder Ronnie Montrose had played with a number of musicians including Van Morrison, Boz Scaggs, and with Edgar Winter on the hit singles “Frankenstein” and “Free Ride.”  He formed the band bearing his name with bassist/keyboardist Alan Fitzgerald, drummer Denny Carmassi, and front man Sammy Hagar.  Paper Money is the group's second album, and was the band's highest-charting release, reaching number 65 on the Billboard 200 chart.  This follow-up to their self-titled debut album took on a broader style, with a stronger range of rhythm and dynamics while downplaying the heavy metal feel of the first album.  Ronnie Montrose thought that the heavier music was a passing thing.  However Montrose was just ahead of its time, and heavy metal was about to explode.  Ronnie Montrose had a strict no-drug use policy for concerts, as he wanted all the members to be in top shape on their instruments and vocals for the show. The sessions for Paper Money were often marred by the deteriorating relationship between Montrose and Hagar.  Soon after this album release, Sammy Hagar would leave the band for a solo career and eventual duties as the front man for Van Halen. Fitzgerald would go on to play for Night Ranger, and as an offstage keyboard player for Van Halen in the 90's.  Carmassi would play for a number of artists including Heart, Whitesnake, Al Stewart, Kim Carnes, and Joe Walsh, as well as his own solo work, placing him on more recorded albums than Sammy Hagar.Wayne features this rocking album for today's podcast. StarlinerWe start this podcast with an instrumental with a space theme — prior to Star Wars.  This song is the final track for side 1 of the album.  Spaceage SacrificeAnother space themed song, this one was written by Hagar and Montrose.  Although considered “sci-fi rock,” the song itself is a bit critical of the effort and money spent to go to the moon when troubles remained unsolved on Earth.  "Don't think twice spaceage sacrifice.  Well, let's go back when it all was starting.  A man on the moon and people were starving."Paper Money This track is a critique of the monetary system in a time of inflation.  “Take away all my silver, take away my gold, and hand me a stack of paper, paper money don't hold.”  This one is the first single from the album, and the concluding track.I've Got the FireWayne saves his favorite track for last.  It is a hard-driving song with explosive energy.  This one may benefit from the concealed tension between Montrose's edgy tone and Hagar's vocal virtuosity.  It would be the last one the band recorded before Hagar left the band to pursue a solo career. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Puttin' On the Ritz by (from the motion picture “Young Frankenstein”)Mel Brooks' black and white comedy classic featured Dr. Frankenstein (pronounced FRAHNK-en-steen) and the monster in Broadway-styled number. STAFF PICKS:You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet by Bachman Turner OverdriveRob get's the staff picks rolling with a Canadian band's number 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.  The song was intended as a joke for Randy Bachman's brother Gary, who had a stutter.  It was used as a “work track” to set up the mics and amps in the studio, but it wound up being a hit after it was included on their “Not Fragile” album.Killer Queen by QueenBruce's staff pick is the first U.S. hit from Queen.  It went to number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, and is off their third album “Sheer Heart Attack.”  It is the first Queen song to incorporate the cabaret-style and harmonies that we know today as the quintessentially Queen sound.  The lyrics are about a high class call girl.Longfellow Serenade by Neil Diamond Lynch brings us a song inspired by an incident in school where Diamond used the poetry of Henry W. Longfellow to woo a girl.  It went to number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 on the Adult Contemporary charts.  It is off Diamond's ninth studio album, "Serenade."I've Got the Music In Me by Kiki Dee and the Kiki Dee BandWayne wraps up the staff picks on a positive note.  The lyrics describe how the singer will not be deterred because they have the music in them.  Kiki Dee is best known in the U.S. for her duet with Elton John, but is better known in England as a singer of "blue eyed soul."  She was the first white British artist to be signed by Motown. NOVELTY TRACK:Kung Fu Fighting by Carl DouglasInterest in martial arts in the early 70's inspired this song which would go to number 1 on the US, UK, Canadian, and Australian charts.

The so-called ‘conspiracy theorists' are scoring points left and right: Yes, the NSA is spying on everyone. Yes, strange things went down at Area 51. And now, yes again, Lady Di was murdered. With Scotland Yard “assessing [the] relevance and credibility” of surrounding her death nearly 16 years ago, what does this say about the current state of political assassinations? Should we ask Musharraf? Tonight on Ground Zero, Clyde Lewis welcomes Paranoia Magazine‘s Editor-In-Chief, Elana Freeland, back to the show to help us reopen the case of the ‘Killer Queen: Royal Hounds On The Grassy Knoll‘!Originally Broadcast On 08/20/2013
