Today we sit down with acclaimed comic writer-artist David Lapham to explore his remarkable journey from penciler at Valiant Comics on titles like Shadowman and Harbinger, to working under Jim Shooter at Defiant Comics where he co-created Warriors of Plasm, before creating his own publishing company, El Capitan Books, to self-publish his signature series Stray Bullets. David reflects on that crime-drama masterpiece, especially how he maintains momentum on the nearly 100-issue irregular series, and how he balances creator-owned work with projects for major publishers like DC and Marvel. We also dive deep into his latest collaboration, Good As Dead, a haunting story of crime, justice, death, and small-town secrets that was developed from a pitch originated by Monarch: Legacy of Monsters creator Chris Black and producer David Alpert. TCW Podcast Episode 237 - Jordan Mechner and Price of  Persia   We continue our look at Jordan Mechner with the development of Prince of Persia. Its cinematic inspirations include Castles of Dr. Creep, the opening of Raiders of the Lost Ark, and the 1938 Robin Hood. To animate the prince, Mechner filmed his brother performing stunts, then manually painted key frames, painting his brother white and the background black to make the footage compatible with a limited digitizer. Memory constraints forced creative solutions, like XORing the prince and bit shifting him to create Shadow Man. A promising film project delayed the game's release, but Prince of Persia launched on the Apple II with groundbreaking animation. Happy Spooky Wednesday, dear listeners! This week is a classic style haunting as Brittany tells us all about the West Virginia Penitentiary AKA the Moundsville Penitentiary. With just under 1,000 documented deaths in the prison's history, it is no surprise that some spirits still lurk here long after operations have stopped. It's now a tourist attraction, museum, training facility, and filming location - people have experienced all sorts of paranormal activity within its walls. You may encounter the Shadow Man, who is believed to be a former prisoner and is said to be able to disappear through walls. Or you could feel the icy cold breath of the faceless man on your neck as he approaches you. There are other classic haunting signs as well, such as apparitions, cold spots, and strange noises.
