(This podcast was previously published on August 21, 2021)   Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney  ...   Noah was a righteous man, so when God destroyed this present earth by waters covering the earth, God made a way to save the life of Noah and His generations.   God later raised up another righteous man:  Abram, renamed Abraham by God.   Genesis 12  (God speaks to Abram)   1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:   2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:   3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.   4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him;   Keeping the Word spoken by God before us is the only thing that matters.  As we do that, we follow God.  In the coming Podcasts and writings, we will focus on what God said.

Our chapter 57 in Isaiah commences with the above words – but then adds, “and no one lays it to heart; devout men are taken away … “  But then comes a very meaningful statement – which may well become really meaningful for us  in the years ahead, it may even be in the months ahead, “for the righteous man (& woman) is taken away from calamity; he enters into peace; they rest in their beds who walk in their uprightness”   Coming to v. 15, more words jump out to our minds, “… thus says the One who is high and lifted up. Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: ‘I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.” In contrast, the chapter ends, “But the wicked are like the tossing sea; for it cannot be quiet, and its waters toss up mire and dirt.  ‘There is no peace,' says my God, ‘for the wicked.”  It is “my God”, our God who counts us, as righteous in his eyes.  As we become more and more aware of the true picture of our present existence – and conscious of the increasing traumas in many parts of the world (and threatening or including ours) how wonderful it will be to be “taken away” – in whatever way God chooses, from the calamity that is starting to surround us.  If it should be that “the righteous man perishes” – it is God who “lays it to heart”, such move into God's time – which is instantaneous, there is no awareness of passing time at all. Today's 21st chapter of Revelation has a wondrous description of the ultimate time to come – when “the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God, He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”   Let us, from now on, live with this divinely given vision flooding ever more readily into our hearts every day.   

Send us Fan MailAs we dive further into Psalm 37, we see that God has much to say about the righteous man.  Despite what this life brings, a righteous man's needs are met; his household is taken care of and provided for.  He is also generous and giving and this is in stark contrast to evildoers and the wicked.  Finally, the steps of a righteous man are upheld by the Lord.  God is not going to allow him to stumble or stay down because He watches out for him.  A righteous man serves and obeys his God.  Therefore, God protects him and keeps his life.  Psalm 37 has many promises and this episode outlines several of them.  We can take heart.  God is with us.

We often feel the desire to be better than others, and this can cause us to feel happy when we see others stumble. But God's commandment is clear—everyone is made in the image of God, and we must not rejoice in the suffering of others. God requires us, as His children, to have His heart. The Lord calls us to change ourselves internally to become more righteous, but sometimes we get distracted from this inner change and seek external ways to improve ourselves. This distracts us from the true purpose of our lives. It is important to remember that what we do in the world is still connected to our internal change. Our outward actions affect the blessings that are allowed into our own homes. By controlling what we think and say about others and focusing on our own hearts, we can grow closer to the Heart of the Lord, who searches for souls to join Him.
