In the 851st episode of the PokerNews Podcast, which is sponsored by PokerStars, Chad Holloway and Kyna England are joined by "Loose Cannon" Lily Newhouse at Level 9 Studio in Las Vegas to talk about GGPoker purchasing the World Series of Poker (WSOP) brand for $500 million. What will it mean for the future of poker? It's too early to tell, but that doesn't stop the crew from offering their thoughts. From there, Newhouse talked about her experience as the Loose Cannon on the PokerStars Big Game, which included playing a big pot early against Sam Grafton and battling against Dave Krosky, who proved to be a different sort of loose cannon! Oh, and did we mention the PokerStars Big Game is confirmed to return this Fall during the NAPT for a second season? Well, it is and you can get all the details here. Kyna then talks about attending the grand opening of the brand-new Venetian Poker Room, now the largest room on the Strip, and you get to hear from other attendees including Joey Ingram, Maria Konnikova, and 2017 WSOP Main Event champ Scott Blumstein. Plus, rapper Nelly was in the house to play the room's first hand, but you'll have to watch to see how he did. Additionally, hear about poker reporter Terrance "TJ" Reid winning the Destination: RunGood $2,500 Million Dollar Main Event for $192,755, Nick Kocman capturing a career-best score at Maryland State Poker Championship, and Daniel Bellis winning a NAPT Gold Pass in last longer contest. Speaking of which, you'll have a chance to qualify for NAPT Las Vegas at the upcoming Pennsylvania State Poker Championship. Finally, learn about one Texas poker room's quest to appeal to the female demographic with a women-first concept, hear about Chad's experience competing on Survivor Angelica: Medieval Mayhem, and get a sneak peek at the new Life Outside Poker featuring Brazilian Vlogger Romulo "Poker Profit" Dorea. On this episode of The Rake, special guest Scott Blumstein talks us through a would-be punt that actually ended in his favour during his famous winning Main Event run at the 2017 WSOP. Plus, Marle discusses a recent trip to LA, and whether or not the city is a good home for poker pros.
Scott Blumstein had a magical run through the 2017 World Series of Poker main event, topping a field of 7,221 to earn his first gold bracelet and the $8.15 million first-place prize. The win, however, came just a year after the Morristown, New Jersey native considered quitting the game entirely. While the 2016 WSOP main event was playing out in Las Vegas, Blumstein was back home in New Jersey, considering his options. After a conversation with his dad, he ultimately decided to give it one last shot at the Borgata Summer Poker Open. Blumstein won the opening event for just shy of $200,000, and that score kept him in the game. By the time the next summer rolled around, Blumstein was ready for the $10,000 main event. After building up his stack during the bubble, Blumstein rode his chip lead to the final table, which included players such as Ben Lamb, Jack Sinclair, Bryan Piccioli, Antoine Saout, Benjamin Pollak, and the headline-grabbing Englishman John Hesp. Now 27, and two years removed from his life-changing win, Blumstein remains relatively active in the poker world, and has lent his support to various charity causes and events. Highlights from this interview include the quality over quantity strategy, being better in pass protection, TurningStone Casino: an 18-year-old's Disneyland, accounting regret, the New Jersey cheat code, getting knocked out by Darvin Moon, why the story gets good at Borgata, a tough conversation with dad, learning the lesson of taxes, finding a backer, streaming on Twitch to 18 people, punishing the money bubble, hiring a mental coach, turning down a world-class player for final table help, helpful tips from Ryan Riess, having the freedom to not know what he wants to do, not relying on poker for happiness, lessons from an actuary, a scandal at Dick's Sporting Goods, the sharp side of Utah St., a love for rotisserie chicken, and a message from Mac Miller.

In episode 307 of the Top Pair Home Game Poker Podcast, Bruce Briggs and Robbie Strazynski interview 2017 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion Scott Blumstein. Beyond the bracelet bling, and far more importantly, Scott is just a wonderful, down-to-earth, nice guy whose journey and attitude towards life is one that poker fans can certainly be inspired by. In “home game news,” Bruce and Robbie managed to eke out little wins at the felt over the past couple weeks, plus the response to the previous episode (#306) has been splendid, with many Top Pair fans sending in their fantasy home poker game lineups. Oh, and we’re sure you’ll chuckle at this week’s One Outer at the end of the episode, and perhaps even learn a valuable tip from it.
I am a huge poker enthusiast. I like poker much more than I am good at it. That is not true of this episode’s guest, American poker player Scott Blumstein. Blumstein graduated from Temple University with an accounting degree before becoming a professional poker player. Last summer, he entered his first World Series of Poker Main Event, along with over 7000 other hopeful players. Outlasting everyone in a week plus of poker play, Scott Blumstein won the World Series of Poker Main Event, a coveted WSOP bracelet and $8,150,000. He won in dramatic fashion when the Deuce of Hearts landed on the river (which for you non-poker players was one of only 3 cards that could have won him the event). In this episode we explore Scott’s story and his views of higher education and how he went from online player to a poker World Champ. Not surprisingly his favorite card in the deck is now the 2 of Hearts. Scott Blumstein became a millionaire and household poker name overnight when he took down the 2017 WSOP Main Event for $8,150,000, and today he's on Heads Up with Remko to talk all about his life-changing win. Blumstein talked about all the big hands at the final table that brought him fame and fortune, going over the big bluff versus Dan Ott, the massive pot against John Hesp and the easily forgotten big call he made against Jack Sinclair on the final table bubble. The youngster from New Jersey also touched upon how life changing this money and poker fame might be, but that in the end of the day he'll maintain to be a "professional liver". If you've missed any of Blumstein's big hands, go to PokerGO right now and relive every day of the Main Event up until the final table. The Main Event final table replays on PokerGO are available for customers in non-ESPN affiliated regions only. Blackouts apply. Merv has touched down in Sydney, jet-lagged, sleep-deprived and hungover from the WSOP parties, yet Episode 40 must be hosted and Captain Harvey does not disappoint. The theme is live tells and who better to join us than the top tycoon of teaching tells, Zachary Elwood. Together, we take on a triple-barrel poser and reveal a tell from the Main Event champion himself, Scott Blumstein, in a final table hand.

For past episodes of the Mindset Advantage Podcast visit: https://www.pokermindcoach.com/tmapodcast/ In This Week's Episode: Before Scott Blumstein sat down for Day 1C of the WSOP Main Event, he had never entered a tournament over $3,500. On Day 4 he finished 8th in chips. After 7 grueling days, he entered the final table as the chip leader with 97,250,000 chips... And in hand #246 of the final table, he 3-bet shoved Ah2d and was called by Dan Ott's Ad8s. The board ran out Js6s5h7h, and just as it looked like Ott would double, the 2h landed on the river, giving Scott Blumstein the WSOP Main Event tilt and $8,150,000. During the two day break between the end of Day 7 and the start of the final table, Scott brought in Elliot Roe to mentally prepare him for the biggest 3 days of his poker career, saying: “Honestly, with the 48-hours I thought the mental game was more important than any technical stuff I could learn at that juncture.” In this Episode of The Mindset Advantage podcast, Scott Blumstein joins Elliot Roe and Adrienne “Talonchick” Rowsome to talk about winning the most prestigious tournament in poker. In This Episode You'll Learn: How a mental blow up on Day 7 nearly cost Scott the entire tournament. Why he chose to prioritize working on his mental game over his technical game during the 48-hour break before the final table. What motivated Scott to win (even more than the $8,150,00 first place prize). How Scott went from a “Mental Game Fish”, who preached that there was no skill in poker to WSOP Main Event Champion. Exactly what it felt like when the 2h fell on river, giving Scott the win and the $8,150,000 first prize. What's next for the 2017 WSOP Main Event Champ. The World Series of Poker Main Event is down to just 85 players, and we spoke to no less than seven players still in the event. Charlie Carrel headlined the PokerGO stream, and we spoke to him about the joy of going deep in the Main Event. Unfortunately, shortly after recording the podcast, Carrel was eliminated in 88th place cashing for $72,514. Just two more players hit the rail before the night ended, and the following players that joined us on the podcast bagged up chips. Scott Blumstein 6,845,000 Bryan Piccioli 5,400,000 Dario Sammartino - 2,858,000 Marcel Luske 2,290,000 Martin Finger 890,000 Blumstein, playing in this first WSOP Main Event, had a tough day with Ben Lamb on his left for most of it, but in the end, he bagged up a top stack. Piccioli started the 2016 Main Event on Day 5 with the chip lead, and this year he flew under the radar a bit more and managed to bag up a big stack after Day 5. With 85 players remaining he's only one spot removed from improving on last year's finish. Sammartino battled all day with Kenny Hallaert, and both players managed to make it through the day. Luske had a day filled with swing, ultimately securing himself the third best Main Event finish after finishing 14th in 2003 and 10th in the 2004 Main Event. Last but not least, EPT champ Martin Finger bagged up a very short stack but he's still not out of it heading into Day 6. Tomorrow the action will play down to just 27 players, and a lot of that action will be live on PokerGO. The action starts on ESPN at 11:00 am PT/2:00 pm ET and switches over to PokerGO at 3:00pm PT/6:00pm ET/midnight CET.
