Kevin Moran, a famous figure from United's past, joined Helen Evans and David May to discuss his career on our latest UTD Podcast. The Irish centre-back was with May at Blackburn Rovers late in his career but only after starting two FA Cup finals with United in the 1980s, as we lifted the cup by beating Brighton & Hove Albion and Everton. Unfortunately, Kevin was the first man ever to be sent off in the showpiece event, for a foul on Everton's Peter Reid in 1985. Ron Atkinson's 10 men still won, thanks to Norman Whiteside's iconic goal, and, of course, Moran recalls that day and answers the question of whether he ever received his medal.Growing up, he played hurling and Gaelic football in his homeland, which could have derailed his United career before it had started, as he would secretly play in some high-profile games in the Republic of Ireland, without the club's knowledge! He even reveals he turned the Reds down when they first came calling!A late starter, he only got into football at 14, his commitment and bravery would become legendary with United's gamble on him paying off. Atkinson replacing Dave Sexton at the helm made a difference in terms of his fight for a first-team place, but his time at Old Trafford came to an end after Sir Alex Ferguson's arrival, which he discusses in detail as the Scot tried to rid the club of its drinking culture.A move to Sporting Gijon in Spain showed his sense of adventure and he would remain a stalwart for Republic of Ireland, being part of Jack Charlton's famous 1990 World Cup side and even making the squad four years later, as he ended up on 71 caps.Kevin tells us more about his interesting career path after retirement and is still a season ticket-holder at Old Trafford. This your chance to hear his story in full! The best place to catch up on the back-catalogue of our interviews is over on the Manchester United App, where you can listen to - and watch - all of our episodes in full, for free.

This is an audio version of our YouTube video. We're back for another Odds On: La Liga show, and this time it's a preview of Matchday 8. There's some fascinating, intriguing, compelling and engaging storylines and narratives wherever you look across the division and it all kick-starts on Friday night. Eibar host everyone's second-team Cadiz in the Basque Country. Real Madrid is the early kick-off on Saturday. Los Blancos welcome winless Huesca to the Spanish capital, a side whose last away win came in July against Sporting Gijon. For the defending champions, Real, it's been an up-and-down beginning to their campaign. Zizou's men lost back-to-back games to Cadiz and Shakhtar, before winning in El Clasico, and then drawing 2-2 with Gladbach in the Champions League. It feels like Zidane's constantly on the brink of chaos, but somehow manages to keep the cart from toppling over the cliff. Elsewhere among clubs expected to challenge for the title, Atletico Madrid travel to Pamplona to play Osasuna; a club celebrated by one of Spain's most passionate fan bases. Diego Simeone's men are the only unbeaten team remaining in the Primera Division, having won three of their five La Liga fixtures so far. Typical Rojiblancos, they've only conceded one goal since the restart, and they're one of only two clubs to have double figures for goals scored. Finally, we come to Barcelona. Eesh. Ronald Koeman's Blaugrana currently sit 12th in La Liga, having been beaten in their last two games to Real Madrid and Getafe. It's all gone a bit wrong for Barca in the last couple of months, and this week hasn't exactly been smooth sailing either. Club president Josep Bartemou stepped down from his position. But he didn't exactly go quietly; dropping the bombshell of Barca's interest in a European Super League. This weekend, Barca are away to Alaves in a game they simply must win to return their season to some sort of normality. Our regular host Eduardo Siles is joined by Spanish football expert Alvaro Romeo to discuss all things Spanish football, as our Xavi and Iniesta look analyse, preview and dissect La Liga's Matchday 8 action. Episode 14 of Bombazo is here and we have a huge amount to cover across both the international matches and forthcoming LaLiga games:– Martin Braithwaite bags two goals in two games including the strike that seals Denmark's place at Euro 2020. We reckon he would get 20 a season for a better LaLiga side.– The Robert Moreno-Luis Enrique Spain coaching drama unpacked, and why it reminds us of Pep Guardiola and Tito Vilanova's split from back in the day. Has Pep ever really been as good since?– We look at Alexander Isak's admirably cold-headed reaction to racist abuse in Romania, plus fellow Swede and LaLiga forward John Guidetti getting a great goal that reminds us all of what he's capable of.– The Bombazo team reckons Norway and Martin Ødegaard are heading to Euro 2020 (sorry Scotland and Serbia), but are his Real Sociedad the toughest test Real Madrid have faced all season?– Alex reports from Spain's most underrated, and arguably most heated derby, Real Oviedo v Sporting Gijon. And what an experience it was.– Plus we praise fellow professional troll Gareth Bale, and look ahead to more LaLiga fixtures. Don't forget to follow the pod here, plus Lee and Alex at their personal accounts. And please, please leave a rating, review or comment. It helps a huge amount. Thanks for listening!
Former Celta Vigo midfielder Alex Lopez has signed for Brisbane Roar, subject to completing a medical. Most recently on the books of Sporting Gijon, the 30-year-old joins John Aloisi's side after a long and successful career in Spain. Lopez spent a significant portion of his career at La Liga side Celta Vigo but recently enjoyed loan stints at second-tier side Real Valladolid and English Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday. With Australian football governance’s D-Day imminent, the Football Federation Australia (FFA) Board on Friday evening once again outlined its position, releasing an information statement sent to member federations to the public. Australia are through to the quarter-finals of the AFC Under-16 Championship after defeating Afghanistan 4-0 in the final match of Group D in Malaysia. The Joeys will face Indonesia in the last eight on Monday night. Should they win that match they will not only be through to the semi-finals but also qualify for the U17 FIFA World Cup.
