RMA-Episode 107 Show Notes: RMA-Episode 107: To Live and Die in LA-This week Mike and Nat review the recovery memoirs The Los Angeles Diaries and This River by author James Brown. Plagued by the suicides of both his siblings, and heir to alcohol and drug abuse, divorce, and economic ruin, James Brown lived a life clouded by addiction, broken promises, and despair. In the first two books of his recovery trilogy, he reveals his struggle for survival, mining his past to present the inspiring story of his redemption. Also, Mike talks about his trip to Savannah, and Nat explains what he does when his wife goes out of town. But wait, THERE'S MORE! Bigfoot returns to the Week in Weird and RITN looks at toilet paper eating and how the opioid settlement may have the effect of making ADHD and anxiety drugs harder to get. We are in the process of reviewing 250 "lost tracks" that you "must" hear but in the meantime, listen to your hosts talk about even better music - which you can find on our associated playlist on Spotify. NOTE: I made two mistakes. JJ Grey's song was on This River, not Georgia Warhorse. Molly Tuttle's song was not Dandelion, it is She's A Rainbow. Sorry. Remember to like/subscribe!!! What a fun topic right? I actually appreciate the River of Misery because of what it represents. This River of Misery is something I encourage everyone to get in. This River signifies growth. It means you're moving someplace different. For many, if they don't understand it, they can think struggling is wrong- or that they're not making progress. Let's understand the River of Misery and how to be more accepting of the process. Show Notes

During the second session of the School of Happy Evangelism, the Holy Spirit broke out in an unexpectedly intense way. I began to speak spontaneously on the nature of the Holy Spirit. He is described all throughout scripture as a River. This River is always moving, and always bringing Life into death. When we become consumers focused on survival, we hinder the flow of the Holy Spirit. Our encounters with God are meant to turn US into an encounter for the world around us. However, when we learn to breathe him in and breathe him out, we begin to disover what we were truly made for. To support House of Bliss, sign up to be a patron here: Patreon Music By Glowing Moses
On this episode, Mike Luke and I sit near the Angelina River to discuss the ins and outs of the Devils River. We dive into the hazards, necessary gear, and fishing tactics that make for rewarding adventure. The Devils River is a spring fed oasis located in Trans Pecos region of Texas and home to a large and spectacular waterfall that only adds to its beauty. The remoteness and an incredible fishery are all highlighted by its pristine water where you can enjoy this River by camping in the state natural area or take 7 day paddle expedition down more than 47 miles of breathtaking water. This River is special to us and many others and it is important that we all protect our access through conservation and respect. I hope you find this info helpful throughout your planning stages.

JJ GREY & MOFRO bring a grimy blend of front porch soul and down-home storytelling to the WoodSongs stage. Over the course of six albums and a decade of touring, he and his band Mofro have sewn a continuous thread of laying-it-on-the-line shows that move folks to dance and at times to tears. Many of Greys songs reflect his love for the North Florida wilderness in which he grew up. JJ's sixth studio album, 'This River'on Alligator Records was named for the St. John's River -- a centering point for his childhood near Jacksonville, Florida and features some of his strongest songwriting to date. SLADE WARNKEN is only 15 but has incredible bluesy voice. Listen as Slade brings down the house with his version of Otis Reddings "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay".
JJ Grey and Mofro have a very distinctive sound that has attracted fans across many genres of music. With the release of "This River" this Spring, JJ is continuing to take his music around the world, blending front porch soul and down-home storytelling. We had a chance to visit with him in one of his favorite places of all time, which may really surprise you.
