She does so selflessly and with a joy that is infectious, but there was a period of time in her history when there was not joy, but stress and sorrow. Dr. Judy served as a first responder and worked the outer rim of "the pit during the cleanup of 9/11. She then went on to treat both the adults and children who survived that terrible event. On today's show, we discuss multiple topics with Dr. Judy! Everything from her participation in the 25th anniversary commemoration ceremonies in New York City to that horrifying period after 9/11. We also discuss how to deal with trauma you may be having from reliving this event at home, and we talk about not just the victims' families' trauma, but also what happens to them when THEIR trauma keeps getting dug back up by the media. Actor on a Fatal Helicopter Crash: How His Life Changed. He escaped the doomed aircraft moments before takeoff. What happened next triggered years of depression and inspired the question that rebuilt his life. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast social media like their Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn , Medium and other social media platforms. Kurek Ashley was living the life many aspiring performers only dream about. The Podcast is available for free on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast website, also on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, iHeartradio and most major podcast platforms. #LawEnforcementTalk #Free #Podcast #Radio The retired actor now living in Australia was working in the Philippines on Delta Force 2: The Colombian Connection, an action movie starring Chuck Norris. He was surrounded by friends, building a Hollywood career and looking toward a promising future. Supporting articles about this and much more from Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast in platforms like Medium , Blogspot and Linkedin. Then, on May 16, 1989, everything changed. Ashley had recently stepped out of a helicopter being used during filming. The aircraft took off without him to perform a low-level aerial maneuver, but it never completed the mission. The helicopter suddenly veered, plunged into a ravine and burst into flames. Four people died in the immediate aftermath. A fifth member of the production later died from his injuries. Ashley escaped the aircraft without a physical injury, but he could not escape what happened next. His close friend, key grip Mike Graham, died in his arms while being transported to the hospital. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast, is available on Apple, Spotify, YouTube, and other major podcast platforms. The interview is also featured across Facebook and Instagram. For Ashley, surviving was only the beginning. A Hollywood Movie Set Became the Scene of a Tragedy The fatal helicopter crash happened near Tagaytay in the Philippines during production of the Chuck Norris film. Actor on a Fatal Helicopter Crash: How His Life Changed. The aircraft was carrying eight people when it went down near a large unfinished mansion. The helicopter fell approximately 40 feet into a ravine before erupting in flames. The crash initially claimed four lives: key grip Mike Graham, gaffer Don Marshall, cinematographer Gadi Danzig and Filipino pilot Jojo Imperial. Actor and stunt performer Geoff Brewer later died from his injuries, bringing the final death toll to five. Contemporary reports confirmed the four initial deaths, while the film's production history records Brewer's later death. Three other people aboard the helicopter survived with serious injuries. Chuck Norris was not on the aircraft. Ashley had been on the helicopter shortly before it departed. That one decision, to step out before takeoff, separated him from the friends and colleagues who were carried into the ravine. The episode is available across major platforms including their website, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, with highlights shared across their Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn profiles. It was the type of moment that can divide a life into two distinct parts: everything before the crash and everything after it. He Survived Without Physical Injuries, but the Trauma Followed Him Ashley walked away physically unharmed, but the emotional and psychological consequences were devastating. The former Hollywood actor struggled with severe depression for approximately two years. He had witnessed the sudden deaths of people he knew and loved. One of his closest friends had died in his arms. The questions that follow a traumatic survival can be relentless. Why did he get out of the helicopter? Why did he survive when others did not? What was he supposed to do with the life he had been given? Those questions could not be answered by another movie role or another achievement. The success he had once pursued no longer held the same meaning. Actor on a Fatal Helicopter Crash: How His Life Changed. The Podcast is available for free on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast website, also on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, iHeartradio and most major podcast platforms. The crash had taken five lives. It had also shattered Ashley's understanding of his own life and forced him to search for a new purpose. From Actor to Author and Speaker Ashley eventually experienced what he describes as a personal transformation rooted in love. Instead of allowing the tragedy to define the rest of his life, he began rebuilding from the inside. His pain became part of a larger mission: helping other people change the thoughts, emotions and decisions shaping their lives. The Actor On A Fatal Helicopter Crash, How His Life Changed story eventually became inseparable from Ashley's work as an author and speaker. He went on to write the book "How Would Love Respond?", presenting a spiritual toolkit for directing the thought patterns that influence success, failure, relationships and personal fulfillment. At the center of the book is one powerful question: “How would love respond?” For Ashley, those four words are more than the title of a book. They represent a way to interrupt fear, anger and despair before making a decision. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast continues bringing listeners real conversations from the front lines of crime, policing, trauma, survival, and healing. The question asks people to pause and consider whether their next response will be driven by pain, or by the person they want to become. The Question That Changed His Decisions Ashley's transformation did not erase the helicopter crash or bring back the friends who died. It changed what he did with the pain. His message is that people may not control every tragedy that enters their lives, but they can work to control what that tragedy creates within them. Actor on a Fatal Helicopter Crash: How His Life Changed. Supporting articles about this and much more from Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast in platforms like Medium, Blogspot and Linkedin. That belief became the foundation of his work as a speaker and personal-development leader. He has shared his message with audiences around the world, encouraging people to examine how their thoughts produce the emotions and actions shaping their lives. His mission grew from one of the darkest days imaginable. It is a reminder that survival alone is not always the end of a traumatic event. Survivors may carry guilt, grief, depression and unanswered questions long after their visible injuries have healed, or even when there were no visible injuries at all. A Career That Included Recognizable Hollywood Films Before devoting his life to writing, speaking and personal transformation, Ashley worked as an actor in Hollywood productions. His credits included appearances connected with titles such as Airheads, Maniac Cop 2 and Delta Force 2: The Colombian Connection, along with other movie and television projects. Yet his most important role may have begun after he stepped away from Hollywood. The survivor became an author. The actor became a speaker. The man overwhelmed by depression began helping other people confront their own pain and reclaim their lives. Listen to this powerful episode of the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast as Kurek Ashley discusses the fatal crash, nearly dying afterwards and finding the higher purpose that ultimately changed his life. He discusses the day a movie set became the scene of a fatal helicopter crash, the death of his friend, the depression that followed and the transformation that gave his survival a new meaning. This is not simply a story about an actor or a Hollywood accident. It is a story about trauma, survivor's guilt, purpose and the decision to build a new life after the old one has been destroyed. Ashley also explains the message behind his Book, How Would Love Respond?, and how one question can change the direction of a decision, and possibly an entire life. From Tragedy to a Mission Built on Love Five people ultimately died because of the helicopter crash connected to Delta Force 2. Ashley survived because he had exited the aircraft shortly before its final flight. The physical escape took only moments. The emotional escape took years. His journey from Hollywood actor to bestselling author and international Speaker shows that surviving tragedy and healing from it are not the same thing. Healing required Ashley to confront his depression, reconsider the meaning of his life and transform unbearable loss into a mission focused on helping others. Director Michael Gier talks about his new movie "The Heroism and Resiliency of 9/11: From Tragedy to Triumph" for the 25th commemoration of the attacks on September 11th, narrated by Gary Sinise. Michael's documentary tells a different kind of 9/11 story -- one that honors the tragedy of the day by focusing on the inspiring human response that followed. Michael shares unknown stories of the first responders, survivors, families, public servants, and everyday Americans whose courage created hope in the aftermath of the attacks, including the remarkable, unplanned boatlift of over 500,000 people from southern Manhattan.Heroes Behind HeadlinesExecutive Producer Ralph PezzulloProduced & Engineered by Mike DawsonMusic provided by ExtremeMusic.com
Nearly 25 years later, there are still stories from September 11th that many Americans have never heard. Award-winning director and producer Michael Gier set out to tell those stories in his documentary, The Heroism and Resiliency of 9/11: From Tragedy to Triumph. Rather than focusing solely on the devastation of that day, Michael turns the lens toward the extraordinary courage, compassion, and resilience that emerged in the middle of it. Michael joins host Chuck Thuss to share some of the lesser-known stories featured in the film, from previously homeless men helping injured Wall Street workers to the massive boatlift that evacuated more than 500,000 people from Manhattan. He also recounts the bravery of rescuers who refused to leave fellow first responders buried beneath the rubble, even when their own lives were at risk. But this conversation isn't only about looking back. Chuck and Michael explore what September 11th can still teach us about moving through tragedy, showing up for one another, and making a difference in the lives of the people around us. You may never face a moment that makes history, but you still have the opportunity to be there for someone who needs you. Guest Bio Michael Gier is an award-winning director and producer who has directed and produced hundreds of projects, including TV commercials, internet videos, corporate videos, short films, feature films, and documentaries through Gier Productions, LLC. In 2021, Michael released two award-winning films, Wounded Heroes and Healing the Heroes of 9-11. His latest documentary, The Heroism and Resiliency of 9/11: From Tragedy to Triumph, shares powerful and lesser-known stories of courage, heroism, and resilience surrounding September 11th. The film has already received multiple Best Documentary awards at film festivals, which Michael discusses in the episode. You'll hear About Why Michael chose to tell a different side of the 9/11 story Lesser-known acts of courage and compassion that emerged from the tragedy The incredible rescue of more than 500,000 people from Manhattan by boat What survivors and first responders taught Michael about resilience How small acts of service can make an enormous difference in someone's life Chapters 00:00 Welcome and Introduction 01:45 Creating The Heroism and Resiliency of 9/11 04:15 Finding Hope and Strength Within Tragedy 08:15 The Unsung Heroes and Stories Most People Never Heard 12:45 Extraordinary Acts of Service on September 11th 16:15 The Boatlift, Flight 93, and Stories of Courage 19:00 What Michael Learned About Heroism 22:15 The Lasting Impact on Survivors and First Responders 26:15 Remembering How America Came Together 29:15 Why Small Acts of Kindness Still Matter 31:15 Where to Watch the Documentary 32:30 What 9/11 Teaches Us About the Human Spirit 35:30 Chuck's Challenge Chuck's Challenge This week, Chuck challenges himself, and all of us, to find one or two ways each day to make a positive impact on someone else's life. It doesn't have to be a grand gesture. Open a door. Help someone who is struggling. Give something you have to someone who needs it. Reach out. Show kindness. Actor Gary Sinise narrates the powerful documentary, "The Heroism and Resiliency of 9/11: From Tragedy to Triumph," and today we speak with the director/producer of the film, Michael Gier, who says his documentary focuses on some of the uplifting stories that rose from the ashes of 9/11, attempting to bring hope to thousands who have been affected by this great American tragedy. This year is the 25th anniversary of 9/11, and the film highlights the bravery of first responders, survivors, and everyday citizens who spring into action on September 11th and the days and weeks that followed. The film focuses on the World Trade Center and Pentagon response, in addition to the bravery of the passengers on Flight 93. It is produced in association with SoldierStrong and The 9/11 Legacy Foundation, and will stream on Amazon Prime and Apple TV starting August 21. It's an important part of our history, told from the perspective of hope. Please find my full interview with #MichaelGier on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE. When Ashley Parent first appeared on Machine Shop Mastery, Mills Machine Works was fighting for survival. After the unexpected loss of her father, who founded the company in 1995, Ashley and her siblings inherited not only a family business but also the challenge of keeping it alive. Almost overnight, the shop lost roughly half of its revenue as customers questioned whether the next generation could continue the highly specialized work that had defined the company for decades. What followed was a crash course in entrepreneurship, sales, finance, and leadership. Ashley had to learn how to generate new business, understand the numbers behind profitability, and reposition the company for a different market. Through relentless outreach, honest storytelling, and a willingness to ask for help, she slowly rebuilt customer confidence and created a path forward when the future seemed anything but certain. Then an unexpected opportunity arrived. A local shop owner who had followed Ashley's journey reached out about finding a home for his employees. What started as a simple conversation quickly evolved into the acquisition of an entire machine shop. The move expanded Mills Machine Works' capabilities, added new customers and employees, and accelerated the company's growth trajectory in a way Ashley never could have predicted. In this inspiring follow-up conversation, Ashley shares the realities of rebuilding a business after tragedy, navigating financial challenges, integrating an acquisition, and leading a growing team through change. She also offers hard-earned lessons on pricing, profitability, relationships, and why asking for help may be one of the most powerful business strategies a shop owner can embrace. The result is a remarkable turnaround story. From staring at empty spindles and uncertain prospects to pursuing a $3 million growth vision, Ashley's journey is a powerful reminder that resilience, adaptability, and community can transform even the toughest circumstances into opportunity. We are blessed to welcome Jessica Taylor to Episode 241 of World Awakenings — a powerful story of traumatic brain injury recovery, spiritual awakening, resilience, and the healing power of the mind. At just 31 years old, Jessica's life changed in an instant after a devastating fall down a staircase left her with a severe brain injury and total memory loss. Forced to relearn how to think, process, and live independently, she faced what doctors suggested could be a 16–20 year recovery — largely on her own. But instead of surrendering to tragedy, Jessica transformed her suffering into a profound spiritual journey of self-discovery and higher consciousness. Over the next two decades, she immersed herself in theology, ancient wisdom traditions, cross-cultural spirituality, and metaphysical teachings. Her deep research and lived experience led her to groundbreaking insights into reincarnation, universal consciousness, the interconnectedness of all life, and humanity's sacred bond with nature. Her extraordinary transformation is captured in two powerful books:"From Tragedy to Triumph: Reawakening My Broken Brain" — A memoir of survival, perseverance, and neuroplasticity — and "A Spiritual Awakening: A Search for Hidden Jewels", a profound exploration of spiritual truth and inner transformation. From Tragedy to Triumph: Ellie Wyse's Journey of Hope and Healing When Ellie Wyse arrived at Cedarville University as a freshman, she carried more than just the typical college nerves. She brought with her the deep wounds of trauma — wounds inflicted on May 7, 2019, when her high school in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, was attacked by an active shooter. That day changed everything. A classmate lost his life, others were injured, and Ellie, just a freshman at the time, was left to navigate the emotional and spiritual aftermath of surviving something unimaginable. On the Cedarville Stories podcast, Ellie bravely shared her journey. She recounted the fear and confusion of that lockdown, the painful realization that one of the shooters had been a friend, and the long, winding road of healing that followed. Her struggles with anxiety and depression were real and raw, compounded by the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic. But through biblical counseling, the support of her family and church, and eventually, the nurturing environment at Cedarville, Ellie found hope again. Now a senior majoring in psychology, Ellie is preparing to graduate in May. Her time at Cedarville has strengthened her academically and spiritually, helping her reconcile with God and rediscover His faithfulness. Ellie's passion is clear: She wants to help teens and children walk through trauma with the care and compassion she once needed. Whether the next step is a doctoral or master's program, her goal remains the same — to be a counselor who listens first, leads with empathy, and gently points others toward healing, forgiveness, and hope. Nicole Stott had a remarkable career with NASA, logging more than 100 days in outer space. Her time on the International Space Station drives her appreciation for the importance of cooperation across cultures and national boundaries. On this Blue Sky episode, she describes lessons learned from her time as an astronaut, and the inspiring work she does today through the Space For Art Foundation, and her optimistic and solutions-oriented approach to life. Chapters: 00:00 Introduction to Nicole Stott This chapter introduces Nicole Stott, a retired NASA astronaut, aquanaut, engineer, artist, and author. It highlights her unique experiences as one of fewer than 600 people to have flown in space, her inspiration from her father, and her journey into aeronautical engineering after a personal tragedy. 03:42 From Tragedy to Astronaut Nicole shares the profound impact of her father's tragic death in a plane crash on her career path, explaining how it fueled her desire to understand how things fly, leading to aeronautical engineering and eventually NASA. She also touches on her ‘aquanaut' experience, spending 18 days underwater as training for spaceflight. 12:07 The Power of Optimism in Space Nicole discusses the ‘here's how we can' approach essential for space travel, contrasting it with pessimism, and emphasizing the importance of teamwork in an international setting. She details her missions on the Space Shuttle and International Space Station, highlighting the global collaboration required for such complex endeavors. 19:18 Earth as Spaceship, Us as Crewmates Nicole reflects on the profound perspective gained from space, seeing Earth's thin atmosphere as a fragile ‘thin blue line' and the International Space Station's hull as a parallel. This realization fuels her belief that all humans are ‘crewmates' on ‘Spaceship Earth,' inspiring a collective mission to protect our planet. 27:01 Art, Space, and Healing Nicole shares her passion for art, which developed from a young age and continued during her space missions, where she created the first watercolor painting in space. This passion led her to establish the Space for Art Foundation, which uses space-themed art therapy to inspire and unite children in pediatric hospitals and refugee centers worldwide. 34:38 The Future of Space and Humanity Nicole discusses the current landscape of space exploration, including public-private partnerships with companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin, and the broader motivations behind these endeavors. She also highlights the ‘never underestimate the importance of bugs' principle, emphasizing that small individual actions can lead to significant planetary solutions. 45:12 Mars, The Moon, and Space Solar Power Nicole addresses the potential for space-based solar power, highlighting its significant cost but comparing it to other large global expenditures. She concludes by expressing her optimism about humans landing on Mars within the next 30-50 years, with the Moon serving as a crucial steppingstone for this ambitious journey.

Episode Description: Awakening the Healer Within – A Conversation with Cheryl Stelte In this extraordinary episode of the Stuck In My Mind Podcast, host Wize El Jefe sits down with visionary healer, author, and spiritual coach Cheryl Stelte for an inspiring journey into the world of holistic healing, self-empowerment, and awakening the healer within. Cheryl's unique blend of experience, wisdom, and authenticity radiates throughout the conversation, offering listeners practical tools, profound stories, and spiritual insights that speak to those seeking transformation, purpose, and a deeper connection to their authentic selves. From Tragedy to Transformation Cheryl opens up about the pivotal spiritual experience that changed her life—the day her deceased brother visited her in a profound moment of love and guidance on a beach in Western Canada. Through an impromptu kinesiology session, Cheryl encountered a “ball of white light” and received a clear message from her brother: to begin meditating as a way to connect with him and herself on a deeper level. This encounter set Cheryl on an unexpected spiritual path—one that would lead to discovering the life-changing power of meditation, breathwork, and inner healing. She candidly shares the struggle of being lost after such an event, navigating a world that thirty years ago was less receptive to meditation and spiritual exploration, and the perseverance that helped her sustain these practices over the decades. Navigating Darkness: Overcoming Depression with Spiritual Practice Delving into her personal journey through depression and moments of despair, Cheryl reveals how her spiritual practices, particularly meditation, became her medicine and lifeline. Through consistent meditation, she began to process years of emotional trauma and unexpressed pain—gradually moving from surviving to thriving, and ultimately exchanging antidepressants for transformative self-care. Cheryl's story underscores the importance of self-compassion, honoring our emotional wounds, and the power of spiritual practice in finding light through the darkest times. Azaria's Energy Healing: An Integration of Traditions Listeners are introduced to Cheryl's signature healing modality, Azaria's Energy Healing—a powerful synthesis of meditation, Sufi breathwork, shamanic practices, Reiki, and acupressure. Cheryl recounts her journey through various healing systems from around the globe, studying with masters and embracing techniques that focus on deep, root-level transformation. A unique aspect of her approach is her commitment to teaching others to heal themselves, fostering lasting empowerment. Cheryl shares stories of working with clients who experienced breakthroughs where “no one else could go as deep,” highlighting the profound nature of her work and her dedication to those truly ready for healing. Heart-Centered Shamanism: Journey Inward Cheryl introduces the concept of heart-centered shamanism—an approach that contrasts traditional shamanic practices. Instead of “leaving the body” for spiritual journeys, Cheryl teaches going inward: connecting with the heart, the soul, and the body's innate intelligence. Citing her experience reading chakras—where she identifies both the superpowers and the wounds within—Cheryl explains the transformative and protective power of remaining grounded in one's own body during healing work. Global Insights: Lessons from the Maasai and Samburu Drawing on her time living with the Maasai and Samburu tribes in Africa, Cheryl shares deeply moving observations about collective and individual experiences of love, survival, and the absence of emotional connection in some communities. She explains how the realization that love—and the ability to both give and receive it—is the foundation for abundance, healing, and true well-being. Cheryl's stories provide a rich, cross-cultural lens through which to understand spiritual connection and the universal longing for love. Becoming a Client Magnet: Energetics of Authenticity What does it mean to become a “client magnet”? Cheryl explains the energetic mechanics behind it: when you release internal blocks and align with your soul's purpose, you naturally radiate the energy that attracts those who are meant to work with you. The episode details practical cues and signs for noticing energetic blockages—like throat chakra issues manifesting as difficulties expressing one's truth, struggling to be heard, or fearing visibility—and how to recognize the genuine call to become a healer. Stuck in the Mind—Finding the Path Forward The conversation takes a beautifully vulnerable turn as Wize shares his own struggles with doubt and launching the podcast, resonating with listeners who've found themselves “stuck” and afraid to step into their unique greatness. Cheryl affirms that such fears often point to our biggest potential, echoing the importance of “getting out of the head and into the body.” The supportive banter between Cheryl and Wize illustrates the healing force of authentic connection and community. Integrating Spirituality and the Practical World Cheryl offers wisdom for those feeling spiritually awakened yet lost in the practical world, identifying key signs such as being ungrounded or experiencing the “dark night of the soul”—a developmental passage characterized by a profound sense of disconnection and surrender. She details how energy healing can help individuals release subconscious blocks rooted in childhood, without reliving trauma, and move into a place of true empowerment. Virtual Healing, Daily Rituals, and Cheryl's Vision Emphasizing the power and efficacy of virtual healing, Cheryl and Wize both reflect on their experiences with digital energy exchange, reinforcing the idea that true spiritual connection transcends physical proximity. Cheryl graciously shares her daily practices—decades of meditation, mindful walks, the Five Tibetan Rites, and yearly personal retreats—and stresses the importance of evolving rituals as one's journey unfolds. Cheryl's ultimate vision with the Star of Divine Light Institute is to help people recognize their authentic power, become empowered beyond belief, and awaken to their true selves as radiant beings of light. Resources, Books, and Continuing the Journey At the end of the episode, Cheryl highlights her three books: Heal Your Neck Issues and Let Your Throat Chakra Shine Client Magnet From Blocked to Powerful She invites listeners for chakra readings and to access free resources on her website: starofdivinelight.com, and encourages connecting with her on Instagram (@stelte.cheryl). Why You Should Listen This episode is a deep dive into the interplay between spirituality and real-world challenges, a blueprint for awakening the latent healer within, and a heartfelt reminder that even in our most “stuck” moments, transformation is possible. Whether you are on your own healing path, aspiring to work as a healer, or simply seeking inspiration to move past doubt and step into your purpose, this conversation promises to spark insight, hope, and renewed motivation. Tune in and join the Stuck In My Mind community for a conversation that might just awaken the healer—and the greatness—already inside you.
When Karen Lynch became CEO of CVS Health, it was more than a milestone, it was a signal. Millions were watching. She led through the pandemic. She raised wages. She centered the patient. She broke glass ceilings again and again. “I remember the day Karen became CEO,” says host Laurie McGraw. “I think the world stood still for a minute. I smiled. I took notice. And so did everyone else.” The accolades poured in: Forbes Most Powerful Women, Fortune's Most Admired. But the impact went far beyond headlines. This conversation isn't just about what Karen accomplished at the top—it's about the experiences that shaped her long before she got there, and the values driving how she leads today. Like many leaders, Karen's path was forged in her beginnings. For her, those beginnings were marked by unimaginable loss: losing her mother to suicide at age 12, and just a decade later, losing the aunt who raised her. That grief left an indelible mark—a sense of urgency to fix a healthcare system she had experienced not as a leader, but as someone failed by it. That lived experience has been her North Star. From her early days in finance to leading one of the largest healthcare organizations in the world, Karen has consistently asked: What does the patient need? And how can we make it simpler? As a leader, she learned that courage isn't a talking point, it's a practice. And sometimes, it means making a hard decision that costs you. When her tenure at CVS ended, it wasn't scandal. It wasn't a failure. It was a choice, grounded in accountability. Because real leadership isn't just about celebrating the wins—it's about owning the moments that hurt. Now in a chapter of reinvention, Karen is clear: she's not stepping back, she's stepping into purpose. From helping future CEOs find their voice, to launching a women's leadership institute, to urging healthcare leaders to rebuild public trust before it's too late, she is focused on impact over position. The title may be different. The mission is not. In this episode of Inspiring Women with Laurie McGraw, Karen also speaks about: What would healthcare look like if we designed it around the patient? Can simplicity heal what complexity has broken? How do we rebuild public trust in healthcare—and what happens if we don't? How can we better prepare the next generation of women leaders? Is technology the single most powerful lever for healthcare transformation? What does it take to navigate reinvention with optimism, purpose, and grace? Thank you Karen Lynch. In this episode of the Tick Boot Camp Podcast, host Matt Sabatello and special guest co-host Khalil Fuller sit down with Alan Bergo, a James Beard Award-winning chef, professional forager, and author, to discuss his personal battle with Lyme disease. Alan shares how his love for wild food shaped his culinary career, the hardships he faced after contracting Lyme, and how he found healing through foraging and alternative therapies. His story is one of resilience, transformation, and the powerful connection between nature and wellness. Key Takeaways: Alan's Culinary and Foraging Journey: Growing up in Minnesota, Alan worked his way up in the culinary world, eventually becoming an executive chef and a renowned expert in wild food. The Moment Lyme Changed Everything: While leading foraging tours, Alan unknowingly contracted Lyme disease, which led to a cascade of debilitating symptoms, including Bell's palsy, cluster headaches, and extreme sensitivity to light and sound. Struggles with Diagnosis and Treatment: Despite recognizing his symptoms early, Alan faced challenges in getting proper medical care, receiving only a short round of doxycycline. The Aftermath of Lyme: Chronic neurological issues forced Alan to reevaluate his career, leading him to explore alternative treatments and lifestyle changes, including foraging as a form of therapy. The Role of Alternative Medicine: Alan discusses how eliminating gluten and alcohol, along with the use of psilocybin, helped him manage his chronic headaches. Advice for Lyme Warriors and Nature Enthusiasts: Alan emphasizes the importance of early Lyme detection, tick prevention (such as permethrin-treated clothing), and seeking community support. From Tragedy to Triumph: After Lyme forced him to step away from the restaurant industry, Alan channeled his passion into writing, public speaking, and hosting The Wild Harvest Show, which earned him two Taste Awards and a James Beard Award. Why You Should Listen: If you're interested in Lyme disease recovery, the healing power of wild food, or how nature can transform one's life, Alan's story is both inspiring and educational. Whether you're battling Lyme, curious about foraging, or seeking motivation to overcome challenges, this episode is packed with insights that will resonate deeply.
