Transition Episode

Wiggle Room

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 28, 2024 7:20

I am changing the name of the podcast. This episode shares the changes and my thinking of why I'm doing so. Please listen to hear the details. Transcript Thank you for joining me on this special transition episode. You can say, this is really more of an announcement kind of episode. Um, but the reason I'm doing this is because I am. Planning to change the name of this podcast. Um, so far for all of these episodes. It has been called a wiggle room, um, which is all about. Finding that little bit of space inside of us, that's always there that you can always access. And the process for finding that of course is the work of Byron Katie. I'm going to be changing that name to. Uh, the new name is going to be stress management for highly sensitive people. And the reason I'm changing it is that I want to make this podcast. Uh, accessible. Understandable. Uh, for anyone, even if they've never heard of the work. Um, and especially for highly sensitive people. I've found as I've been looking, uh, at my clients and participants. And also myself that the common theme throughout all of my participants and all of my clients are almost all. Is this trait of being a highly sensitive person. Uh, this doesn't mean that, uh, you know, highly sensitive people is something that's been studied. It's a personality trait. It's nothing wrong. Uh, about 20% of the world's population. Uh, is highly sensitive person. And. The reason I'm focusing in on that is because, uh, it is something that resonates to me, something that's dear to my heart and something that I'm especially attuned to being able to support. So. Um, I find that when I work with highly sensitive people, they tend to be drawn to me in first place. But when I work with them, there's a natural resonance and there's an understanding and the issues that highly sensitive people tend to, uh, bring up. Are the ones that I also, uh, either have worked through or are in the process of working through. So, um, and also the name stress management is of course, a bigger term that's used in many different ways. I'll be using it, especially with regards to the work of Byron Katie. As a powerful tool for reducing stress. Um, but I'll also be open to discussing other aspects of stress management, other ways of, uh, finding balance in life. Especially for people who are highly sensitive by nature. And there are some special types of stresses that we HSPs, uh, deal with and I'll be addressing those. And. Even providing some tips and strategies, uh, as we go along. But the main focus will continue to be the work of Byron Katie. That's what I'm trained in. That's my expertise. And that's what I love. Uh, so the content will be very similar. Uh, we'll have open session recordings, just like you've been hearing. Um, I will also be adding, uh, two additional episodes each week. So we're going to go from, instead of one episode per work week, we're going to go to three episodes a week. The main episode will be the open session recordings, just like we've been having all along. And the other two will be, there'll be a guided meditation, uh, episode where I will be facilitating you or anyone who's listening. In doing the work on a particular topic. Uh, and I'll be asking you directly the questions and I'll give you, I'll be giving you space to find your answers. And I'll be supporting you as we go through, uh, questioning a particular stressful thought. And so that will be on Mondays and then Wednesdays will be the open session recordings. And then Fridays. We'll be more of a strategy or tips, uh, kind of episode where I will be simply sharing some experience or giving some resource that may be supportive. If you're highly sensitive person dealing with certain kinds of stresses that may be supportive as you. As you go through. Your life. So. Can you listen, if you're not an HSP, not a highly sensitive person. Of course you can. This podcast is open to anyone and many of the same issues that people who are highly sensitive face. Are the same ones that everybody faces. And so you may learn tons just from listening. Um, and you're, you're not precluded from being a part of this. It just means that I will be focused, especially on this type of person. And that will be who I was. Speaking to throughout the episodes. And then finally the work is always the same. The work is four questions and turnarounds. I'm still just as passionate about the work as I've always been. And you will experience tons of that as we go through. The, um, the upcoming episodes. And of course you can still join in open sessions. You can bring your questions about the work you can also. Uh, do the work with me. And this will stay the same. Uh, the only decision is I'm now focusing more specifically on highly sensitive people. Ironically, that is, seems to be the audience that has, uh, kind of been listening all along primarily. Um, and so I'm just calling that and naming that. And, uh, we'll be focusing more specifically on H S P S and then the other, of course, we'll be just focusing on the idea of stress management. Uh, as something that is understandable to people in general, even if they've never heard the word. So that's what you'll see next week. We'll start with, uh, with one episode, uh, where there'll be an open session episode. And it will be quite similar, but we'll start with the new name and it will be a slightly different. Uh, kind of introduction and intro and an outro, but. Uh, look for some changes coming in. There'll be some new cover art coming as well. And there'll be, um, Lots of new contents. So if we're working three times a week, you can expect to hear lots of cool. Interesting, uh, episodes. Coming down the pipeline and I'm really looking forward to that. So stay tuned. Thank you for, uh, listening. And if you have any questions, feel free to contact me and I'll be happy to speak to you about that or, or email you about that. Once again, thanks for being a part of my journey. And I look forward to continuing that together with you.

Most creatives leave their work only half complete, and many complain about the uninspiring results. "Getting it out there" is more than uploading the work, sharing on a few select social media accounts, and then hoping people find what they are looking for. https://www.niemanlab.org/2017/07/data-from-analyzing-5000-social-videos-suggests-that-only-1-percent-will-go-viral/#:~:text=%E2%80%94%20The%20elite%20one%20percent%3A%20Wochit,set%20of%20data%3A%201.1%20percent.Transcript: Thank you for joining me today. I like to jump right into things. So the folly of talent versus viral content, this is what most creatives are missing. And this is what I was missing. When I began my creative journey, I used to say and believe just create good stuff and get it out into the world because that's what the world needs. So I would create good things and put them out in the world and get no return on it. But I would still tell my friends and anyone who I was advising the same thing, just do it and get it out there. That is really good. But that is only half the story I recorded about six albums in three years. And I went through all the complex problems that it takes to record and produce them in my home studio. And then I went through the complex tasks that it takes to get them on iTunes and Spotify. And once those were up, I waited and waited and I was really disappointed. I have still not recouped the costs of recording that began in 2015. I've gotten one payment from iTunes for $28 and some change. But before I sound like I'm complaining, I still hear and see this out there. So many artists and musicians, bloggers, writers, and other creatives, they're all creating great content, but they're complaining that nobody cares about their work. They are missing probably the biggest piece to miss. It is not anyone's job to care about your work. It is not anyone's responsibility to care about your work. So maybe you're going to pick up some friends and family, but then you're going to wonder why it never went beyond that. And the answer is nobody needs to care about your stuff. It's your job to make them care. The myth is that if you create good stuff, it should sell itself. And this just is not true. Once again, it is your job to make them care. People who create physical products know this they'll they'll create their physical product. And even though it was hard, they know that there's a second step. They know that they need to get out there and market it. But as creators, we seem to miss this, maybe because we've heard of videos going viral. So we're missing the point that we need to market our stuff. There is always a part two to getting your content out there. And this is what's missed by probably 99% of creatives. It's complex and difficult to create your own art, but it is also complex and difficult to get it out there. So you've gone through all these multiple steps to learn and then create whatever it is you've created. It is wise to realize that you are only 50% of the way there. Part two is marketing. You either have to learn a whole new skill of marketing or turn it over to someone with that skill. And one thing that I've learned as I've gone through this entire marketing process myself, is that you either have to pay with your time or with your money. There is no other way. You're either going to be paying with time or paying with money. Well, there is one other way, and that is luck. You could sit back and let luck determine your fate, let luck determine your future. That is an option, but if you're not willing to do that, and you actually want to get your stuff out there and become marketable, then you have to take the time to learn...

Oh, well, uh, you know, you put, you kind of put me on the spot here that, that, uh, the guy in the glasses right back at me in the back end. Why not?Okay here. We have to put someone on the spot to put someone on the spot, which means the embarrass someone by asking them a difficult question. I love this one because it is easy to remember for me.This was Ahmad from Senegal. You might have listened to an episode in which he appeared, actually it was episode number 32 in which we covered the expression "to come to terms with".And right at the beginning, you could listen to Obama the ex president of the USA. So someone tries to put him on the spot. And well, now we are wondering which question was meant to put him on the spot. My question is, would you please raise my taxes?Oh. And by the way, the man was unemployed by choice because he has gathered a lot of money and Obama rambled on. So he's not giving a short answer. His answer was about six minutes or so. So I didn't cover it. Examples: My brightest student asked me a difficult question today. He always puts me on the spot.My brightest student asked me a difficult question today. He always puts me on the spot. Another example, my friend's wife puts him on the spot when she asked him what he had been up to the previous night in front of people. My friend's wife put him on the spot. When she asked him what he had been up to the previous night in front of people. So the expression is informal and according to the Oxford languages definitions, it means to force someone into a situation in which they must make a difficult decision or answer a difficult question. What's your question? Are you going to make a film together ??????well, you put me on the spot there?I think I need to treat my body with more respect...To put someone on the spot. With all the changing information and attitudes and behaviors, it is fitting that we come to our overview of Session 3 for Clear View Retreat's weekend Family Camp program. Session 3 is all about adjustment. As we all know, adjustments can be hard; they can be overwhelming, and sometimes, they seem downright impossible. Let's take some of the difficult parts of making adjustments and break them down into manageable snippets. Remember, we call this spot Five Minute Families for a reason. We want each and every family to know that we are all just five minutes away from making profound and lasting positive impacts on our family, on the community, and on generations to come. At Family Camp, after recognizing our family's current identity and then assessing that identity in light of God's word, we must begin to adjust our perspectives to better align with God's. Let us give you an example… If I believe I can fly and I think that I can fly and then I act on that belief and thought, I will be harmed. No matter what I believe, no matter what I think… God's truth supersedes it all. Which, in our example, means God's ordained earthly forces will come into play and gravity will cause your flight pattern to be non-existent. Just because you believe something does not make it true. John 8:32 says, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Know truth. Teach truth. Encourage truth. God's truth never changes, but our understanding of it does. Thus, it is incumbent upon us to change our perspective to match God's. How do we do that as a family? Our pastor Sunday morning said, “To have a Christian marriage, you must be pursuing Christ.” And, the same is true of the whole family… To have a Christian family, you must be pursuing Christ. Pursuing Christ requires us to adjust our false or limited perspectives. Here are five ways to begin to change your perspective: Read God's word daily. Take it a step further and memorize one verse per week. At the end of one year, you would have 52 verses memorized. For those of you who haven't had kiddos yet, what if you were to start when your child was born? By the time he or she was 18, you would have 963 verses in which to pour into your child, your family, and, of course, yourself. Discuss daily events together and challenge each other to see God's hand in both the good and bad. Apply God's Word to some of those discussions, and you can task one another to see what biblical character fits best with the current situation and how did they handle it. Keep a family journal of prayer requests. Have that journal available often – for additions and for tracking answers to prayer requests. Take time to reflect on those prayers and share your story of family faith. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 “These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.” Play praise music when you are working together. Even if you aren't a good singer, it is good for your family to see and hear you sing praises even in the daily tasks of life. And, if your singing is really that bad, turning up the radio can help you feel more comfortable and expressive. If your children are younger, learn those great kid worship songs and connect with your kids as they grow and have new and different tastes. Share daily at least one thing you are grateful for. Dinner times are a great time of thanksgiving. We are currently sharing about “heroes” from everyday life; folks who have...
