Subid a bordo. Alien & Aliens Review:Welcome to Out from the Horrorbox! With your spaced host Dom Higuera! In this episode, we take a look at the first two films in the Alien Franchise. First, the 1979 science fiction horror film directed by Ridley Scott, Alien! In the distant future, the commercial spaceship "Nostromo" crew is on its way home when they pick up a distress call. The crew investigate, and the spaceship descends on the small planetoid afterwards. They explore the area on the planetoid, while at the same time, the ship's computer deciphers the call. When the crew realizes they are not alone on the spaceship, they must deal with the consequences. Then, we check out the 1986 science fiction action film directed by James Cameron, Aliens!57 years after Ellen Ripley had a close encounter with an alien creature, she is called back, this time to help a group of highly trained colonial marines fight off against the sinister extraterrestrials. The aliens have taken over a space colony on the moon LV-426. When the colonial marines are called upon to search the deserted space colony, they later find out that they are up against more than what they bargained for. Using specially modified machine guns and enough firepower, it's either fight or die as the space marines battle against the aliens.Let's open up the Horrorbox and find out what's inside!  Time Stamps:Alien:Star Beast - 02:30In Space No One Can Hear You Scream - 12:03Trivia (I) - 19:28Aliens:More Ellen Ripley - 29:26This Time There's More - 39:07Trivia (II) - 47:23Final Thoughts - 56:41Outro - 01:18:01 Thank you all for listening into the podcast! We'll see you next time and hear what comes Out from the Horrorbox! Sources: Wikipedia, IMDBDid you like the episode? Alien: Earth director/DP Dana Gonzales reimagines a classic

The Cinematography Podcast Episode 324: Producer, Director, DP Dana Gonzales, ASC Dana Gonzales, ASC is a producer, director, and cinematographer known for his collaborations with visionary showrunner Noah Hawley on projects like Fargo and Legion. Dana has once again partnered with Hawley to bring the iconic sci-fi horror franchise to television with FX's Alien: Earth. Dana shares insights on his creative process, the challenges of honoring a cinematic legacy, his career path and the future of the industry. For Dana and Hawley, tackling the Alien universe was a formidable task. “You're taking on some strong material,” Dana explains. “The reason we're reimagining it is because it is so popular and loved and people want to see more.” The goal wasn't just to produce a new chapter, but to recreate the visceral feeling of the original. The team deliberately leaned into the aesthetic of the first two films, going so far as to create near-exact replicas of the original Alien spaceship Nostromo's sets for the new Maginot spacecraft. While the Xenomorph has become a familiar alien over nine films, Alien: Earth adds five new and dangerous creatures. The Xenomorph has its own story arc and development throughout the show. The new, eight-hour narrative format allows for a deeper exploration of the story and characters. “Not everyone has seen Alien that's seeing Alien: Earth,” Dana notes. The goal is to to tell a story that works for both new and existing fans. "As we go down the road, things will be different, we'll make different choices,” he adds. “But the key is to try to honor the original work. I feel like the audience depends on it. Episode 1 should feel like episode 8.” Dana and Hawley's deep respect for the source material extends to their technical approach. They wanted to capture the original film's sense of existential dread, a feeling heightened by the decision to have the ship crash on Earth. This plot point dictated Dana's plan for the camera work, with little coverage and long takes. They frequently stayed in a two-shot to maintain intimacy and tension. To further evoke the feel of the original, Alien: Earth was shot in 2.3:5 anamorphic, a first for the FX network. Hawley directed episodes one and five, with Dana serving as cinematographer to establish the look of the show. Dana stepped into the director's chair for episodes two, three, seven, and eight. “We can have honest conversations about what we want to do with these episodes,” Dana says. "We have a similar aesthetic.” Dana is also an executive producer on their joint projects, acting as a “creative executive producer” on set. In this role, he preps each episode, serves as the on-set decision-maker and manages second unit photography, ensuring the overall creative vision is maintained. The trust between Dana and Hawley is a fundamental part of their collaboration. They begin by building the world, finding images and discussing the story arc. This partnership, which began on Fargo, has evolved into a creative shorthand. “Noah is the creator, he knows what he wants to do,” Dana shares. “Our shorthand, we get to what the shows will look like and feel like in a very organic way in a few conversations.” Hawley's support allows Dana to push creative boundaries. “One of the most attractive things about this collaboration is that he's got my back and I could push things creatively,” he says. “I try things, I throw it out there, I do whatever. And I think he comes to expect that and likes that.” Dana first moved from cinematographer to director on the show Pretty Little Liars. As a cinematographer, he had strong ideas about camera placement and perspective, which he felt were central to storytelling. On directing, he advises, “You have to do the first one and you have to make mistakes.” Dana believes that a background as an episodic DP provides a unique advantage for directing. “As an episodic DP, you already understand working with different people,

On this episode of Bingeworthy, host Mike DeAngelo is joined by writer, director, and showrunner Noah Hawley ("Fargo," "Legion") to discuss his new FX series, "Alien: Earth." The highly anticipated prequel series debuted August 12th and runs through September 23rd, delivering a bold new chapter in the iconic sci-fi horror franchise. Set in a future Earth, the story follows a young woman and a band of tactical hybrid misfits who uncover a terrifying secret after a mysterious spacecraft crash-lands in their corporate territory, forcing them into direct conflict with everyone's favorite killer, acid-blooded alien species and much more. The series stars Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, and Timothy Olyphant.READ MORE: ‘Alien: Earth' Review: Noah Hawley Matches Ridley Scott's Classic In A Terrifically Smart, Engaging & Terrifying Sci-Fi Horror SeriesThe show takes place only two years prior to the events of "Alien," and Hawley made doubly sure his series felt instantly familiar to fans of the original. “People have to watch it in the first five minutes and go, this is Alien,” Hawley said. That meant using the actual Nostromo blueprints to design the Maginot ship and opening the series just like Scott's 1979 film—with the crew waking up, smoking, eating, and overlapping their conversations. “It has to feel authentic,” Hawley stressed.

Send us a textWhat makes a horror film truly terrifying? In our deep dive into Ridley Scott's 1979 masterpiece Alien, we discover it's what you don't see that haunts you most. The slow-burning tension of the Nostromo's corridors, the cosmic horror of that derelict alien spacecraft, the shadow-cloaked xenomorph – Scott crafts an atmosphere of dread that feels as fresh today as it did over forty years ago. We explore how this film brilliantly balances restraint with shock, particularly in the infamous chestburster scene. Did you know the cast's horrified reactions were genuine? They had no idea what was about to erupt from John Hurt's chest, creating one of cinema's most authentically terrifying moments.Beyond its surface scares, Alien harbors deeper themes about corporate exploitation. The ship's very name, Nostromo, references Joseph Conrad's novel about labor exploitation – a subtle nod to how these working-class crew members are mere pawns in a corporate game. Ian Holm's android Ash embodies this corporate callousness, placing "company orders" above human lives. We dissect his brilliant performance and the shocking milk-white reveal of his true nature. For Rich, experiencing Alien for the first time led to fascinating discussions about expectations versus reality. While some of us grew up with action figures from the more combat-oriented sequels, the original's horror roots came as a welcome surprise. Dakota and Anthony share their childhood memories of encountering the franchise, from Mad Magazine parodies to that unforgettable "mouth within a mouth" design that continues to disturb.Whether you're revisiting this classic or hearing about it for the first time, join us as we celebrate the film that birthed a franchise and forever changed science fiction horror. And stay tuned – next week we're continuing our Alien journey with James Cameron's action-packed sequel, Aliens!Twitter handles:Project Geekology: https://twitter.com/pgeekologyAnthony's Twitter: https://twitter.com/odysseyswowDakota's Twitter: https://twitter.com/geekritique_dakInstagram:https://instagram.com/projectgeekology?igshid=1v0sits7ipq9yYouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@projectgeekologyGeekritique (Dakota):https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBwciIqOoHwIx_uXtYTSEbASupport the show

Thank you for joining Jay of the Dead's New Horror Movies for the third installment (covering the fourth episode) of ALIEN: EARTH (2025), where four of the Horror Avengers discuss Episode 004: Observation. Jay of the Dead is joined by Dr. Walking Dead, GregaMortis, and Mackula. These intrepid, stellar podcasters endeavor to explore a deep-dive into Alien Universe timelines, ship-building lore, and the narrative tightrope walk between central arcs and peripheral details. Jay, Dr. Bishop, GregaMortis and Mackula engage in an esoteric and nerdy discussion that veers from the confusing release-versus-story order of the Alien Universe to the corporate fingerprints of Weyland and Yutani on iconic vessels like the Prometheus, Nostromo, and Maginot. The crew weighs in on how fans can critically balance attention between the show's main story and its subtle background details, with Mackula revisiting his “bridge episode” critique and GregaMortis defending the layered storytelling. And yes, beware — major plot spoilers abound! From squid eyeballs capable of brain-hijacking to Wendy's psychic link with the xenomorph language, the hosts unpack the latest terrors and teases while speculating about synthetic-human hybrids and the future of Kirsch, Timothy Olyphant's pivotal character. The crew contemplates whether xenomorphs can bond emotionally; hints at shadowy corporate wars, circa 2119 – 2120; and discusses unsettling implications of transferring consciousness between alien, human, and synthetic. While pacing frustrations and cliffhanger-heavy storytelling drew some critique, ratings remained high… And though Mackula declined to score, he acknowledged the setup for big payoffs ahead. THANKS TO ANDREW FOR MAKING THE INTRO SONG. (soundcloud.com / andoryukesuta)@andoryukesuta The commercial space tug Nostromo is returning to Earth with a seven-member crew in "stasis" (suspended animation): captain Dallas, executive officer Kane, warrant officer Ripley, navigator Lambert, science officer Ash, and engineers Parker and Brett. The ship's computer, Mother, detects a transmission from a nearby planet and awakens the crew. Following company policy to investigate transmissions indicating intelligent life, they land on the planet. Dallas, Kane, and Lambert discover the transmission comes from a derelict alien spaceship. Inside is a large alien corpse with a hole in its torso. Later, Mother partially deciphers the transmission, which Ripley determines is a warning beacon. Kane enters a chamber containing hundreds of large eggs. When he touches one, a spider-like creature springs out, penetrates his helmet, and attaches to his face. Dallas and Lambert carry the unconscious Kane back to the Nostromo. Ripley refuses to allow them aboard, citing quarantine regulations, but Ash overrides her. While Parker and Brett do ship repairs, Ash attempts to remove the creature from Kane's face. He stops when he discovers that its highly corrosive acidic blood could harm Kane and potentially damage the ship's hull. The creature eventually detaches itself and dies. After the crew returns to space, Kane awakens and seems well. During a final crew meal before returning to stasis, he suddenly chokes and convulses. A small alien creature bursts from his chest, killing him, and escapes into the ship. After ejecting Kane's body into space, the crew uses tracking devices to locate and kill the creature. Brett follows the ship's cat, Jones, into a landing leg compartment.[10] The now fully-grown alien kills Brett. It is determined that the alien is using the air ducts. Dallas enters one with a flamethrower to force the creature into an airlock, but it kills him. Lambert suggests fleeing in the small shuttle, but it will not support four people. Ripley, now in command, decides they will flush out the alien. While accessing Mother, Ripley discovers that the crew was awoken and directed to the planet; the company secretly ordered Ash to return with the alien for study and to consider the crew expendable. She confronts Ash, who attempts to kill her. Parker intervenes, knocking Ash's head loose, revealing him to be an android. The survivors reactivate Ash's head, and he confirms the company's orders. Ash states that the alien cannot be killed and expresses admiration for it, taunting them about their chances of survival. Ripley shuts Ash down and Parker incinerates him.

A passionate environmental advocate, he has a background in big data analytics for industrial energy conservation and has held leadership positions at several clean-tech software companie   Yaron's team designed an ice thermal energy storage system that is challenging the current energy storage landscape. With proven technology, their system is perfectly safe with zero degradation over 10 years of operation. Their first commercial deployment has been running since June 2019 and they have 3 systems under construction in total capacity of 3.8 mWh.   Show Highlights   Nostromo focuses on using water as an energy storage medium. Technology allows for retrofitting existing buildings to become sustainable energy storage systems. Ideal project specifications and electric bill structure for determining project viability. The growing importance of buildings in energy management as the green economy evolves particularly in large buildings with high cooling demands. Nostromo's technology is best suited for buildings with significant cooling loads. Inefficiencies of traditional energy storage methods like lithium-ion batteries. Enabling retrofitting of existing buildings into sustainable energy systems. The green economy is growing, and clean energy transformation is inevitable. Buildings must become proactive participants in energy management. Local regulations like New York's Local Law 97 are crucial for driving sustainability in the building sector.   “You should wish to fail fast. That's what I'm saying. After a few failures, if you actually learn something from it, you will have success. Forty-five years ago, one of The Greatest and Most Influential Science Fiction and Horror films was first released.   And now to celebrate the release of the latest entry in the long-running Alien saga - Alien: Romulus - here is a newly remastered review of the original with a few extra features. This was only the second feature to be directed by Sir Ridley Scott near the beginning of what would eventually become an illustrious career including Gladiator, Blade Runner, Thelma & Louise, and The Martian.  The story follows the crew of the Nostromo, a mining ship in outer space in the future which is called to answer a distress call on a nearby planet (LV-426) and once on that planet, they of course get more than they bargained for….eventually meeting the eponymous Alien. :o It stars Tom Skerritt as Dallas, the Captain of this crew along with Sigourney Weaver in her first major role and the one which made her a star…..as Lieutenant Ellen Ripley.  Host: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a Text Message.https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/
