During this difficult time for many, including charities, we've highlighted some great charity fundraising efforts on Morning Focus this week. On Friday, 75-year-old Peadar White from Ennis told us of his 12-hour cycle in aid of the Samaritans, all from his sitting room! He usually does the event at The Height in Ennis, but couldn't do so this year on account of the pandemic. Donations can be made online at www.idonate.ie/PeadarWhite12HourCycle or send a cheque to Ennis Samaritans, Sunville, Kilrush Road, Ennis County Clare. We also spoke with Gearoid Cahill from Corofin GAA Club about their upcoming Everest Climb ‘Solo Run Challenge’. 50 club members will summit Mullaghmore while simultaneously soloing with a football or sliothar. Club members will summit in small groups and abide by social distancing guidelines at all times. The 50 ascents of Mullaghmore together equal the height of Mount Everest! Full details can be found on www.facebook.com/Corofin-GAA-Club-Clare-172183416238836/ Gavin also mentioned the charity fundraising efforts of Ella and Tadhg Fitzpatrick from Newmarket on Fergus (www.https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ellafitzpatrick2020), and of Trevor Collins from Feakle (https://www.facebook.com/donate/2625671787691410/) - they're all shaving their heads for their respective good causes. Gillian Davis Dunphy and others are walking 100,000 steps in 24 hours (that's more than one step for each and every second) in aid of Cahercalla Hospice and Slainte An Chláir (https://www.gofundme.com/f/wellfit-100k-steps-in-24-hours-for-our-frontline) Yesterday, we also spoke with Rosie McMahon from Ballynacally who is walking a marathon this Sunday to aid the Simon Community, and with Daire Mulherin who is raffling off CDs as a fundraiser to try to get access to an important therapy for the daughter of his cousin, Keith.
