USS The Sullivans is berthed now at the Buffalo Naval and Servicemen's Park in New York. We learned a lot about USS The Sullivans when we toured the USS Yorktown in June 2024. It's a very different name for a ship and that's because it was named for five brothers who all died aboard the same ship when it was sunk by a Japanese submarine during World War II. Those brothers just may be haunting their namesake. Or maybe there are other spirits here. Join us as we explore the history and hauntings of USS The Sullivans. The Moment in Oddity features the Father of the Marathon and This Month in History features the Klondike Gold Rush. Our location was suggested by Erica Merhoff. Barry Creyton began his career at the age of 17 in theatre and in radio in Australia and by age 20, was playing leads on stage, and in national radio productions. He also hosted his own weekly radio program devoted to theatre news and interviews. At 21, he made his Australian television debut as Lorenzo in a national television production of The Merchant of Venice. For three seasons, he starred in the TV series The Mavis Bramston Show. This ground breaking show, the highest rated in the history of Australian television, dealt with topical and political satire.Creyton relocated to England for twelve years playing comedy and dramatic roles in London's West End - including Don's Party (Royal Court), Roger's Last Stand (Duke of York's), Ten Years Hard (Mayfair), Urban Guerilla (Soho Poly), a revival of the musical Salad Days, and Liz, a musical based on Aristophanes' Lysistrata as well as several revues and the National Tour of Abelard and Heloise. On his return to Australia, Creyton starred in many theatre productions - Ayckbourn's Bedroom Farce, Season's Greetings and Absurd Person Singular, Frayn's Noises Off, and in Pack Of Lies, Side By Side By Sondheim, The Owl And The Pussycat, Suddenly At Home, The Philanthropist, and played twins in the comedy-thriller Corpse. He guest starred on many popular TV episodics. These roles were generally amorous cads or big-business villains - characters at odds with the comedies he played on the stage. They included The Restless Years, The Young Doctors, Skyways, Cop Shop, The Sullivans, I Married a Bachelor, Cuckoo in the Nest, as well as guest star roles in TV movies, Image of Death, All at Sea, the Michael Powell feature, They're a Weird Mob and the BBC's Robert Louis Stevenson in Australia. He turned to directing, with the musical Nunsense which broke box office records all over Australia, and employed two companies playing simultaneously. A motorcycle accident during the run of Corpse resulted in a badly broken leg. The long recuperation period enabled him to write a stage comedy, Double Act. Since 1990, Creyton has worked almost exclusively in the United States, principally as writer and director. He relocated from New York to Los Angeles when commissioned to write a movie of the week for Hearst Television, while his off Broadway revue Secrets Every Smart Traveler Should Know ran for two and a half years in New York. His critically acclaimed adaptation of Noël Coward's Peace in Our Time for the Antaeus Theatre Company in L.A. received the Ovation Award and the L.A. Weekly Annual Theatre Award; the L. A. Times voted the production among the best world theatre of the year.He has appeared on stage at the Antaeus Theatre in Balzac's Cousin Bette, Shaw's The Doctors Dilemma and Moliere's School For Wives and as Apollo in The Curse of Oedipus.Creyton returns to Australia periodically for theatre engagements, starring in Noël Coward's Blithe Spirit, directing and starring in his own plays, Later Than Spring and Valentine's Day (since produced in several languages and, along with his Double Act, in constant repertoire in Europe), and in 2007 he returned to Sydney's Ensemble Theatre to star in Peter Quilter's play Glorious, and again in 2010 in Quilter's Duets, in which he played four diverse characters. His young adult novels, The Dogs of Pompeii and Nero Goes to Rome, co-authored with American writer Vaughan Edwards, are published by Random House, and his novel Murder is Fatal, an affectionate parody of noir movies, was published in 2017.His novel The View from Olympus Mons, was published in 2022 by NineStar Press. The STAGES podcast is available to access and subscribe from Spotify and Apple podcasts. We've got 8 to go through : Guinness, Sullivans, O'Hara's, Murphy's, Forged, Guinness Zero, Zero Gravity and Lawson's. Does Guinness hold the top spot? Feb 1 1875 Billy Sullivan born is born, he will debut in 1898. Despite being a notoriously poor hitter, Billy Sullivan is generally regarded as one of the best defensive catchers of the Deadball Era.In 1901, Sullivan jumped to the Chicago White Sox of the new American League and was the catcher in the circuit's first game, collecting a pair of hits in an 8-2 Chicago victory over the Cleveland Blues on April 24. He batted only .245 that season, but would never again top .229, hitting as low as .162 in a full season and having an average below .200 five times. Between 1901 and 1911, the Sox never finished lower than fourth with Sullivan as their starting catcher and won two pennants, in 1901 and 1906. During the two seasons in which he missed significant playing time because of injuries, in 1903 and 1910, the team finished more than 30 games out of first place.Sullivan is perhaps most famous for going hitless during the 1906 World Series, finishing 0 for 21 with 9 strikeouts. In spite of this lack of production, he played every inning of the Series as the White Sox beat their cross-town rivals the Chicago Cubs in six games.Sullivan batted only .213 lifetime, the second-lowest batting average for a player with over 3000 at-bats (the lowest average belongs to Bill Bergen, a contemporary catcher). As poor as his offense was, his defense was outstanding: he was reckoned to have the best throwing arm in the American League and his ability to work with pitchers was second-to-none. During his career, he led the AL in fielding four times.Todays catchers have Sullivan to thank who actually pattened shin pads Sullivan's son Billy Sullivan Jr. played in the majors from 1931 to 1943. In the Arete Coach Podcast episode 1161 titled, "TEC-niques of Leadership: From Concept to Growth of The Executive Committee to Vistage," host Severin Sorensen interviews Fred Chaney, an executive coach, Vistage Chair, former CEO of TEC (or The Executive Committee), and former CEO of Lonestar Steakhouse (including Texas Land and Cattle, Del Friscos, and Sullivans). In this episode we feature Fred Chaney, a visionary entrepreneur, Vistage Chair, and former CEO of The Executive Committee (TEC), now known as Vistage Worldwide. We explore several key themes and experiences from Chaney's remarkable career. The podcast delves into Chaney's journey from his academic pursuits in engineering and psychology to his pioneering work in executive coaching and his influential role in shaping the world of executive leadership through Vistage. Fred Chaney's career began with significant contributions to aerospace, where he worked on projects such as the lunar landing module and a manned orbital station. His transition into management education marked the inception of TEC groups for CEOs, which he started in Southern California in 1969. Chaney's approach to coaching, heavily influenced by his belief in the power of listening over instructing, was shaped by figures like Bob Nourse, the original founder of TEC, and Stephen Covey, an authority in empathetic listening. Chaney's philosophy underscores the importance of understanding and gently guiding executives rather than directing them. Chaney's expansion of TEC into a global entity serving thousands of CEOs and executives across various countries was a significant milestone. This growth was fueled by his ability to attract and nurture high-caliber members and expand internationally, thanks in part to the contributions of key figures like Pat Hyndman. His third career phase saw him successfully chairing a major restaurant company, further demonstrating his versatile leadership and business acumen. In the podcast, Chaney shared insights on various topics, including the challenges and rewards of executive coaching, the impact of artificial intelligence on business, and his strategies for driving group growth and effectiveness. His emphasis on opportunity over problem-solving and his anecdotal teachings provide valuable lessons for leaders and coaches alike. The Arete Coach Podcast seeks to explore the art and science of executive coaching. You can find out more about this podcast at aretecoach.io. This episode was produced on November 3, 2023. Our NP/RNs chose the right medication for you and monitor your weight loss with our body composition machine, In Body® to help you see the fat you are losing. We combine “fat-loss” treatments with muscle preservation with testosterone pellets. Preserving Muscle mass is critical to stimulating the metabolism and to anti-aging progress. As you reach your weight loss goal, BioBalance® offers esthetic body sculpting treatments, when you have lost enough weight to shape your body without pain or lost time at work. We acquired the most effective body sculpting EM Sculpt machine to sculpt your body with increased muscle, fat loss and tighter skin; EMsella for treating urinary incontinence and EM face for a non-surgical face lift. We review your Medical History, Symptoms and Lab before making an appointment for you, to determine if you need our treatment. We realize that you don't want to pay for something you don't need, so we review your medical history and blood work before you pay us anything or waste your time on an appointment that doesn't lead to treatment. If we cannot treat your particular medical problem, we will give you your lab test results to take to your PCP and you will not have paid anything. We only make an appointment for you if we believe we can help treat your symptoms, medical problems and/or help you lose weight if needed. Unlike any other practice we offer hour-long consultations with our doctors for your first, follow up, and problem consultations. Dr Maupin has created a medical practice dedicated to truly bringing her patients back to health: sexually, metabolically, nutritionally, and to help them look as good as they feel with her Esthetic practice, BioBalance® Skin. BioBalance Heath is the fourth medical practice Dr Maupin created/managed over more than 38 years of practicing medicine. Bio Balance Health® is the culmination of all she learned from organizing the three OBGYN practices. She decided that the only way to be the best doctor she could be was to surround herself with the most intelligent Doctors, Nurses and Nurse Practitioners, the most skilled staff possible and to treat them and pay them well, like family. Through her experience, combined with Dr Sullivan's business training and Family medicine background, she has created what she views as the finest type of preventive, hormonal medical practice. We want our patients to feel healthy, and to be productive as long as they live! Dr Maupin, Dr Sullivan, their husbands, and Dr Sullivans in-laws are all BioBalance® patients. Bio Balance® knows that the health we have as we age is primarily due to replacement and management of our hormones, nutrition, exercise and attaining ideal weight. Her plan behind the scenes is to create a medical practice that patients enjoy coming to, where staff is happy and well paid, and where doctors and NPs are encouraged to treat patients with cutting edge medical care for the benefit of their patients. Twenty-one years later, her dream is a reality and there is no other medical practice like it! You only pay for what you get! Your cost is based on what you receive, not on a large yearly fee that some other practices require. We are a cash practice because insurance companies don't pay for preventive medicine or bio-identical hormone replacement for women. They also generally won't pay for weight loss. For the services they do pay for we understand that many of our patients pay for insurance, and we try to use it when we can. Most of our prescriptions and labs we order are covered by health insurance directly. we will give you copies of your invoice to submit for your reimbursement from your insurance if your insurance allows. If you don't have insurance or have a high deductible, we will pass along the discount the lab companies give us, so your lab cost will be much lower than if you paid them directly! We live by the belief that we can offer medical treatment to our patients based on what we would want if we were the patient: To be treated individually, kindly, and efficiently To offer individualized treatment to each patient In a practice environment that is uplifting and happy From staff who feel like family In a lovely environment that is not clinical like other doctor's offices With individualized personal care over time To offer efficiency by stocking supplements and products on site for patients to buy on site To only offer quality goods and treatments we use personally To offer compassion that carries through everyone who works for BioBalance® Health and BioBalance® Skin.
With our full, regular September episode just around the corner, I wanted to sneak one extra One Shot Episode in while my buddy and all around "RPG Idea Wizard," Jonathan Sullivan still has his Kickstarter going. However, we actually spend the majority of this episode talking about his early gaming experiences and what it takes to make an 3PP adventure worthy of the Dungeon Crawl Classics label. But we do get around to talking about his new adventure, "A Fairly Odd Tale" occasionally and I think you're going to love it! Check it out here... At the end I also mention, friend of the show, Levi Combs's new best of the RPG best extravaganza: "The Closet of the Eye Wizard" with only about 3 days left for backing (Closet of the Eye Wizard). My project called "Cover Stories" (3 gm screen-shaped short form adventures) is also out there too. Farming near an urban center has unique challenges. Dusty is joined in this episode by Matt Sullivan of Circle S Farms in Franklin County. Matt along with his wife Amy and their sons Caleb and Timothy and Caleb's wife Claire operate Circle S Farms serving the greater Columbus, Ohio metro area. Over the years the operation has evolved from a traditional crop and livestock farm in the 1950's, to a large turkey farm, to a traditional cash grain operation, to a diversified vegetable operation, to now an agritourism farm. The Sullivans still grow corn and soybeans, but also pumpkins and sunflowers. Join Dusty and Matt as they talk about the journey of this family farm and the opportunitites and challenges of farming near a large metro area.

As the UK's independent public inquiry into Covid-19 gets underway, members of the Covid bereaved complain that they are not being given an opportunity to testify. Today, Mark speaks to the parents of Susan Sullivan, a Down's Syndrome woman who died of Covid-19 at Barnet General Hospital on March 28, 2020, after being deemed “not for resuscitation” and being denied access to intensive care. The Sullivans have long suspected that their daughter was the victim of medical bias and may have survived if the hospital had granted her statutory right to have a family member at her bedside. Determined to be Susan's voice, John and Ida Sullivan launched their own investigation into Susan's death and uncovered a catalogue of medical errors in the process. We also hear from Baroness Heather Hallet, the chair of the UK public inquiry, and from Fran Hall and other members of Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice UK. A special episode of the STAGES podcast - a Mother's Day focus with two of our favourite Mother/Daughter acting pairs - Belinda Giblin and Romy Bartz. Many women have followed their Mums into the precarious vocation that is the stage and screen. Whilst being witness to the challenge and triumph of such a career, it has not stopped them following in Mother's footsteps - chasing the dream, telling stories and embracing a wondrous profession. For many showbiz families, it is the family business; and we are aware of the dynasties who have made Acting their focus across several generations. Some who trod the boards, are the ‘black sheep' of the family, who find their way without a single member guiding the way. So what are the challenges, or the advances, if any, of having your Mum lead the way. Belinda and Romy offer a unique insight and allow us to celebrate their significant talents. Belinda Giblin is one of Australia's most distinguished stage and screen actors. Her most recent theatre credits include “Amadeus” alongside Michael Sheen, and Melissa Bubnic's “Ghosting the Party” (Griffin Theatre). Other recent credits include “Blonde Poison” (Old Fitz, SOH, Southbank) “Doubt” (Old Fitz) Samuel Beckett's “Happy Days”(Old Fitz) for all of which she was nominated for Best Actress in an Independent production by the Sydney Theatre Critics' Circle Awards. On television Belinda has had regular roles in the series “Home and Away”; “Sons and Daughters”; “Heartbreak High”; “The Sullivans”; and “The Box “. Film credits include “ Peterson”, “Say you Want Me” for which she won a Sammy award, and an award winning short film “Stille Nacht”. Belinda appeared in an Independent feature film, “A Stitch in Time”(Sasha Hadden Productions) in 2022. Belinda is presently playing in ‘Suddenly Last Summer' at the Ensemble Theatre. Romy Bartz is an actor and director who graduated from NIDA. Since graduating she has performed in theatre productions such as ‘Hillbilly Thriller', ‘The Moors', ‘Mercury Fur', ‘Slaughterhouse', ‘Bull', ‘Idle Lies', ‘Why Torture is Wrong and the People Who Love Them' and ‘Thank You for Being a Friend'. Romy's television credits include ‘Reef Break', ‘The Politically Incorrect Parenting Show', ‘The Surgeon', ‘Love My Way', ‘Skool Sue', ‘White Collar Blue' and ‘Murder Under the Microscope'.The STAGES podcast is available to access and subscribe from Spotify and Apple podcasts. We are so excited to be starting a mini-series here on The Stories Collective! Over the next three weeks we will be covering the story of The Sullivan family. Our host Sarah Schalow first met The Sullivans back in March of 2022 shortly after this podcast first launched. After that meeting, we knew we had to share their story. The Sullivan's story starts off with Jenny Wims in Texas. In May of 2000 Jenny married her college sweetheart Brad. They had been married for six years and had one child with another on the way when Brad began testing for some pain he was experiencing in his knee. What was thought to be an old softball injury turned out to be a rare form of cancer. The next two years would be filled with doctor visits, multiple surgeries, treatment plans, traveling across the world for medical care and more. A major part of this story is how Jenny and Brad's church came around them and helped with meals, childcare, cleaning, encouragement - they showed up in incredible ways. Shortly after Brad's diagnosis Jenny began blogging their journey as a family to help keep friends and family updated (we've linked that below). The blog gained a following and people from all over the U.S. and the world were praying for the Wims family.Jenny continued to blog and eventually heard of another family with a blog that was stationed with the Air Force in Japan going through a very similar journey with cancer. But you'll have to join us for Part 2 to hear that part of the story...Join us on Wednesday, September 21st for Part 2! Would you please subscribe and leave us a review? This will help our podcast reach more people! We'd love it if you'd share this podcast with your friends on social media and beyond.Check out Jenny's blog - http://thewims.blogspot.com

Patrick Sullivan, MD, and his son Jason Sullivan, MD are two orthopedic surgeons here at DMOS. In this Joint Effort episode, the father-son duo chat about their upbringing, family life, education, and even share a few funny stories! Learn about how Dr. Jason Sullivan followed in his father's footsteps in becoming an orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Jason Sullivan explains, “When I was growing up, you never said, ‘hey, you need to do orthopedics.' I think I just saw a pretty good career, and I thought it would keep me intellectually stimulated.” Dr. Patrick Sullivan stated the importance of making your own career choices, “It's very interesting that you made the independent choice, and you're happy with it like I was; I'm happy and proud of you for that. I think everyone has to find their own way to what they want to do.” Over their time at DMOS, they have had cases where they could combine their skillset and work alongside one another. Working together has allowed the two to learn from each other's surgical experiences and expertise. Dr. Jason Sullivan exclaimed, “That to me was a heck of a lot of fun.” They both enjoy the times they have gotten to work together and hope to do more cases together in the future. As for the next generation of Sullivans, is orthopedics in the cards? Dr. Jason asked Dr. Patrick if he would encourage any of his children to do orthopedics. “Here's what I'd tell them to do. Find out what you're good at. Try a whole bunch of things; see where your natural interests, skills, and intellect range is. Then find a career in that sphere that allows you independence and to be sort of self-employed, so you have more control of your world and enjoy what you do.” The Sullivan's have a combined total of over 40 years at DMOS. Their dedication to providing the highest quality of orthopedic care and their support from one another is extraordinary. We dedicate this Father's day episode to all the wonderful dads in the world. Happy Father's Day!
