The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - were at Husky Stadium Friday night to watch the Washington Huskies go through their 15th and final spring practice, one they call 'Dawgs After Dark'. It was a full tackle scrimmage that lasted roughly two hours and about 85-90 plays, according to Washington Head Coach Jedd Fisch. He split the teams up, ran the number one and number two quarterbacks out there for the first half, and then the backup quarterbacks did the same for the second half. In the first half of the recap podcast, the guys broke down what they saw on offense, specifically from true freshman receiver Raiden Vines-Bright. RVB unofficially caught 8 passes for 131 yards and one touchdown, dwarfing the production from the rest of the receiver group combined. After a quick break, the talk turned to the defensive side and two players were singled out not just for how they played Friday night, but all spring; EDGE Jacob Lane and CB Rahshawn Clark. Les LED RGB sont aujourd'hui très à la mode, et peut-être que vous-même en avez dans votre PC, qu'il s'agisse des boîtiers ou bien des cartes graphiques, en passant par les souris, les claviers ou même les barrettes de mémoire vive. Justement, ces barrettes de RAM sont aujourd'hui accusées de dégrader le matériel des composants sur lesquelles elles sont posées, notamment les cartes graphiques.C'est sur le réseau social Reddit que l'on trouve la trace des premiers témoignages. Deux utilisateurs ont récemment révélé un problème sur leur PC qu'ils attribuent à l'éclairage RGB de leur RAM. Plus précisément, c'est en voulant changer leur carte graphique, des GeForce RTX 3080 et GeForce RTX 4080, que les deux utilisateurs ont remarqué une dégradation au niveau de la backplate, cette plaque de métal qui vient « habiller » la carte tout en assurant le refroidissement de certains composants. Sur les photos partagées sur le réseau, on y voit des marques qui rappellent grandement l'éclairage des barrettes de mémoire vive justement utilisées.Depuis, plusieurs jours, les deux utilisateurs ont été rejoints par d'autres internautes recontrant à chaque fois le même problème : l'éclairage RVB des barrettes de RAM donne l'impression d'avoir marqué la backplate. Dès lors, une première hypothèse a été avancée : la chaleur émise par les diodes aurait pu marquer la backplate. Une autre hypothèse, jugée plus crédible, voudrait que les ultra-violets émis par l'éclairage RVB des barrettes, autour des 400 nm, ne « brûle » les matériaux, pas toujours de bonne qualité, qui recouvrent la backplate. Des brûlures qui ne semblent pas affecter le fonctionnement des cartes graphiques pour autant, mais qui posent tout de même la question de la dangerosité de ces LED RGB. Ce dernier observe les manipulations photographiques du jeune artiste, des prises de vue et collages argentiques aux photogrammes corporels géants, pour ce qui allait constituer les séries des Albums et des Balcons présentées l'année suivante aux Rencontres d'Arles et à Paris Photo. Outre cette agilité à expérimenter les procédés photographiques traditionnels, Laroche perçoit chez Rabichon sa considération du végétal et des fleurs, motifs récurrents dans son travail. Il va l'enchanter en lui présentant un ensemble d'autochromes originaux, datés entre 1910 et 1917. Fabrice Laroche s'est vu confier ces plaques de verre par un ami jardinier, qui les tenait de son arrière-grand-tante, laquelle les avait reçues en cadeau. Jeanne a été l'une des gouvernantes d'Albert Kahn et l'a accompagné passionnément les dernières années de sa vie. Le coffret s'est transmis à travers les générations jusqu'au partage entre l'héritier jardinier et le dépositaire photographe, pour en imaginer une postérité.Se découvrant une passion commune pour l'expérimentation, Baptiste Rabichon et Fabrice Laroche vont travailler à révéler la fascination opérée par ces merveilleux objets. A l'instar de petites machines à remonter le temps, ils projettent le spectateur dans une époque où la modernité de l'autochrome permettait à la photographie de rivaliser avec la peinture dans la représentation de la nature et des paysages. Un héritage d'une grande charge émotionnelle qui décide Rabichon & Laroche à exploiter la dimension secrète de ces vestiges photographiques.Titre gigogne, Les Intermittences du coeur évoque autant cette démarche introspective que la succession d'histoires révélées par l'exploration de ces autochromes, telle une saga. Emprunté à Marcel Proust, ce titre d'un chapitre de La recherche du temps perdu est aussi présenté comme le titre caché, celui que l'écrivain avait initialement envisagé de donner à son roman. Pour Rabichon & Laroche, il rétablit la chaîne des liens tissés entre tous les passeurs des photographies d'Albert Kahn jusqu'à leur oeuvre finale.Le tirage d'après autochrome, un défi techniqueL'autochrome est un procédé de restitution photographique des couleurs breveté en 1903 par les frères Lumière. C'est la première technique industrielle de photographie couleur en produisant des images positives sur plaques de verre. L'autochrome n'a donc pas vocation à être tiré sur papier, l'image est directement visible par rétroéclairage. Au demeurant, les plaques restent d'un format assez réduit, en l'occurence 9 x 12 cm, ce qui induit une grande proximité entre le sujet et le regard du spectateur qui doit scruter l'image au plus près, si ce n'est avec une loupe pour la perception des détails.Prenant le contre-pied de cette esthétique de la miniature, le binôme commence par une projection plus monumentale, à l'échelle du mur de leur grand laboratoire, à l'intérieur de laquelle ils viennent cadrer des morceaux choisis. Cette libre immersion dans les Jardins du monde d'Albert Kahn, est fixée en négatif sur un premier tirage, qui servira de contact lors d'une seconde projection pour restituer l'image en positif.Ce travail à même la surface du mur, compte tenu de la taille des tirages, parfois de plus de deux mètres, implique l'engagement de tout le corps, bras déployés pour maintenir les bords et les angles, assurer le contact entre les deux épreuves. Cette pression aléatoire entre les deux surfaces insolées génère comme d'étranges mises au point dans le paysage, avec ses zones de flou ou de netteté.Un bond spatio-temporel dans une matière-couleurMais le plus surprenant réside dans la perception de la couleur. Selon une analogie avec l'histoire de la peinture, que le thème de la variation autour d'un même jardin oriente inexorablement, l'effet semble véritablement pointilliste. De près, le motif se brouille en une abstraction de points colorés pour se recomposer avec du recul. Très visible, la trame dans l'image pourrait être celle d'une sérigraphie ou d'une impression offset. Tandis que la simplification manifeste de la palette de couleurs, en trichromie (orange, vert, violet), permettrait tout autant un bond spaciotemporel dans une image digitale et pixellisée. Sous l'effet de l'agrandissement, les millions de grains microscopiques de fécule de pomme de terre compressés à la surface de la plaque de verre, pour constituer le filtre de l'autochrome, semblent éclater à la manière d'un bruit numérique : un anachronisme visuel qui régénère l'image et son motif dans l'oeil du spectateur contemporain habitué à la synthèse RVB (rouge, vert, bleu) à la surface de ses écrans.Pour le néophyte en photographie, la perte de repères paraît renforcée par une énigme, celle des ronds noirs ou blancs sur les bords du papier. Empreintes en positif ou négatif des aimants qui tiennent le papier au mur lors des phases successives de tirage, ils constituent au contraire la preuve de la matérialité du dispositif.En 1932, les frères Lumière annonçaient l'abandon de la production des autochromes, faute de reproductibilité possible de l'image. À l'ère de l'hyper-reproductibilité et de la dématérialisation des images, Rabichon & Laroche relèvent le défi d'une nouvelle surface tangible dans la réécriture du passé : l'uchronie en photographie.Une ambition qui transcende à la fois l'oeuvre immense d'Albert Kahn, le secret dévouement de Jeanne, et la disparition tragique de l'ami jardinier qui ne verra pas l'hommage rendu à son aïeule.Dans l'intimité du laboratoire, l'esthétique du travail traduit aussi l'exaltation d'une expérience mêlée d'intuition et de hasard. Aujourd'hui, rue Charlemagne à Paris dans la boutique-atelier de Samuel Gassmann, nous avons la joie de l'entendre parler de sa reconversion inattendue vers un un marché de niche, les boutons de manchettes. Samuel est un ancien journaliste spécialisé dans l'art contemporain, il travaillait notamment pour l'émission Metropolis de Arte. En 2008, c'est son dernier documentaire qui le mène sur la piste des boutons de chemises, puis des boutons de manchettes. Une aventure dans laquelle il se plonge sans même se demander s'il allait être capable d'apprendre le savoir-faire. Il dit que c'est la bidouille qu'il aime, c'est pourtant loin d'être un bidouilleur, quand on voit les pièces qu'il crée et fabrique dans les matériaux les plus nobles et les plus rares. Il raconte une histoire dans chaque collection. Nous allons parler évidemment de ce marché de niche, les boutons de manchettes et comment lui et son épouse Donatienne ont fait pour devenir les spécialistes français, vendus dans tous les plus grands magasins dans le monde. Nous allons parler des collections, notamment de la nouvelle, la collection RVB, comment Samuel l'a imaginée et comment elle est traduite dans chacune de ses pièces.
