Roadside Drug Testing Laws in Australia are discriminatory, and despite losing her seat in the 2022 Victorian Election, Fiona Patten is supporting the Legalise Cannabis Victoria Party's bill to create protections for cannabis users. In this episode we discuss the need for the law to be changed, why the Andrews Government essentially ignored the findings of the Inquiry Into Personal Cannabis Use, what civilians can do to lobby their local representatives as well as a brief discussion about decriminalization vs. legalisation. Victoria is the leading state when it comes to cookers and they've turned a fairly ordinary state election into a circus. A superbowl of stupidity. A farce of fuckwits. We look at the results and what the kids have been saying online. So how are they taking the loss? Not well. It's all about the election this week! But we still give you a bit of goss about Pete and Zippy at the end, bless. Enjoy!

The first major election since a wave of green and teal changed the federal map is set for this Saturday. The Australian National University Dictionary Centre has just announced its word of the year is “teal”. Senior researcher Mark Gwynn described it as an “easy choice”. “The colour came to represent a movement of independent and strong female voices taking on the establishment.” Monique Ryan, the member for the Melbourne seat of Kooyong, is the giant slayer of the movement, having defeated former treasurer Josh Frydenberg. “It's fascinating that the now the word ‘teals' is now a noun that everyone recognises,” she says. “That was not the case a year ago.
Victorians head to the ballot box on Saturday and this campaign has been pretty bruising. Premier Daniel Andrews is going for a 3rd term, and while the polls suggest he's on track to stay in power, the state's seemingly endless lockdowns in 2020 and 2021 meant the gloss has well and truly come off. So in this week's Squiz Shortcut, we take a look at the post-COVID vibe in Victoria, why Andrews has earned the name "Teflon Dan", and how the election might play out. Victorians go to the polls on November 26, with the Andrews government seeking a third term. Labor is the clear favourite, but it is under pressure in a number of seats. The premier is a polarising figure, especially (although not only) as a result of the trials Melburnians endured with the prolonged harsh lockdowns during COVID. Victoria will be a fresh test of what we saw in the federal poll – the disillusionment of many voters with the major parties.
The Victorian state election is fast approaching and political parties are actively appealing to voters. In addition to promising funds for the Indian community, major parties are also fielding Indian Australian candidates. As part of its ongoing election coverage, SBS Hindi speaks to Liberal party hopefuls.
