This week's Gospel reading Matthew 5:13-20, speaks of salt and light. Imagine going out for a really good meal- the table is set and you're with great company. You're full of anticipation, ready to enjoy the food brought to the table. But precisely as the dishes are delivered, the waiter blows out the candles on your table. You're plunged into darkness. The food is placed on the table and you begin (with difficulty) to eat. It's then that you discover not only can you not see the good food- it's tasteless, with no seasoning at all. How might your experience of the meal be affected? Now consider our human life and that of others being like this same meal. Although God made a world that is good, we live in darkness- surrounded by sin and its effects. How can we shine God's light in this context? How about the food? Could we add the goodness of a sprinkle of God's Word to every day? How might this change the experiences of ourselves and those around us? Let's pray this week to be someone who reflects the light and goodness of God to others, working with God to bring His Kingdom more fully into our world. Amen. The message was presented by Pr. John 9 : 1 - 38 1 Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. 2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" 3 Jesus answered, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him. 4 I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world." 6 When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. 7 And He said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing. 8 Therefore the neighbors and those who previously had seen that he was blind said, "Is not this he who sat and begged?" 9 Some said, "This is he." Others said, "He is like him." He said, "I am he." Glory be to God forever.

Sermon on Luke 11:33-36
ヨハネの手紙シリーズパート2、「キリストの光のうちを歩む 」1月18日|The Letter of John - , part 2 "Walking in the Light of Christ", Jan 18th
The Feast of Theophany reminds each of us that Christ has revealed Himself to us. He brought His Light into the world, so we are no longer living in darkness. When light shines in the darkness, we no longer have anything to fear. Christ has shined His Light so that we could follow the Light into heaven.
Msgr. Esseff reflects on the meaning of the "Epiphany" and how we can manifest the light of Christ to the world. He shares how the saints are the stars that show us the way. From the USCCB readings fo the day: Reading 1 Is 60:1-6 Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem! Your light has come, the glory of the Lord shines upon you. See, darkness covers the earth, and thick clouds cover the peoples; but upon you the LORD shines, and over you appears his glory. Nations shall walk by your light, and kings by your shining radiance. Raise your eyes and look about; they all gather and come to you: your sons come from afar, and your daughters in the arms of their nurses. Then you shall be radiant at what you see, your heart shall throb and overflow, for the riches of the sea shall be emptied out before you, the wealth of nations shall be brought to you. Caravans of camels shall fill you, dromedaries from Midian and Ephah; all from Sheba shall come bearing gold and frankincense, and proclaiming the praises of the LORD. In this Christmas Eve message, we explore how God revealed Himself through light—from creation in Genesis to the birth of Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Light of the world, and through Him, the torch of faith has been passed to us. This message calls us to carry that light with love, purpose, and faith, beginning in our homes and shining into a world in need of hope.
PASSAGE: Isaiah 9:2 OUTLINE: 1. Our Deep Darkness 2. His Divine Light The post Christmas Hymn Sing | The Great Light of Christ first appeared on Redeemer Bible Church.
#catholic #sspx #adventThere are two comings of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the first at Christmas and the second at the Last Judgment.St. Paul speaks of the Last Judgment today when he says: “pass no judgment before the time, until the Lord comes, Who will both bring to light the things hidden in darkness and make manifest the counsels of hearts.”We know this is one of the characteristics of the Last Judgment: everything will be revealed. But this is also one of the characteristics of the First Coming of Our Lord: His first coming brought to light many things that were hidden before.Recall what the old man Simeon said in prophecy to Our Lady, in the very same chapter as today's Gospel, when He says that Our Lord will be a light of revelation to the Gentiles. The first chapter of St. John's Gospel, which we read at the end of every Mass, also speaks of Our Lord as the light in His first coming, saying that He is “the true light, which enlighteneth every man that cometh into this world”.And in this time of Advent, the Church quotes for us this prophetical passage from Isaias: “The people that sat in darkness, hath seen great light: and to them that sat in the region of the shadow of death, light is sprung up” (Is. 9:2). St. Matthew tells us that this prophecy was fulfilled by the preaching of Our Lord. The light that Our Lord brought to the world with His first Coming is very great:He showed us clearly what our purpose is, what we are made for.He taught us the moral law in a much clearer way than the Old Testament did. Recall the Sermon on the Mount, which shines a new light on the Ten Commandments. By doing this, He gave us a much clearer idea of what is good and what is evil, what is sinful and what is not.Our Lord showed us clearly the meaning of suffering and how the Cross is a valuable part of our life, if we bear it with humility and resignation. Our Lord showed us clearly the way that we must live our lives, if we are to fulfill our God-given purpose. Our Lord gave us the fullness of revelation, all of the supernatural truths that we need to know in order to unite ourselves with God.St. John says of Our Lord that “His life was the light of men”. His life and His teaching changed the course of the world simply because Our Lord brought a light into this world that it had never seen before and which can never be exceeded. But, as you know, the reaction to this light was very different on the part of those who received it in Our Lord's lifetime. When you are in a dark room for some time and then you go outside, the light is too bright for your eyes. There are three things that you can do:Go back inside and return to the darkness.Close your eyes to the light and try to walk in a state of blindness.Allow your eyes to hurt for a little while until they are able to adjust to the brightness. These represent the three types of reactions to Our Lord's light both in His time and ours.
The holiday season often arrives with full calendars, endless to-do lists, and mounting expectations that leave many feeling exhausted before the celebrations even begin. Yet Scripture reminds us that even in the midst of busyness, we are called to shine the light of Christ. Isaiah 60:1 invites believers to arise and shine because God’s glory is upon us. When we slow down, choose kindness, and bless others selflessly, we reflect Jesus to a world that desperately needs His light. This season is not about perfection or productivity—it’s about people, presence, and pointing hearts back to Christ. Main Takeaways You’ll learn why shining the light of Christ matters even more during busy holiday seasons. Discover how slowing down and being present helps reflect Jesus’ love to others. Understand why kindness is one of the most powerful ways to witness for Christ. Reflect on how blessing those who cannot repay us mirrors the heart of Jesus. Be encouraged to keep Christ—not busyness or perfection—at the center of the season. When my schedule feels overwhelming, remind me that my calling is to shine the light of Christ through love, kindness, and presence. St. Paul gives further instructions to his brothers in Christ in Thessalonica as to what their lives should look like as Christians waiting for the Last Day. Hearers respect and esteem their pastors as those men work diligently to proclaim the Gospel. Peace reigns in the congregation as those who are weak and faint are treated with patience. Forgiveness trumps vengeance. Joy, prayer, and thanksgiving abound. All of these gifts characterize Christian congregations as the Holy Spirit accomplishes His will for the Church through the word of Jesus Christ. Rev. Brian Flamme, pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Roswell, NM, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study 1 Thessalonians 5:12-22. To learn more about Immanuel in Roswell, visit immanuelroswell.org. “Yearning for the Day of Christ's Returning” is a mini-series on Sharper Iron that studies St. Paul's two epistles to the Thessalonians. Although Paul's time in Thessalonica was brief, he had great affection for the Christians there. His two letters to the Thessalonians show us the joy that God gives us together in the Church and encourage us to live faithfully in expectation of Jesus' coming on the Last Day. Sharper Iron, hosted by Rev. Timothy Appel, looks at the text of Holy Scripture both in its broad context and its narrow detail, all for the sake of proclaiming Christ crucified and risen for sinners. Two pastors engage with God's Word to sharpen not only their own faith and knowledge, but the faith and knowledge of all who listen. Submit comments or questions to: listener@kfuo.org

Let it be Done For You According to Your Faith: Seeing Through the Light of Christ Today's Homily draws on the day's readings . . . Isaiah's prophecy, . . . . . . the psalm “The Lord is my light and my salvation,” and Matthew's account of Jesus healing two blind men . . . to explore the deep spiritual meaning of sight, hearing, and faith. Physical blindness and deafness point to humanity's deeper moral and spiritual inability to see and hear God. Isaiah shows that the coming of the Lord heals not only physical affliction, but the blindness and deafness of a world clouded by injustice, darkness, and moral confusion. In the Gospel, the two blind men follow Jesus not by sight but by attentive listening. Jesus does not stop for them immediately; instead, they must follow Him into “the house,” symbolizing both the Church on earth and the Father's house in heaven. Only there does Jesus question their faith and open their eyes. Why that way? Hear more within the Homily. The Homily emphasizes that discipleship begins not with seeing but with hearing, and that true healing requires not only need, but faith in Christ's goodness and power. Ultimately, in the Church . . . where Christ is present . . . we behold His face and receive the light that dispels our spiritual darkness. In this sermon on Isaiah 9:1–5, we’re reminded that Jesus Christ is the promised child and great light who dawns upon a people living in deep darkness—whether national, societal, or personal. We consider five glorious effects of this gospel light in the lives of those who embrace Christ: multiplication of life, irrepressible joy, heartfelt […]
Even in our darkness, we have hope that the sun will come up soon and it will be light again. We light up the Christmas tree and we light up our houses. Light gives us hope in the midst of a dark world. Isaiah gives us that kind of hope. He spoke of the returning Messiah, one who would come to lighten our burdens, to right the wrongs, to restore all things to the way they were meant to be. This Messiah would be for everyone-Jews and Gentiles.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sermons-from-my-heart--2423678/support.

Episode 94“Spooky season” isn't just a time of year, it's a reflection of the world we live in. Darkness isn't limited to October; it shows up in the brokenness, tragedy, and fear that surround us all year long. In this heartfelt conversation, we explore what it means to shine the light of Christ in every season, not just when the culture celebrates the shadows. We'll look at Ephesians 5:8 to learn how to live as children of light; not retreating in fear, but advancing in faith. We'll unpack biblical principles for navigating dark times with hope: be set apart without being absent, replace fear with faith, guard against darkness, and use every opportunity for witness. You'll also hear practical ways to bring light into your neighborhood and home; from opening your door in hospitality, to praying over your streets, and leading your family in devotion. Whether you're navigating Halloween, headlines, or the everyday weight of a dark world, this episode will remind you: the world needs to see the light of Christ shining brighter than ever.
