Do you often say "I avoid confrontation!" as a personality trait? If so, you're in luck! This episode aims to change the perspective of confrontation, the difference between confrontation and conflict, and navigating how to communicate gently but firmly.
Today's episode is a pep-talk style episode where we keep it short, sweet, and to the point. We're talking all things big confidence and how to switch the perspective from feeling confident to being confident in your actions.
Today's episode is a very narrative explanation on how I avoid taking things personally, how to communicate about it when people do take a swing at you, and how boundaries is the root of all the things we do here. I'd love to hear your takeaways over on Instagram here!
Today's episode is all about my lessons learned from taking a break from the podcast last week, the reminder we all need about rest, and how to change your perspective about how your actions impact those around you. as always, the discussion continues over on instagram!
Guys, I can't believe I have the absolute honor to bring back my friend, colleague, and professional growing-through-it BADASS Jennifer Lusinger, LCSW, to the podcast! First and foremost - please go check out what Jenn is up to! Her website and contact info can be found here. We mention a few products that have helped us be therapreneurs along the way. If you are a therapist and interested in learning more, click here, here, and here! Lastly, today's episode is a realistic look at how your long-term dreams and goals can actually take shape, change over time, and require so much diligence in believing in yourself.
Today's episode is a shift from our previous few weeks that were capitalizing on all the energy and buzzwords that surround the holiday and new year season. This week, I wanted to get intentional about creating space for the bad stuff - aka negative thoughts, feelings, and memories, and how to acknowledge them without personifying them always! I mention a good friend of the podcast, Dr. Meghan Powell, and her amazing work on journaling in today's episode. Click here for her journaling mojo! As always, therapy is a vital and necessary resource to tap into, especially when you notice you're "getting stuck" around certain things that can be hard to deal with. Use a resource like Psychology Today to match with a therapist in your area and use a filter to get a match who takes your insurance! Want a little bit more depth? Mental Health Match is like a dating app but for clients and therapists to connect. Need a more affordable option? OpenPath helps clients find affordable therapy based on financial need.
Today's episode is a spicy discussion about the difference between building momentum and finding motivation to work towards our goals or intentions that we have set for ourselves in life or in the new year! Head over to Instagram to let me know what you thought of today's episode and how you're going to harness momentum instead of chasing motivation!
OH I MADE THE TITLE RHYME so I'm going to sit here in this moment a little longer -- Ok. We're good now. Welcome to our LAST EPISODE!!! of 2021. Today we're wrapping up this mini-segment on actions and goals and values by talking about intentions (words, phrases, etc) that will help tie us to values and keep us motivated to continue to push forward, even on the dark days. Credit where credit is due - Dr. Meghan Powell (aka friend and guest of the show) was the inspiration for today's episode. You can get on her journal email list here! and check out our podcast here!
Today is episode 100 -- so first off, THANK YOU. Thank you for showing up, for listening, and for laughing with me as we bloom where we are planted and grow through what we go through. I cannot say thank you enough for all of the relationships (both known and unknown) that the podcast has provided to me. Secondly, today's episode is all about shifting your perspective for future goal-setting to include a more values-oriented approach to not only goal-setting, but decision making and boundary setting as well. I mention several previous episodes of the podcast. You can find those here, here, and here. The link to the free values worksheet can be found here.
Today's episode is a passionate, fiery discussion about leaving behind old traditions that no longer serve you in pursuit of traditions that truly light your soul on fire and bring you joy. We're really getting into dissecting the thought of doing something "just because that's the way it has always been done" (spoiler alert: I can't stand that phrase.)
Today's episode continues in our theme of holiday prep as we look to prioritize our own needs and happiness during a season in which we are expected to give and give to others without thought. Yes, we touch a little bit on boundaries this episode -- how could we not?! But we also talk about not taking responsibility for other peoples' feelings, owning our decisions, and creating space for our own needs for joy during a "busy" season. Brené Brown on guilt versus shame: https://youtu.be/RSrXxqKfYwI
Have you ever caught yourself saying "everything is falling apart! nothing is working out for me!" and chalking that up as a big fat failure? Because I definitely have and let me tell you, that narrative isn't serving anyone. Maybe, just maybe, your missteps aren't failures. Maybe they're giant red flags that you aren't aligned on your desired path and that you need to make some changes! Today's episode is focused on breaking down this concept to help you shift your perspective and break the societal molds to find the mold where you fit consistently because it's YOUR OWN.
Today's episode is a reminder to put yourself first and prioritize your own needs, even if you're using basic concepts like gratitude! Today I'm talking tips on how to be more intentional with gratitude during the general holiday season, the importance of setting boundaries, and how to use your support person as the boundary enforcer when you need one! Take time to care for yourself this week, friends.
Today's episode is a twist on boundary setting - we are talking about how to set boundaries for ourselves to take time & rest. Especially as we move into the holiday season, it's important to remember that being a martyr is not a good look and we need to prioritize our own needs. Sometimes, that starts with setting a boundary within our own selves.
Today's episode is a short and sweet wrap up to our mini-series focused on the emotional impact of goals, the downsides and sacrifices to chasing dreams in alignment, and finally, how to actually do what you set out to do. Today I'm stressing the importance of saying yes to discover your no's, failing so you know what success is, and overcoming the doubt to discover the courage that exists in you to try.
I don't think y'all are even ready to bear witness to this amazing conversation! I asked Meghan, aka @drmeggymarie on instagram to join me for today's podcast to talk about goals, the ugly side of dreaming big, and so much more. We referenced SO many magical episodes of Meghan's during today's episode. Keep Going or Quit episode HERE. Redefining productivity episode HERE. Doing Your Best/Avoiding Burnout HERE. Of course, check out Meg's website, email list, and podcast, all over on www.meggymarie.com!
Today's episode is aimed to get you emotionally connected to your goals by digging deeper into your values, morals, and gut feelings to see if your goals from a year, five years, or even five days ago are STILL aligned with you now. Don't forget - it's also always ok to change your mind, especially if things are creating a physical or mental health concern for you! No goal is worth sacrificing your health, happiness, and overall wellness! Episode on sabotaging your own goals here. Episode on setting SMART goals here.
Today's episode is dissecting the phrase "choose joy" to find something that feels more authentic to our feelings! Because, first off, your feelings are valid. Secondly, choosing to be joyful can feel deeply uncomfortable when we have so many other emotions going on! So today is all about combining the need for finding and creating our own joy and happiness, as well as honoring our other feelings or experiences in their own right! I mentioned a previous episode on the Enneagram in today's show -- you can find that HERE.
Today's episode is a little unconventional in the conversation about gratitude. We're sharing some of the research from Brene Brown's The Gifts of Imperfection (here!) about gratitude, joy, and vulnerability. Yes, being vulnerable is included in today's podcast episode! When we choose to be vulnerable, open up to others, and share the things or experiences we are grateful for, it allows for an opportunity for an action (deeper connection, inspiration, or chain reaction!) Quote by my friend, Cliff - "Intention without expectation leads to opportunity." To tack onto that -- intention and action without expectation of outcome LEADS to opportunity. We have to have the intent, the ability to follow through, and the lack of expectation in order to move forward!
Another amazing episode brought to you via inspiration from Brene Brown's book, The Gifts of Imperfection. Support local bookstores and buy it here! I also reference the book that hit me in the gut more than any, Untamed by Glennon Doyle. Support local and buy it here! And of course, as always, if anything we talk about hits ya hard, go get you a therapist and work through that shit! I also reference the episode we did a few months back on Making Decisions in Alignment. Revisit that episode HERE!
Today I'm a little tired, fiery, and ready to rant about enjoying your creative outlets or hobbies for what they are -- and not always trying to use them for financial gain. In usual Carleigh fashion, I referenced our self care episode as part of this rant. You can listen or re-listen to that episode HERE.
Today's episode is gut-wrenching in what I can only describe as "the best way." If you struggle with perfectionism or label yourself as a perfectionist, this episode is for you! The majority of today's information in the podcast comes from Brene Brown's The Gift of Imperfections which can be found HERE. I also reference her podcast, Unlocking Us, that can be found exclusively on Spotify. Listen here! And if you want to hear me ramble about my own thoughts about authenticity, you can go back and listen to Episode 59 or listen here.
Listen, friends. It is possible to speak your hard truths, hard emotions, hard LIFE while also being honest and kind. That's where I had the inspiration for today's episode - to share some tips I've learned along the way in my journey of self-growth and becoming a therapist! I referenced some of our past episodes on communication. You can find those here, here, & here.
Today is a FIESTY pep-talk designed to get you thinking about your thoughts. We're chasing away negative self-talk in the interest of living our best lives possible. We are validating and celebrating our own wins to help increase confidence and positive self-image. We are dismantling the shitty beliefs we've been handed in favor of recognizing our strengths.
Today's episode is a sassy take on the TikTok trend of "is it really ___ or are you just ___". Yes, I'm a millennial quoting TikToks... let's move on. We're talking all things indecisiveness, getting to the root of why we can't make a decision, and then learning some tips on how to battle it for ourselves. I reference a few past episodes in today's show: People Pleasing episode - click here Self-Esteem episode - click here Other People's Opinions episode - click here
Today we are getting real about the ugly side of being self-aware, and tips on how to avoid the negative self-talk spiral that sometimes accompanies our journey through self-awareness! On today's episode, I mentioned an episode where I did resources about mental health. You can find that episode if you click HERE.
Taking some inspiration from one of my favorite people on the earth, Glennon Doyle (her book Untamed can be found here!) we are talking about the human emotions and not turning that into an identity of "I am a mess." I also touch a little on how the "push push push" and "consistency" messages can contribute to feelings of overwhelm and burn out, and how to avoid tying them in to the identity of feeling like a mess. Because y'all -- we are all human, we all have feelings.
Today I'm feeling sleepy and ALSO FIESTY about making mistakes! I share personal examples of how I've moved from negative self-talk regarding my mistakes to channeling my inner growth spurt & looking at each mistake as a humbling and grateful learning opportunity.
Today we're talking all things burnout -- and not in the "we're giving you a pizza party at work because we won't pay you or fix the issue" burnout. We're talking about when your physical & mental health takes a dive because you've been pushing yourself too hard for too long. And we have a giveaway! Make sure you head over to instagram to enter this week's giveaway shared at the end of the episode! Click here to view the post!

Ok, the title sounds weird ... but hear me out on this one, I think this episode is crazy relatable and speaks to the inner critic in all of us who thinks that "I'm fine, everything is fine." We talk about sunburns, how emotional and mental healing mimics the healing process of a sunburn, and my thoughts on the taboo talk of using therapy, medication, and literally any other means necessary to heal yourself from whatever is ailing you.
Today's short & sweet pep talk episode is all about being in the present -- both for the human connections and your mental health. I share about how anxiety, ADHD, and how you don't have to let them control your brain and miss out on being present! I referenced an episode on anxiety techniques in today's episode -- you can find that here!
Today's episode is a vulnerable, from-the-heart conversation about how self-doubt and negative self-talk show up in my life, how they impact my interpersonal relationships, and how I'm showing up right now for myself as I navigate through this season.
