Hey girl, hey!
Paul Mort joins James Smith for a no-holds-barred conversation on work-life balance, building a business you don't want to escape, and why most people are chasing a version of freedom they haven't earned yet. A two-time Master Coach of the Year, bestselling author, and podcast host, Paul Mort makes the case that work-life balance isn't a time problem or a workload problem; it's a clarity problem, and you can't hit a target you can't see.
John continues his conversation with Kelly Chase. They discuss how saying "no" can create better opportunities and Kelly's personal faith journey, from being "spiritual but not religious" to developing a deeper relationship with God, and how it has shifted her mindset, habits, and work. In Part 1, Kelly talked about her experience on Netflix's "Love Is Blind," the emotional struggles that came after the show aired, dealing with online hate, people pleasing, anxiety, and learning how to rebuild her life and mindset. You are important, and you're worthy of whatever you want to create. Your story matters too." "If it's not in perfect alignment with who you are and where you want to be, say no." "Rather than viewing them (people in the same business or industry as you) as competition, view them as collaborators." "We just can't shame people for who they are. We have to accept them for who they are, and we can't make someone think a different way, or make someone show up a different way, or believe a certain way as you do. But you can inspire them through your actions without forcing it down someone's throat." "At the end of the day, it's having radical faith that the thing is already here, it's happening, what you're desiring, that or something even better. Maybe you do have to go through a hard and challenging time, but at the other end, there's purpose after pain." "Success is being happy and grateful with where you're at, because if you can't be happy right now, you're not going to be happy at $5 million or $20 million, or with five kids and a house in Vermont." "We can create our own beliefs and our own stories. That's what helps us get through and create our own reality." How do you react to being misunderstood? It's pretty rough, right? In this episode of Sunday Sanctuary, Petra Bagust catches up with punk rocker turned Anglican priest, Rev. Spanky Moore, who introduces Petra to an "MRI of the soul" called The Litany of Humility. Sacred texts include works from Eddie Izzard, Nina Simone, Michael Leunig and more. Later in the episode, Petra talks to therapist and author Shirley Pastiroff about where the pain of being misunderstood comes from, and whether seeking to be understood is always the best idea.... Beyond the Sessions is answering YOUR parenting questions! In this episode, Dr. Rebecca Hershberg and I talk about what to do when your child goes from calm to meltdown in what feels like seconds, especially during everyday moments like turning off the TV, leaving the park, or cleaning up. Together we explore: Why going from "0 to 60" is actually more common than you think, especially for sensitive kids. How setting and holding limits can still be the right thing to do, even when it leads to a meltdown. The mindset shift that can help you feel less frustrated when big reactions happen. The role of transitions and why they can feel so much harder for kids than they do for adults. Practical ways to anticipate and soften tough moments before they escalate. How things like hunger, fatigue, and overwhelm can make reactions bigger and faster. Simple strategies like giving warnings, breaking tasks into smaller steps, and joining your child in the process. Why slowing down and pausing can sometimes be more effective than escalating your response. This episode will help you better understand why your child's reactions can feel so sudden and intense, and how to respond in a way that keeps you grounded, holds your boundaries, and supports your child through those big feelings. Beyond the Sessions is answering YOUR parenting questions! In this episode, Dr. Rebecca Hershberg and I talk about... - What a time-in actually is and how it's different from a time-out. - How to tell if your child's behavior is coming from dysregulation, a skill gap, or deliberate behavior. - How to know which discipline tools will work best in each unique situation. - The difference between co-regulating during a meltdown and teaching a behavioral boundary (and how to know when to use each). - How to use time-outs as a teaching tool, not a punishment. - How developmental stages affect behaviors like hitting, tantrums, and defiance—and what realistic expectations to set. - Why trying to find the "perfect parenting script" often makes discipline harder. - The one question to ask yourself that will help you decide what to do in the moment. If you've ever found yourself wondering whether you should comfort your child, correct the behavior, or step away entirely, this episode will help you zoom out, understand what's really going on underneath the behavior, and respond more intentionally. It has been over two years since FIDE implemented major changes to its rating system aimed at combating rating deflation. But are those changes actually working? My guest, Vlad Ghita, joins me to dig into the data. Vlad is a Romanian arbiter, instructor, and chess enthusiast with a master's degree in physics. In his new e-book, The Rating Revolution, he takes a rigorous, data-driven look at how the global rating system is functioning—and where it may still be falling short. We discuss: What Vlad calls the “participation paradox” Which countries may be the most underrated How age impacts rating expectations Why some players feel stuck despite improving Is the US rating system functioning more effectively than FIDE? As discussed in the episode, many of these issues stem from structural imbalances in the rating pool—something Vlad illustrates through extensive analysis of nearly one million games . In our conversation (and in his book), Vlad not only identifies problems but also proposes thoughtful solutions. LESSON 359God's Answer Is Some Form Of Peace. All Pain Is Healed; All Misery Replaced With Joy. All Prison Doors Are OpenedAnd All Sin Is Understood As Merely A Mistake.Father, today we will forgive Your world, and let creation be Your Own. We have misunderstood all things. But we have not made sinners of the holy Sons of God. What You created sinless so abides forever and forever. Such are we. And we rejoice to learn that we have made mistakes which have no real effects on us. Sin is impossible, and on this fact forgiveness rests upon a certain base more solid than the shadow world we see. Help us forgive, for we would be redeemed. Help us forgive, for we would be at peace.- Jesus Christ in ACIM

Welcome to a special episode of the AlzAuthors podcast, part of our first-ever Film Festival! Celebrating our 10th anniversary, host Marianne Sciucco sits down with acclaimed arts educator, author, and filmmaker Mary Crescenzo to explore the transformative role of the arts in dementia care. In this heartfelt conversation, Mary shares her journey from early experiences in nursing homes to the creation of her poetic play-turned-film, "Planet A." We discuss her innovative, age-blind casting, the real-life stories inspiring her work, and practical strategies caregivers can use to bring arts engagement into dementia care—at home or in care facilities. Whether you're navigating Alzheimer's in your family, working in dementia care, or seeking creative approaches to foster dignity and connection, this episode is filled with inspiring insights and actionable tips. Key Topics Covered: Dementia Care & the Arts: Mary describes how music, visual art, dance, storytelling, and poetry can spark joy, communication, and connection for people living with dementia. How the Arts Can Reduce Isolation: Real examples showing that engaging in the arts can counteract boredom, boost mood, and foster community in care settings.Art Activities for Caregivers: Practical advice and encouragement for caregivers to use arts engagement at home—even if you don't see yourself as an artist!Readings from the Film: Moving excerpts from Mary's poetry, capturing the emotional landscape of people living with dementia and their caregivers. Quotes: “Everyone should be engaged in the arts to whatever level, because it's so beneficial to heart and mind and life.” – Mary Crescenzo“Boredom is huge. People decline when they're bored. But you give them something creative, they light up.” – Marianne Sciucco“You don't have to be an artist to make a difference – just pick up a pencil, sing together, or sway to music.” - Mary Crescenzo Takeaways: Try simple creative activities—drawing, music, singing, storytelling—regularly, not just once.Don't let fear or “not being an artist” stop you. The benefits are in doing, not perfection.Engaging in the arts brings meaning, dignity, and even joy to those living with dementia. The arts can transform not only the person with dementia but also relieve and uplift caregivers.Seek out support, community, and inspiration—you are not alone! Can I be afraid, when Your eternal promise goes with me? Surrounding me is perfect sinlessness. What can I fear, when You created me in holiness as perfect as Your Own?God's grace suffices us in everything that He would have us do. LESSON 347Anger Must Come From Judgment.Judgment Is The Weapon I Would Use Against Myself,To Keep The Miracle Away From Me.Father, I want what goes against my will, and do not want what is my will to have. Straighten my mind, my Father. It is sick. But You have offered freedom, and I choose to claim Your gift today. And so I give all judgment to the One You gave to me to judge for me. He sees what I behold, and yet He knows the truth. He looks on pain, and yet He understands it is not real, and in His understanding it is healed. He gives the miracles my dreams would hide from my awareness. Let Him judge today. I do not know my will, but He is sure it is Your Own. What is the pinnacle we're trying to reach, and how will we tell when we achieve it?This is a big, big question, and feels in some ways impossible to answer. But I'm going to try. Because if we want to craft excellent novels, we need to know what we're aiming for so we can recognize when we reach it and spot when we're going off course.Come journey with me to discover what excellent stories truly do. LESSON 323I Gladly Make The “Sacrifice” Of Fear. Here is the only “sacrifice” You ask of Your beloved Son; You ask him to give up all suffering, all sense of loss and sadness, all anxiety and doubt, and freely let Your Love come streaming in to his awareness, healing him of pain, and giving him Your Own eternal joy. Such is the “sacrifice” You ask of me, and one I gladly make; the only “cost” of restoration of Your memory to me, for the salvation of the world. And as we pay the debt we owe to truth, - a debt that merely is the letting go of self-deceptions and of images we worshipped falsely - truth returns to us in wholeness and in joy. We are deceived no longer. Love has now returned to our awareness. And we are at peace again, for fear has gone and only love remains.- Jesus Christ in ACIM

Lesson 289The Past Is Over. It Can Touch Me Not.Unless the past is over in my mind, the real world must escape my sight. For I am really looking nowhere; seeing but what is not there. How can I then perceive the world forgiveness offers? This the past was made to hide, for this the world that can be looked on only now. It has no past. For what can be forgiven but the past, and if it is forgiven it is gone.Father, let me not look upon a past that is not there. For You have offered me Your Own replacement, in a present world the past has left untouched and free of sin. Here is the end of guilt. And here am I made ready for Your final step. Shall I demand that You wait longer for Your Son to find the loveliness You planned to be the end of all his dreams and all his pain?
Not every message, voice, or feeling we experience is from God. In our daily prayer and devotional, the apostle John warns believers to test the spirits because our emotions, cultural influences, or even spiritual opposition can lead us astray. God’s Spirit always aligns with His Word, glorifies Jesus, and produces peace and holiness in our hearts. When you face decisions or conflicting messages, take time to pray for discernment and measure everything against Scripture. If what you sense points you closer to Christ and aligns with biblical truth, you can move forward with confidence. If it distracts or divides, wait on God’s timing and continue seeking His direction. Discernment takes practice. The more time you spend in God’s Word and in prayer, the more clearly you’ll recognize His voice amid the noise of the world. God has promised to guide you faithfully—trust Him to do it in His way and His time. Today's Bible Reading: “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God… This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God…”— 1 John 4:1–3 (NIV) Key Takeaways Test every spirit. God’s truth never contradicts His Word. Keep Jesus central. The Holy Spirit’s leading always exalts Christ. Check the fruit. True guidance produces love, joy, peace, patience, and self-control. Wait on God’s timing. Rushing ahead often leads to confusion. Seek wise counsel. Godly community helps confirm God’s direction. Let’s Pray Dear God,Thank You for reminding me that not every spirit or voice I hear is from You. Forgive me for the times I’ve trusted my emotions or rushed ahead without seeking Your wisdom. Teach me to test the spirits and recognize what is truly from You. Guide me through Your Word and Your Spirit, and help me make choices that glorify Jesus. Guard my heart and mind from confusion, and let Your peace lead me.In Jesus’ name, Amen. Related Articles Looking for more on discernment and hearing God’s voice? STAND Stand in Strength I. The Strength to Stand Begins with God, Not You. “A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.” Ephesians 6:10 NLT “He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.” Isaiah 40:29 NLT … he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” … 2 Corinthians 12:9 NLT II. Our Battle Is Not Against Flesh and Blood. “Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. Ephesians 6:11 NLT “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12 NLT “In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.” Colossians 2:15 NLT III. Standing Requires Surrender. “Not my will, but yours be done” Luke 22:42 “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee _ _from you” James 4:7 “When I am weak, then I am strong” 2 Corinthians 12:10 IV. God Doesn't Call You to Fight Alone—He Calls You to Stand Covered. : “Therefore, put on every piece of God's armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.” Ephesians 6:13 NLT “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still” Exodus 14:14 “No weapon formed against you shall prosper” Isaiah 54:17 “Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world” 1 John 4:4 Are You Standing in God's Strength—or Striving in Your Own? In what areas of your life have you been relying on your own strength instead of surrendering to God's power? How does understanding that our battle is spiritual, not against flesh and blood, change the way you approach challenges and conflicts? Reflect on a time when surrendering to God's will brought you unexpected strength or peace. What did you learn from that experience? What practical steps can you take this week to "put on the full armor of God" and stand firm in His strength? LESSON 270I Will Not Use The Body's Eyes Today.Father, Christ's vision is Your gift to me, and it has power to translate all that the body's eyes behold into the sight of a forgiven world. How glorious and gracious is this world! Yet how much more will I perceive in it than sight can give. The world forgiven signifies Your Son acknowledges his Father, lets his dreams be brought to truth, and waits expectantly the one remaining instant more of time which ends forever, as Your memory returns to him. And now his will is one with Yours. His function now is but Your Own, and every thought except Your Own is gone. The quiet of today will bless our hearts, and through them peace will come to everyone. Christ is our eyes today. And through His sight we offer healing to the world through Him, the holy Son whom God created whole; the holy Son whom God created one.- Jesus Christ in ACIM

LESSON 240Fear Is Not Justified In Any Form.Fear is deception. It attests that you have seen yourself as you could never be, and therefore look upon a world which is impossible. Not one thing in this world is true. It does not matter what the form in which it may appear. It witnesses but to your own illusions of yourself. Let us not be deceived today. We are the Sons of God. There is no fear in us, for we are each a part of Love Itself. How foolish are our fears! Would You allow Your Son to suffer? Give us faith today to recognize Your Son, and set him free. Let us forgive him in Your Name, that we may understand his holiness, and feel the love for him which is Your Own as well.- Jesus Christ in ACIM
LESSON 233I Give My Life To God To Guide Today.Father, I give You all my thoughts today. I would have none of mine. In place of them, give me Your Own. I give You all my acts as well, that I may do Your Will instead of seeking goals which cannot be obtained, and wasting time in vain imaginings. Today I come to You. I will step back and merely follow You. Be You the Guide, and I the follower who questions not the wisdom of the Infinite, nor Love whose tenderness I cannot comprehend, but which is yet Your perfect gift to me.Today we have one Guide to lead us on. And as we walk together, we will give this day to Him with no reserve at all. This is His day. And so it is a day of countless gifts and mercies unto us.- Jesus Christ in ACIM

The White House is defunding USAID, one of the largest distributors of foreign aid, and blaming it on wasteful spending—like a D.E.I musical in Ireland. But as Phil, Skye, and Kaitlyn unpack, the real losers are Christian relief organizations like World Relief and Catholic Charities, which now face devastating budget cuts. Then, it's been over 20 years since the release of Blue Like Jazz, the bestselling book that made faith feel cool. Did it offer a helpful critique of evangelicalism, or was this the beginning of the rise of vibes-based Christianity? Also, New York Times columnist Ross Douthat joins Skye to discuss his new book, Believe: Why Everyone Should Be Religious. He explains why our increasingly secular culture is still drawn to spirituality and why rejecting religious institutions in favor of “DIY faith” may not be the answer. Plus, we have a trailer for a new season of Why I'm Still a Christian. I'm so excited to reuniting with Kelly Brogan for this episode that dives into her latest book, The Reclaimed Woman, and the journey of female reclamation in today's world. Kelly guides us through a thought-provoking examination of how societal narratives shape, and often confine, the feminine experience, revealing how real empowerment lies in rediscovering our true essence beyond societal achievements. She challenges conventional beliefs about fulfillment, exposing the myths sold to women around success and freedom, and instead points to a journey rooted in personal alignment and deep internal awareness. We explore how reclaiming femininity nurtures an environment where both men and women can thrive, discussing the profound effects of owning one's choices, fostering safety, and embracing one's role as a nurturer. Kelly leaves us with practical steps to start this powerful reclamation journey, illuminating the path toward a fulfilled and purpose-driven life.
