Calorie Deficit has been a trending term used on Tiktok lately as the end all-be all for weight loss success. Let's talk about what it actually means, and when it works.A Caloric deficit is where you eat less- but with a strategy behind it. To use this concept correctly, you must understand your BMR (basal metabolic rate). This is the number of energy (aka calories) needed to live, the baseline amount of energy for your body to exist and function per day. There are calculators to estimate this online through a simple Google search, but it won't be 100% exact, close enough though. You will want to consider the calories you are burning for any activity you do for the day (cleaning, walking, gym time, work, etc.), and the calories from your BMR to find the number of calories you need to get from food! When a strategic caloric deficit is introduced, your body can use stored fat (energy) to replace what you didn't eat that day. This is a process that shows results over time, and there may be other health factors at play. We talk all about this in this episode of how to use these numbers to work for the results you are looking for! A new Season of HEALTHY(ish) is going to be your go to podcast! We are bringing on some amazing guests and getting some life changing information and resources for you. Today, to start off Season 2, I wanted to share something that I am very passionate about that I believe that we all need to understand on a deeper level. Especially for someone that has struggled with being a chronic dieter or losing weight. Until we move past the mindset and relationship with food problem, it will always be somewhat of a struggle. Any diet we go on is not fixing the underlying problem of mindset and our relationship with food overall.Addressing the actual problem that is holding us back from those weight loss and health goals is the answer! Two issues to address with the weight loss/ diet culture: Let's be honest, if the commercialized diets actually resulted in weight loss and weight kept off, they would lose you as a customer. So then you become stuck in that dieting cycle. We are so focused on weight loss specifically as a goal. To see that number come off quickly, and most of the time when you see the number decline quickly, it is not a long term solution. Because we are never focused on the process, instead we are focused on the results, and that is not okay. I want to change your mind on this to get you on the path to no longer struggling. Instead of losing weight, we are going to focus on improving our eating habits.To do this we focus on designing your Individual Eating Philosophy and learning to use the number on the scale in a healthy way.
