Did you know, for example, that you should change sponges and loofahs once every four weeks? Yep, using the same sponge for a long time increases your health risks, since wet sponges and loofahs are perfect for bacteria and mold growth. So, today, we'll tell you about five common mistakes almost all of us make every day when showering. All of them are important, but you need to pay special attention to a towel you usually use. Secondly, hot water increases blood flow, which often leads to erythema, inflammations, and rashes. The maximum duration of a shower that is good for your health is about 10 minutes. However, the optimal duration is 7 minutes. The more lather there is, the more superficially active substances there are in a shower gel. It means using the gel is depleting your natural protective oil layer, leading to dryness and roughness of your skin. Properly drying the skin is as important as washing your body correctly. If your towel is very dry, it might harm your skin. Always dry your body with a soft towel, leaving your skin a bit moist. It's pretty challenging to create weight, food, and exercise theories when the inner working of a body is so incredibly unique.The weight loss industry likes to highlight patterns but this truly does us all a disservice because it still creates an assumption that there is a blueprint to follow that will solve our problems and create the results we desire.The only blueprint we really have is that we are all truly unique. Therefore, a weight loss approach will be unique to the person. However, humans are fairly predictable. We spend so much time talking about fat loss and dieting, that most people just expect the other side of getting to their goal as the easy part, which is not true. Stats show that 95% of people gain their weight back within 3-5 years. This would confirm that where people struggle the most- keeping off the weight thus never needing to diet again. This is not talked about enough. Hey loves, this week on The Strong[HER] Way we are talking about losing weight without dieting. Here's what most people don't realize, dieting is all about your thoughts. Whether or not you're dieting has to do with how you think about food, your weight, and what you *think* you should look like, weigh, eat etc. The catch is most of the things we think we should be eating/not eating, what we should/shouldn't weigh comes from the outside world. Meaning it's all kind of made up anyway. Which ultimately means you can choose to make up other rules you'd rather live by instead. As I've shared on the show before, I've gone from not caring at all about what I ate, hated to exercise, but also hated the number on the scale and what my body looked like. I've also stepped on stage as a figure competitor, cared too much about what I ate and what I looked like, over exercised, and still didn't like what my body looked like. The actions had changed, but the mindset was still the same. For the past month, I've been working on losing 8 pounds. I know, I know. This sounds like I'm selling out of the non-diet approach, but actually it's the opposite. I realized, avoiding something doesn't make it go away. I had been avoiding the scale for the past few years. And as long as I didn't get on, I felt fine. I wanted to see what sort of thoughts and feelings were left from the many years of chronic dieting. So I set out to see just that. In this episode, Melissa talks about the link between our emotional state and our tendencies with overeating. It is a fact that most women who have dieted most of their lives, no longer trust their food choices or their bodies, fully disconnected from awareness around their true hunger patterns. Turning to food for comfort and emotional support is a coping mechanism for life and soothing ourselves, that was created from pre-programming or in childhood, and is now being highlighted due to being quarantined and COVID 19.  Melissa shares the reasons why your body is always willing to corroborate with eating right and choosing clean, healthy foods to nourish yourself for a certain dieting period, explaining it’s your mind that needs to believe you’re worthy of the best body in order to treat it and feed it as such.  She gives you four questions that you can write down to ask yourself to evaluate your true state of hunger and emotional wellbeing.   An exercise from Mellissa: You’re going to track your hunger. Sit and write what your hunger is- on a scale of 1-10 write what not being hungry tends to be like. Notice your eating patterns and the time of day that you’re weakest to food. Listen to the full episode,  to learn how to use this quarantine time to your advantage as you put yourself first before everybody else.  You will also learn the right amount of food you need for your specific body to be consuming without overindulging.  What you will learn: Why most women that have dieted don’t know when they’re hungry and how turning to food have become a habit only being highlighted now.  We use food as a coping mechanism from things that are going on in life.  Start a food journal- track your eating habits in the next 2 weeks and recognize times of the day when you’re conditioned to eat. Why you don’t need more willpower or discipline and what you need instead. Melissa explains the in-depth consequences of dieting for a long time.  Why positive thoughts equal positive actions that bring positive results to move forward and succeed. Why most dieters are not connected to their bodies.  The art of eating what you want when you want without overindulging. How our relationship with food stems from conditioning from our formative years- the emotional attachment we have with food.  The big T trauma and small T trauma that helps you form a negative belief system about yourself. These are things that trigger emotional stress when you think of them and drive you towards food. Melissa describes the amount of food your stomach needs. Is your worth tied to your weight?
