Many fat people don't feel at home in the gym. We may want to bring more movement into our lives, but there can be many barriers- unsafe spaces, our own inner critic voice, physical challenges with equipment and instructors not knowing how to work with differently sized bodies, etc. That's why we've got Becky Scott (she/her/hers) on the pod today. We're talking about all aspects of fat-friendly fitness, our personal experiences with exercise, and options for bringing movement and fitness into your life on your terms.Becky Scott found body positivity and fat liberation in her early thirties after a lifetime of self-hate, ‘failed' diets and exercise regimes. Each year we set aside time to recognize the achievements of women across our country and commemorate the contributions they have made to our culture and society. In that vein, we are celebrating two very accomplished women from right here in the Farmington Valley -- Cynthia Crockett, Esq. from the law firm Hersh & Crockett, and Technology Teacher Anya Jensen from The Talcott Mountain Science Center & Academy. They chat with our co-hosts Christine Buhler of The Talcott Mountain Science Center & Academy and Gena Hamilton of Exact Digital Media on how they started; what they learned along the way; on how, as women, the importance of being yourself and finding your voice; and the need for and potential influence of female role models for young girls to help them overcome their preconceptions and barriers to leadership and success in business. ----------------------------------------------------------- Anya Jensen first got involved in engineering when she founded the all-female FIRST Robotics Competition team, The Missfits, in high school. She has since graduated with a degree in Robotics Engineering from Olin College, and worked at Amazon Robotics, Cruise, and with NOAA. She is now an educator with Talcott Mountain Science Center & Academy, where she introduces young learners to technology and engineering. You can read more about the program at tmsc.org or reach out to Anya by emailing her at ajensen@tmsc.org Cynthia I. Crockett, Esq. graduated from Stony Brook University and went on to earn her J.D. from Western New England University School of Law. Attorney Crockett has 27 years experience practicing in the areas of personal injury, worker's compensation and family law. She practices both litigation and mediation. Attorney Crockett owns and manages the law firm Hersh & Crockett in Hartford, Connecticut and practices in courts throughout the State. She attributes her success to the successful results she has obtained for her clients, her fantastic staff and a lifelong desire to help people.

Missfits has a data-driven approach which includes breast height, projection, and how much support they require. All these dimensions impact which bras will make a woman feel her best. We speak about the history of bras, bras in space, and what women around the world prioritize in their bras. Check out their products at MissFits.co Rate, review, and subscribe!
In today's podcast, I want to introduce you to an AMAZING entrepreneur, who is changing how it FEELS to be a woman! Charlotte Chiang is the founder of Missfits, a bra 'matchmaking service'... Seriously, ladies, just like the right life partner, the right bra can change your world! Of course we talk lingerie, the current situation of having most CEOs of companies in that world being male, and so on. But we also touch on feminism (and why it's NOT anti-feminist to wear a bra)... the lies about bra burning... and why we should all be looking to Poland! Today's episode is very much one "for the ladies", but guys can learn so much here too. Breasts have become such a taboo topic, and they really shouldn't be - we ALL (whatever gender you take) need to be more open about them. By being open, we can start to (finally!) acknowledge they come in different shapes and sizes, and they don't all match what we see on porn movies. Hell no! Honorable Mentions (if you can't access these links, try using the Apple Podcasts or Overcast apps) Missfits.co website - Charlotte's company, and where you can find the quiz to matchmake with the best bra for you! Have you ever thought about your life’s calling to do the work you were meant to do? Today on Financial Fluency, I am pleased to have Shirley Harvey with me. Shirley is a writer, illustrator, and artist from the UK now living in Montreal, Canada. For Shirley, drawing and writing were always passions of hers as a child. On this episode, Shirley shared how disappointed and disillusioned she felt after graduating university. She stopped creating and trained to become a homeopath. For her, becoming a homeopath opened her up to a whole new world of working with energy and spirituality. When her husband was offered a job abroad, she knew it was her calling to move and start over. In 2013, Shirley moved to Montreal with her husband and son. When she realized she was unable to practice homeopathic medicine in Canada, she started to draw and write again as a way to discover herself. It was during this time Shirley recounts her marriage was falling apart, and Shirley and her husband decided to divorce. She was a single mom living in the inner-city with no car during the harsh winter months with her son. Shirley had no job and didn’t speak French. She tells me “It was like I was standing on the edge of the cliff, and all my monsters were behind me yelling to jump off.” That moment in her life led her to open her Etsy shop selling prints and self-publishing her books. Shirley has six books out and is currently working on a seventh. She describes her books as children’s books for adults. The books helped her to express and explore her own feelings about her divorce and isolation, but they also helped her connect with her son and his feelings at the time. Shirley plans to ramp up her marketing message and take her books to a book fair in Toronto. Ultimately, Her goal is to get her books into the right hands of the right people. Shirley says she has a gift that allows her to see life in the bigger perspective; she can bring the obscure into layman’s terms with beautiful pictures and poems. Shirley’s Message For so many people, we see the overnight success—not the years of struggle. Follow your dreams, be creative, and come back into alignment with your soul's true purpose. Resources To find out more about Shirley and her books visit her website shirleyharvey.com or you can follow her on social media: Facebook Instagram Bio Shirley writes and illustrates children's books that help connect families. Her work is a mixture of rhyming verse and adorable animal pictures that explore emotions and life circumstances, opening up conversations about more difficult topics while providing comfort and humour parents can share with their children. Although her books are perfect for children aged 6 and up, they are a must for the whole family who want to reconnect with their inner child. British born and raised, she now lives in Montreal with her son and two cats, Bruce and MissFits.
"Every girl has an existing perception of protein and we want to break those conceptions down to build them up again in the right way. Women can find trust in a brand that is all about women." Download this episode Missfits Nutrition is a company, primarily designed for women, offering perfectly portioned protein sachets with added essential nutrients, to make every sweat count. This protein is named The Multitasker, and provides your body with the nutrition it needs to replenish and develop, with an added vitamin and mineral blend to leave you feeling and looking your best. I speak to the Founders Henry Sether and Tara Adlestone, who give an insight into how MissFits Nutrition came about, as well as how important it is for women to adapt their thinking towards exercise, protein and common misconceptions of health and nutrition. For more, visit www.missfitsnutrition.com What this episode has in store for you ‘We wanted to find a brand of protein that women can identify with without being afraid of, so we thought let's come up with something that's empowering and inspiring for a woman to be able to work out in a stronger, fitter and healthier way.' ‘The education pool is key for us - every girl has an existing perception of protein and we have to break those conceptions down to build them back up again in the right way' ‘Ultimately protein is protein, but the type of protein and portion size depend on what benefits you get, which means that each serving should be bespoke for you. Girls starve their body of the right stuff and fall victim to it all the time – They want to look a certain way and fit in, but they are in the wrong mind set.' Tara: I looked at Henry and thought, you can have your protein after the gym without questioning it, but, why can't I? There seems to be nothing for me as a woman - I was afraid it would make me look like Henry (he's a BIG guy!). It is important to educate every single girl up and down the country and across the world, not just about protein post-workout but also about the amount of protein macronutrients they need, which will help them on their way to achieve their body goals.' ‘We are big believers in strong not skinny, and when you're working out you have to get the nutrients right. For the last 10-12 years, protein has been tailored to the 100kg guy. Weight training is amazing, but girls are still worried that by lifting weights they will get bulky, which is why we are bringing it back to the bare necessities of what you really need. The Multitasker is good quality, fast-digesting protein'
