Fitness is her passion. When she was in her teens, She used to read her Dad's Muscle & Fitness magazines and attempt to lift weights and work out in their unfinished basement with a weight bench and some dumbbells. Her mom would take her to Jazzercise classes with her. She struggled with her weight, but it was during those early years that she caught the fitness bug. Before she was a fitness competitor, she played field hockey all through high school and college. While in college, she became a certified aerobics instructor (back when they called it “aerobics” and leotards and leg warmers were all the rage). She also received her personal trainer certification. She taught everything from step aerobics to kickboxing (who remembers Billy Blanks' Tae Bo style?). Then she started running…she ran 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons, some sprint triathlons, two marathons (NYC and Philly), a Warrior Dash and a Tough Mudder. But she wanted more. In the late 90's she discovered fitness competitions (think bodybuilding meets beauty pageant), which involved a fitness routine and posing routine. She took gymnastics lessons as a 25-year-old with a class full of 9-year-old's. It was not her cup of tea. Fast forward to 2012 when she discovered a trainer who was also an IFBB figure pro who was willing to prep her for her first figure competition. Most organizations had eliminated the fitness routine portion and she was ready to finally tackle this challenge. She competed in her first competition in 2012 and continued to compete until this past year when she obtained her pro card — four years in the making! What she loves more than anything is when people say they're inspired by what she has done or motivated to try working out.

Join Travis Sims (The AGC Experience Host) as he takes the rare opportunity of his own podcast to share the importance of diversifying your network with diversity inclusion. Many times people tell me they're networking. When I dig a little deeper, I find out they are meeting with the same 20 people every week. People that look like them, people that think like them, and they think they're networking. When I ask how many women business owners are in their network, how many African American business owners, how many Latino business owners, how many business owners in different generations, how many state wide, national, and international people they're networking with they soon realize they have only begun to network. ~ Travis Sims is a Networking Expert, Motivational Speaker, and Thought Leader committed to helping you become a better person, leader, and networker. Join Travis Sims (The AGC Experience Host) as he takes the rare opportunity of his own podcast to share the importance of neutral politics in business. Tomorrow Tuesday November 3rd 2020 is Election Day in the United States. Tension is high and people are very vocal about their chosen candidate. We've all heard the terminology “Stay Politically Correct.” This is still true in this moment. When you vocally choose a side, it cuts off 50% of your referrability. Staying one sided will could cause the other side to completely boycott you, your business and they can even be vocal to their friends as to why they will no longer do business with you. Now if your political views out way your need for income by all means go ahead. However, most businesses can't afford to make this costly mistake/ ~ Travis Sims is a Networking Expert, Motivational Speaker, and Thought Leader committed to helping you become a better person, leader, and networker. Today Ryan and Guest Host Dave Claxon talk with Juls Tower, extreme athlete, skydiver, and ORM UltraVirus competitor who got into OCR in 2013 with a Warrior Dash. When she first started she hated running, and now she is a Ultra Marathon runner. Juls took 1st for women and 3rd overall the UltraVirus 3 with 55 miles. #006 -Chris has always been fit. Growing up, Chris was a highly regarded track and field athlete and a college football player. After college, he became an accomplished PE instructor and personal trainer. But, it wasn’t until his forties when a run changed his identity forever. In this episode, we talk about Chris’s physical gifts, what drives him during 30-mile Spartan Ultra obstacle course events, how a marathon changed his life forever, and of the 40 Spartan races he ran last year, which one he recommends the most. We also talk about his work teaching PE to special education students, and the special program that ties his races with his students.
I crossed over from Almost Crazy to Crazy when I ran my first Warrior Dash! They are fun and crazy wrapped in mud, obstacles, fuzzy Viking hats, and beer! Worth every dollar, minute, and bit of mud!
Marcia is an OCR athlete, military veteran, and ambassador for several brands. We talked to her about her service and her recovery from an injury.
I first became aware of Max King in 2014 when he won the World Warrior Dash Championship. I realized - after winning my own Warrior Dash in 2012 - that runners are often the best OCR competitors. Before I first interviewed Max, I studied his career and was absolutely amazed by his accomplishments in virtually every discipline there is in the sport of running: Trail races Ultramarathons Cross country 3,000m steeplechase on the track Road marathons Obstacle course races Mountain running If it involves mostly running, Max King is a dominant athlete. And he's not just a finisher - or even a medalist. He's often the ultimate victor, having won world Warrior Dash and mountain running championships and trail and ultramarathon national championships. He's even dabbled in triathlon and adventure races. That's a major reason I asked Max to contribute to our Little Black Book of Recovery & Prevention (9 pro runners shared their favorite injury prevention advice). I wanted to know how such a versatile athlete stayed healthy and prevented injuries. But today, we're discussing something different: how Max King trains.

My guest today is Westley Silvestri, a two-time American Ninja Warrior, a highly decorated and award-winning real estate professional, a Spartan Racer, a Tough Mudder, the creator of ‘Ninja Beach’ in Santa Monica, CA, and he’s also a former golfer and stand-up comedian. Using Westley’s own words, he has “Professional ADD” and wants to do everything...but also do it well! Westley also happens to be one of my primary ninja warrior training partners who has inspired me to push past my abilities and become a stronger and more well-rounded human being. There are few people I’ve met in my life who are more positive, energetic, and encouraging...all while being brutal and relentless all at the same time. In our conversation today Westley and I focus on what it takes to become 1% better every single day. We talk about the hardship he’s faced in his life including waking up one morning to find his roommate dead, and battling a year of depression because of this. And we dig into the idea of being intentional about progress...because it’s not just about “putting in your 10,000 hours,” it’s about WHAT YOU DO with those 10,000 hours that actually counts. Warrior Dash is a fun vacation from more traditional road racing. If you’re bored and need a new challenge, an obstacle race might be just the cure. They’re fun – but you need the right training to prepare yourself for the challenge of completing a difficult obstacle course. With obstacles every few hundred feet on courses that are almost always hilly with uneven terrain, it’s downright difficult to maintain your pace and get in a groove. For most runners, it’s a challenge just to run in between each obstacle! But there are specific ways that you can train to ensure you have a successful race. Make no mistake: whether you’re running a Warrior Dash or Tough Mudder, these aren’t your typical road races. It takes a particular mindset to conquer them. Here’s how.
You're probably wondering “what is OCR?” Its an acronym, it stands for Obstacle Course Race. Ever done one of those? You've heard the different types - Spartan, Tough Mudder, Warrior Dash, Rugged Maniac, and there are many other variations. The obstacles are designed to not just push your physical limitations, but your mental ones as well. Check this podcast out, it will definitely open your eyes to this. The photo is from when I was in the Terrain Race obstacle course in Brooklyn, 2017.

He has participated in many Spartan Races, Battlefrog, Savage Race, and Warrior Dash. Jeff has yet to complete a Tough Mudder, BoneFrog, Green Beret Challenge, and much more but these events are on his list of things to do! Jeff also enjoys other endurance type events like the Hurricane Heat, 12 hour Hurricane Heat, and Gorucks. In addition to OCR/endurance races, Jeff has also participated in running multiple 5, 10 and 15k’s and completed his first Half Marathon this past December in Memphis benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Last year Jeff organized a 3-day ruck event to spread awareness for the Green Beret Foundation. He is a motivational person and hopes to be an inspiration to others not only today but also in the future.

Ben Luke Smith grew up in a small town in Alabama and spent his early years as most kids do, playing youth team sports and riding his bike. Ben describes how a series of very unfortunate events in his life over the past several years has shaped who he is as a man and runner. From being held at gunpoint, to losing his mom and others from cancer, Ben has encountered and overcome many obstacles in life. We talk with Ben about obstacle course racing, such as Tough Mudders, Spartan Races, Rugged Maniac, and Warrior Dash, and how his faith, fitness, and running have helped him continue to recover from PTSD and become stronger and more resilient. Ben has served in the U.S. Air Force since 2010 and encourages listeners to always keep going and never stop. He also reminds runners that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness, and challenges listeners to always lend a helping hand to others. Back in early 2012, Jeff Neal has a genius idea to put on an obstacle race and make millions, or at least thousands. Have you run a Warrior Dash? The Warrior Dash is a part of this fantastic trend of obstacle races, a running race that combines all sorts of physical feats to spice up your run. They will show you that no matter what you look like or how fast you are, you CAN succeed and accomplish things you never thought you could. These obstacles mean a diverse group of people can tackle one goal together at a fun, challenging event that gets you out of your comfort zone.
For the past several years, you’d be hard-pressed to scroll through your Facebook feed, especially in the summertime, without seeing some of your friends posting pictures of themselves at the finish line of a mud run or obstacle race. Events like the Warrior Dash, Spartan Race, and Tough Mudder have become well-known parts of the modern recreational scene. Many of you listening have probably done one yourself. But why exactly have obstacle races, known as OCRs, exploded in popularity in recent times? Why do millions of affluent suburbanites pay as much as $200 to have their bodies bruised and banged and sometimes subjected to extreme cold, electrical shocks, and even tear gas? My guest today has spent the past few years exploring that question and he’s made a documentary sharing the answers he’s found. His name is Scott Keneally and his documentary is called Rise of the Sufferfests. In today's show, Scott and I discuss how the little-known origins of obstacle racing can be traced to a farm in England, how enterprising businessmen turned that idea into a multi-billion dollar industry, and the cultural forces that have provided the soil for obstacle courses to grow so rapidly. We also discuss the criticism levied at obstacle racing and what Scott thinks the future holds for OCRs.
In this episode I talk to Megan and Terry from Warrior Dash. We talk about where Warrior Dash came from, what they're doing now and what they have planned for 2017. Don't forget to get over to overcomeandrun.com and sign up for our mailing list!

This past weekend, the team was in North Carolina, taking a beating in order to reach an all-time total of $100,000 for St Jude's! And they're SO CLOSE! Tune in on Thursday night at 7pm Pacific / 10pm Eastern to hear about the trials and tribulations of the Warrior Dash, but more importantly, how you can help the MissFits team reach a total of $100,000 for kids with cancer, without even having to open your wallet!
