In 1699, eighteen years after La Salle had demonstrated the connection of the Mississippi with the Gulf of Mexico, by passing out at its mouth, Iberville succeeded in entering it from the Gulf. Ascending as far as the junction of Red River, he returned, and proceeded, by way of the Gulf, into Lake Pontchartrain. He formed a settlement and erected a fort, at Biloxi, which he left under the command of his brother Bienville, while he returned to France, to induce others to join the colony. Soon after he left, the new commander ascended the Mississippi as far as the present site of New Orleans. In returning, he met a British vessel of sixteen guns, under the command of Capt. Bard, who enquired the bearings of the great river, intimating that it was his intention to establish a colony upon its banks. Bienville, in reply, directed him to go farther west, and thus induced him to turn about; from which circumstance, the place of their meeting was called “The English Turn,” a name which it retains to this day. Three airmen were ordered to guard the Triangle at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Mississippi in 1980. What they saw, shook them enough to make a pact. For decades they stayed silent, fearing ridicule and damage to their careers. Until now. This is the true testimony from Kris Maddalena's The 13th Squadron.For the first time, Kris tells what happened inside the supposedly empty dormitories: the wardrobe painted black inside and carved with an inverted pentagram, the 1 AM scream that returned like clockwork, chanting from inside the walls, the mysterious fire breakout at a heavy metal concert on base, and the pale figure with a butcher knife that stood beside his bed. Locals have long whispered about everything from Satanic activity to UAP sightings along the Gulf Coast (the The Pascagoula alien abduction happened nearby, and the experiencers were examing on this very base). Pastor Jamal Bryant spoke about Nolan, the mysterious nature of his death, and the fact that the investigators are not being forthright with their information. There was also a touching moment where the congregation joined Nolan's parents in singing happy birthday.

Today would have been Nolan Wells' 19th birthday. There will be a prayer rally held today in Biloxi to honor Nolan's life while the family continues to call for the truth about what happened to their son. Attorney Ben Crump and Pastor Jamal Bryant will attend the rally. We will also be joined by Congressman Ro Khanna to discuss Nolan's story and the story of several other young Black people who have died mysteriously.

There are ninety minutes in the Nolan Wells timeline that nobody has ever fully explained, and they sit right at the center of everything. Nolan was eighteen, a wide receiver at Southwest Mississippi Community College from Ocean Springs, Mississippi. The timeline itself is mostly machine-logged and undisputed. A boat left a dock outside Ocean Springs at 9:56 on the morning of the Fourth of July. The group reached Horn Island by 11:14. The boat left the island at 4:31 that afternoon, passed Fort Bayou near 5:52, reached a dock at 6:06, and was pulled from the water at a launch by 7:19 before heading overland to Biloxi. Between those clean, logged numbers sits the gap. Nolan was last seen on the island around three in the afternoon. Around four, the boat's operator called a towing company to report the boat was taking on water. Investigators haven't publicly explained those ninety minutes. Neither have the friends who were out there. Neither has the family's own legal team. A National Park Service ranger recovered Nolan's body at 8:45 Monday morning off the island's northwestern tip, in the exact patch of water that had turned up nothing during a search the day before. There's a phone left on the dashboard with two competing explanations, an empty photo roll with two competing explanations, and a video that circulated widely with two competing accounts of how it surfaced. Attorney Ben Crump says Nolan's friends had his phone after he was left behind, and that messages had been deleted by the time the family got it back.
