The women at the retreat privately named their valley. We called it their “It”. “IT”... “It” was the thing that knocks them over, makes them angry, or brings tears to their eyes. “It” is the thing that can somehow have more power over our day and our choices. They were honest with themselves and with God while they sat safely on the couches and in their bedrooms at the retreat. Most of us wished that our hard thing wouldn't even be real. We wanted it to go away, or if that couldn't happen, we wanted to HURRY UP and get OVER it! BUT, when we looked at Psalm 23, we saw that the Shepherd didn't snatch the sheep out of the valley. He didn't even rush them along by making them run night and day until they “passed through it”. Rather, we noticed how the Shepherd encouraged the sheep to lie down in the very thick of it. It was 17 years until my father-in-law got his treasured old Ford coupe on the road. At times, he wondered, would this restoration project ever be done? (And, I've found myself asking the same question about my own soul's restoring.) Countless hours of sparks flying from the grinding wheel as it took away what was no longer needed, and what could actually cause more harm... Because, like a cancer that spreads to destroy a body's cells, and like a bitterness that grows to harden a heart... rust could eat away at the steel on his old coupe, if not TENDERLY, YET AGRESSIVELY CARED FOR. I hope that as you listen in to this story, that you will discover hope that YOU are not too far gone (and neither is he or she). And when you feel like restoration might never end, I hope that you take heart... because this soul-restoring is a season, and one thing I am learning is that God is a patient restorer. We identified broken vehicles that kind of remind us of our broken thing...  We imagined the Mechanic walking through the junkyard.. what did He think of all the broken things?  What would He think of my broken thing? We explored the idea of hope for that broken thing... after all, God CAN and DOES RESTORE! BUT... He doesn't always choose to restore the "thing".. So now, as we drive back, the tone will get a little somber.  The heaviness might creep in as we consider the question, "What if God doesn't restore that thing that I want fixed?  Is He still God?  Is He still worthy of being worshiped?" He may not fix the thing, because that thing MIGHT be used to restore MY SOUL! Psalm 23 "He restores MY SOUL"

I didn't want to leave the junkyard. I felt like I didn't have enough time.  I felt like the "work" there wasn't finished yet...like there was more for me to receive from the junkyard. It's kind of a strange analogy, but is it true that I don't spend enough time in the junkyards of life? Typically I want to rush out of the hard times, get a quick fix, and get back to the mountain tops!  I want to be on the other side of pain, I want to be restored...I just don't want the process that is required to get me there. Solomon wrote it, the Beatles sang it..."a time to laugh, a time cry...to everything there is a season..."... and one thing that I am learning is that there are treasures in the seemingly hopeless junkyard seasons. So, with some reluctance, I will attempt to take my time doing the hard work of allowing God to restore me....  I know that He will continue to lead me as I "walk through" it, He will comfort me, guide me and even give me breathers.... will you join me? As you here this clip, you will hear that I will be sharing my brokenness with you, and while my brokenness sure does leak out into so many parts of my life.... it is not all of me.  So, after the little film clip, I will then share simple stories from my real life and my heart at home.  I want you to know that heaviness and happiness can co-exist! In this episode I will share about my role model, my nickname, my 8 brothers that I love so much, and I'll even share my age.  I will also tell you pieces of my journey that led me from dreaming of being a wife and a mom, to using my photography as personal therapy... to comforting you with the comfort that I have received. I will not be sharing how the journey has been easy and glossy, rather I will share with you that there has been discouragement and struggle.  Through the highs and lows, the mountain tops and valleys, the "I want to quit days and the "this is amazing days"...God has graciously given me fresh winds to continue to lead me to take my next right step. So, here I am...a _??_ year old wife and mom who has alot of fun capturing hearts through my camera lenses ...and a girl who is leaning into God for comfort in all her broken places and discovering a beauty that I didn't know before!    And sharing this with you today, is my next right step.
