Send us a Text Message. On this episode Power to the Pleasers host, Vicki Smith interviews with about Emotional Freedom Technique, also known as Tapping or EFT. I share how I was first introduced to EFT as a self care practice during a workshop for therapists who were helping community members following the 2012 Sandy Hook tragedy after 20 children and 6 staff were murdered in an elementary school. Needless to say this was a difficult time for our town and a challenging time for me as both a parent of young children and a therapist for local children and families. I will share how EFT profoundly helped me in my own healing and management of anxiety. I will also share how it continues to help me in supporting my clients in counseling sessions and provides clients with an effective therapeutic tool they can use on their own.Check out Vicki Smith's fantastic podcast, Power to the Pleasers. Summary Not sure how to express what you want in your open relationship as you navigate polyamory, swinging, or some other CNM dynamic? We get down to business talking about how you can ditch people-pleasing so you can feel empowered in expressing yourself without sacrificing your desires or preferences. In this episode, you'll learn about: Why setting boundaries is tough for people who like to please others. Tips for calming down nerves before difficult conversations. Learning to say 'no' nicely and meaning it. Understanding how to handle tough relationship talks in non-monogamous structures. Vicki Smith is a licensed psychotherapist and a coach who specializes in people pleasing and perfectionism. She enjoys working with these issues because she loves seeing people discover their true nature and then share it with the world. Her mission is to help folks not just TALK ABOUT the life they've always wanted, but to actually start LIVING IT OUT! Noteworthy quotes from this episode: [25:54] "Boundaries are scary because first we don't know what we want... and then we feel like there's gonna be conflict." [24:41] “I believe that most of us pleasers white knuckle our way through boundaries and we hope that we really don't have to have a conversation with someone. We hope we can just kind of plop it out there and that person understands and takes it and says, ‘oh, yes, of course.' The thing that keeps us from speaking up is we are afraid of staying in the conversation.” Connect with Vicki Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100075839538976 Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/power.to.the.pleasers/ Website - https://powertothepleasers.com Podcast - https://powertothepleasers.com/podcast/ Connect with Paige Bond Instagram: @paigebondcoaching Facebook: @paigebondcoaching Website: www.paigebond.com Paige Bond hosts the Stubborn Love podcast, is a Licensed Marriage Therapist, and is a Polyamory Relationship Coach. You know I (Shelby) once had a friend who told her at a party that she hated being her friend. Of course, she was drunk and maybe a little bit high...but, Shelby was taken aback by the comment nonetheless. But, when she asked why, her reply was even more astounding...You know what she said...?! I know you're on the edge of you'r seat or, perhaps, you're actually laughing that I even asked why. Her answer was that she is too perfect...Like what the hell, right? She said, you "have two kids, you're a single mom and...SOMEHOW...you always have your shit together! You look good and you always bake homemade cookies for the holiday parties and the staff and I just can't take it!" At first Shelby was angered by the comment. But, then thought, "well you know she's right?! Girl, perfectionism is Shelby's friggen best friend. She keep it all tight...maybe so tight that she doesn't get to experience the joy in the messiness of life. What do you think would happen if you just...let it go and forgave yourself for being Imperfect?" We dive into this question today with our guest, Vicki Smith. And, don't worry, we also get into Trinity's obsession with "fixing" everything! Because this is what often happens when we experience some kind of trauma. For Trinity, as a child, she had to fix all of the problems to ensure her people were safe under tumultuous circumstances and she still does that today. Shelby felt like being perfect was the only way to garner attention and affection from her ever-busy executive parents. She still feels like she has to hustle for love. But, Vicki teaches us that the internal narratives that show up as different parts of ourselves don't know that we've grown up and no longer need to be protected. Vicki is a psychotherapist and a coach who is in private practice for over 20 years as well as a mindfulness meditation teacher who has studies yoga and Buddhism. And, Shelby...take note, Vicki works with people pleasers and perfectionists as a specialty now and was trained in Internal Family Systems or IFS in 2012 and received it as a client before that to let go of the intense anger she felt towards her father, who she now suspects suffered from Borderline Personality Disorder. Because of the IFS approach, she separated herself from his toxicity and forgave him and healed herself. Vicki now uses these tools as foundational in the work she does with her clients. She created Power to the Pleasers in 2020 and her approach is to use the 8 Cs of Self-Leadership (which we discuss in this episode) to help the different parts within each of us know that they no longer need to so vigilantly protect us. People pleasers are usually pretty harsh with themselves and this approach helps them begin to treat themselves with more kindness and shift the pattern of self defeat. In this episode, Vicki teaches us: We all have an "internal counsel" of different parts of ourselves that "govern" our life and keep us safe. The Managers are the first line of defense and how we show our selves to the outer world. The second line of defense are the protectors and the third are the firefighters (which includes any kind of addictive behavior used to take our nervous system way down. Ask our parts what they need from us and what would happen if they stopped protecting us...in truth, we may no longer need protecting, but our parts are unaware that we are no longer in danger. By asking them these questions, we can help our parts relax from their soldier post. when one part is alleviated of their duties, it allows more space for the Self (with a capital "S"). we can treat our parts like we would any close friend. we listen to them, we show them compassion we embrace them, because, in the end, we are really giving these things to ourselves, when we do. While we often look for the quick fix in our current society, working with all of your parts is a beautiful and gradual unfolding on learning new ways to approach life. We are in a war for our children: 1. pray, 2. take action, be vocal, not rude, get involved in the classroom.

The Paul Gough Audio Experience: Business Lessons for Physical Therapists
This episode of the show was recorded on the day that my practice manager Vicki Smith celebrated 10 years of working at the Paul Gough Physio Rooms. In my humble opinion, Vicky is the definition of a front desk SUPERSTAR and in the session, we go back to the fundamentals of communication and look at what is required to become great at the role. I have the physios and admin in the same room and we get onto how to communicate with clients in a way that they can actually understand... dealing with different personality types that we encounter and how PT School is failing clinicians with their failure to consider that communication is just as important as any clinical skill. Enjoy the show and feel free to use this video as a training resource to share with and train your staff. ------ Subscribe to my YouTube Channel for Daily Videos: HERE Check out Paul's Best Selling Books for Physical Therapists: www.paulgough.com/books

Vicki Smith (on 'Sounding' Walk) Interview by Waveney Russ on Radio One 91fm Dunedin
We are back with Season 2! You asked for more mermaid stories and mermaid legends, so that is what we are bringing to you! Mermaid historians, mermaid legends, mermaid books and mermaid authors! Of course, we will also be introducing you to real mermaids from time to time, but we’ll be focusing most on mermaid stories. In this episode, we come full circle and also go back to the beginning. You may remember that in the first two episodes of Season 1, host Laura von Holt told you all about her time at mermaid camp at the world famous Weeki Wachee Springs! If you haven’t listened to those episodes yet, you should! While Laura was at mermaid camp last year, she became very enamored of Vicki Smith, a legendary siren who still performs at Weeki Wachee at age 78. When she returned to mermaid camp in 2018, she was lucky enough to be paired with Vicki, as well as her mermaid friend, Alison (who you met in S1 E1). In 2017, Vicki celebrated her 60th anniversary of swimming at Weeki Wachee. Vicki performed as a Weeki Wachee mermaid from 1957-1961, beginning just days after her high school graduation. Now, she is part of the elite group of “Legendary Sirens” women in their 50s, 60s and 70s who perform monthly at Weeki Wachee Springs. Vicki invited Laura and Alison back to her home to watch the sunset and drink wine on her deck overlooking the crystal clear Weeki Wachee River. Vicki showed them her personal scrapbook and took them through her many memories of performing at Weeki Wachee in the 1950s and 60s. For over 70 years, Weeki Wachee mermaids have trained each other in underwater ballet using underwater air hoses so they can perform dozens of feet underwater. It’s a unique tradition handed down from woman to woman, and a trained eye can see the differences from each teacher & when they began their instruction. Vicki allowed Laura to record her while we looked through the scrapbook, drank wine, and listened to the radio. She talked about about the changes she’s seen in the park, the show, and what it’s like to perform at age 17 and age 78. It’s a long interview, kind of like an oral history, but well worth your time. Some of the mermaids that Vicki swam with are still with us, and some are now gone. But if you settle in with this episode, you’ll feel like you are right there, suspended in time, swimming right along with the Legendary Sirens of Weeki Wachee. The Paul Gough Audio Experience: Business Lessons for Physical Therapists
Vicki (my practice manageress) and many of my clinic staff, contribute heavily to the Mastermind meetings I hold - speaking to my staff is often better than learning from me! This one is another “Q&A” with Vicki as I leave her to answer any and every question from the group about what goes on at my practice and how I grew it. This is as real and authentic as it gets - no questions are off limits (and I'm not even in the room to hear the answers) that is because I am 100% committed to sharing with you every aspect of my business - without fear or reservation. I know the best way to help you is for you to know that everything I am teaching you to do - is what I am doing myself. I have no idea what you will hear on this podcast - but I know that anything and everything that comes out of Vicki's mouth is going to be solid gold. She is the super-star attraction at any of my events and I am blessed to have her run my practice as I fly around the world sharing my message with you all. The Paul Gough Audio Experience: Business Lessons for Physical Therapists
This one is from my most recent UK Mastermind held at my clinic in January… Whenever I hold these events at my clinic I use the opportunity to bring my key-members of staff into the room and let them share their perspective on the things that we do to make the 'Paul Gough Physio Rooms' so profitable. In this one, I brought in Vicki Smith. If you are not familiar with Vicki, she manages the clinic for me (and also gets heavily involved my coaching and mentorship programs). Listen in to hear Vicki talk to the Mastermind Members in the room about tracking numbers, keeping staff accountable, wowing clients - and how to overcome the common objections that she hears on the phone. Enjoy the show - and if you are ready to improve your business skills, go here for details on how to join my program: www.ptprofitacademy.com/mastermind. The Paul Gough Audio Experience: Business Lessons for Physical Therapists
This Audio Experience is an intimate recording of “Vicki” teaching a group of Top UK Physio Business Owners (at a recent Mastermind Event I held at my Clinic in Hartlepool…) Every 3 months I get together with a group of Top Business Owners (invitation only) - and because it's held at my clinic, I take the chance to bring some of my amazing staff into the room and let the questions fly about what we do here day-to-day, and explain how the business operates so well without me… Vicki is my Clinics' Manageress - PLUS, she has the vital role of being one of the people in our “sales” dept. You might hear me call it the “Follow-Up Team” or the “Nurture Team” - but basically, it's sales. There isn't a successful business alive that doesn't have a great sales department - and just because it's healthcare, doesn't mean that we are exempt from needing to sell the value of our services. For most Physiotherapy Businesses - the salesman is the referring DOCTOR. That's fine if you are happy to rely upon Doctor referrals - but if you are wanting to be successful without relying upon Doctors, then knowing how to "sell your value" is something you will need to get VERY good at! No questions are off limits in this recording - and the questions come in thick and fast. Vicki shares a lot of things she's learned from me over the years with a big emphasis on converting more leads to paying patients at higher prices (sales!). Thumbnail image: Here I am with a group of the UK's Premier Physiotherapy Business Owners, Ryan Rieder, Dave O'Sullivan, Gavin Noble, John Prouse and Colin Gordon - at a recent 2 day Mastermind Event I held at my clinic in Hartlepool If you'd like to find out how you can become a part of Paul's US and UK Mastermind, go here: www.ptprofitacademy.com/mastermind-a

When the boss is away - the staff DO NOT get to play!… So last week I was vacation with my kids - I spent 10 days in the beautiful Island of “Tenerife” (South of Spain) and when I am not in the Physio Rooms, it is business as usual… Watch EP42 Here. And that absolutely includes the training that we do to ensure that our assets (my staff), are at the top of their game. Every Wednesday at 9.00am training takes place - with or without me - and given that I was in a sunnier climate last week, Vicki Smith (my practice manageress) jumped into the hot seat to coach the team in my absence… In this Episode, you'll get to watch first hand as Vicki addresses questions from my team - PLUS, a very special guest - top UK Physiotherapy Business Owner Wendy Mcleoud - who dropped by for a VIP day to watch and learn how my organisation is run… We are creating something very special at the Paul Gough Physio Rooms - a place that is as dedicated to it's staff as much as it's patients and we're attracting Physical Therapists from as far afield as Phoenix, Texas, Scotland and Ireland who want to come and spend the day with my team to find out how a modern day physical therapy clinic is run - without the owner having to be there everyday. In this episode you are going to hear Vicki talk about: * “Vetting” the right and wrong clients to ensure that only the GOOD ones arrive in our world… * What it really means when patients cancel because they have a “hairdressers appointment”, why very FEW of our clients actually ever want “exercises”…. * How to question clients BEFORE they arrive to ensure that when they do show up, they show up in the right frame of mind and ready to go all in with what we suggest! * Why the free report should never be spoken about again - once it is sent out… Watch this episode on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0Ap-l0G92c&t=2s
The Paul Gough Audio Experience: Business Lessons for Physical Therapists
In this Episode of the Physical Therapy Business School Podcast I'm joined by a very special guest… …Her name is “Vicki Smith” and she was the FIRST and remains the longest standing staff member of my own practice. She's now the REAL boss of the Paul Gough Physio Rooms and has been with me for 8 years now. In that time she has witnessed a LOT of changes to my business, the Paul Gough Physio Rooms… We've re-invented ourselves from a clinic that was 80% reliant upon referrals from third parties… …to a clinic that is in complete control of it's own client flow - with 80% of our patients now being SELF REFERRED and happy to self pay, in cash, as a result of the direct marketing that we do. Vicki has been there with me as business hit an all time low as referrals from those third parties DROPPED… …as insurance companies SLASHED our re-embursement fees… …and she's been there as I introduced the new “Value Added Marketing” strategy that has TRANSFORMED my business fortunes BUT at the same time, almost tipped one or two of my staff over the edge as we struggled to cope with the HUGE impact of the value added marketing strategy we adopted in 2013. Vicki is going to share with you much of what she's learned from working alongside me, what her best advice would to anyone trying to grow a business - as well some of the things she's learned about why very FEW people ever want to pay for physical therapy - and how we build a business in-spite of that! This is an incredibly authentic interview with someone who I consider LARGELY responsible for the success of my clinic and I'm delighted to be able to share this with you to learn from. Every practice needs a great marketing strategy - but more important than that, every successful practice needs a “VICKI SMITH”. Listen to the interview and you'll see exactly what I mean… - The bizarre circumstances that me and Vicki met - and how she almost “took her clothes off in front of me”… (2:38) - The early challenges we faced when beginning to grow the clinic from when it was just me and her - to adding more staff… (8:55) - How to let staff know what you expect - and why it's so important… (16:58) - Why people don't want to for physiotherapy any more… and what they will pay that you can provide instead! (24:50) - Why MOST patients want to pay for solutions to internal problems - not external problems like back pain… (39:44) - How to make your patients at home in your practice from the very first interaction they have with you… (46:05) Be sure to subscribe to the show AND please leave us a review - we would love to know how this show is impacting you.
