Send a text(REPRISE from AUG 2025) Today I welcome a familiar voice and a longtime friend—Dr. Randall Balmer. Back in the day, when we were “Trinity Men,” he was “Randy” to me. Today, he's Dr. Balmer—historian, author, professor, and one of the leading voices on religion in America. He earned his graduate degrees at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Princeton, and Union Theological Seminary, and this marks our third interview together.Randall recently published a powerful piece in the Los Angeles Times about the 1925 Scopes Trial—often remembered as the showdown between Genesis and Darwin. He reminds us that the trial wasn't supposed to be about evolution at all, but that's where it landed. William Jennings Bryan thundered that “if evolution wins, Christianity goes.” Clarence Darrow countered, “It's not Scopes on trial—it's civilization.” Nearly a century later, the questions linger.Randall also brings us into his latest book, America's Best Idea: The Separation of Church and State. It's a sweeping story—Roger Williams's “hedge of separation,” Jefferson's Danbury letter, Madison, Adams, and the First Amendment—all the way to today's battles over vouchers, religious schools, and the religious right. Along the way, we'll talk about court rulings, culture wars, and the ongoing debate over whether America is a Christian nation—or a nation that protects the freedom of every faith, and of no faith at all. It's always a rich conversation when Dr. Balmer joins me, and today is no exception. Athena Gold Corp CEO Koby Kushner joined Steve Darling from the Vancouver Resources Investment Conference to share news about about the company's strategic positioning for a potential grassroots gold discovery at its flagship Laird Lake project in Red Lake, Ontario. During the interview, Kushner explained that Athena recently monetized its non-core Nevada asset, Excelsior Springs, while retaining significant upside. That move, combined with an oversubscribed $3.5 million financing, has positioned the company with nearly $8 million in cash and marketable securities. “Athena is a gold exploration company, and we're aiming to make the next grassroots gold discovery in Red Lake, Ontario,” Kushner said. For over a year, Athena has been conducting groundwork at Laird Lake, including geophysical interpretation and collecting over 2,000 surface samples. A key breakthrough came with a reinterpretation of the geology — revealing the presence of Balmer rocks, a highly prospective formation historically missed due to incorrect mapping. This includes a 10km strike length rich in visible gold, with surface samples as high as 373 g/t gold. The upcoming drill program, slated to begin by the end of Q1 2026, will test multiple high-priority targets including the Bounty anomaly, the Rigby showing, and geophysical conductors G1 to G6. Athena plans to drill approximately 5,000 metres. The project is further bolstered by its proximity to major players like Evolution Mining, Kinross, and West Red Lake Gold, which recently restarted commercial production just 10km away — reinforcing the region's reputation as “elephant country.” #proactiveinvestors #athenagoldcorp #cse #atha #otcqb #vric2026 #RedLakeGold #GoldExploration #MiningStocks #JuniorMining #LairdLake #DrillProgram #GoldInvesting #CanadianMining #KobyKushner #ProactiveInvestors #GoldDiscovery #HighGradeGold

In this episode of Strategic Minds, host Rich Horwath speaks with legendary strategist and bestselling author Geoffrey A. Moore, whose landmark books - Crossing the Chasm, Zone to Win, and Dealing with Darwin - have transformed how leaders approach innovation, disruption, and go-to-market strategy. Moore shares how storytelling, pattern recognition, and intellectual curiosity shaped his unique approach to strategic frameworks - tools that help executives make smarter decisions in high-risk, low-data environments. Together, they unpack how frameworks act as disruptive catalysts, enabling leaders to synthesize complexity, uncover trapped value, and allocate resources more strategically. Through examples from Salesforce, Microsoft, and Amazon, Moore explains the power of “zoning the enterprise” - aligning performance, productivity, incubation and transformation zones to optimize investment, leadership focus, and execution. His insights reveal why frameworks are not formulas but languages of strategic alignment, empowering leaders to think clearly and act decisively amid rapid business transformation.

What if everything you thought you knew about why evangelical Christians became politically active was completely wrong? Today I sit down with one of America's greatest historians of religion, Randall Balmer, to do some serious myth-busting. We dive deep into what Balmer calls "the abortion myth" - the widely believed but false story that evangelicals mobilized politically in the 1970s over Roe v. Wade. The real origin story? It's much more uncomfortable - it was actually about defending racial segregation in Christian schools when the IRS threatened their tax-exempt status. Balmer takes us through this hidden history he discovered firsthand at a 1990 gathering of religious right leaders, where architect Paul Weyrich admitted abortion "had nothing to do with" their political mobilization. We trace how a religious community that once championed prison reform, women's rights, and abolition transformed into today's Christian nationalist movement, and explore what this means for the future of American religion. From Jimmy Carter to Donald Trump, from the Jesus movement to Project 2025, this conversation reveals how evangelicalism lost its prophetic voice and became, in Balmer's words, dangerously "worldly." It's a sobering but essential look at how we got here - and whether there's any hope for course correction. Randall Balmer is one of America's leading historians of religion and a prominent scholar of evangelicalism. A professor at Dartmouth College, Balmer grew up in the evangelical subculture as the son of a preacher before earning his PhD. Balmer is the author of numerous influential books, including Bad Faith: Race and the Rise of the Religious Right, God in the White House, and America's Best Idea: The Separation of Church and State. The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 3: 5:05pm- During a press briefing on Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was joined by Patty Morin—mother of Rachel Morin who was killed by MS-13 gang member Victor Martinez. Morin called out Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) for failing to reach out to her family but finding time to rail against the Trump Administration for deporting dangerous migrants who entered the country unlawfully. Leavitt revealed that the wife of Kilmar Abrego Garcia sought a restraining order against him in 2021, citing domestic abuse. Abrego Garcia—a migrant who was in the United States illegally before being deported to El Salvador—was allegedly a member of MS-13, according to the Trump White House. 5:15pm- Cody Balmer, a 38-year-old Harrisburg man, was charged with setting fire to the Pennsylvania Governor's mansion. Balmer threw two Molotov cocktails into the residence and planned to beat Governor Josh Shapiro with a hammer. Thankfully, Shapiro and his family were unharmed. According to reports, Balmer was motivated by his support for Palestine—and his disdain for Shapiro's Jewish faith and support for Israel. Rich notes: Democrats clearly have an anti-Semitism problem. 5:30pm- During a press conference on Wednesday, Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert Kennedy Jr. announced that his department is planning a series of new studies to identify the cause of Autism. 5:40pm- According to Politico, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) has raised $9.6 million in 3-months. Should she be considered the new frontrunner to win the 2028 Democratic nomination for president? Weekday afternoons on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, Rich Zeoli gives the expert analysis and humorous take that we need in this crazy political climate. Along with Executive Producer Matt DeSantis and Justin Otero, the Zeoli show is the next generation of talk radio and you can be a part of it weekday afternoons 3-7pm.

Aside from the crowded sidewalks, do the tens of thousands of historical tours that take place each year have any larger political and ideological meaning? To find out, Ted speaks with longtime (and excellent) Berlin tour guide Ryan Balmer to examine what people come to Berlin looking for, what they tend to walk away with, and what this all means for both the city itself and how the rest of world understands German history. Bush, and Bad Faith: Race and the Rise of the Religious Right.
