Ohio State booked their first Big Ten Tournament Championship over Maryland. Richmond, Georgetown, Siena, Towson and others also get to dance after wins on Saturday.
We'll talk about the crazy CJ Kirst has had this season for Cornell. We'll talk about a bunch of games played this weekend and will mix in quite a bit of bracketology as well in my first week back after a bit of a hiatus.
Cornell, Maryland, Ohio State and Princeton all handled their business and picked up wins on Saturday. North Carolina was the lone top-5 team to get beat making life a bit easier for the media members that get a vote in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.Syracuse got a big win over arch rival Virginia despite UVA jumping out to a 5-1 lead early in the game. Notre Dame beat up on Duke for the second season in a row. Michigan took down Hopkins on a day that the Jays struggled to get anything going offensively. We'll talk about these games and more in the 300th episode of the LaxFactor Podcast.
The college lacrosse world saw its #1 ranked team in Maryland and its #3 ranked team in Army both dropped in overtime on Saturday. Michigan needed a late game save in overtime out of Hunter Taylor to help lift them over the Terps, and Boston University got a huge save from their keeper, Will Barnes to get them over the hump against Army.Syracuse welcomed upstate rival and #18 Colgate to the Dome on Saturday and came away victors. Princeton hosted Ivy League rival Harvard and managed to hold them off for a 2-goal victory. We'll talk about these games and many more in this weekends episode.
This weekend was thin on ranked matchups, but it more than made up for it with 5 games on Saturday needing overtime to get to the winner, including Duke and Towson each picking up thrilling OT victories. Maryland, Johns Hopkins and Notre Dame all handled their business and picked up solid wins as well.Support the podcast:https://www.laxfactor.com/

Harvard squeaked by Michigan thanks to Sam Kings big day, and many more.Support the channel...https://www.laxfactor.com/

College lacrosse fans were treated to a battle between #1 Notre Dame and #2 Maryland and it didn't disappoint with the Terps taking home the one-goal victory over the returning national champs, and in the process proved their worth without any doubt.Princeton and Johns Hopkins each pulled one-goal wins out of their respective behinds taking down Duke and Virginia respectively. North Carolina and Syracuse were the lone ACC teams to pick up victories each handling their business against inferior foes. The Hoyas took down Brown, Ohio State dropped Bryant and Colgate picked up a big win over conference rival Loyola. We have 8 games being played this weekend where both teams are featured in the InsideLacrosse Media Poll. The games we'll be talking about, in order… #1 Notre Dame @ #11 Georgetown #2 Maryland @ #5 Princeton #9 North Carolina @ #3 Johns Hopkins #12 Denver @ #4 Cornell #15 Harvard @ #6 SyracuseMichigan @ #7 DukeMercer @ #8 Army #20 Navy @ #10 Penn State & more. Can Joey Spallina and the Syracuse attack get a bounce back win against Harvard? We'll talk about that and more in this episode.
In the top battle of the weekend, #6 Maryland beat #2 Syracuse by taking away the Orange's inside game. Richmond toppled Virginia in a stunning upset in Charlottesville. We have a full slate of college lacrosse games popping off a week from today, so I want to rip through my personal top 10, along with the full poll I submitted to InsideLacrosse for their media poll. I'll start by talking about the top 10, and then by the end I go through my entire top 20 and line that up against the released preseason media poll that dropped early last week. In this video, I'll heavily discuss Denver, Johns Hopkins, Yale, Duke, Cornell, Virginia, Princeton, Maryland, Syracuse and Notre Dame. Support the channel... https://www.laxfactor.com/
Syracuse brings back more offensive talent than any team in the country. Yes, I'm a homer, but that is a fact. Joey Spallina headlines a healthy roster of returning talent as the only returning “numbered” All-American. Spallina & Hiltz and whoever they put in that 3rd spot on attack will be one of the top 5 units in the country (IL has them at #5 in fact). The real strength of this team is quality depth on the offensive midfield. I'm not the only guy speaking on the strength of Syracuse's first two midfield lines. IL has them ranked #2 in their midfield unit rankings. Billy Dwan is the lone returning “numbered” All-American on the defensive side. Carter Rice was an honorable mention All-American and in my opinion was one of the best 10 or so SSDM's in the nation by seasons end. A few teams lost top level faceoff guys, including Syracuse in Mason Kohn (58%). But most teams didn't have two guys on their roster that won 58% of their draws in 2024. Syracuse did, and John Mullen comes back looking like the guy that can give the Orange some draw stability for years to come. The only outright question mark this Syracuse team has is in cage. Can Jimmy McCool or whoever ends up starting be “just good enough” to allow this team to get back to the final 4? Hot Take #1, if Syracuse has a goalie that stops at least 53.5% of the shots he faces going into the tournament, they'll make it to the Final 4. Support the channel... https://www.laxfactor.com/
Notre Dame received the #1 spot in my submission for the Inside Lacrosse D1 Preseason Media Poll. Despite losing Pat Kavanaugh and Liam Entenmann to graduation, the Irish return Chris Kavanaugh, Devon McLane, Jordan Faison, Shawn Lyght and many more. Winning two consecutive titles was a tall task. Winning three is going to be an even taller hill to climb, but this Notre Dame lacrosse team has the talent. The question becomes, will they still have that dog in them after the Tewaaraton winner has departed. *Support the channel, buy some swag...* https://www.laxfactor.com/
We saw a ton of very good, top goalies graduate in 2024. While there are a few “very easy to peg top returners”, two are total no brainers, Emmet Carroll of Penn and Jack Fracyon of Penn State. These guys were both numbered All-Americans a season ago (Carroll was on the 2nd team and Fracyon was the 3rd team). Both of these keepers are proven talents and will have big seasons in 2025. College lacrosse is almost back so it's time to start looking at who the top returning players will be in 2025. I want to start with Harvard's Sam King and and Penn's Emmet Carroll. Both are incredible players that will be heavily leaned on by their respective teams. Sam King has been Harvard's leading scorer since his first season on campus, and Emmet Carroll was the best goalie in college lacrosse a season ago, at least in my opinion. In this weeks show, I'm going to talk about why I have Notre Dame, Syracuse & Johns Hopkins sitting atop my poll vote, in that order. Many are going to light me up for it, but after Notre Dame took down Virginia, and North Carolina beat Duke, I can't ignore the fact that Syracuse holds victories in the head-to-head matchups between Hopkins and Duke, the only other teams with RPI's higher than theirs. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/laxfactor/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/laxfactor/support
Every weekend has brought some chaos to the college lacrosse world, and this weekend was no different. #6 Syracuse hosted the #4 Duke Blue Devils in the Dome on Wednesday night and came away victors, with a 10-4 statement win. The Orange defense played their best game of the season, and in reality the best defensive game any team has played all year long. They held the Duke attack to just 2 goals and an assist. Will Mark was a monster with 14 saves for the Cuse and Owen Hiltz put up 3 goals in the win. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/laxfactor/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/laxfactor/support
Syracuse and Johns Hopkins are back near the top of the college lacrosse world, and everything is great when these two teams play in a top-10 matchup. #9 Syracuse defeated #2 Johns Hopkins 14-13 in an instant classic. Maryland needed overtime to take down a very pesky Brown squad. Notre Dame edged Ohio State, Virginia & Duke both pulled away in the second half to pick up wins. We didn't have as many top notch college lacrosse matchups this weekend, but we still had some solid games. Johns Hopkins took down North Carolina pretty easily and it could have been better for the Jays if they didn't assult numerous UNC players down the stretch. Maryland hosted Princeton and showed that the Tigers losses in the offseason were too much for them to overcome. Rutgers put the beat down on Loyola as did Utah over Vermont. Penn needed overtime to take down Delaware in a very exciting matchup, and Denver scored a late goal and outlasted Cornell by the end out west. The biggest game in this glorious weekend of college lacrosse is #4 Maryland taking on #5 Syracuse in the Dome on Saturday as the days nightcap. It will be Joey Spallina and the Syracuse offense taking on Ajax Zapitello and the Maryland defense. The battle at the faceoff dot between Kohn and Wierman should be fun to watch. #3 Virginia will travel to take on #17 Richmond. The Spiders only lost to Maryland by a goal in 2OT's, so they are battle tested and ready to go against a Virginia team that could be scary good offensively this year. #7 Army will travel a short distance to take on #11 Rutgers. I like Army in this one, but Rutgers has a very good offensive team. #20 Loyola against #9 Hopkins should also be a very good game with a similar rivalry to Army and Rutgers. My first thought as I looked at the second week of games was "there aren't a lot of bangers" here. But as always, the college lacrosse gods have spoken and the more I dove into some of these matchups, the more I feel we should see some solid games. Virginia hosting Michigan could be promising, but at the end of the day, can Michigan's defense stifle the UVA offense enough to keep things close? Johns Hopkins hosting Georgetown also has the makings of a solid contest, but after getting smoked by Loyola a weekend ago, do the Greyhounds have some trouble on the horizon? Hopkins was upset by Denver in week one, but bounced back with a solid win over Towson. Which Hopkins team will show up? Maryland will host Loyola (coming off the Gtown win) and I expect this to be a solid fight. Syracuse will be the first team to play three games and should be 3-0 after beating Manhattan on Friday night. Rutgers takes on Stony Brook (on the road) in a game that could be closer than many expect. We also get to see Duke again, North Carolina will take on Mercer leaving Notre Dame as the only ACC team that won't have played yet. I'll talk about these games and many more in this weeks college lacrosse weekend preview show. *Support the channel, buy some swag...* https://www.laxfactor.com/ --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/laxfactor/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/laxfactor/support
What an opening weekend of college lacrosse. We saw #13 Denver take down #5 Johns Hopkins in overtime with JJ Sillstrop going crazy and scoring the games final 4 goals, including the OT winner. We saw unranked Colgate take down #4 Penn State on the road, scoring the game winner with 4 seconds left in regulation. We saw Syracuse and Duke each roll their non-conference foes. We saw Loyola beat up on a Georgetown team that is trying out all sorts of new starters. Maryland needed 2OT's to take down Richmond on the road. Rutgers eeked out a 2-goal win over Lehigh. Ohio State was losing to Utah for most of the game before rebounding and picking up the win. We'll talk about all of these games and more in this seasons first college lacrosse weekend roundup. In our first week of college lacrosse action, Johns Hopkins taking on Denver would appear to be the big matchup of the weekend. However, I think that Ohio State is going to get a very solid test taking on Utah at home. Penn State, Maryland, Syracuse and Duke are both playing games they should handily win. Rutgers hosting Lehigh, and Loyola hosting Georgetown should actually end up being the best games of the weekend. It's official, the Premier Lacrosse League has finally hitched their teams to cities (and regions) and I'm officially a New York Atlas fan. Glad to get to root on my favorite PLL player, Jeff Teat (and company) and I hope this causes me to become as addicted to the PLL as I have been to college lacrosse for the last 5 or 6 years. Also, huge announcement, I've been working a formula to rank college players (at every position) and that rating will be known as a players LaxFactor Rating. The LaxFactor Ratings will weight specific data points differently across each position group. I'm still working on finalizing the attack rating system, but should have it complete in time to do a reveal of my top 30 attackmen along with their scores for next weekends show. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/laxfactor/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/laxfactor/support
Syracuse Lacrosse will have an embarrassment of riches in terms of offensive depth in the spring of 2024 thanks to winning the transfer portal. Jake Stevens & Sam English (Princeton) will both see a ton of time at midfield and attackman Christian Mule (Lehigh) is the perfect compliment to Spallina and Hiltz on attack. But adding a FOGO and two very capable LSM's certainly doesn't hurt. This is a much improved roster between these key transfers, the incoming guys and the returners will reap the benefits. As you all now know, Notre Dame has been crowned the DI College Lacrosse National Champion after defeating Duke 13-9 on Memorial Day this past weekend. Liam Entenmann was named the games most outstanding player making 18 saves (7 of them in the fourth quarter) as the Irish pulled away from the Blue Devils enroute to winning the programs first national title. OK, today I'll talk about the D1 NCAA Lacrosse Tournament as well as about games for the D2 and D3 tournaments. Every game this weekend at the Division I level have promise, but I think the Georgetown vs Virginia and Army vs Penn State matchups could be crazy. Duke has shown they are susceptible to getting upset, they did lose to Jacksonville early this season after all. Notre Dame and Hopkins rarely faceoff against each other, so no matter what the outcome of that game it will be fun to watch. I don't hate Hopkins chances at screwing up Notre Dame's fun. This weekend's NCAA Lacrosse Tournament First Round gave us four 1-goal games, a 2-goal game and a bunch of goals in the games that weren't so close. I missed Wednesday/Thursday's show because I'm a pansy and I was sick, but I watched a ton of lacrosse over the last 5 days and I can say that I don't recall a conference tournament season as odd as this one. The A10 Semifinals saw Saint Joseph's (the 1-seed) get humbled in a loss. The America East Semifinals saw Vermont (the 1-seed) get bounced. The Big Ten Tournament Semifinals, the top two seeds got bounced. Michigan took down Penn State and Maryland toppled Hopkins. The Ivy League Semifinals, same crap, the top two seeds, Cornell and Penn, both lost. If you were a team on the bubble, these games played on Thursday and Friday were your worst nightmare. For almost ever bubble team, they needed one of the favorites of the B1G and Ivy tournaments to win in order to have a shot at an at large. What they got instead was the bubble teams they were competing against for that bid won very important games and improved their resumes, bumping tournament favorites to the at large pool. We had lots of action this weekend with the bulk of the games being played factoring in NCAA or conference tournament seeding. We'll talk about a bunch of said games including a couple of overtime finishes between Princeton and Cornell as well as Denver and Marquette. Syracuse's postseason hopes were on the line in an ACC road game against Duke. Yale and Harvard played a win and you're in game, and Boston University took on Army to decide who would get the one-seed in the Patriot League tournament. The Big Ten tournament kicked off with Michigan taking on Ohio State and Maryland hosting Rutgers. We'll talk about all of these games and more in this week's college lacrosse weekend recap show. One of the oldest and most respected rivalries in college lacrosse, Johns Hopkins visiting Maryland ended up being the best game of the weekend, as expected. Hopkins picked up the win, and is now looking to be the favorite to win the Big Ten tournament, but seeing how every team makes the cut, it could still get interesting. North Carolina and Syracuse both badly needed wins to keep their hopes for an at large bid alive, and both lost as Notre Dame and Virginia handled their business against their ACC rivals in a weekend that saw Duke relax with a weekend off. Cornell and Princeton both picked up victories to remain at the top of the Ivy League standings and there were huge games in almost every conference in terms of setting up the conference tournament seedings and so on. *View the blog post...* https://www.laxfactor.com/2023/04/johns-hopkins-notre-dame-virginia-win-conference-tourneys-taking-shape-laxfactor-podcast-257/ Watch the show w/ video on YouTube... https://www.youtube.com/laxfactor/ --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/laxfactor/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/laxfactor/support
