Locked On Baylor - Daily Podcast On Baylor Bears Football & Basketball
The NCAA Tournament First Round match between UC Santa Barbara and Baylor is set to take place. UC Santa Barbara, who won the Big West and are making their second appearance in the tournament in three years, have been seeded at No. 14 and will face No. 3 seeded Baylor Bears. Baylor, the reigning National Champions, will be looking to continue their strong form in the tournament. In terms of odds, spread, and total, the game is expected to be closely contested. While there are positive aspects to UCSB's gameplay, their weak defense means that they may struggle to cover the spread. However, a better option may be to bet on the total score of the game and go for the OVER, given the strengths and weaknesses of both teams. Baylor's perimeter offense is a force to be reckoned with, ranking 22nd in the country in three-point rate, while UCSB is lacking in their opponent three-point field goal percentage. On the other hand, UCSB ranks 22nd in the country in two-point shot rate, and Baylor's interior defense has struggled this season, ranking 314th in opponent two-point field goal percentage. Both teams are adept at making the most of their offensive possessions, with a high percentage of possessions resulting in points. This factor further supports betting on the OVER in this game. Survive and advance is the name of the game in the NCAA tournament, and (4) Illinois did just that on Friday with a 54-53 win over (13) Chattanooga. The Illini didn't lead in the game at any point under less than one minute left in the game. The Mocs has a shot to win it at the buzzer but Coleman Hawkins blocked the initial attempt and Malachi Smith missed the potential game winner as time expired. Craig Choate and Logan Lee are distraught in this Illini Postgame Show from No One Asked Us. Illinois moves to the Round of 32 for the 2nd year in a row. The Illini will face (5) Houston in the Second Round on Sunday at 12:10 pm ET. As we get ready for the return of the NCAA Tournament after a one-year hiatus, we picked a game from the first round that featured two teams that are very relevant to this tournament: defending champion Virginia and the current favorite Gonzaga. The 2001 South Regional matchup between the 5-seed Cavaliers and the 12-seed Bulldogs might seem like just another first round matchup on paper, but it went a long way towards turning the Zags from Cinderella to tournament mainstay. In Mark Few’s second season as head coach in Spokane, there were questions about whether he'd be able to continue the program's recent rise. This team advanced to the Elite 8 and Sweet 16 the previous two seasons. In their way was a battle-tested Virginia squad led by coach Pete Gillen and a backcourt led by Roger Mason and Donald Hand. Join us as we go back to this 5-12 matchup from 20 years ago. In their episode, we discuss: Where Gonzaga is in terms of their program progression Gonzaga household names over the years The 2001 tournament The Pyramid in Memphis was an awesome setting Mike’s 2001 Final Four experience Chris Williams from Birmingham The Big Apple on CBS? We'll talk these things and more on the show.
