On this week's episode the boys are back with a quick preview heading into opening weekend of the 2025 college lacrosse season. We get into whether or not Notre Dame can pull off the 3-peat, early Tewaaraton predictions, and give out a few picks for this weekend's slate of games.
To get you ready for the 2025 college lacrosse season, IL's Terry Foy and Nick Ossello are back with The Tailgate. They start with an offseason recap, going over rule changes, coaching changes, new teams and the rest of the news. From there, they break down the Preseason Media Poll, look back at their 2024 predictions and pick their Dark Horse, Tewaaraton winner, Final Four teams and champion. They then welcome former Brown All-American LSM Larken Kemp (who will be writing a column for IL this season) to cover such topics as DeepSeek's effect on the Tech Bro/Jack power heirarchy, how Virginia will be able to rely on early offense and more.
Notre Dame received the #1 spot in my submission for the Inside Lacrosse D1 Preseason Media Poll. Despite losing Pat Kavanaugh and Liam Entenmann to graduation, the Irish return Chris Kavanaugh, Devon McLane, Jordan Faison, Shawn Lyght and many more. Winning two consecutive titles was a tall task. Winning three is going to be an even taller hill to climb, but this Notre Dame lacrosse team has the talent. The question becomes, will they still have that dog in them after the Tewaaraton winner has departed. *Support the channel, buy some swag...* https://www.laxfactor.com/

On this week's episode the boys recap everything that went down in the past week of college lacrosse including Shellenberger going off at Arlotta, the Notre Dame Football Team deserves the Tewaaraton, Dartmouth winning their first Ivy League game since 2015, and more [0:00 - 40:30]. Next we get into segments including Weight Room of the Week and Buy/Sell [40:40 - 53:45]. Finally we wrap things up with our picks and previews for this weekend's slate of games in both the NCAA, and the NCL sixes season starting up [53:50 - 1:07:40].
In the 2023 Tewaaraton Award race, two guys stand out from the rest. Connor Shellenberger (Virginia) and Pat Kavanaugh (Notre Dame) are sitting at the top of my 5-man list at the moment because their production matches their teams success. With Virginia and Notre Dame facing off this upcoming weakened, one of them has a chance to put himself at the top of this list by himself. The other guys I'm considering are CJ Kirst (Cornell), Brennan O'Neill (Duke) and Matt Brandau (Yale). All 5 guys have a legit shot at winning with Sam Handley being my "first guy out". Handley and Penn take on Yale within the next two weeks. If Penn can get a win over Yale and Handley factors heavily, he probably bumps Brandau to my first man out and eats the #5 spot. Michelle Tumolo played multiple sports growing up and wasn't even introduced to lacrosse until 9th grade. Her own desire to get really good really fast combined with a coach who taught her to believe in herself and appreciate every moment created an opportunity for her to play at Syracuse University becoming an All-American, Tewaaraton finalist and eventual 2017 World Cup Champion. As the current head coach at Army West Point, she embraces the opportunity to coach young women who have chosen the harder path to serve others. She also values the ability to teach these young cadets the importance of being one's complete self and expressing every emotion. @mtumolo35, @armywp_wlax
Quint and Charley sit down to discuss: -Loyola Fall Ball -Roster Breakdown for 22-23 -Recruiting and Multi-Sport Athletes -Today's Lacrosse Landscape From Loyola Greyhounds Athletics: "The 2023 season will be the 18th as head coach at Loyola for Charley Toomey, a school where he has put his stamp on the Loyola men's lacrosse program as a disciplined, tough, athletic and skillful unit. The Greyhounds ascended to the top of college lacrosse in 2012, winning Loyola's first NCAA Division I Championship. Toomey has directed the Greyhounds to an even 108 wins, an average of 12.2 per season since 2012, and he enters the 2023 campaign with a 168-85 career record in his first 17 years at Loyola. Early in the 2016 season, Toomey became the second coach in program history to reach and cross the 100-win plateau. He stands second on the program's all-time wins chart behind his college coach, Dave Cottle (181-70, 1983-2001). As a head coach, Toomey has coached 51 USILA All-Americans, 93 all-conference selections, 21 conference positional or players or rookies of the year, a Tewwaraton Award winner and five finalists and 28 USILA Scholar All-Americans. Of the award winners, Pat Spencer became the most decorated player in program history during his 2019 senior season when he set the NCAA career record for assists and finished second all-time in points. He was the school's first winner of the Tewaaraton and the USILA Player of the Year Awards and became the school's first four-time All-American. In 2019, Toomey was named to the coaching staff of the U.S. Men's National Team as an assistant coach. He will serve with Team USA in preparation for, and competition in, the 2023 World Championships in San Diego. He was also enshrined in the USLacrosse Chesapeake Chapter Hall of Fame in January 2019 for his accomplishments as a player and a coach." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/lax-all-stars/message

Welcome back to another special interview. Happy to be sitting down (virtually) with an old teammate and absolute stud in the college ranks -- Brett Makar of the University of Maryland. Brett talks about what this past season was like, as the Terps executed a perfect 18-0 season, complete with a National title -- establishing themselves as one of the best teams of all time. He also talks about the celebration afterward, Team USA tryouts, his own personal achievements this past season and his mindset that helped toward that success, the use of analytics, the toughest opponent he's had to guard, playing with the last two Tewaaraton winners (how they're different and the same.) and some other fun questions as he reflects on what's been a "hectic" last few weeks for the First Team All-American. I hope you enjoy!
In the final episode (maybe?) of the 2022 season, D-Fly and Dixie salute the Maryland Terrapins and give some well-deserved, heartfelt props to their archrival. Ugh. They dive into Championship Weekend and the positives and negatives of Hartford as a host city. In this conversation they talk about the benefits of Hartford, how to weather a storm delay, and the food options of beautiful Hartford. The guys also debate the final Inside Lacrosse Top 20 of the season, do not talk about next season, salute Tewaaraton winner Logan Wisnauskas, and then get into a Listener Mailbag. In a music-inspired Give & Go, a reader asks what are the Kid Songs that were sticky.

John Piatelli, Michael Long and CJ Kirst combined for 12 goals and 3 assists on the day, Piatelli was good for 5 goals, Long scored 4 and Kirst put up 3. Each of them had a single assist. Maryland advanced thanks to a monster day in cage by Logan McNaney. McNaney stopped 19 of the 26 shots he faced on the day and helped hold off Princeton. Keegan Khan was good for 3 goals and 2 assists and Tewaaraton front-runner Logan Wisnauskas put up 4 goals in the victory. 2022 is going to be huge for college lacrosse as we'll see a bit of a "changing of the guard" in terms of who is doing battle for end of the year awards and the Tewaaraton. Guys like Brennan O'Neill and Logan Wisnauskas both played Robin to Sowers & Bernhardt last, but this year will get to put on the bat suit for themselves. Sam Handley hasn't seen a college lacrosse field since his breakout freshman season for Penn and talk surrounding this guy is that he may put in a Tewaaraton finalist quality performance. Beyond these guys, we'll talk about Tucker Dordevic (Syracuse), Brendan Curry (Syracuse), Bubba Fairman (Maryland), Johnathan Donville (Maryland), Roman Puglise (Maryland), Matt Rahill (Maryland), Brett Kennedy (Syracuse), Dylan Gergar (Penn), Michael Long (Cornell), John Piatelli (Cornell), Aidan Olmstead (Loyola), Kevin Lindley (Loyola) and many more. On this weeks episode of Going Offsides the guys discuss the LSU football situation and how D1 football contracts have gotten out of control. Later in the show they discuss the success of Tewaaraton trophy winner turned D2 quarterback Jared Bernhardt. Coaching Contracts When the news broke that Ed Orgeron's contract would be terminated at the end of the 2021 football it came as a bit of a shock. Typically coaches are terminated after a loss, or due to one single obscene incident. In the case of Orgeron, he was let go due to an apparent collection of smaller indiscretions and on the heels of a ranked victory that brought his team back to .500. What's astonishing isn't the salary amount, which is a story for another day, but it's the buyout clause that many of these coaches are getting. Yes LSU will be paying Coach O almost $17 million over the next 5 years, take a look at Jimbo Fisher's buyout, nearly $100 million. While his buyout only occurs if he's fired without cause, what world are we living in where this is a reasonable number? Listen to the pod for our full thoughts. Jared Bernhardt When the best player in college lacrosse decided to delay his inevitable premier in the PLL for a football career, we weren't sure what to make of it. He hadn't played meaningful football since high school, and while football is in his blood we have to admit we're both astonished and excited to see how well Jared has done.
There is no shortage of incredible offensive talent we will be able to enjoy in 2022's upcoming lacrosse season, but there are 5 guys that I'm really excited about, that I wanted to talk about. Caveat, I'm not going to talk about Chris Gray, even though we know he's going to be the favorite once again for the Tewaaraton. Nothing at all against Gray, but I talked about him a ton last season and will do so again this season, so for this show, I'm going to talk about guys that aren't quite at Gray's level in terms of media coverage. Those guys are... Connor Shellenberger (Virginia), Asher Nolting (High Point), Pat Kavanagh (Notre Dame), Ryan Lanchbury (Richmond) and Richie LaCalandra (LIU). All five of these guys had huge 2021 seasons, and all five of them are expected to continue to trash on the NCAA in 2022 as well. All of them have different styles of play, some more flashy than others, but to be certain, all of the get things done on the lacrosse field and are must see TV. Interview with Maryland goalie and 2019 Tewaaraton award winner Megan Taylor
Should we be more "angry" about the state of the Orioles? It's a complicated question that Glenn had to address last night and he's not sure of the answer and we spent the better part of the first hour of today's show trying to decipher an answer. In Hour 2, former Maryland lacrosse star and Tewaaraton winner Matt Rambo joined us before he plays two games with the PLL's Whipsnakes this weekend at Homewood Field. Then a silly #FinishThis and Kyle In The Kitchen dove into some chicken thighs.
ILWomen's Halley Griggs, Rachael DeCecco and Alyssa Murray Cometti react to Boston College's first national championship, Charlotte North's Tewaaraton and the recent weeks' news, including the coaching opening at Syracuse.Powered by Unleashed.
Virginia won an instant classic over Maryland by a score of 17-16 capturing their second national title in a row, the first back to back championship in the programs history. Connor Shellenberger was a huge part of the win going for 4 goals and 2 assists. The redshirt freshman was too much for Maryland to handle all day long. Teammate Matt Moore also put up 4 goals and 2 helpers in the win, both players taking only 7 shots. That efficiency in scoring would prove key down the stretch as Maryland turned up the heat defensively and started to battle back late. UVA Keeper Alex Rode and the Cavaliers defense played an excellent game, outplaying their counterparts for the Terps just enough to squeak out the win. Rode's last second save to seal the victory will go down in Virginia history as one of the biggest moments of all time. Tewaaraton winner Jared Bernhardt was held to 2 goals and 3 assists, an excellent outing to be sure, but a touch off of his season average. Petey LaSalla won the lions share of face-offs for the Cav's, but the Terps forcing turnovers between the boxes evened out that possession battle, and allowed Maryland to keep pace right down to the end of the game. In other news, Gary Gait was named Syracuse's 5th lacrosse coach in over 100 years as John Desko decided to retire while I was walking around Magic Kingdom. The transition should be as smooth as coaching changes can go with Desko offering to help out in any way he can, and Gait obviously accepting his former coach's offer. Boston College Women's Lacrosse Superstar Charlotte North makes her return to the show after winning the Tewaaraton award. The 2nd BC player to ever do so. We also take a look back at the "Best From the Weekend" in ACC sports, and of course "The Worst From the Weekend" as well. Plus we update you on the 2021 Baseball championship, and the Women's College World Series.
With the 2021 college season in the books we broke down each of the games on the men's side. As we all know by now, the D1 final between Maryland and Virginia was a perfect way to cap off the season. Maryland drew blood early but Virginia was able to punch back and hold on until the bitter end on an amazing and timely save by Alex Rode. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/going-offsides/message

Sam (@sam_apuzzo) is a graduate assistant coach at Boston College studying sports administration, was a record breaker and Tewaaraton winning 2019 graduate from BC, a member of the WPLL Fight, and Team USA. Sam helped build a young up and coming BC program to 3 Final Four appearances, picking up All-American honors and ACC attacker of the year twice along the way. "I [used to] put a lot of stress on myself with recruiting and playing... I 'd beat myself up about every game I didn't have a goal or point... as I'm getting older I realize that's not what lacrosse is about, it's a team sport... I don't have to be a certain person or fit a [certain] mold to be considered a "good lacrosse player" Sam is originally from West Babylon NY where she attended West Babylon HS before heading to BC. We had a great conversation with Sam about how she eventually experienced so much success in college and turned into one of the best players in the world. She has learned a lot about what it takes to be great, including battling through a torn ACL her freshman year, and learning to see the field from all different types of perspectives. Really enjoyed hearing Sam share a lot of knowledge and growth with us... hope you all enjoy!
TD (@td_ierlan) is a faceoff specialist from Yale University heading into his (2nd) senior season as a 5th year, being granted one extra year of eligibility due to peculiar COVID circumstances he highlights in this interview. TD was the first overall pick in the MLL draft prior to deciding on his return to college, and is a 3-time (2x first team) All-American and Tewaaraton finalist so far in his career. TD has countless NCAA records, including faceoffs and groundballs won in both a career, and season. Billboard Quote: "Embrace the suck... and a close second, if the environment around you doesn't change, change the environment." TD is from Victor NY where he was an okay faceoff guy in high school (multiple FO related state records in NY) , and a stud wrestler and football player. Great conversation with TD about how he got into facing off, chips on his shoulder from getting doubted and overlooked his whole life, and what has made him so successful as an athlete. Lotta great information in this one, hope you all enjoy! (PS Apologize for the tough audio first 1:09... CK naturally forgot to start recording immediately) Please rate, subscribe, or leave a comment on something you wish we would have asked!
Shelby is an assistant coach at Northwestern, plays for the WPLL Pride, and graduated in '18 from NU, where she was a Tewaaraton nominee, 4 year starting attacker, and all-time leader in draw control. "What can I do more to help these girls have a positive experience individually? Something that's huge is just how special each individual is and what makes them tick... that's something I've really been trying to dive into" Shelby (@shelbyfredericks) is from Babylon NY, dove deep into what she has learned about success, and a lot about how she has discovered what works best for her through ups and downs. Loved this conversation, hope you enjoy!
