The Rangers went to Tampa and squandered two chances to step on the throat of the back-to-back Stanley Cup Champion Lightning. With the series shifting back to New York deadlocked at 2-2, Becky, Dave and Rob remain confident. They discuss why the good vibes of the 2021-22 season can continue, and also how the Rangers can get back to playing their speed game, which gave the Lightning fits in Games 1 and 2. The Rangers are one of three teams left standing, and are just two wins away from the Stanley Cup Final. The sky isn't falling (yet)! For the first time since 2015, the Rangers are back in the Eastern Conference Final. They punched their ticket to the NHL's final four with a comprehensive 6-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 7 of the second round, and now look forward to their next challenge: a date with the back-to-back champs, the Tampa Bay Lightning. Becky, Rob and Dave discuss how the Rangers bested the Canes, choose their series MVP's, and also talk about why they're optimistic about the Blueshirts' chances against Tampa. As always, some great fan questions close out the show, along with some real-time commentary on Game 1 of the Western Conference Final as it unfolded.Follow the show on Twitter at @BlueSeatsLive, and submit a question for the gang to answer on next week's show. There's nothing better than a deep run in the Stanley Cup playoffs, and the Rangers have advanced to the second round after defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins in dramatic fashion. On this week's show, Becky, Rob, and Conall relive the ups and downs of the Pittsburgh series and describe the emotional rollercoaster that was Game 7 overtime. Then, the gang turns their attention to the Rangers' next opponent: the always troublesome (and very familiar) Carolina Hurricanes. The Blueshirts are decidedly underdogs, but how can you count this team out? Follow the show on Twitter @BlueSeatsLive, and make sure to send in a question to be answered on next week's show! The excruciating, infuriating, heart attack-inducing Stanley Cup playoffs are back in New York, and Game 1 was a crash course for these young Rangers. While it's hard to imagine an outcome worse than a triple overtime loss, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the Blueshirts' chances in this series. Becky, Dave and Rob break it all down, and also try to make sense of the extremely controversial goalie interference call which likely cost the Rangers a win.The gang also answers fan questions that cover everything from Game 2 lineup considerations to the raucous atmosphere inside Madison Square Garden. BSB's resident coach Conall McNelis joins this week's show to share his unique perspective on the Rangers as they continue their march towards the playoffs. Each of their potential opponents - Pittsburgh, Washington, Boston or Tampa - present challenges, but is there an ideal opponent for the Rangers from that group? Becky, Dave, Rob and Conall discuss that and much more on this week's show.Make sure to follow Conall on Twitter (@CoachConall) and check out some of his work on Blue Seat Blogs. Becky, Rob, and Dave are back together for this week's episode of Live from the Blue Seats and they're ready to celebrate the Rangers' first playoff berth since the 2016-17 season. After punching their ticket with a convincing 5-1 win over Ottawa on Saturday night, the Rangers now set their sights on Carolina and first place in the Metropolitan Division. The gang reflects on the long and often unpredictable journey through the rebuild, and savors the accomplishment of making the final 16, something that many fans surely took for granted for years.Becky, Rob, and Dave also answer a boatload of fan questions, including this one: How many goals will Chris Kreider finish the 2021-22 season with? Kreider is within striking distance of Jaromir Jagr's club record 54 as the Rangers head into their final 8 games of the season.Follow the show on Twitter @BlueSeatsLive, and submit your question for next week's episode. The Rangers have been a different team since the trade deadline. In particular, the additions of forwards Frank Vatrano, Andrew Copp and Tyler Motte have transformed the Rangers into a team that generates consistent offense and doesn't need to rely on all-world goaltending to win. Justin Braun has bolstered the defense, which already began to turn the corner in January. On this week's episode of Live from the Blue Seats, Rob Luker joins Becky and (other) Rob to dig into the numbers surrounding the Rangers' recent run of form. Is it sustainable? And if it is, what does that mean for New York's playoff chances? The gang also ponders the return of Kaapo Kakko and the ripple effect that will have on the rest of the lineup. As always, the show wraps up with some great questions submitted by listeners. And stick around all the way to the end if you want to hear everyone's Masters predictions.Follow the show on Twitter @BlueSeatsLive and send us a question for next week's show. The Rangers have been on fire since the trade deadline, and outside of a stinker against the Devils have the look of a team who can make a deep playoff run. On this week's episode of Live from the Blue Seats, Dave and Rob size the team up against their Metropolitan Division counterparts. While matchups against Pittsburgh and Washington seem favorable, the Carolina Hurricanes loom in round 2. The other big issue is the play of Alexandar Georgiev, who has allowed 4 goals in each of his last two starts, and isn't inspiring much confidence in him as a backup should Igor Shesterkin go down with an injury. Should the Rangers consider promoting Keith Kinkaid? Dave also quizzes Rob on some stats-based trivia, and the answers to some of the questions may surprise you. As always, the show concludes with a slew of fantastic fan-submitted questions.Follow @BlueSeatsLive on Twitter, and make sure to submit a question for next week's show! Live from the Blue Seats truly went live for the first time ever on Monday night, with Rob, Becky and Dave hosting a special Trade Deadline reaction show on Twitter Spaces. In case you missed it as it happened, you can check it out here in podcast form.In addition to offering their takes on the additions of Andrew Copp, Tyler Motte and Justin Braun, the gang welcomed in several guest speakers throughout the show. Topics discussed included lineup decisions, locker room dynamics, and what the Rangers might've missed out on, but the general vibe was one of excitement, as Chris Drury solidified and deepened the Blueshirts lineup in preparation for what everyone hopes will be a long playoff run.Live from the Blue Seats will be back in its traditional podcast form next week, but make sure to follow the show on Twitter @BlueSeatsLive! It's almost here. The NHL trade deadline is 5 short days away, and the Rangers are looking to solidify their lineup in advance of their first playoff appearance since 2017. On this week's show, Rob, Becky and Dave make their final trade deadline predictions. Who will be wearing Ranger blue on March 22, and will we be saying goodbye to any current players? The gang also recaps Tuesday night's thrilling 4-3 OT win over the Ducks, and answers some listener submitted questions.Follow the show @BlueSeatsLive on Twitter, and be on the lookout for information about a special live Deadline Day edition of the podcast, happening next Monday! With the trade deadline less than two weeks away, the Rangers are being linked to every name on the market. While the focus has been on improving the team's depth, the Rangers have the assets and cap space to make a splash, and some fans are clamoring for Chris Drury to go big. With the huge disclaimer that Rob, Becky and Dave would all be against this move because of his history of assault and rape allegations, Patrick Kane's name comes up because of his star status, his history with Artemi Panarin, and the current state of the Blackhawks, who are about to begin a full-scale rebuild. But if the Rangers are going to bring any stars to New York via trade, they'd likely need to part with Kaapo Kakko. Would it be worth it?The gang also discusses Igor Shesterkin's Hart Trophy case, with plenty of shots fired at overzealous Toronto Maple Leafs fans who have argued that a goalie shouldn't be eligible for the league MVP award. The show concludes, as always, with answers to some fan questions.Make sure to check out Becky's guest appearance on the 30 on Broadway Talking Blueshirts podcast!Follow the show on Twitter @BlueSeatsLive and submit a question for next week's show! Rob and Dave assess the Rangers' recent play, as they turned in a couple of solid performances vs. Washington and Pittsburgh before laying an egg at home to Vancouver. They also try to decipher the bottom six, which has become a jumbled mess exacerbated by the recent decision by Gerard Gallant to scratch Filip Chytil. But the big story this week is the return of Pavel Buchnevich to New York. The question really isn't if Buchnevich will score, but how many against his former team? And will the Buchnevich trade discourse ever die? Then Becky joins the show for fan questions with a special guest, lifelong Rangers fan and friend of the pod Jessica Laporte (@JessicaLynn312). Becky returns from COVID-19 protocol and rejoins Rob and Dave this week, along with special guest Arthur Staple of The Athletic. The Rangers have started to play a solid team game as they begin the mad dash to the season's finish line: 32 games in 63 days. Even though the goals haven't started coming just yet, is this version of the Rangers "good enough" to make noise in the playoffs? Then, Arthur Staple shares his insights on Chris Drury's trade deadline approach. Should we expect a trade before March 21st? Are the Rangers looking to make minor upgrades, or a major splash? He also gives his overall impression of the Rangers this season under first year head coach Gerard Gallant.Make sure to follow Arthur on Twitter, check out his podcast The Garden Faithful, and read all of his work over at The Athletic (subscription required).Follow the show on Twitter @BlueSeatsLive, and shoot us a question for next week's episode! With Becky on COVID-19 protocol, Russ Hartman joined Rob and Dave on the show as the Rangers returned from their two week break. The gang relives Tuesday night's thrilling shootout win over Boston, and discusses the drama of Igor Shesterkin's late-game exit and return. This was also the second strong game in a row for the Rangers against a good opponent. Are there finally signs that the team is turning around its anemic even strength play? Also, the Rangers have 34 games remaining, with 17 of them against Metro division rivals. Is a first-place finish an impossible dream, or a realistic goal? And of course, the show closes with listener questions, which never disappoint.Follow the show on Twitter @BlueSeatsLive and send in a question or comment for next week's show! The Rangers may be in the middle of a 14-day break, but this week's podcast is overflowing with content. Becky, Rob and Dave explore some trade options that could bolster the Rangers blue line, and discuss Larry Brooks' latest report that Nils Lundkvist could be moved "sooner rather than later." Then, resident numbers guru Rob Luker joins the show to discuss some statistical trends he's seen in the Rangers the last month. Becky, Rob and Dave bring the good vibes from Tuesday night's win over the Panthers into this week's belated show. Was the win over Florida the most impressive of the season for the Rangers? BSB colleague Tyler McGillick also joins the show to share his thoughts on Alexis Lafreniere, and how the Rangers might go about righting some of the wrongs when it comes to developing their top draft picks. While the Rangers sit atop the Metropolitan Division and are all but a lock for their first playoff berth since 2017, the team's roster management has left much to be desired. Why is Libor Hajek still on the team? Why has Greg McKegg played 19 games? Are the Rangers actually going to sell the farm for a one-year shot at a Stanley Cup? Let's just say some of these questions got Dave a little hot under the collar, and you don't want to miss his rant and the ensuing therapy session provided by Becky and Rob.Follow the show on Twitter at @BlueSeatsLive and tweet us your questions to be answered on next week's show! Russ Hartman joins Dave and Rob on this week's show to dissect the Rangers west coast trip so far. With a solid win sandwiched by two lackluster performances, the Rangers find themselves mired in mediocrity at 6-6-1 over their last 13 games. Their inability to generate offense at even strength is a real problem that likely requires a solution from outside the organization. But is this the year to go "all-in" for a run at the Stanley Cup? The Rangers also made news on Tuesday when Braden Schneider was called up with Nils Lundkvist being sent to Hartford. There was plenty of outrage on Rangers Twitter, but was it justified? And what can we expect from Schneider should he make his debut on Thursday in San Jose?Follow the show on Twitter @BlueSeatsLive, and submit your questions and hot takes for next week's show! The Rangers opened 2022 on fire, rattling off three straight wins and showing that maybe they do belong in the conversation as true Stanley Cup contenders. The standings certainly say so, as the Rangers found themselves in first place overall at the conclusion of Monday night's win over Edmonton. What is this team's ceiling? Becky, Rob and Dave discuss that, as well as dig into the ongoing Ryan Strome debate. With the center's contract expiring at season's end, the Rangers will have some difficult decisions to make. As always, the show wraps up with some fan questions. Also, we poured one out (virtually) for Betty White, who passed away last week at the age of 99. After almost two weeks without hockey, desperate fans will finally be rewarded with some action this week as the Rangers travel to Florida to face the Panthers and Lightning. How do the Blueshirts stack up against two of the NHL's best? Rob, Becky and Dave offer their thoughts on the upcoming road trip. Also, with taxi squads being reintroduced, which Rangers prospect might make a surprise impact and why is it Zac Jones (according to Dave, at least)? Becky and Rob are joined by BSB colleague Russ Hartman this week to discuss what's on their Christmas wish lists, both for the Rangers, and in life. As COVID-19 continues to wreak havoc, the NHL has chosen a brief pause ahead of its regularly scheduled holiday break, in hopes that enacting stricter protocols will get team-wide outbreaks under control. But is daily testing the best way forward? The Rangers did play some games last week, so the gang discusses those too. Why did Friday's loss to Vegas leave such a sour taste in everyone's mouth, even though it was a point earned against a good team? The Rangers came back to earth last week with a couple of difficult losses, but even more concerning is the NHL's COVID-19 situation, which has fans fearing that a pause is imminent. Rob, Becky and Dave break that all down, and also talk about how the Rangers can get more out of their top line (and specifically, Mika Zibanejad), and if Jacob Trouba's big hits crossed the line. Blue Seat Blogs' resident goaltending guru Justin Rutherford joins Rob and Dave this week to discuss the impact of Igor Shesterkin's injury, and if the Rangers can keep up their winning ways with Alexandar Georgiev between the pipes. The gang also revels in the firing of now former Flyers head coach Alain Vigneault, and discusses the bromance between Artemi Panarin and Ryan Strome. Will Panarin's affinity for his current line mate be enough to convince the Rangers to re-sign Strome. Becky, Dave and Rob also recap the Rangers' win over the shorthanded Islanders, and the Black Friday triumph over the Bruins. With the Rangers playing solid hockey and camping out near the top of the Metropolitan Division, the spotlight has shifted to the struggling Alexandar Georgiev. The Blueshirts' backup was pulled from his most recent start and looks like a goaltender whose confidence has been shaken. Unless Igor Shesterkin can play 64 games in a row (plus the Olympics!), the Rangers are going to need a resolution to the Georgiev situation. Becky, Rob and Dave discuss the merits of waiving Georgiev, or letting him play through his struggles. Then the gang dives into the trade market, as the Rangers figure to be involved heavily in a search for a middle six winger and defensive depth. Some interesting names came up, including that of former Ranger JT Miller. Could a reunion be in the offing?Subscribe, rate, and leave a review! And follow us on Twitter @BlueSeatsLive. The Rangers righted the ship last weekend, with solid wins over Columbus and New Jersey. Becky, Rob and Dave recap the weekend back-to-back, and then dive into two pressing questions. First, will Kaapo Kakko and Alexis Lafreniere fulfill their potential, and what does it mean for the future of the franchise if they do? Also, what is Filip Chytil's best position moving forward, and how should the Rangers construct their lineup in the wake of the recent injury to Sammy Blais? Thanks to @JasonGeisenheim, @BillTouspille, @JBSports22, @SprecksNY and @TheTerranator for submitting questions! The New York Rangers are broken, and we're going to fix them. Despite a 7-3-3 record, the team is struggling to generate offense and relying almost exclusively on Igor Shesterkin's heroics to secure points. On this week's episode of Live from the Blue Seats, Rob Luker joins the show to share his perspective on the team's early-season struggles, and offers some lineup suggestions that he believes will tip the scales back towards the Rangers.Becky and the Robs also break down the Rangers' last three games, discuss that insane McDavid goal, and share their favorite cocktails. On this week's show, we bask in the glory of Adam Fox's newly-signed 7-year contract extension. Becky, Rob and Dave break down the contract (spoiler alert: it's all good news) and discuss how the contract fits into the bigger picture for the Rangers as they look to build a Stanley Cup contender. Also, the gang attempts to figure out why the Rangers have been so inconsistent to start the season, despite their 6-2-1 record.Lastly, the discussion turns to a much more serious subject: how the Chicago Blackhawks and the NHL failed Kyle Beach in 2010, and how they've continued to let him down. The response from Commissioner Gary Bettman in particular has been unacceptable.IMPORTANT: If you have been a victim of sexual assault, or if you know someone who has, there are resources for you. Who would've thought that August 2020 would turn into one of the most memorable months in the history of the New York Rangers? After a disheartening sweep at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes knocked them out of the NHL playoffs before they even started, Rangers fans turned their attention to ping pong balls. The quirks of this season, brought about by the pandemic and the pause, left the Rangers with a 12.5% chance at the #1 overall pick in October's NHL Draft, and the chance to add a bona fide franchise-changing superstar to their ranks. But in the history of the NHL draft as we know it, the Rangers have never held the coveted number one spot. Until now.Becky, Dave and Rob giddily react to the Rangers' good fortune, and excitedly (and not always coherently) discuss the possibility of Alexis Lafreniere joining this young team that is very much on the rise. While the 2020 draft is loaded with talent, Lafreniere projects to be a cornerstone player. The Rangers' rebuild has officially moved into its next phase. The Rangers were in the news for all the wrong reasons last week when a racist troll invaded an online Q&A with K'Andre Miller. Unfortunately racism remains an extremely pervasive issue, especially in hockey culture. Rob, Becky and Dave discuss the club's response to the incident. The gang also discusses why John Davidson won't commit to naming a captain, and who that player (or players) should be when the time comes. Dave explains why he thinks the Rangers would've fallen just short in their quest for a playoff spot this year, then gets into a seriously heated argument with Becky about why the Rangers fell short in 2015.Check out Blue Seat Blogs, the longest running fan site for all things Rangers, from news and opinion to video analysis and more.Follow the show's Twitter account @BlueSeatsLive, and if you’d like to submit a question for us to answer next show, use the hashtag #LiveFromTheBlueSeats. After a brief hiatus (can you blame us?) Rob, Becky and Dave return to chat about the Rangers...sort of. Without any actual hockey to discuss, the group explores the routes the NHL might take to salvage this season. A 24-team playoff? Finishing play in August or September? How about not awarding the Stanley Cup at all and just moving on to next season? Also on the docket: how are the players passing the time? Artemi Panarin built a birdhouse (cool!) then drove to Florida (not cool!). Ryan Strome did an interesting interview. And might hockey return to ESPN?Check out Blue Seat Blogs, the longest running fan site for all things Rangers, from news and opinion to video analysis and more.Follow the show's Twitter account @BlueSeatsLive, and if you’d like to submit a question for us to answer next show, use the hashtag #LiveFromTheBlueSeats. The two weeks following the trade deadline gave Rangers fans a rollercoaster ride of insane highs (Mika's 5-goal masterpiece) and brutal lows (that unspeakable loss to the Devils). All the while, the team has been forced to weather a sudden rash of injuries to key players. Is David Quinn making the right adjustments? Was Igor Shesterkin rushed back into action? Rob, Becky and Dave try to keep it positive after a tough week for the Rangers, which saw them squander numerous opportunities to climb into a playoff spot. The Rangers came out of the All-Star break with two solid wins against lowly Detroit, but couldn't keep it rolling against Dallas. Despite a mediocre record, there are legitimate reasons for optimism for Rangers fans, as the team has been playing much better over the last couple of months. The crew breaks it all down, and then Rob and Becky chat with the first ever guest on the podcast, NYR beat reporter Vince Mercogliano. Vince dives deep into the current state of the team and covers some hot button issues, such as which players are active on social media (looking at you, Tony DeAngelo), how the organization uses analytics, and what the Rangers will do before the February 24 trade deadline.Make sure to give Vince a follow on Twitter (@VZMercogliano) and read his work at lohud.com.Blueseatblogs.com is your always-on home for the Rangers, from news and opinion to video analysis and more. The Rangers are about to enter the All-Star break outside of the playoff picture. Can they make a run and clinch an unlikely playoff berth? They're also managing an unorthodox three-goalie rotation and something's gotta give. And what's up with David Quinn's lineup decisions, especially regarding Pavel Buchnevich? Rob, Becky and Dave discuss it all as Blue Seat Blogs returns to the podcasting world with Live from the Blue Seats!Blueseatblogs.com is your always-on home for Rangers, from news and opinion, to video analysis and more.Subscribe, rate, and review, and look for new episodes of the show every other Tuesday!
