The Rangers continue a troubling early-season trend of losing a game that they should have won, blowing a two-goal lead at home against the Detroit Red Wings and losing 3-2 in overtime. Jaroslav Halak was outstanding and deserves SO MUCH BETTER than his 0-4 record. Chris Kreider doesn't look engaged and is demoted to the fourth line... so why was he also on the ice to start overtime instead of someone like Kaapo Kakko???? Zac Jones is (unjustly) benched in the third period. Why scrambling the lines and giving them a "names out of a hat" feel wasn't such a bad idea for the third period. Before Flip and Steele get to the second-ever live on-air mock draft, the boys quickly discuss the format and some fantasy hockey draft advice before entering the draft lobby where Flip drafted first and Steele 5th in a snake draft head-to-head format. The rest of this episode is dedicated to the second-ever Locked On Fantasy Hockey mock draft which the boys perform live on-air with reactions and analysis in real time. This league was a head-to-head format with two centres, two left-wingers, two right-wingers, two goalies and four bench slots. Flip and Steele go through the entire draft from start to finish so that you can see how they would attack this format of NHL fantasy hockey draft. Given Flip's slot he had to take Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid first overall and finished his draft taking a risk on two under-the-radar sleeper picks from the Seattle Kraken in Matty Beniers and Vince Dunn. Steele likely came out on top in this draft with some awesome selections of New York Ranger stud Mika Zibanejad and even Vegas Golden Knights Jack Eichel. After more than four years, the Rangers have named a new captain: Jacob Trouba! Why this decision shouldn't come as surprise, especially considering how the Rangers have constructed their team in recent seasons. Did the Rangers make the right choice, or should Chris Kreider and/or Mika Zibanejad have been considered? Biggest takeaways from the press conference with Trouba, Gerard Gallant and Chris Drury. The biggest reason why Trouba is a good choice: it's what the players wanted. Why Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad, Chris Kreider and Barclay Goodrow should all remain alternate captains. In the biggest gut-punch of a loss that the Rangers have suffered since Game 5 of the 2014 Stanley Cup Finals, the Blueshirts go toe-to-toe with the Lightning but are done in by a missed opportunity and a late goal by Ondrej Palat. Ryan Strome can't handle a pass from Andrew Copp, which results in the Rangers missing a golden opportunity to take a late lead. With one even-strength goal in the past three games, is it time for the Rangers to shuffle the deck and perhaps put Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad together? Kaapo Kakko gets held and Tyler Motte gets tripped in the third period, and the refs don't issue penalties. Igor Shesterkin and Andrei Vasilevskiy continue to duel.
