Back in the summer of 2018, whilst sitting with Debra Luker in her garden studio, Carmen invited Debra to showcase her artistry on our Soulhub Journal 02. She willingly and very generously shared a number of options to choose from.Carmen picked the one that stood out. It was an unusual magazine front cover. She fell in love with it. 6 years later, here we are, with Debra back in her studio speaking to Carmen Rendell about her life as an artist and her first ever book The Pigment Trail.Soul stories are all about getting to the heart and essence of someone's life. Our Soulhub Journal told those stories in print and through artwork, and today we're telling them through the medium of sound. Debra Luker is an incredible artist. Her style is bold and colourful. It has a life and vitality all of it's own, born from her experiences in India. The greens, golds, yellows, blues and oranges are just a handful of incredible colours, designs and textures that awaken the soul. Over the last couple of years Debra has taken a group of explorers and new artists to India to connect with some of the majestic nature of what she loves about this country and culture. Always drawn back to her soul place, Debra would sit for hours and whilst absorbing the streets, buildings, people and atmosphere would create her sketches and paintings there and then. Once returned to the UK, she would pull them all together, and send them off to a publisher in the US, and now here she is with The Pigment Trail launched and in the hands of many an armchair traveller around the world. Today she shares of her travels and inspiration. We hope you feel the vibrancy of India through her descriptions and stories. If you'd like to purchase The Pigment Trail, you buy it here, or follow Debra on Instagram and be absorbed into the life of colour and craft, and her creative days.To read our Soulhub Journal, with 100 stories from poets, storytellers, artists and creatives from around the world, you can find out more about the contents, and order your copy here. When Roe v. Wade was handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1973, which protected a woman's right to an abortion, “it changed everything,” says Kristin Luker, a professor emerita of law and of sociology at UC Berkeley. “It was so revolutionary — I argue it was on a par with the American Revolution or the French Revolution.”Last Friday, the Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe, giving states broad power to curtail or end abortion. As of today, abortion is now banned in at least seven states, and about half of states across the country are expected to ban or severely restrict the procedure in the coming days.In this Berkeley Voices episode, Luker talks about why doctors began writing anti-abortion laws in the 19th century, the experiences women had ending unwanted pregnancies in the decades before Roe v. Wade and how she doesn't see us returning to the normative sexuality and reproduction of the 1950s.Listen to the episode, read a transcript and see photos on news.berkeley.edu.Follow Berkeley Voices and review us on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.Music by Blue Dot Sessions.Photo by the Associated Press. The Bad Motivators: A Malfunctioning Star Wars Podcast

Disney+ Day happened, rumors surface about Rogue Squadron, a cool Boba Fett documentary, the gift that keeps on giving, and more! Here's what happens: Our "no sports talk" policy is meaningless, apparently. Round and round. Eric actually got Star Wars merch in Who Got What. Also, the entire world got a Taylor Swift album. Congratulations, world. Anything goes when it comes to tows; the car business ain't easy. Disney+ Day wasn't everything we hoped for. Is the ROI on live-action television comparable to that of theatrical releases? We talk about S01E04 of Star Wars: Visions, The Village Bride, and talk about where it sits in our list of favorites. WE HAVE MERCH! You can get t-shirts and the like at TeePublic.com and Redbubble.com. Dig the show? Support our podcast on Patreon! Go to patreon.com/thebadmotivators to find out more. Thanks for being awesome. Eric has a Bandcamp page where you can get uncompressed stereo versions of some of the great podcast themes and bumpers you've come to know and love! I know, right?!?
