Boomer reacted to the Chris Kreider trade, calling him one of the Rangers' all-time greats while acknowledging his frustrating moments, which led to a comparison of long-tenured New York athletes like the Mets' David Wright and Giants' Tiki Barber, with Gio expressing surprise at the Mets retiring Wright's #5 jersey so soon. In other sports news, Rafael Devers homered to beat the Yankees before being traded, the Mets were swept at home by the Rays, and JJ Spaun won the US Open. The show also featured a "Moment of the Day" with a caller's heartfelt story to a distracted Joe Benigno, and a reminder that the show would be off the following day for a round of golf at Bethpage Black, the future site of the Ryder Cup. And what's going on with Rory?

Chris Kreider talked to the press about his move from the Rangers to the Ducks. Jalen Brunson & Josh Hart finally did an episode of the Roommates podcast and praised Thibs.
Gio recounted a 12-year estrangement from a former Pittsburgh colleague who blamed him for his firing. He recently learned, via Ann Liguori at the US Open, that this individual was speaking as if they were still close, prompting Gio to respond graciously. The challenges of working with someone you're not on speaking terms with were discussed. C-Lo's update followed a caller's thoughts on the Netflix submersible documentary. C-Lo then shared his perspective on Chris Kreider's trade to the Ducks. Audio of Carlos Mendoza's heated exchange with an umpire over balls and strikes. There was also a segment detailing BT's "Volpe song," only to reveal that BT had actually taken the lyrics from a caller, which C-Lo's audio confirmed. The hour concluded with a discussion about Rangers fans' relationship with Chris Kreider.
With Boomer out, Gio and Jerry hosted. They began by discussing Kodai Senga's injury from a bad throw by Pete Alonso, which C-Lo highlighted with a clip of Boomer predicting such an injury. The Mets swept the Nationals, and the Yankees won 1-0 against the Royals. The Oilers defeated the Panthers in an exciting game. They briefly touched on HGTV shows before moving to Chris Kreider's press talking about his move to the Ducks. Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart's "Roommates" podcast praised Thibs. The hour concluded with news of an attempted murder warrant out for Antonio Brown.
The Oilers clawed back from a 3-0 first-period deficit to win Game 4 in overtime, marking the first comeback of its kind in Stanley Cup Final history. A strong pushback, a timely goalie switch to Calvin Pickard and a spark from veteran Corey Perry’s locker room speech helped shift momentum. Blue-liner Darnell Nurse bounced back with a standout performance, Leon Draisaitl’s greasy OT winner capped the effort and despite continued discipline issues from Evander Kane (and others), Edmonton may hold a slight edge in the now best-of-three series. Meanwhile, the Rangers shake up their core, trading Chris Kreider to Anaheim in a bid to retool.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Frank and Jason are back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown. There's only been one Stanley Cup Final game since the last pod on Monday, so today they focused more on some offseason topics, starting with the first trade of the summer as Chris Kreider is on the verge of being dealt to the Anaheim Ducks. After breaking down that deal, they got into Frank's five offer sheet candidates including Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies. Could a team take a big swing and offer Knies a $10m+ deal? Frank thinks it's possible but Gregor says any team doing that would be foolish. From there, they talked about what the Rangers' next move could be and speculated on K'Andre Miller's future with the team. They also broke down the Isaac Howard situation in Tampa Bay.Tyler then popped on for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about Mitch Marner's rights, two of the new big names on Frank's trade targets board, and he led them into some Stanley Cup Final talk. They wrapped up the show by talking about some potential adjustments for the Edmonton Oilers as they look to bounce back from getting blown out in Game 3. For the Panthers, they'll look to take a 3-1 stranglehold and get to within one win of their second straight Stanley Cup.1:30 - Kreider to the Ducks7:30 - Offer sheet watch12:10 - Could Knies make $10m+?26:30 - Rangers next move29:15 - Isaac Howard's future35:00 - Buy or Sell42:38 - Stanley Cup FinalWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? It seems Chris Kreider is headed to the Anaheim Ducks. The Knicks still lack a head coach and a clear plan to find one, with Ron Artest even lobbying for the job on BT & Sal, prompting Gio to question why former players aim directly for head coaching roles instead of staff positions. The Bengals are facing player contract issues. Jerry provided an update, which included sounds of Giancarlo Stanton getting hits for the Somerset Patriots. Pro golfers estimated what amateurs would shoot at the US Open with limited golf balls. The hour concluded with Boomer's bad hamstring cramp and Gio's first experience eating an Uncrustable.
Hockey Hall of Famer and Stanley Cup Champion Chris Pronger joined OverDrive to discuss the Panthers' successful start to the Stanley Cup Final against the Oilers, how Edmonton can bounce back, the physical element from Florida, Sam Bennett's value, Chris Kreider landing with the Ducks, the free agency market and more.
Dan and Shawn are joined by Sportsnet reporter Gene Principe, who has the pulse of the Edmonton Oilers, to discuss the adjustments needed for Game 4, the status of Stuart Skinner and potential lineup changes that Kris Knoblauch may be considering. He also talks about Zach Hyman's absence and why the loss of Hyman shouldn't be overlooked during this series against the Florida Panthers. The guys open the episode looking ahead to Game 4 and wondering how the Oilers can get back to their game. Is Sam Bennett the Conn Smythe favorite right now? They answer that question and look at the impact that Jonah Gadjovich in Game 3. They wrap the episode talking about the maturity of Gus Forsling, the Chris Kreider trade rumors and TJ Oshie's retirement.

Frank and Jason kicked off today's episode of The DFO Rundown by talking about the first Trade Targets list of the summer that dropped earlier this week. They started at the top of the list with Sabres forward JJ Peterka, who is a pending RFA. How could the Sabres move on from Peterka and improve at the same time? The guys discussed that and a hypothetical deal involving Marco Rossi, who is also in Frank's top five. From there, they talked about a few of the defensemen on the list, starting with Rasmus Andersson and his future with the Flames and then they had a big discussion about what the Pittsburgh Penguins could do with Erik Karlsson. If the Penguins were willing to retain a significant portion of his salary, would there be a market for the former 100-point defenseman? Gregor found a spot that he thinks make a lot of sense. They also touched on Jamie Oleksiak of the Seattle Kraken, who is entering the final year of his deal.Tyler then joined for Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about the Rangers situation with Chris Kreider, the Kraken selling off assets, Demko's future in Vancouver, and Sam Bennett's case to be a $10m player. The guys then turned their attention to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Oilers got a big win in Game 4 of the Western Conference Final but it came at a brutal cost as they lost Zach Hyman for the remainder of the postseason. They talked about how the Oilers will adjust their lineup and how much losing Hyman impacts their Stanley Cup chances.1:20 - JJ Peterka & The Sabres5:00 - Rossi for Peterka?11:25 - Rasmus Andersson & The Flames15:20 - Karlsson's future in Pittsburgh28:10 - Buy or Sell (Kreider, the Kraken, & Demko)38:30 - Oilers lose HymanWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Are oxalates actually harming your health, or is this another nutrition myth? In this episode of Super Life, Darin Olien breaks down the real science behind oxalates, their connection to kidney stones, mineral absorption, and gut health, and whether you really need to avoid high-oxalate foods. There's a lot of fear-mongering around oxalates, but what does the latest research say? Should you stop eating spinach, beets, or almonds? What about meat's impact on kidney function? Darin pulls from peer-reviewed studies to cut through the noise and give you the facts so you can make the best choices for your health. If you've ever wondered whether oxalates are a real concern or just clickbait, this episode is a must-listen. Segment 1: What Are Oxalates? Friend or Foe? Oxalates, or oxalic acid, are naturally occurring compounds found in many plant-based foods. They serve as a defense mechanism for plants but can sometimes bind with minerals like calcium and iron in the body, potentially forming kidney stones or reducing nutrient absorption. Here's the key question: Are oxalates dangerous, or is this another health myth blown out of proportion? Here's what the research says: For most people, oxalates are NOT a problem. Your body naturally processes and eliminates excess oxalates through urine. For those prone to kidney stones, particularly calcium oxalate stones (which make up about 80% of all kidney stones), consuming too many high-oxalate foods can increase the risk. Oxalates can interfere with calcium and iron absorption, but this is only a concern for people with nutrient deficiencies. Key takeaway: If your kidneys are healthy, your body handles oxalates just fine. But if you've had kidney stones before, you might want to pay closer attention to your oxalate intake. Segment 2: What Does the Science Say About Oxalates? To cut through the noise, I pulled up the latest research from 2024 and 2025. Here's what's new: 1. Gut Microbiota Can Help Protect Against Oxalates A 2025 study in Frontiers in Nutrition found that certain gut bacteria (like Oxalobacter formigenes) actually digest oxalates, helping prevent kidney stones. Takeaway: If you're worried about oxalates, supporting your gut microbiome with probiotics might be a natural way to reduce their impact. Link: Read Study Here "The presence of oxalate-degrading bacteria in the gut can significantly lower oxalate absorption and reduce kidney stone risk." – Dr. L. Wang, NHANES Study 2. Vitamin C Supplements & Oxalate Formation Some people worry that high-dose vitamin C supplements convert into oxalates, increasing kidney stone risk. A 2025 study in Nutrients found no significant increase in urinary oxalates from vitamin C intake. Takeaway: If you take vitamin C in moderation, you don't have to worry about it increasing oxalates. Link: Read Study Here "Contrary to popular belief, moderate vitamin C supplementation does not significantly raise oxalate levels in urine." – Dr. P.C. Calder, Nutrients Journal 3. Cooking & Fermentation Can Reduce Oxalates A 2024 study on fermentation & nutrient bioavailability found that cooking reduces oxalate levels by up to 60%. Best methods? Boiling, steaming, and fermentation lower oxalates significantly. Takeaway: If you love spinach but worry about oxalates, just boil it first! Link: Read Study Here Segment 3: What About Meat? Does It Increase Kidney Stone Risk? Now, here's something you might not expect. We talk a lot about oxalates and plant-based foods, but what about meat? Could eating too much meat actually contribute to kidney stones? The research says YES—but not because of oxalates. Instead, the mechanism is uric acid and metabolic acidity. Let's break it down. 1. Red Meat & Uric Acid Stones A 2024 study in Nature Reviews Urology found that high animal protein intake increases uric acid, which contributes to kidney stones. Excess meat consumption makes urine more acidic, making it easier for stones to form. Link: Read Study Here "High animal protein intake, while providing essential amino acids, also contributes to increased acid load and uric acid production, both of which are risk factors for kidney stone development." – Dr. S. Loeb, Nature Reviews Urology 2. Meat Increases Metabolic Acidity A 2025 study from Frontiers in Endocrinology found that excessive meat consumption leads to increased acid load, calcium loss, and kidney dysfunction. This makes it harder for the kidneys to filter out waste properly. Link: Read Study Here "While meat consumption is essential for many, excessive intake can disrupt mineral ion homeostasis, increasing the risk of kidney stone disease." – Dr. R. Ahmad, Frontiers in Endocrinology Segment 4: Foods High & Low in Oxalates Knowing which foods to eat or limit is key. High-Oxalate Foods (If You're at Risk) Spinach, Swiss chard, beet greens Beets, rhubarb, sweet potatoes Almonds, peanuts, cashews Blackberries, kiwi, figs Black tea, cocoa, coffee Low-Oxalate Foods (Safer Choices) Kale, mustard greens, cabbage Cauliflower, cucumbers, zucchini Apples, bananas, melons, grapes Milk, yogurt (binds with oxalates) Eggs, fish, chicken, beef (in moderation) Segment 5: Actionable Steps to Manage Oxalate & Meat Intake If you're concerned about oxalates or meat-related kidney stones, here's what to do: Balance Oxalates with Calcium Eat calcium-rich foods with oxalates to prevent them from forming stones. Cook Your Vegetables Boiling, steaming, and fermenting reduce oxalates by up to 60%! Drink Plenty of Water Staying hydrated flushes out excess oxalates & uric acid. Don't Overdo Meat Consumption Limit red meat intake and balance with alkaline foods like vegetables & fruit. Probiotics for Gut Health Consider probiotic-rich foods like yogurt and kimchi to help break down oxalates. Final Thoughts So, should you avoid oxalates? Should you stop eating meat? Not necessarily. The real key is BALANCE. Most people don't need to avoid oxalates entirely, and meat is fine in moderation—as long as you balance it with hydration, alkaline foods, and a gut-friendly diet. In his book, “The Patient Ferment of the Early Church”, Alan Kreider offers an explanation of how Christianity took root and grew in the Roman Empire, even though the church was marginalized, despised, and discriminated against. The parallels to the world we find ourselves inhabiting as Christians today is remarkably similar. Kreider explains that four things happened to advance the faith, and I believe we can and should enlist all four in our Christian parenting. First, there was patience. They didn't hurry or push things along. Rather, they patiently trusted God to do His work. Second, they developed habitual behaviors of Christian commitment and character that not only grew their own faith, but offered a compelling witness to the surrounding culture. Third, they were committed to Christian education and worship. And finally, there was a kind of ferment happening as their faith bubbled up out of their inward lives. Let's offer the same kind of compelling witness to our kids.

The New York Rangers are reportedly considering trading two of their key players, Jacob Trouba and Chris Kreider. According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Rangers have made it clear they're interested in making moves and shaking up their roster, with Trouba and Kreider's names being mentioned as potential options. Trouba, the Rangers' captain, has responded to the trade rumors, saying he's happy to be in New York and focused on playing hockey. He also mentioned that he hasn't talked to Rangers GM Chris Drury since the rumors surfaced. The potential trade of Trouba and Kreider could be motivated by the Rangers' desire to clear cap space to sign goalie Igor Shesterkin, who is a priority for the team ¹. Trouba has a $8 million cap hit for this and next season, while Kreider has two years left on his contract at $6.5 million per year. Possible trade destinations for Trouba and Kreider could include the Detroit Red Wings, who were previously interested in Trouba, or the Philadelphia Flyers, who might be willing to make a deal despite being a divisional rival. #NYR #bigapplehockey #bah #isles -For more articles and opinions go to X: www.twitter.com/bigapplehockey -Follow us on INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/big_apple_hockey_/ -Listen to the PODCAST on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/big-apple-hockey/id1581692698 -Listen to the PODCAST on Spotify, iHeartRadio, Google Podcasts -Subscribe on YOUTUBE: www.youtube.com/c/bigapplehockey -For Big Apple Hockey MERCH buy here: https://www.ebay.com/usr/bigapplehockey Support the channel on TipTopJar: https://tiptopjar.com/bigapplehockey BAH linktree: https://linktr.ee/bigapplehockey Use "BigAppleHockey" on Seat Geek for $20 off your first order! Alan Kreider. How and why did the early church grow in the first four hundred years despite disincentives, harassment, and occasional persecution? In this unique historical study, veteran scholar Alan Kreider delivers the fruit of a lifetime of study as he tells the amazing story of the spread of Christianity in the Roman Empire. Challenging traditional understandings, Kreider contends the church grew because the virtue of patience was of central importance in the life and witness of the early Christians. They wrote about patience, not evangelism, and reflected on prayer, catechesis, and worship, yet the church grew–not by specific strategies but by patient ferment.https://strengthtostrength.org/the-patient-ferment-of-the-early-church/
