How much should strength of schedule matter in college basketball? Miami (Ohio)'s strength of schedule is poor but because no Power 4 team would schedule them. Tom Izzo is going back to the tournament for the 28th year in a row.

Send a textIn this episode of Joey Pinz Discipline Conversations, Joey Pinz sits down with Mark Hardy, a retired U.S. Navy Captain and longtime cybersecurity executive, for a powerful conversation on leadership, growth, and decision-making under pressure.Mark shares what it was like stepping into command on September 11th in Lower Manhattan, leading without resources, infrastructure, or certainty—and how those moments shaped his lifelong approach to people and leadership. From developing future leaders to creating environments where individuals can step up when it matters most, this conversation goes far beyond theory. They explore why logic alone rarely drives lasting change, why emotional triggers are often the real catalyst for transformation, and how high-performing professionals can unintentionally disconnect from the very feelings that help them grow. Mark also reflects on cybersecurity careers, executive credibility, and why protecting people—not breaking systems—is the real challenge. This episode blends real-world leadership, personal evolution, and hard-earned wisdom from decades in the Navy, consulting, and cybersecurity—making it a must-listen for leaders, builders, and anyone navigating high-stakes decisions. ⭐ Top 3 Highlights
Send a textHow do we protect ourselves in a digital world where attackers face almost no real consequences? In this episode of Joey Pinz Discipline Conversations, Joey Pinz sits down with cybersecurity founder and inventor Mike Siers for a thought-provoking conversation that challenges everything we assume about online security, identity, and trust.Mike's journey begins in the Florida National Guard and a deployment to Afghanistan, where life-altering experiences shaped how he sees service, responsibility, and problem-solving. That same mindset later led him into healthcare innovation—and eventually into cybersecurity—after realizing that the internet lacks one critical element found in the physical world: real risk for bad actors.Inspired by military strategy and an MIT thesis on cyber power projection, Mike explains a radical idea: what if unauthorized access attempts cost money? Instead of defenders absorbing endless attacks, attackers would inherit the risk before they even try. This conversation explores how empathy fuels innovation, why most cybersecurity models are reactive by design, and how shifting incentives could dramatically change online behavior. It's a powerful look at leadership, responsibility, and building solutions not just for today—but for the next generation. ⭐ Top 3 Highlights

We break down the rivalry loss at Crisler, the Jeremy Fears flagrant, the “cylinder” rule, and whether the refs got it right or completely flipped the call. Then we zoom out: is Tom Izzo too old-school for the NIL/portal era, how much will it really take to keep Fears in East Lansing, and can MSU realistically make a Final Four run with this roster? From arguing if Sweet Sixteen/Elite Eight is “good enough,” to debating Ishbia's wallet, future portal targets, and whether Michigan has actually closed the gap on Sparty, this episode is part therapy session, part barbershop, and part hard truth about where Michigan State basketball really stands right now.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/this-is-sparta-msu--5664600/support.

The guys dish on everything Tom Izzo had to say after losing to Michigan for the 2nd time this year.
Mike and Rico get the sentiments of the listeners about Michigan/Michigan State and the fallout from the game.
Michigan punctuated its Big Ten regular season championship with a 90-80 win over no. 8 Michigan State, finishing with a 19-1 conference record. Sam Webb and Josh Newkirk of The Michigan Insider analyzed the victory, highlighting Yaxel Lendeborg's 27-point performance, which may have solidified his case for conference player of the year. They also addressed the latest groin kick by Spartan point guard Jeremy Fears and Tom Izzo's apparent approval of it. The discussion shifted back to Michigan, highlighting significant contributions from its bench, with Roddy Gayle Jr. and Trey McKenney adding 15 and 12 points, respectively. The conversation emphasized the team's unselfish play and strong defense, noting the importance of maintaining these qualities in the Big Ten Tournament and beyond. They also identified a need for greater consistency from Elliot Cadeau and Aday Mara to complete a run to a national championship. In this episode of The Burn Podcast, Ben Newman sits down with his longtime friend and fellow Spartan, Dr. Lorenzo Guess—Assistant AD, Director of Athletic Performance at Michigan State, and Director of Strength & Conditioning for men's basketball. From being a two-sport athlete at Michigan State to helping lead championship-level programs as a coach, Dr. Guess shares the fire that has driven him to keep growing, keep serving, and keep showing up at the highest level. Raised in a single-parent home, his burn was built from a desire to create a better life, honor his family, and do things no one around him had done before. That same drive carried him through adversity, including rewriting his dissertation during COVID and earning his doctorate because his daughter challenged him to finish what he started.Ben and Dr. Guess dive into what it means to coach beyond the game—developing not just better athletes, but stronger, more disciplined young men who are ready for life after college. They talk about the culture of Michigan State basketball, the standards set by Tom Izzo, and why talent alone is never enough. Dr. Guess explains how true development comes from accountability, detail, consistency, and refusing to let anything slip through the cracks—even with the most gifted players. This conversation is about legacy, family, discipline, and the responsibility to become an example for those watching. Send a textWhat if the very thing you were told would “ruin” your health was actually the moment everything clicked? In this powerful conversation, Joey Pinz sits down with Allyson Hurley, a certified personal trainer, nutrition coach, and longtime probation officer, to unpack how mindset—not restriction—is the true driver of lasting health change. Things Discussed: Seth on early: Ohio State has yet another former player admitting he didn't go to class. Mick Cronin doesn't record practices—he's Tom Izzo without being a good basketball coach. Seth gives a history of coaching styles, short version is the Bo/Woody/Izzo/Bear style of drill sergeant was just a post-WW2 thing that just worked in that era. Michigan tampered with [the locks that Mick Cronin puts on the dungeon] UCLA, and Xavier Booker sneaks in while it's open: ooh, more yelling! Purdue: Mackey was lit, 42-17 run after going down five early. Michigan took only one bad three; everything else was open. Purdue was the opposite, all movement. Not thruck. Matt Painter is the anti-Cronin. Explained the game so well: he helped every dive inside and forced M to hit open kickouts. Soon as they did there's nothing more to do If Mara is going to play like he did in the 1st half and Cadeau plays like he did in the 2nd half...yeesh. How would you attack Michigan? Start by pulling Mara out of the middle by going five-out, then survive their size on offense (e.g. Illinois). Duke Preview: Boozer is a suped up Yax, they have incredible length on the perimeter including a 6'8"/190 Italian they put on PGs so we're going to see if Michigan can keep up their scoring or turns it over a ton. Duke's weaknesses are you can get to the rim and get fouls on their young frontcourt, since they don't really have a backup five. Cason: best backup PG in the league? Not sure but turning a corner. Still misses a switch and doesn't have NBA spacial awareness, but he's a very valuable backup now.
Boomer and Gio are back together, starting with yesterday's Olympic hockey games and Gio's appreciation for 3-on-3 OT. The hour closed with the Kevin Durant burner account controversy and the possibility of Tom Izzo having burner accounts at WFAN.

Today, as a father of triplets and founder of Evolved Athlete, he helps lifelong athletes and high performers tap into flow states, restore nervous system balance, and perform without burning out. This conversation explores imposter syndrome, neuroplasticity, the brain's need for safety and predictability, and why consistency—not intensity—is the real edge.If you've ever felt stuck, broken, or past your prime—this episode will change how you think about performance, recovery, and what's possible next.
Send a textWhat would drive a 23-year-old to stage his own disappearance—and stay silent for 45 years? In this unforgettable conversation, Joey Pinz sits down with Steven Kubacki, PhD, whose 1978 disappearance on the frozen ice of Lake Michigan became one of America's most baffling mysteries. What the public never knew—until now—is that Steven's disappearance was intentional, ideological, and deeply personal.Steven reveals how a secret plan to “go underground” collided with an unexpected multidimensional experience that forever reshaped his understanding of consciousness, purpose, and human connection. From assuming a new identity to training in martial arts, confronting the dark side of power, and ultimately returning home claiming amnesia, Steven unpacks the psychological, spiritual, and ethical implications of radical action. Now, decades later, his book The Disappearance: Conspiracy, Revolution, Revelation serves as both an origin story and a warning—exploring certainty, extremism, social systems, and why meaning, connection, and structure matter more than ever in today's divided world. This episode challenges how we think about truth, identity, belief, and what it really takes to live authentically in chaotic times.
Send a textIn this episode, Joey Pinz sits down with Stan Lai, one of the most influential playwrights and directors of our time, to explore what creativity really is—and what it is not.Stan challenges the myth that creativity is mysterious or reserved for the gifted. Instead, he reveals how creativity is a traceable process of the mind, shaped by focus, patience, and the ability to remove the habits that block original thinking. Drawing from decades of writing, directing, and teaching, he explains how characters are formed, why improvisation needs structure, and why chasing results often kills the work before it begins. The conversation also explores how audiences shape (and sometimes distort) creative decisions, why Hollywood feels broken, where AI helps and where it falls short, and why the most meaningful work comes from motivation—not metrics.

Rather than numbing or escaping grief, Alex walks us through what became the Liam Process—a four-step framework rooted in presence, emotional awareness, and aligned action. This conversation explores why chasing a pain-free life leaves people disconnected, how men lose their identity in responsibility, and why real growth requires feeling the full spectrum of human emotion.
