How much pressure is there on John Calipari to take Kentucky basketball on another deep run in March Madness? On today's episode of Locked On Kentucky, Lance Dawe discusses what the realistic expectations should be for Coach Calipari this postseason. The Kentucky Wildcats haven't made an Elite Eight in the NCAA tournament since 2019, and right now the fanbase seems a little distressed. Should UK fans be upset with this roster? Or should they wait until next season to really apply the pressure? Calipari also had some interesting comments about kids not practicing because of injury. Is it rational to tell players like Jacob Toppin, Cason Wallace, Sahvir Wheeler and CJ Fredrick that if they don't practice they'll come off the bench and not play as much? Rather than just tell them they're sitting because they're hurt? What sort of underlying issues does this potentially imply? Finally, Dawe takes a look at the history of 6-seeds in March Madness. Is the history of the tournament on Kentucky's side? If John Calipari were to leave the Kentucky Wildcats, who would replace him? On today's episode of Locked On Kentucky, Lance Dawe discusses Kentucky basketball's John Calipari and what the Wildcats would do if he were to leave or be fired. There are several names that have been thrown out for a move that hasn't happened (and likely won't), but Dawe goes over them anyway: Nate Oats, Jay Wright, Scott Drew, Rick Pitino, Eric Mussleman are just some of the coaches that fans have said could replace Cal. Dawe also takes a look into some listener questions. How likely is it that Calipari leaves for Texas basketball? Should Kentucky pursue Auburn's Bruce Pearl? Where do we go after the "fire Cal" narrative goes away? If we had to change the rotation and redistribute minutes, who would get more/less and why? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Outside of next year's recruiting class, John Calipari has done nothing to win over the Kentucky basketball fanbase, and now he could be leaving for Texas. On today's episode of Locked On Kentucky, Lance Dawe goes over the ways the Kentucky Wildcats have fallen short of expectations this season, and why it all points back to Calipari. The chemistry isn't there on the court. The players seem like they've given up, and Oscar Tshiebwe is begging for the team to show some fight. The scheme hasn't changed, and it's making Coach Cal look bad when he has faced up against coaches running more modern things - Nate Oats at Alabama, Dennis Gates at Missouri, etc. The matchup between Kentucky vs South Carolina was arguably the most embarrassing loss of the season last night for the Wildcats. There are no answers. GG Jackson and Meechie Johnson got hot early and never looked back. Even when things got close late, Kentucky proved once again that they don't possess a clutch player that can close out a game. Finally, to turn things into a positive direction, Lance takes a look at next year's roster (if nothing changes). Rob Dillingham, DJ Wagner and Reed Sheppard could form the most electric backcourt in the SEC next season. Justin Edwards, Aaron Bradshaw and Ugonna Onyenso should also be explosive. If UK can find a transfer PF, this could be a legitimate roster next season. If it takes John Calipari all of the five-star talent in the world to win a title, he's going to have a great shot next year. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!
