Galen Clavio and Scott Caulfield open with a quick detour into Olympic hockey chaos, then dive into two big Indiana topics.First: Indiana football's new reality—Curt Cignetti's massive contract extension, what it signals about IU's willingness to spend like a true power, and why the next phase has to include real Memorial Stadium upgrades to match the program's new level. The guys also discuss the NCAA's latest bout of pettiness and why the Louis Moore injunction chatter isn't something Hoosiers should lose sleep over. Then it's basketball: Indiana's week goes sideways with losses at Illinois and a 29-point blowout at Purdue (the biggest margin in the series since 1969). They break down why IU's early offensive stagnation doomed the game, the troubling defensive trendlines, and why the path to the NCAA Tournament is suddenly far narrower than it looked a couple weeks ago.

Jake highlights Braylon Mullins deciding to go to UConn over Indiana and explains why Butler is struggling to compete in the Big East based off what Dan Hurley said last night. (36:49-46:51) – The first hour of the show concludes with Jake sharing some more thoughts on what Dan Hurley said last night about Thad Matta and the Butler Athletic Department. (46:51-1:15:30) – Mac Engel from the Fort Worth Star & Telegram joins the show and his conversation with Jake Query starts with him sharing a story on flying in Bon Jovi’s plane. Jake asks Mac about what he has seen from Josh Hoover at TCU the last three years, reveals how much money he believes that Hoover got to go to IU, doesn’t believe that Mark Cuban is actually going to buy the Dallas Mavericks back, gives his perspective on whether the Dallas Mavericks are going to try and tank to get a top-four pick. (1:15:30-1:20:27) – Dan Hurley had some comments on TNT following UConn’s win about Butler, but he took it to another level after the game in his postgame media session. Jake plays what one of the best college coaches had to say. (1:20:27-1:29:56) – At the end of the previous segment, Jake reacts further to what Dan Hurley had to say after the game about Thad Matta. He wonders how Butler can compete in the Big East without having the help of a division-one football program bringing in more students or money for the athletic department. (1:29:56-1:55:40) – Mike Niziolek from the Bloomington Herald Times joins Jake Query to discuss the nine Hoosiers that are heading to the NFL Combine in a couple of weeks, evaluates if Fernando Mendoza is worthy of being the first overall selection in the draft, identifies D’Angelo Ponds as one player that has grown the most underneath Curt Cignetti’s tutelage, and previews the upcoming challenge for the Indiana Hoosiers against the Illinois Fighting Illini this weekend. (1:55:40-2:06:35) – Earlier in the day, there was IndyCar news that was shared about the future of two engine manufacturers. With Valentine's Day around the corner, we take a look at the 2025 storylines we secretly loved. Whether scrappy teams held things together with gum and chicken wire, coaches who turned programs around overnight, or the moments that didn't make national headlines, we talk through the things that got our hearts pumping. Think Wisconsin winning games with their punter as the leading passer, Houston quietly going 10-3, Arch Manning actually getting better when pundits left him for dead, and much more. In this episode, we share our own picks before opening it up to the Verballerhood, whose submissions cover everything from Kenny Dillingham staying at Arizona State to the absurdity of Lane Kiffin's move to LSU, Arkansas fans learning to love heartbreak, Indiana fans debating whether to protect their hearts or go all in on Curt Cignetti, and much more. February 4, 2026 - Season 16, Episode 89 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing the seemingly decline in excitement and media coverage when it comes to Super Bowl LX. While only a handful of coaching staff hires has been made official by the team as of Wednesday morning, Alex and I discuss the reports that now indicate that Brian Angelichio will likely be the team's new offensive coordinator and Domata Peko the new defensive line coach. We also address the reported news that two staff interviewees, Scott Tolzien and Chase Haslett, are reportedly staying with the New Orleans Saints. Is there some sort of prior history between QB Aaron Rodgers and new coaching staff member Frank Cignetti Jr. that could result in the former not wanting to return to Pittsburgh in 2026? We attempt to answer that question/narrative that seems to now be making the rounds since our Monday show. Former Steelers running backs coach Eddie Faulkner is reportedly joining the coaching staff of the Baltimore Ravens, so we address that news. We also talk about the seemingly strong coaching staff that new Ravens HC Jesse Minter seems to be assembling. The NFLPA held their annual Super Bowl press conference on Tuesday, so Alex and I discuss a few main talking points that came out of that media session. We talk about the probability of an 18-game regular season in the NFL and how more emphasis on better playing surfaces in stadiums is likely to happen very soon. Steelers DT Cameron Heyward is making the rounds ahead of Super Bowl LX on radio row this week, so Alex and I go over a few comments he has made about his playing future. On Tuesday, we learned that Detroit Lions fan involved in a December altercation with Steelers WR DK Metcalf has brought a $100 million defamation lawsuit against the player, the organization, and others. With that news being fresh, Alex and I give our thoughts on that having any chance of succeeding. This 96-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the above recap and we make sure to read and answer a few emails we have received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices.
