On Friday night, Indiana destroyed Oregon by a 56-22 score, leaving no doubt why the Hoosiers were the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff. It was a dominant effort by Curt Cignetti, Fernando Mendoza, and a Hoosier defense that forced three first half turnovers. So dominant, in fact, that we're struggling to put it in historical context. In this episode, we walk back through the game, peek a bit ahead to the national championship game and, of course, give Dan a chance to sound off on a disappointing ending to Oregon's season.Support the show!: https://www.patreon.com/solidverbalSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We break down why the move happened, who Baltimore should hire next, why the Ravens instantly become the best NFL head coaching job available, and why Harbaugh now becomes the top coaching candidate on the market. Next, we dive into Black Monday fallout across the NFL, including the firings of Jonathan Gannon, Pete Carroll, Raheem Morris, and Kevin Stefanski. We discuss Arizona’s reset, the Raiders’ collapse, Atlanta’s long-overdue clean house despite a talented roster, and why Cleveland’s issues extend far beyond Stefanski — with the Deshaun Watson trade still shaping the franchise. In College Football, we preview and make picks for the CFP semifinals. We break down Miami vs Ole Miss in the Fiesta Bowl, Miami’s shocking win over Ohio State, and whether the Hurricanes can control the game or survive a shootout. We also preview the Peach Bowl rematch between Oregon and Indiana, revisiting their regular-season matchup, quarterback pressure, line-of-scrimmage battles, and why Curt Cignetti’s Hoosiers may be the most complete team left. We close with full NFL Wild Card previews and picks, including Rams vs Panthers, Packers vs Bears, Bills vs Jaguars, 49ers vs Eagles, Chargers vs Patriots, and Texans vs Steelers. We break down key injuries, coaching advantages, matchup edges, and why several favorites may be on upset alert. From Drake Maye’s MVP-level leap, Trevor Lawrence’s late-season surge, Houston’s elite defense, and why Pittsburgh may be the weakest team in the playoff field — it’s a must-listen postseason episode.

(00:00-25:16) – Query & Company opens on a Hump Day Wednesday with Jake Query and producer Eddie Garrison discussing the decision last night by the Baltimore Ravens to part ways with John Harbaugh. Did the Colts commit to Shane Steichen too early? Could they have been a team that contacted Harbaugh’s representatives? Plus, they start setting the table for IU vs Oregon! (25:16-38:56) – With Riley Leonard performing well in his first career NFL start, Jake and Eddie take a look back at his college success at Notre Dame and compare it to Fernando Mendoza. They highlight some things that Mendoza does well that will translate to the NFL and identify a couple of question marks they have about IU’s quarterback going to the next level. (38:56-47:28) – The first hour of the show concludes with Jake and Eddie previewing the NFL Playoffs. They each identify a team that is entering the playoffs hot but could have a very underperforming effort, a team that could catch fire in the playoffs and make a Super Bowl run, and then who could be the sleeper winner of the big game. (47:28-1:15:29) – The IndyStar’s Joel Erickson joins Query & Company to talk NFL & Indianapolis Colts with Jake Query. Jake and Joel have a discussion about Carlie Irsay-Gordon’s press conference from two days ago, if there are other things that she could be focusing on right now that led her to running it back, shares some thoughts on the NFL Playoffs, and evaluates if Kyler Murray or Tua Tagovailoa could be an option for the Colts if Daniel Jones is not brought back because he decides he wants to go elsewhere. (1:09:36-1:28:16) – Brian Neubert from GoldAndBlack.com makes an appearance on the show to preview tonight’s game for the Purdue Boilermakers against the Washington Huskies. Jake asks Brian if the Boilermakers have enough depth to win when the turnaround is so tight during the Big Ten Tournament and later into the NCAA Tournament and Brian states that Purdue’s defense has dramatically improves since the blowout loss to Iowa State. (1:28:16-1:34:47) – The second hour of the show concludes with Jake and Eddie discussing that first matchup between the Oregon Ducks and Indiana Hoosiers with Oregon missing one of the key offensive players on Friday night that had an impact in the first meeting. (1:34:47-2:00:13) – Mike Niziolek from the Bloomington Herald Times joins Jake from Atlanta to preview Friday’s game between Indiana and Oregon. Mike explains what is different between IU and Oregon since their first matchup, assesses if there is a danger of a letdown performance after their Rose Bowl performance, and believes Oregon is a better team than Ole Miss and Miami. (2:00:13-2:17:37) – Rhett Lewis from the Big Ten and NFL Network joins the show to give his perspective on the IU vs Oregon game on Friday night. He believes that there are going to be some challenges now for the Ducks offense being too one dimensional, highlights some things about Curt Cignetti that we haven’t seen in college football besides Nick Saban in the last 20 years, and believes that this team could be talked about as one of the best team mindset in college football history. (2:17:37-2:23:50) – Today’s show closes out with JMV joining Jake in studio to discuss the Montreal Expos with JMV supporting the former MLB franchise. Southeastern 16's Jay Greeson and Chris Lee power-rank the four teams remaining in the College Football Playoff, which are Indiana, Oregon, Miami and Ole Miss. Topics include the cases for and against each team, which are: Miami has the country's best pass-rush, led by elite guys in Akheem Mesidor and Rueben Bain Jr. It has outstanding, play-making defensive backs in Keionte Scott and Bryce Fitzgerald. On offense, it has potential NFL first-round tackle Francis Mauigoa, one of the country's best receivers in Malachi Toney and a future NFL running back in Mark Fletcher, not to mention an experienced quarterback in Carson Beck. However, the Hurricanes lost to a pair of teams that are unranked in the final regular-season AP poll in SMU and Louisville, the latter at home. Indiana is the nation's only unbeaten team and perhaps the most statistically-dominant one, too. Not only did the Hoosiers have the Heisman Trophy winner in Fernando Mendoza, but they've got all-American and all-conference players at every position on the field and were strong in offense, defense and special teams. And, of course, Indiana has coach Curt Cignetti, who may be the coach most suited to win in the modern college football environment. The Hoosiers did not have a statistical weakness for the season. However, they were more mortal in spells, such as a 20-15 win at Iowa in which they had 337 yards of total offense and a 27-24 win at Penn State in which they trailed late into the fourth quarter and were out-gained, 336-326. Oregon can challenge Indiana's statistical dominance in some ways. The Ducks' yards-per-play difference of 2.5 was the same as the Hoosiers and like IU, is strong in the trenches. Oregon also has star power in quarterback Dante Moore and four all-Americans: tight end Kenyon Sadiq, offensive linemen Emanual Pregnon and Iapani Lalolu and defensive lineman Dillon Thieneman. That defense was also salty against Texas Tech, shutting out the Red Raiders in their first playoff game. However, Oregon's case for the top spot is hurt by the fact the Ducks lost 30-20 to Indiana in the regular season. Ole Miss wasn't supposed to be here under rookie coach Pete Golding. But the Rebels have buy-in and confidence, a star quarterback in Trinidad Chambliss who's gotten better as the season has progressed, a wide receiving corps that spreads teams out, a stud running back in Kewan Lacy and a defense that wasn't outstanding but was consistent. And speaking of consistency, the Rebels were held under 417 yards of offense (that was their lone loss to Georgia during the regular season). The Rebels were more consistent than dominant. They gained 6.7 yards per play and gave up 5.3. &COLLAR Use promo code SEC16 for 16% off! Fox Sports' Joel Klatt joins The Next Round for a must-watch breakdown of the latest College Football Playoff drama and the biggest questions facing the sport. We start with Indiana's dominant Rose Bowl win over Alabama, as Joel weighs in on whether the Hoosiers are one of the best college football teams we've ever seen and how Curt Cignetti has pulled it off at a non–blue blood program like Indiana. From the Alabama side, we dig into the fallout for the Crimson Tide: Should Alabama fans be concerned about the lack of a run game under Kalen DeBoer? And what's next for Ty Simpson — should he return to Alabama or make the jump to the NFL? The conversation then turns to the bigger picture as Joel explains what needs to change with the College Football Playoff format, especially with teams holding first-round byes going just 1–7 since the move to a 12-team playoff. Is the structure broken, and how can it be fixed? Plus, we preview another massive postseason storyline: Ole Miss vs. Miami — who has the advantage and why? And Joel addresses the buzz around Lane Kiffin prohibiting assistant coaches from finishing the season at Ole Miss before joining him at LSU, adding even more intrigue to the coaching carousel. If you love college football analysis, CFP reaction, SEC and Big Ten talk, and bold takes from one of the top voices in the sport, this episode is for you.
