Two micks talk gangster films. Listener discretion advised. Now go get your f****n' shine box!
Kevin McQuade and Scott McNulty
Special guest podcaster Sidney Delorean returns once again to the McWiseguys lair! This time we're taking a good, hard look at Pamela Anderson's chest - I mean film debut! - Barb Wire. The Hulu series "Pam and Tommy" has sparked renewed interest in this cinematic gem and we felt it was our civic duty to give it our all. And we gave it...long and hard. Lotta chafing. Lotta leather-on-bare-skin-induced rashes. All for you, dear listener. You're welcome! Call us brave, if you like. Call us foolish. Just don't call us babe. https://teespring.com/stores/mcwiseguys https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sex-drugs-spirituality/id1285037790
If you listened to podcasts anytime in the late 70's or early 80's, there's a 95% chance that you're a time traveler! But if you snorted coke during that same time period, there's a 100% chance you own a Hawaiian shirt and dad jeans today. Congratulations my friend! And please do enjoy Kevin and Scott's review of the 2001 Johnny Depp drug smuggling biopic that is "Blow", directed by Ted Demme and based on the real life story of "Boston" George Jung. The Panamanian government may have taken his money, but they'll never take...YOUR FREEEEEEDOMMMM!!!! Wait, that was the wrong movie. But you get the idea. Now enjoy the show, Padroni. The McWiseguys are back, mothafucka! After a long hiatus, your favorite guinea wop micks have returned to the internets to bring you all the rambling, misquoted, historically inaccurate film reviews you've come to love! Today, we sit down to discuss "The Many Saints of Newark: A Soprano's Story". This film as it all! Overbearing Italian mothers, oversexed Italian fathers, overly ambitious Italian girlfriends, and of course, a whole lotta GABAGOOL!!! We know you've been waiting for it. Craving it, even. But just remember, it's the WANTING.
Today, IN THIS COUNTRY, Kevin and Scott review The Departed. Which will certainly not add inches to any body part, male or female. In fact, studies show that listening to us rant will undoubtedly shorten your life by at least 5 years. We're like smoking, oh so bad, but you just can't quit us. You wish you could quit us, don't you? Wait, that's a whole different movie....
Kevin and Scott continue their journey into Francis Ford Coppola's tale of Italian immigrants who come to America to become highly successful banana daiquiri salesmen. We're smart! Not like everyone says - that we're dumb. We're smart! And we want respect! And more daiquiris!
Kevin and Scott sit down with a Very Special Guest to tackle Francis Ford Coppola's second take on the Family Corleone, The Godfather, part 2. Released in 1974 to surprisingly tepid reviews, it has come to be viewed as (perhaps?) the best of the trilogy, and certainly one of the greatest Mafia films OF ALL TIME. This film is so epic we had to break it up into two parts, so sit back, relax, eat an orange and pour yourself a Cuba Libre, because it's gonna be a nice long journey. 90 miles long, to be exact. YOU BROKE MY HEART, KEVIN!!! Check out our merch here: https://teespring.com/stores/mcwiseguys Check our guest host here: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sex-drugs-spirituality/id1285037790
Here at McWiseguys, we consume a wide variety of cinematic, and culinary, delights! For instance, we love some veal and peppers, some linguine and tomato sauce (don't put too many onions in the sauce, Kevin!) and perhaps surprisingly, fried catfish, squirrel dumplings and hush puppies. And in that same spirit of cultural integration, we present to you today, dear listener, a superb work of what Scott calls "Hillbilly Crime"! The Newton Boys came out in 1998 and was directed by Richard Linklater, and stars such Hollywood heavyweights as Matthew McConeghy and Ethan Hawke. So grab a banjo, a shot of whiskey, and some nitro glycerin, because this true story of cowboys-turned-bank-robbers will have your heart pounding faster than a midnight train robbery! Yee-Haw!
Is it better to be loved, or feared? Here at McWiseguys we really don't care either way, as long as you listen! In this episode, Kevin and Scott delve into Robert de Niro's 1993 directorial debut, "A Bronx Tale", starring Chaz Palminteri and Lilo Brancato, as well as de Niro himself, with a special appearance by Joe Pesci. Sounds good, am I right??? Now yuse can't leave...
Martin fuckin' Scorsese and Leo fuckin' DiCaprio. We just can't enough of our two favorite Eye-Ties! In this very special episode, Kevin and Scott talk fun coupons, ludes, and - for some reason - The historical inaccuracy of The Revenant. But in between all that, we take a few moments to review 2013's The Wolf of Wall Street. Pick up your ear phones and start listening. And don't stop until you buy our merchandise, or FUCKIN' DIE!!! Ma! We got chicken, or what?!
What does Kevin McQuade look like? He's bald... He has a beard... Does he look like a bitch?!?! Scott says yes, Kevin is undecided at this point. But what they both agree on is how Totally Effing Awesome this movie is. If you've never seen Pulp Fiction, give it a try sometime! Me, I can't usually see it because my girlfriend's a cat, which pretty much makes me a cat, too. And cats don't watch movies. Man..that was fuckin' trippy.
A Very Special Holiday Podcast from your friends at McWiseGuys. Enjoy, and thanks for listening! https://teespring.com/stores/mcwiseguys
Kevin and Scott return once again to the era of Prohibition America, in this dark and moving tale of a father trying to save his son, both literally and metaphorically, from the life of crime he chose long ago. Road to Perdition came out in 2002 and won an Oscar for best cinematography. Was it worth it? You'll have to judge for yourself, but one thing is certain, neither Kevin nor Scott will ever see Heaven! https://teespring.com/stores/mcwiseguys
You goddamn guineas really make us laugh, you know that? First we do you a favor and create a podcast when you're having a bad time, and now you want us to review the Greatest Gangster Film of All Time?!?! Kevin and Scott share their experiences watching and reading The Godfather, it's long lasting effect on Hollywood gangster films, and the cultural impact it made on the world in general. In short, we gave it our all, and hope you enjoy it. Some day, and that day may never come, we'll call on you to do a service for us. But until that time, accept this podcast as a gift from us...and also buy our merch! https://teespring.com/stores/mcwiseguys
It's late September and summer's over, but in 1930's Texas, the Heat is on! In today's episode, Kevin and Scott examine the Netflix produced Bonnie and Clyde update, "The Highwaymen". Unlike previous versions of the lawless lover's tale, this film tells the story from the point of view of the men charged with hunting them down. And hunt them they did. With killer performances (pun intended) from Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson as real life Texas Rangers Frank Hamer and Manny Gault, and a (mostly) accurate historical narrative, it's a grim but fascinating look into how 19th century frontier gumshoes were able to merge their experience and insights with new modern tools like wire tapping and fast, Ford cars that could take both predator and prey hundreds of miles across state lines in a single night. Manos Arribas, motherfucker!
Shalom! You think the only wise guys in this fuckin' country are Micks and Wops? I got news for ya, Bubbe! The Chosen People got plenty of Matza Balls, too! Thanks to our loyal listener, Patrick, Kevin and Scott were gifted with the recently restored director's cut of Sergio Leone's classic gangster epic, "Once Upon a Time in America". The film chronicles the lives of Jewish hoodlums growing up in the Big Apple. Spanning multiple decades and covering themes of friendship, betrayal, love, lust, greed and power, it's a true American Dream story. It is also very, very long. Oy Vey! Grab a knish and some kugel, cuz it's gonna be a long ride. Mozel Tov!
In this episode, Kevin and Scott return once again to the streets of South Boston to shed some light on a very dark time in the history of Bean Town. Most of the nation learned of the notorious Whitey Bulger when he was finally captured in 2011 after 15 years on the lam, but for the people of Southie, he was always a known quantity. A benefactor to be respected, and a demon to be feared. Equal parts loving son, father, and horrific enforcer of gangland justice, Black Mass takes us inside the mind of a complicated, and sinister, man. Also, did we mention how HOT Juno Temple is???
In this episode, Kevin and Scott take a trip to the West Siiiiiide!!! Specifically, the west side of NYC, in 1990, when it was still (just barely) known as Hell's Kitchen. If you never heard of State of Grace, it's probably because it came out the very same week as Goodfellas (poor bastards). But with an A-list cast, top notch musical score, and gritty New York streets filmed on location, it's sure to become your Movie of the Summer! Or, at the very least, a pleasant surprise. Slainte!
Whoopsie Daisy! Scott and Kevin are back with yet another Marty Scorsese classic! Few natural disasters can compete with the volcanic alacrity that is Daniel Day Lewis playing Bill "The Butcher" Cutting in this tale of New York City street gangs fighting for survival and cultural dominance at the height of the Civil War. It takes a lot of sand to record a podcast about this film, but...that's how you stand up against the rising of the tide.
In this episode, Kevin and Scott go DEEP into Guy Ritchie's "Snatch". Like, all the way in..and then out. And then back in again. But seriously, it's a tight episode, with a shuddering climax. Sit back, relax, and listen. Before, zee Germans arrive!
In this review of Martin Scorsese's gangland classic, Kevin looks one way and Scott looks another, and you, the audience are like, "What do you want from me?" Listen with your, what is it, the ears? The Hoof. Ma, it's a sin....
Happy Memorial Day! Kevin and Scott sit down on this national holiday to review Michael Mann's biopic of national antihero, John Dillinger. Public Enemies came out in 2009 to tepid reviews, but is now enjoying a second wind on Netflix with a whole new audience. Scott takes umbrage with some of the historical inaccuracies, but Kevin's too busy making false genealogical claims to notice. Give it a listen and then meet us at the Biograph Theater to discuss! Kevin will be wearing an orange dress, facing south...
In this very special episode, Kevin and Scott go back to their roots, exploring a film which is deeply embedded in both their childhoods and their home state--Tombstone! You called down the thunder, and now you got it! We are your proverbial huckleberries ;)
Kevin and Scott are back! Reviewing Brian de Palma's classic tale of prohibition justice, "The Untouchables", an aptly named episode for a show that's taking place during a global quarantine. All participants remained 6 feet apart during the recording of this podcast. We hope you enjoy the program, which we recorded with great enthusiasm...enthusiasm...enthusiasm...
In this review of "Carlito's Way", Al Pacino proves the only thing you need to play a Latino drug dealer is a Just For Men dye job and a black leather trench coat. Meanwhile, Scott can't take his eyes off of Sean Penns Jewfro, and Kevin can't walk! He can't hump! Just go ahead and kill him you cock sucker!
Tea, crumpets, and cocaine. These are the hallmarks of British crime, and indeed, British civilization itself. This movie has it all! James Bond, Chief O'Brian from Star Trek, Dumbledore, Bane, and Sienna Miller in her underwear! Put on your bib, pull up a chair, and tuck into this luscious layer cake of double crosses, murder and intrigue! Also, Scott just won't stop talking about Blade Runner for some reason. Huzzah!
Reasons why you should listen to this episode: 1) Because she's got a GREAT ASS! 2) Because you've got your head ALL THE WAY UP IT! 3) You don't know how to do anything else, and you don't much want to
In this episode Kevin and Scott attempt to answer the Greatest Question Known to Man: Is a Lincoln actually better than a Cadillac? FUGETABOUTIT!!!
Kevin loves The Town. He loves everything about it. Especially Dreamy Jon Hamm and Buff Ben Affleck! Scott is more reserved in his praise, but he does have a boner for Blake Lively - That minx! This episode comes with free pie. Audio pie. All the great sounds of pie, minus the calories! Have a listen and make your own call!
Kevin and Scott review the Coen Brother's 1990 cult classic, "Miller's Crossing". Set in 1920's prohibition era America, this film follows a war between two rival mobs for control of a city. At the center are two unlikely love triangles, and one cunning Irishman. So stop ballin' like a twist ya lousy potato eater, and download this episode! Cuz I'm sick of gettin' the High Hat!
In this episode, McQuade and McNulty take you on a magical journey through a very special time and place: Mob era Vegas! We review Martin Scorcese's 1995 film, "Casino", often given short shrift over the earlier "Goodfellas", we hope to persuade you into giving this film it's due. With incredible performances from Robert de Niro, Joe Pesci, Sharon Stone and James Woods, combined with superb production value and white hot dialogue, we feel it's high time the world showed this gem some love. Don't make me be the bad guy here!
In this, the Pilot Episode of Kevin and Scott's McWiseguys podcast, we review Martin Scorsese's Made-for-Netflix mafia drama,"The Irishman". Is it an epic criminal history? Or a 3 and a half hour trip to the DMV? You decide!
